Sonja Babich, group publisher of Wisconsin Bride magazine, serves as MC and presenter of awards for the main event of the night.

The Looking Glass Bakery provided this elegant cake, serving as the perfect contrast to the traditional bridal white cake.

5.

Wisconsin Bride team members take time in the program to thank the many generous sponsors who made the event possible.

Sally Vander Wyst, owner of Milwaukee Flower Co., and Ramsey Renno, owner of The Ivy House, enjoy the ambiance and an opportunity to connect.

Blossoms in shades of pink and highlights of green filled the room with bouquets from Blooms by Brandi and 414loral.

GO WITH THE GRAIN

NOTHING SAYS MODERN ROMANCE like minimalist simplicity. With clean, geometric lines, light wood and lots of natural light, Mosinee Brewing, a brand-new venue, makes the perfect setting for a contemporary celebration of love.

1.YOUR ONE AND ONLY

Make a statement with a personalized celebration that reflects your unique love story. Vintage rugs lead to the triangular altar, where our boho bride, in a BHLDN gown, boots and sassy hat, kicks up her heels before she and her partner, elegant in a cream-colored suit, say “I do.”

2.OH SO INVITING

A graphic wall adds visual interest, framing family-style reception tables, while leather chairs add warmth. The airy botanical installation floats above, with grain-inspired florals that nod to the space’s first use as a brewery.

3.SIMPLY LUSCIOUS

A sculptural bridal cake from Zest Bakery and Coffeehouse sits atop a statement stand. Dried florals add a delicate textural trace to the marble-smooth frosting — a refreshing treat for the eyes (and, of course, the palate).

4.BE OUR GUEST

Taper candles illuminate the head table, lined with neutral place settings and dainty floral accents, for an understated look of sophistication.

5.NATURAL ELEGANCE

The table is set with woven chargers, handmade ceramic dinnerware from Bit of Earth Pottery Co., and wooden utensils. The menu designed by Shelby Lynn Designs features botanical images to top off each setting.

6.A SPECIAL TOAST

Along with its versatile venue and laid-back atmosphere, the centrally located Mosinee Brewing Co. offers its own craft beer.

7.LEAVES OF GRASS

A meadow-inspired bouquet keeps it unconventional, with feathery stems for softness and a spare, chic all-white palette.

Historical Charm with Updated Amenities

The Riviera Ballroom has a storied history. Built in the early 1900s and now listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, it has long been a gathering place for festivities in Lake Geneva. Many parents of engaged couples fondly remember going the Riviera as their first date location. With 20-foot ceilings, lots of natural light, a beautiful view

of Lake Geneva and a veranda leading down to the docks , it’s been an elegant venue space for years.

And now, it’s even better. The newly remodeled Riviera hosted its first postrenovation wedding in May 2021, followed by an open house in July. Nashotah-based design firm MSI General oversaw major upgrades

such as new video and audio systems, enhanced lighting (including a classic crystal and brass chandelier), a new wooden dance floor, updated restrooms and a restored bar area. The venue also provides packages that include tables and chairs with set-up and take-down.

—Stephanie Janssen, Lake Geneva Riviera, Lake Geneva, lakegenevariviera.com

MAKE YOUR WEDDING A WORK OF ART

When you’re planning a wedding, you always think about the photographer—but now you might also want to consider a painter. Live wedding painting is a hot new trend in the wedding scene, a unique way to capture your special moments. As you consider artists, take a look at their style, as well as cost and whether the artist will need to travel. Finally, book the artist as soon as possible because schedules fill up quickly.

Nicole Bobholz, a Milwaukee-based artist, got into wedding painting through a friend. She typically arrives at the venue two to three hours early to set up and start painting the background. Guests can watch her in action as she captures a special moment of the couple’s choosing, usually during the ceremony or at the reception. She’ll continue painting throughout the event, so the couple can depart for their next chapter with a finished masterpiece in hand.

Say Yes to a Luxury Dress

White Dress Off the Rack began as a two-month pop-up store in Milwaukee, selling high-end floor samples from its sister boutique White Dress Bridal Boutique, when owner Christina Wegner saw that no local shops offered an off-the-rack option. When she started her new venture, she made sure it also offered personalized service and quick turnarounds so brides could take the gown home the same day. Off the Rack opened as a permanent location at 196 S. Second St. in January 2020.

Offering top designers plus an array of accessories, the boutique is expanding, adding 1,500 square feet to accommodate more fitting rooms, dresses and a unique shopping experience. Currently, the shop carries sizes 8-12, with prices from $750 to $1,500.

Off the Rack’s dedicated staff aim to create a no-pressure, no-stress environment where you have fun shopping for your dream dress. Their mission: “We are more alive when we are in love— let us help you find ‘The One’!”

