WE ARE ENTERING A BOLD NEW ERA OF WEDDING STYLE, and we’re so happy you’re joining us for the adventure, dear reader! Norms are being redefined, rules are being broken, traditions are being rewritten, and we’re here for it.

While this issue has so many moments to be inspired by, I have a few personal favorites. Take our cover photo, with the Allure black mermaid gown from Vera’s House of Bridals. This eye-catching gown — just one of many — was part of an incredible photo shoot (“Come Away With Me,” page 34). From the outstanding team of vendors, to the ultra-hip locale of Milwaukee’s Saint Kate boutique hotel, to the gowns pulled from some of the most beloved bridal shops of Wisconsin — it was nothing short of extraordinary. And, it was Wisconsin Bride’ s first fashion shoot in a few years — an encouraging sign of a return to normalcy.

But, that’s not all! This issue is also host to an array of sumptuous styled shoots and astounding local weddings, all with trendy and out-of-the-box ideas you’ve been craving. Take a look, see what you like, and make it your own. It’s okay to be daringly different!

Finally, I’d also like to congratulate Sonja Babich for taking the exciting leap from publisher to owner of Wisconsin Bride and our five other sister publications. THE TERRACE AT MARINA CIRCLE

Green Bay’s newest event venue is a sleek, urban space that combines comfort and elegance. The Terrace at Marina Circle, perched on the sixth floor of 2465 Marina Circle, is just the thing for the modern couple looking for something different in an intimate space.

Offering stunning views of the Fox River and Green Bay’s skyline from the floor-to-ceiling windows, contemporary gold chandeliers, natural wood touches and custom-built comfy furniture, the rooftop venue is the fresh space today’s couples seek. An adjacent outdoor terrace is the perfect place to mingle during the cocktail hour.

A gleaming built-in bar is in the space, as is a small prep kitchen. You can use the caterer of your choice for food and beverage or consult the list of excellent suggestions provided by the venue manager, Allison Kline.

Putting Her Focus on Fashion

Jessica Bedore went from photographing gorgeous bridal gowns to selling them. She fell in love with photography while working as a PR intern for the Green Bay Packers after college, eventually parlaying her skills into her own photography business.

As a photographer, Bedore loved the aesthetics of wedding fashion, an interest that blossomed as she worked as a bridal consultant at Tie the Knot Bridal in Green Bay. Her interest only grew from there, prompting her to buy the business. Now, “As a boutique owner, I don’t work with brides as much as I used to, but I get to travel to designers and pick out the latest styles and trends, which is so fun!”

Bedore strives to create unique, unmatched experiences for brides, “starting with how they feel when they walk through our doors, continuing to how they feel in our gowns and ending with their ‘yes’ moment.” Her goal is to have her customers find the perfect dress without having to travel to larger cities.

Tie the Knot offers a variety of sizes and designers to choose from, including Essense of Australia, Stella York, Martina Liana and more. The boutique’s branding is being revamped, and in-store improvements and some special touches are pending.

Pantone describes the 2022 Color of the Year, Very Peri, as a “color whose courageous presence encourages personal inventiveness and creativity,” and we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite periwinkle photos from local vendors.

Soft, delicate and subdued, this dainty bridesmaid’s bouquet by Atmospheric Floral offers a subtle hint of a soft lavender shade with lisianthus. Balanced by peony, snapdragon, scented geranium and jasmine, the overall look is complete with a floral gown.

Any bride can feel pretty as a princess in this ephemeral blue and purple custom gown, “Cloud” by Kelly Szramek of Kelly Grace Bridal. Pastel gowns are of-the-moment, and Szramek created this dream come true (inspired by the ice castles where this photo was taken) to be “light, airy and fiercely feminine.”

The harmonious hues of purple, white and blue in these tulips, anemone, muscari, daffodil, and viburnum foliage are a muchanticipated breath of fresh air after a long Wisconsin winter. Sunborn Gardens not only designed these centerpieces, but also grew all the flowers on their farm in Mt. Horeb.

