A backstage, onstage, mix-it-up featuring some of California’s finest flamencos. The Barclay and the Festival present an “eye-opening” flamenco experience. 1990-2015 In 1974, Irvine voters approved the first of two bond issues to support the construction of a community performing arts facility. It was finally a partnership of the City of Irvine, the University of California, Irvine, and the volunteer leadership and professional staff of the nonprofit Irvine Barclay Theatre Operating Company that refined the vision and got the job done. The city led the construction; the university provided the land; the theatre’s operating company augmented public support with millions of dollars of private contributions including major gifts from the Barclay family, the Cheng family and The Irvine Company. Irvine Barclay Theatre opened to the public on September 30, 1990.
