Stakes high for Clermont Show’s cattle sale Isaac’s leading graziers put their best cattle on show at the Clermont Show cattle sale. The May 30 event at Clermont Saleyards attracted a yarding of 670 head. •
Champion Grain Fed heifer went to Mac and Gayle Shann of Cantaur Park Clermont with a Droughtmaster Cross heifer she weighed 640kg to make 324c/kg to make $2073.

Champion Grass Fed Steer went to the Burnett family of Bendemeer, Clermont with a milk tooth Simmental Cross Steer weighing 730kgs he made 297c/kg to return $2168, they also won champion pair of the show with milk tooth Simmental Cross steers weighing 632kgs they reached 297c/kg to make $1878.

Champion pen of the show went to Mac and Gayle Shann from Cantaur Park. Clermont with a pen of five Droughtmaster heifers that weighed 518kgs and made 294c/kg to return $1523.

The champion grass fed heifer went to the Faint Family of Glenmore in Clermont with a Charolais heifer weighing 590kgs, she reached 295c/kg to come back at $1740.

Councillor Dale Appleton congratulated all those involved in another successful sale at the council’s sale yards. Hoch and Wilkinson’s Jake Passfield said winners from the cattle were of very high standard. “450 prime cattle and 220 store cattle. Classes ranged from 100-day grain fed to store steers and heifers,” Mr Passfield said. In the prime section the winners were: •
The Grand Champion Exhibit of the show went to the Burnett family of Monteagle in Clermont with Bradford cross 100-day grain fed steer that weighed 725kg and reached 324c/kg to return $2349.

Michael Borg and family from Calveston won the pen of store steer class with a pen of 15.

Gelbvieh/Brahman Cross steers that weighed 330kgs which made 389c/kg to come back at $1283 their sisters won the pen of 15 store heifer class as well they made 334c/kg for 321kgs to return $1074.
The Belyando Bull Bonanza Helmsman Auction was held in the afternoon and a Moongool Charolais bull from the Price Family in Moongool, Roma topped at $10,000 to Mac and Gayle Shann from Cantaur Park, Clermont. The Clermont Show - the Isaac Region’s Show hits some highs contributed by Kate Flohr The 2017 Clermont Show – The Isaac Region’s Show has come and gone and it was another amazing display of what the Region has to offer. The sideshow alley was full of colour, excitement and smiling faces. At the other end of the Showgrounds, amazing displays of vegetables, incredible school displays and mouth-watering cooking was on display when walking through the Pavilion. The poultry, horse and cattle events were again well supported, as were the youth competitions. There were even the dairy goat for the first time that were a real hit. Tuesday evening saw an amazing fireworks display with this year’s exhibition being bigger and better than previous years. This was then followed by the Young Farmers’ Challenge which saw teams put the life of a farmer’s wife to the challenge. The Show Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Isaac Region residents who attended the 2017 Show. With so much time and effort put into organising such an event, it is rewarding for the Committee to see many friends from Moranbah, Dysart, Middlemount and other parts of Isaac travel to Clermont to spend their annual show holiday supporting the Isaac Region’s Show. The enthusiastic involvement of the Clermont State High School students, the tertiary students from Australian Agricultural College Emerald campus, the wonderful community groups and all of the Showgirl and Rural Ambassador entrants was definitely visible throughout the three days and greatly appreciated. Without the ongoing support of many local businesses and community organisations, without the cooperation and hard work and the assistance of Isaac Regional Council it would be impossible to continue to raise the standard and stage such a large and popular local event. Also a huge thank you to the Clermont Men’s Shed for their assistance with some of our large projects prior to the Show.

150 Years of Schooling contributed by Clermont State High School P & C Association Clermont State High School and Clermont State School will be commemorating 150 years of schooling in the Clermont area as well as a reunion of past and present students on the weekend commencing Friday, August 18 and concluding on Sunday, August 20. Below is the schedule of events proposed for the weekend: •

Public Notices Water meter reading underway Isaac Regional Council’s water meter reading program will commence throughout the region as part of the introduction of the two-part water tariff.
This great tool allows you to set email and SMS alerts so you are notified of water leaks and high consumption within days of occurrence.
Following a 12-month reprieve by Council, water consumption charges take effect from July 1, 2017. Ratepayers will not be charged for water consumption for usage between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017.
For the safety of Council’s water meter reading contractors, please ensure your animals are enclosed within your property.
The first water notice issued will be for the period July 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 and will be issued during January 2018. To help ensure the charging system is accurate, efficient and reliable a manual water meter read program will take place Monday to Friday between the hours from 7am to 5pm:

Clermont sportsground grandstand repairs Isaac Regional Council advises Clermont residents that the Sports Precinct Grandstand will undergo repairs and maintenance:

Council encourages ratepayers to monitor their own water usage through MiWater, a free service. Once signed up, you receive access to your home’s individual water consumption information via the MiWater website at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/miwater.