GOING THE DISTANCE

Jacquelyn & Scott

WEDDING: May 29, 2021 PHOTOGRAPHER: Lusia Studio Photography

CEREMONY: Stella Maris Catholic Church, Sister Bay RECEPTION: Northern Haus, Sister Bay HONEYMOON: TBD in 2022

In 2011, Scott Carroll took a trip with friends while they were attending Iowa State University; little did he know he’d be proposing to the student leading the trip, Jacquelyn Luedtke, nine years later. Throughout college, the two ran into each other occasionally and finally went on a date. Then they went their separate ways, moving to different states for work. In 2017, they rekindled their relationship over Snapchat, and Jacquelyn flew to see Scott after a few months of talking. They have been together ever since. Two and a half years later, Scott, a woodworker, presented a handmade ring box and asked her to marry him outside the home they

built together. Their wedding theme, “Wildly in love” perfectly described their relationship, so wildflowers of all colors were, of course, the natural choice for florals. “They symbolize the uniqueness for us to be able to grow on our own, but come together to create a beautiful love story,” Jacquelyn says. To honor the groom’s side, his mother made a ring pillow from the dress and suit his grandparents wore when they got married, embroidering the date of Jacquelyn and Scott’s day. As the night came to a close, everyone danced to “The Nights” by Avicii, a song that embodies the couple’s motto: “Live a life that you’ll always remember.”

ROMEO & JULIET

Michelle & Austin

WEDDING: June 12, 2021

CEREMONY & RECEPTION: Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum, Milwaukee

HONEYMOON: Scottsdale, Arizona

PHOTOGRAPHY

Kelly Grace Photography

Michelle Kosirowski knew something was special about Austin Matovich the moment she saw him as a UPS driver trainee when she was working at her family’s business. Nearly a month of flirting went by before Michelle got the courage to ask Austin out for dinner and drinks, which he happily agreed to. Eighteen months later, Austin took lead on the next major ask. “He told me how much I changed his life and how much he loved me. Then he told me to cover my eyes,” Michelle says. “When I opened them, he was kneeling with the ring in his hand.” Inspired by French and Italian style, the couple’s choice of Villa Terrace on Lake Michigan and a palette of creams, tans and

champagne transported their guests to the European seaside. Antique brass candlesticks, white florals, olive sprigs and jars of olive oil as thank-you favors adorned the tables, enhancing the Romeo and Juliet ambiance Michelle and Austin were going for. The ancient Celtic tradition of handfasting was included in the ceremony, wherein the couple’s hands are bound together, symbolizing the new union of bride and groom. The couple also sipped from the same glass of wine in the wine blessing, agreeing to share all that life has to offer. One of the special moments was sneaking away from the reception to enjoy a few moments together as a brand-new married couple.

TO OLD & NEW MEMORIES

Lauren & Nick

WEDDING: April 24, 2021

CEREMONY & RECEPTION: The Tinsmith, Madison

HONEYMOON: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Fate was on the side of Lauren Faust and Nick Urumoglu when the two crossed paths at a bar in Madison in the summer of 2012. But they were no strangers; Nick had been in the Facebook friend-zone since 2009 after meeting through mutual friends. After a few months of dating, the couple finally became “Facebook official.” Five blissful years later, Nick popped the question, creating a new special memory at Lauren’s family’s cabin on Long Island in the Apostle Islands, otherwise known as Lauren’s “sacred paradise.” COVID postponed their original date, but their new date landed on the one-year anniversary they adopted their puppy, Moose, so “Moscow Moose” cocktails were served in

his honor. The sea-glass palette paid homage to Lauren’s childhood tradition of collecting sea glass with her mom and grandma at the same cabin where Nick proposed, on Lake Superior. Vases and other décor in sea glass colors, collected by Lauren and her mom, adorned the tables along with greenery and white florals. Lauren’s godmother officiated and Nick’s family Facetimed from Turkey. One of the couple’s close friends, who was to be a bridesmaid, had passed away before the wedding, so the couple honored her with a special bouquet and black heart stickers for brain aneurysm awareness from the organization Black Heart Traveler, created in her memory.

THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL

Tiarra & Keyandre

WEDDING: May 23, 2021

CEREMONY & RECEPTION: The Treasury, Delavan HONEYMOON: Cancun, Mexico

PHOTOGRAPHY

Selycia Yang Photography

Tiarra Jones was at Keyandre Clayton’s workplace seeking assistance, and after his “excellent customer service,” they chatted for two hours about everything from traveling to life goals. “It’s funny how they say you don’t find your soulmate by looking,” she observes. Months later, around Valentine’s Day, Keyandre asked Tiarra out. A year and a half later, Keyandre asked for Tiarra’s hand in marriage on Christmas Day amid the lights of downtown Milwaukee, surrounded by close friends and family. Although the couple had to cut their guest list to 40 due to the pandemic, the venue was

overflowing with love. A marquee “Love” sign topped with balloons cast a glow as the couple exchanged vows. And because of the smaller guest list, the bride could give them a classy “white glove experience.” Tables filled with roses, orchids and greenery matched the dreamy palette of pinks, whites and green. The unique cake decorated with pink, white, and gold buttercream was a crowd pleaser, featuring a champagne filling. One of Tiarra’s favorite biblical quotes mentions love as the greatest gift of all—exactly what the new couple captured on their unforgettable day.