Kelsey Swanson said there was an instant connection to her future husband, Devin Graf, when the two found each other on Tinder in 2017. Before their first date, they spent almost two weeks chatting on the dating app; after that, they were inseparable. Their love grew over the next three years, and Devin knew it was time to pop the question. An evening pontoon ride on White Potato Lake was the perfect place, with the couple’s parents nearby awaiting the inevitable celebration. As the golden hour approached, Devin, on bended knee, surprised Kelsey with an engagement ring Devin

designed, featuring her mother’s diamond as the center stone. Afterward, they celebrated with champagne and a family bonfire by the lake, one of their favorite summer activities. The couple wed on a gorgeous autumn day with their godparents acting as ushers and readers at their Catholic Mass ceremony. At the Tinsmith, shades of maroon, dark linens, and candles made for a cozy ambience. Kelsey says there were no strangers by the end of the night, as everyone celebrated under the glow of the hanging Edison bulbs, followed by a full dance floor and an array of mini pies.

It’s no surprise that Jack Porritt and Rachel Beletti ended up together. Growing up, both spent summers on Lake Geneva, though they didn’t cross paths until 2012, when they met through mutual friends in college. The couple’s romance was a journey: college, long-distance dating, making a home together in Chicago, and, of course, a proposal. A nervous Jack took Rachel to their favorite lookout spot on the lake to pop the question. Then, another surprise: an engagement party with family and friends. It was only fitting the couple wed on

Lake Geneva. “It grew to become such a meaningful spot for us,” Rachel said. A bright and airy palette of whites and greens welcomed guests as they found their table numbers written on miniature boats. The first look was a favorite moment for the couple, full of joyful tears. As the reception began, Jack and Rachel impressed everyone with their first dance, which they had been practicing for months before the wedding. “We still like to dance in our kitchen,” Rachel says, “to remind us of that moment.”

High school sweethearts Emily Hilby and Austin Kilburg met as sophomores and their relationship grew while on the high school track team together in 2011. As Emily’s crush on Austin grew, she tempted him with brownies she brought on a team fishing trip, and he was hooked. Austin planned to propose three times, but each time, various obstacles prevented him; he finally had the chance in 2020 during a hike at Whitewater State Park. “I joke that I ‘blacked out,’ because I don’t remember exactly what was said, other than being deliriously happy and being sure that I said ‘Yes!’ at some point,” Emily says. On the big day, the bride wore an emerald necklace passed down from

her grandparents, inspiring the color palette of deep green and white. Frequent travelers and adventure enthusiasts, Emily and Austin had guests sign a globe in lieu of a guest book; ceremony programs that looked like passports and luggage tags served as favors. Emily’s grandma was the flower girl, and the bride says her heart stopped when she saw her best friend awaiting her at the end of the aisle. Emily’s “something blue” — a heart-shaped piece of her dad’s old work jeans sewn into her gown — made his spirit a presence. A table was dedicated to photos of loved ones who had passed, who, Emily and Austin knew, were in heaven having a celebration of their own.

Keeley Susienka and Melina Lamer were introduced through a mutual friend who was carpooling with them to a concert. Sparks flew throughout the night, ending with the two exchanging numbers and planning a coffee date on campus at St. Olaf College, where they both were students. After eight years together, Keeley made a sentimental highlight video of their relationship, followed by her proposal. Later, Melina surprised Keeley with a proposal during a trip to Madeline Island on Lake Superior. Their wedding day featured

the idyllic backdrop of Hidden Meadow and Barn, where the couple opted for bright florals to match their bold color scheme. After the couple said “I do” amid the weeping willows, family shared heartfelt speeches. “It was so moving to hear what our family members thought about our relationship,” Melina says. Loved ones enjoyed a delicious marble cake and pies for dessert, followed by the DJ playing the couple’s favorite songs. “We danced our hearts out to those songs, and the vibe was all-around amazing,” Melina says.

