About Irrigation Australia Irrigation Australia Ltd is Australia’s peak national organisation representing the Australian rural and urban irrigation industry. Irrigation Australia Ltd was founded in 2007 as a result of the merger of the Irrigation Association of Australia (IAA) and the Australian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (ANCID). Its membership includes all sectors of the industry - from water users, consultants, designers and installers through to educational institutions, government agencies, manufacturers and retailers. It also has an international connection as the Australian representative body of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID). Irrigation Australia is a member-based, not-for-profit organisation with its national office in Brisbane. It also has regional committees around Australia. These committees are active in promoting the interests of members and in organising training and networking events with the aim of building the strength and sustainable future of irrigation in Australia. Irrigation Australia has partnerships with organisations that share its aims and aspirations in the water sector. Partners include the Australian Hydrographers Association, Irrigation New Zealand, the National Irrigators’ Council, Pump Industry Australia, Rainwater Harvesting Australia, the Australian Water Partnership, IA USA, NT Farmers Federation, Australian Mango Industry Association and ICID.

International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID)
Irrigation Australia represents the global organisation, International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), in Australia. Established in 1950, ICID is the leading scientific, technical and notfor-profit non-governmental organisation for irrigation and drainage. Irrigation Australia has a National Committee (IACID) to represent the interests of ICID in Australia, more information can be found on our website. Every year ICID organises its WatSave awards, which acknowledge outstanding contributions to water conservation or water saving in agriculture across the world. The aim is to recognise the outstanding contribution to water conservation or water saving for the benefit of all water users. Awards are judged based on realised savings and not for promising research results, plans, ideas or intentions to save water. Australia has featured recently in these awards, with the Goulburn-Broken CMA winning an award award for its Farm Water Program – Water Saving Calculator. Winners of the 2018 WatSave award for technology were John Hornbuckle, Jamie Vleeshouwer and Janelle Montgomery from Australia. In 2019 the TrangieNevertire Irrigation Scheme was awarded the WatSave award in the Innovative Water Management category Goulburn Weir and Bleasdale Vineyards have also been recognised by ICID as Heritage Irrigation Structures, a list of mitigation structures around the world which have an archival value. In 2022 Irrigation Australia will partner with ICID to hold the biennial Irrigation Australia Conference and Exhibition, the 24th ICID International Congress and the 73rd IEC meeting in Adelaide. Certification and professional development Irrigation Australia’s certification program and training activities are designed so that industry members can upgrade their skills and demonstrate to clients and the community that their work is performed to standards of best practice. Certification program
Certified irrigation professionals are members who are certified in Irrigation Australia’s certification program in one or more of the eight disciplines of certification. Becoming a certified irrigation professional helps to lift the skills, knowledge and standards of the whole industry, which will help the irrigation industry control its own future and become more sustainable. There are personal benefits too. The program recognises the skills of irrigation professionals, which can contribute to better career prospects. Certification also grants industry members a point of difference in the market. A certified irrigation professional is highly regarded by customers as being able to provide a service that meets or exceeds the average industry standards. Areas of certification. Professional development
Certificate qualifications. Through its registered training organisation Irrigation Training Australia (ITA), Irrigation Australia provides a range of industry related training courses and workshops that contribute towards nationally accredited qualifications including Certificate III in Irrigation Technology (AHC32419), a trade level qualification that commenced in 2020, and Certificate IV in Irrigation Management (AHC41119). Irrigation Australia’s training in Certificate III in Irrigation Technology (ACH32419) trade level course, provides students with a broad range of topics about the latest industry innovations, techniques and practices. The qualification reflects the skills and knowledge required to become an irrigation installer, operator, retailer or technician for residential, commercial or agricultural industries.
Industry participants who have previously completed a Certificate III in Irrigation (AHC32416) may be eligible to upgrade to the Certificate III in Irrigation Technology. Irrigation Australia offers an upgrade course that covers the extra eight units of competency that make up the 22 units of the Certificate III in Irrigation Technology trade level qualification. Industry participants can complete a Certificate IV in Irrigation Management through Irrigation Australia by completing coursework. Short courses.
