PARK of HEROes kyiv, ukraine, 2017 I. Volynets, M.Protsyk
The main idea of the proposed park of heroes was to create a space that celebrates the history in a delicate way. But at the same time park should be a comfortable place for people that live in this neighbourhood, for those who participated in war, and are nowadays heroes. The main emphasize was not on monuments, but on the future. The proposed solution for the whole area reflects the site identity. We are keeping all pine trees but removing all shruds and other small trees. One of the symbolic elements that we used in garden was a mirror. It located in a way that reflect the sky. In a way it supports our idea of the future with respect to the history. The park area is divided on a four functional areas: sport, open sqaure, garden, and pavilion. Sport areas consist of playgrounds for different age groups. Open sqaure with a pavilion can be an ice skating space in winter time or a space for any cultural event. Garden creates a labirynth in an open sqaure area.

waterfront garden Liepaja, latvia, 2016 I.Volynets, M.Protsyk
The Waterfront garden main idea was to create landform architecture in area of the Triple Bridge Waterfront in Liepaja, Latvia. The main emphasis was not on the building, but on the surrounding environment and waterfront. It resulted in environmentally friendly architectural shape, which combines all functions inside it. The main inspiration derives from characteristic landscape of the city and it was main prototype for form creation process. One shape, separated on two strands and in result are twisted in vertical and horizontal directions. In some places are holes, to make connections through all the territory to the street and to the waterfront. Strands are going through all masterplan area, in some places they are lit ed into the air, in some – go down to water, and cover waterfront in the upper level. The main functions inside strands are restaurants, cafes, night club, bar and huge exhibition hall. On first floor is located outdated public library, where people will spend their time with amazing view to the Liepaja Canal. h e library has connections to exhibition spaces on i rst and second l oor. One of the most interesting things in block with restaurants and cafes is interactive space that will change its appearance during the day and occasion.

ART CENTER Kyiv, Ukraine, 2013 I.Volynets, M.Protsyk
The main idea of the project is to create cultural space on the territory of Andriyivskyy Descent in Kyiv. The Architectural conception of the space depends on historical values of Andriyivskyy Descent, its unique beauty and genuine spirit of the street. he main building is a landscape-building, which preserves historical surroundings and Zamkova hill silhouette. It becomes like an interaction of the building and landscape. The main curvilinear building starts from the pedestrian part of Frolivska street and goes through the whole territory and finishes at Andriyivskyy descent. The curvilinear building is not only cultural space but also recreation space. he building with diferent functions are also located on this territory, namely cafĂŠ, restaurant and conference room. The open green amphitheatre is situated in the heart of the cultural space. The cultural space, as a general function, connects all the buildings of the area. Furthermore, it accumulates a variety of functions: exhibition and exposition halls, place for relaxation and alternative studying, library halls, lounge zone and service room. Each building has an entrance to the street, green amphitheater and other buildings. The whole cultural space is like a labyrinth.

The living complex is a new landmark in a small town. Three living blocks are an extension of the mountain - the most significant part of the area. The landform building and environmental-friendly approach establish a new relationships between the future of the town and its unique beauty, between nature and architecture, indoor and outdoor. Each of the three sections has its own vertical communication. However the blocks are united by social spaces, one on top of the parking and another - on top of the middle block. Each apartment has a terrace that improves the connection between inside and outside. The average area of the terrace is a half of the apartment area.

Villa A Alsaker, norway, 2017 Volynets architectural bureau, Helen & Partners
The house is located on the site in the way to separate space on public, semi-private, and private. It is divided on floors by the terrain. The house is a combination of inside functions and outdoor areas. In addition, it has a great view to the fjord. Amongst the regular rooms, like kitchen, living, and bedrooms, this house has separate building for guests, sauna, and winery. There is a huge terrace on the last floor, pergola from main sleep, and winter garden with an access from the dining room.

three sisters Forde, norway, 2015 Volynets architectural bureau, Helen & Partners
In project Tre Søstre, an artificial mountain in the heart of Førde City, we re-think the relationship between nature and architecture as building becomes one with the landscape. The main concept is based on a typical Norwegian house, in which street views are abundant. We created a new prototype where a group of homes is connected by one silhouette. Moreover, Norway’s natural beauty is a great inspiration. It’s lush and mountainous terrain is as unique as it is impressive. We found success with this method in the three Sisters project, in which we used the form of the mountains to create a consistent building shape. The landscape design is consistent with architectural conception. We created a space where people will be comfortable; where they can socialize in public space or relax in privacy. Common areas near the roads will have walking paths, green zones and skating spaces. The waterfront will be more secluded, yet still connected to the surroundings. The parking area is covered through landform and provides additional parking for bicycles. This project is breaked by diferent levels with stairs and ramps. he green roof is connected to the landscape and becomes public space with stepped terraces and green walking paths.

Villa jenny Osoyro, norway, 2015 Volynets architectural bureau, Helen & Partners
The project was developed in collaboration with norwegian architectural company Helen&Partners for a family of four members. The main idea was to situate a house on a slope hill that is oriented towards a fjord. The resulted form is an imitation of moving topography of the terrain. All of the important rooms are oriented towards the best view of the territory. The roof is accessible from the first floor and is a recreational space for the whole family. The big part of the roof will be covered with grass.

research
landform [in] architecture The book was developed during my time in the Department of Architecture at the University of Oregon, USA as a Visiting Fulbright Researcher. Landform architecture opens up new possibilities for relationships between natural systems and built form, landscape and architecture. It has the potential to blur boundaries between past and present, exterior and interior, ground and underground, natural and artiicial. Landform architecture is a unique approach that allows architects to connect people, buildings and nature in an intricate way. It makes it possible to create structures and systems that evolve and change over time. Landform buildings are those that become part of existing environments or new nature-like forms that blend into landscapes. Exploration of landform buildings involves all senses. Naturally-formed shapes provoke us not only to appreciate buildings as aesthetic structures, but also to experience them through feelings and touch, sounds and vision. Landform buildings are designed to respond to topography, territory and urban ecosystems. They derive from the study and understanding of natural forms and processes. This research is focused on the exploration of natural land forms, the way they form themselves and the way they change over time. We can understand and design this kind of architecture by making reference to the original source: land and its forms. hus, the architectural exploration becomes an exploration of landform [in] architecture. In this work, I present landform buildings in terms of “geomorphism - the study of geological forces and resulting forms. In these terms, landform is a process, with emphasis on factors that have an inluence on their formation. hus, landform is the resulting shape. The first part of this book is an exploration and analysis of natural landforms: glaciers, volcanoes, dunes and rivers. In this chapter I use drawing to study the ways nature forms itself, the factors that inluence these processes, and how these forms change over time. Similar to natural landforms, landform buildings also adjust to environmental conditions. The scale factor of landform buildings plays one of the greatest roles on the territory. hus, I decided to analyze natural forms in a precise way by looking at rocks and minerals. The second part of this book is made up of case studies of existing projects that I visited during this academic year. In this chapter, I use drawing to study these buildings in terms of geomorphological processes and topographical conditions. The third part of the book is design work. In this chapter, I show design projects that I have developed this year in academic and professional collaborations. This work represents the practical extension of my studies of landform building as both a process and as a form.