Things are getting real now! Last week all the meals that I’ve prepared were packaged up and what I won’t need for the first 12 days walking has been sent on to the various visitors centres along the Bibbulman Track for me to collect as I go.
I’ve been busy in the lead up dehydrating food such as zucchini, carrot, sweet potato, onion, bolognaise mince, ratatouille, lentil and vegetable soup, brown rice, couscous, deb potato, pasta, quinoa (which, for interest sake, is the only plant protein that has a full profile of amino acids equivalent to animal protein - great stuff for hungry muscles!) and I’ve even snuck in a couple of roast lamb and veg meals and some desserts. My meals are all individually prepacked in either cryovac or ziplock bags so all I need to do is boil my small pot of water on the gas burner I have in my pack. 250ml for my cup of tea in the morning and 500ml at night, half of which will be used to rehydrate dinner and the other 250ml for another cuppa. Everything I take in with me, needs to come out with me. There is no rubbish to be left on the track! A day’s worth of meals will look a little like this: Breakfast – cup of tea with Muesli (2 tbsps oats, 1 tsp each of sesame seeds, almonds and dried fruit), 1 tsp Maca powder,1 tsp of protein powder mixed with a dessert spoon of powdered milk)
Lunch – protein shake Dinner – 1 tbsp bolognaise mince 1 tsp of zucchini, 1 tsp of carrot, sweet potato, onion and bone broth and 1 tbsp of brown rice or quinoa. Dessert – ¼ cup instant custard powder, a wafer biscuit and (yes, ONE) marshmallow with some dried apricot or apple. Snacks – grainy bread soaked in olive oil and dehydrated to be crunchy, nuts, dates, Vita-Weats, and peanut butter. Protein and good fats are a must for the trip. As is water. I can refill my water at each of the shelters along the track, so thankfully will not need to carry a huge amount of it. However there are sections of the track that will require me to very carefully measure my intake. It’s all about the numbers on the Bibbulman Track! Nothing is left uncounted – not even the squares of loo paper… in the end, it all comes down to weight and what I can carry comfortably and remain protected from the elements and nourished.

Smooth ride for school bus route Children will enjoy a smooth ride as work on the improvements to Golden Downs Road near completion. The road is part of the Kilcummin school bus route and Isaac Regional Council’s roads crew are working towards a June finish.
“We expect the final coat seal to be carried out by the end of June following some delays due to Tropical Cyclone Debbie.” The project is part of Council’s 2016-17 “Connecting Our Communities” Budget.
Golden Downs Road, north-west of Clermont, has undergone a $1.7 million transformation to boost safety and accessibility.
Minor speed restrictions will be in place during construction and motorists are advised to follow roadwork signage.
Acting Mayor Geoff Bethel said at the end of the project, this road will have 11.49km of bitumen seal.
Keep an eye on Council’s website for updates on the construction of the project.
“These works are crucial because this road forms part of Kilcummin State School’s main bus route,” he said.

2017 St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend Spinning legendary bush yarns, delectable pork crackling and stunning birdlife have put St Lawrence’s signature event on the map. Isaac Regional Council’s 8th annual St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend, held on June 9-11, burst to life with markets, a family movie, tours and basket weaving.
The festival highlights were camp oven cooking extraordinaire Ranger Nick, Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary’s reptiles and the mouth-watering Bushman’s Dinner. Organisers happily reported the basket weaving and screen printing workshops were fully booked throughout Saturday’s activities.

Holiday fun at library
Ozobots are back!
Clermont Library will be holding children’s holiday craft sessions during the June/July school holidays.
Ozobots are small robots that can teach children basic programming and coding aimed at children aged from 4 years. Bookings are essential.
These sessions are suitable for children aged from five years and bookings are essential as each session is limited to 15 participants.
Indigenous artist Lloyd Hornsby returns Indigenous artist, Lloyd Hornsby will return to Isaac next month to hold workshops during NAIDOC Week, which is also the second week of the school holidays. Previously held workshops in Isaac for both adults and children have been very popular as every participant takes home a piece of artwork. Clermont Library will host two workshops from 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm on Monday, July 3 and both workshops are suitable for children aged five years and up. Bookings are essential.
Children can draw tracks using red, blue, green and black markers for the Ozobot to read and move about.
All craft sessions will be held from 10am to 11am.
STEM: Ozobot sessions will be held on Thursdays from 3.30pm to 4pm.

Story Time Adventure Book Program The Story Time Adventure Book Program is held every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am. If you are unable to attend Storytime one week all rhyme sheets and craft/activities sheets will be available for the duration of the 10-week program.

Baby Bounce, Storytime, Craft and Rhymetime The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a good way to connect with other parents with young children. Baby Bounce Come along on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song.

CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Open gym This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.
MetaPWR MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. Lets lift This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Metafit This is a 30 minutes bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