ONE SWIPE AWAY

Alissa & Melissa

WEDDING: May 14, 2021

CEREMONY & RECEPTION: Mercantile Hall, Burlington

HONEYMOON DESTINATION: Hawaii

Swiping right was the right move for Alissa Straub and Melissa Laasch, who met through dating app Bumble. Eight months later, on a trip to Myrtle Beach, Mel surprised Alissa with a proposal via a custom-made beer flight. “It was completely unexpected,” Mel said. “Alissa said some surprised expletives when I started to propose, but of course ended with a ‘Yes!’ ” Her proposal was a tough act to follow, but two months later, Alissa proposed on the balcony of Mel’s apartment with a prepared display of their “firsts”: first concert tickets, first airplane flight and, of course, a picture of the first “yes” from Myrtle

Beach. From Mel’s aunt officiating to Alissa’s mom walking her down the aisle, their beautiful sunny day could not have gone better. Mel’s daughters Zoey and Jenna were junior bridesmaids, walked their mom down the aisle and participated in a paint pouring ceremony, a symbol of blending the two families into one. Alissa also wrote vows to Mel’s daughters—a favorite keepsake for the couple that provoked laughter, and, of course, tears of joy. With only having four dance lessons, music lovers Mel and Alissa nonetheless danced the night away as loved ones listened to their homemade playlists.

Sarah Waller and Hunter Magdanz’s love story began when they matched on a dating site in 2019. The two ended up dating other people for a while, but those relationships didn’t work out. A few months later, Sarah knew she had to give Hunter another chance when they matched again and she noticed their aligned morals and similar interests. Hunter forgave her for not replying to earlier messages, and less than a year later, he took Sarah to the park bench where they had sat on their first date near a gorgeous floral display, dropped to one knee and popped the question with their sisters looking on. As

an event planner herself, Sarah was ecstatic to finally be planning her own wedding, even with the uncertainty of COVID. Everything came together even better than expected, with Sarah’s sisters, nieces and cousin among her bridesmaids and Hunter’s uncle officiating, and before the ceremony, during their first look, the couple shared personal, handwritten vows. The bride’s mother walked her down the aisle to an arch made by the groom’s father (later used in a headboard for the newlyweds). Bright bouquets of peonies, Sarah’s favorite flower, and cheery tablescapes symbolized the happiness of the day.

BOWLING FOR LOVE

Jessica & Josh

WEDDING: May 7, 2021

CEREMONY & RECEPTION: Carriage House at Lac La Belle, Oconomowoc

HONEYMOON: Maldives and Santorini

PHOTOGRAPHY

Mattea Rose Photography

Bowling and one-dollar drinks were the start to Jessica Kriesel and Josh Koltermann’s love story. Jessica asked Josh to buy her a drink; he declined, and she thought, “Challenge accepted!” Four years of dating later, Josh clandestinely bought a ring—which Jessica’s parents discovered when they went to clean the couple’s house that flooded while they were working at the Bassmaster Classic. Josh swore them to secrecy, and everyone kept mum until April 2019, when the two were on Jessica’s dream European vacation. Josh hired a photographer and videographer to catch

his proposal in front of the Eiffel Tower, and of course, she said “Yes!” Jessica’s whimsical garden vision came to life at Lac La Belle, with an outdoor ceremony on the golf course, showcasing Josh’s love for the sport. The indoor reception featured a one-ofa-kind hanging floral installation filled with blush roses, greenery and wisteria above the table. A favorite moment was when their officiant paused the ceremony, told them to face the crowd and said, “This is the one moment in your lives where you will see this group of people all together at once, supporting your love.”

SOMETHING SPECIAL

Emily & Ray

WEDDING: January 23, 2021

CEREMONY: St. James 1868, Milwaukee RECEPTION: The Atrium, Shorewood HONEYMOON: Mexico

PHOTOGRAPHY

Uttke Photography & Design

Emily Head and Ray Riordan’s kismet meeting was at a wedding at the Milwaukee Art Museum, where he was the DJ and she was the wedding planner. Ray noticed her right away, and after sneaking glances at him, Emily went up to introduce herself. As the evening went on, they found any excuse to talk to each other and finally exchanged numbers. Their first date was a few days later; “Instantly we knew this was something special,” Emily said. The couple found themselves back where it all began a year later, when Ray “spontaneously” suggested they stop in the museum before dinner. Emily was surprised to see an aisle of candles

and flowers leading up to the very spot the two met, with their song, “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young playing in the background. The surprises didn’t end there: Ray had arranged an engagement party with their immediate family. Before their wedding ceremony, the two did a first look where Emily made her way down the aisle to Ray, “the perfect combination of the traditional ‘seeing the bride walk down the aisle’ and having that intimate moment just between the two of us,” Emily says. Guests celebrated the newlyweds’ love sipping their signature cocktail, named after their puppy, Hadley. *