Brandon Tarbet knew Valerie Iehl was a catch when they met in 2011 through an ultimate Frisbee competition in Chicago. After a getting to know each other, the couple began their romance the following year. The next eight years were filled with hikes, backpacking adventures and adopting their dog, Brix. Brandon wanted to propose in the mountains, but COVID derailed his plans, so, he opted for a walk around the Windy City, stopping at all their favorite patios until reaching Lake Michigan, where he asked Val to marry him. The couple’s love of the outdoors was on full display at their wedding,

as loved ones gathered in the serene forest at Burlap & Bells, where they exchanged “I do’s” in front of a macramé backdrop made by the bride and her mother. Val’s mother and grandmother thrifted the candelabras that adorned the tables and the champagne glasses guests raised in toasts. “The whole décor process was a labor of love,” Val says. Despite some rainy weather, their wedding day was bright, with a multi-color palette featuring yellows, oranges, blues and purples. As the rain cleared, everyone headed to the dance floor to celebrate the newlyweds — nothing could rain on the newlyweds’ parade.

Jenna Kienbaum’s mom knew her co-worker Jordan Rhodes and her daughter would be a great match. Like any daughter, Jenna told her mom no, but after thinking it over, she reluctantly let her mom give her number to Jordan. Turns out Mother really does know best: The two met over margaritas and immediately hit it off. Five years later, Jenna and Jordan were wine tasting at the Epcot Center in Florida when they stopped in “Paris” for a champagne flight. She knew something was up when he ordered Dom Pérignon, her favorite, and their flight became a toast to their engagement. Their 60-person

wedding showcased a vibrant palette of fuchsia with pops of orange, inspired by designer Lilly Pulitzer. Glorious florals featuring peonies and greenery adorned the grand arch at the altar, the bouquets and, of course, the collar of Charlotte, the couple’s Boston terrier. In lieu of a sit-down-dinner, Jenna and Jordan opted for hors d’oeuvres throughout the night, featuring everything from grilled cheese to seared scallops, with cake and cake pops for dessert. The dueling pianos band was a huge hit. “I honestly don’t think there was a single person at our wedding who wasn’t singing or dancing!” Jenna says.

A friend coaxed Karly Schultz into joining Bumble in January 2017, and she hesitantly downloaded the app. After swiping right on Ryan Anderson, the two chatted about their Midwest roots (they lived in Denver at the time), and it became clear there was something special. “Ryan was the first ‘swipe right’ I met in person,” Karly says. Even though Ryan and Karly knew after only two weeks that they would get married, the couple waited a year and a half to check out engagement rings. The proposal was nonetheless a surprise; during a trip to Chicago, Ryan led Karly to their hotel’s balcony, where she was welcomed with

a romantic display of rose petals and candles. Ryan proceeded to ask for her hand in marriage as all their parents watched from across the street. After two years of planning and replanning, the two were ecstatic to finally get married. The Milwaukee Art Museum was rife with rose floral displays and a soft color palette to create a timeless garden theme within the museum’s modern architecture. After sharing a heartwarming first look, it was time to walk down the aisle. “Seeing each other at either end, filled with so much emotion and anticipation, is a moment that will be impossible to forget,” Karly said.

Joseph Picchetti and Madelyn Yee have a love of plays to thank for their kismet meeting while studying theater at Marquette University in 2010. Over the next nine years, the couple’s love grew, and marriage became the inevitable next step. But, Joe still managed to surprise Madelyn with his proposal. While visiting Chicago, he popped the question at their hotel after they had spent the day wandering around the city. “He proposed perfectly and simply, just the two of us,” Madelyn says. On their wedding day, Joe’s green tux made a statement against the palette of orange, gold, red and pink. Paying

homage to Madelyn’s Chinese heritage, a modified Chinese tea ceremony was performed, as tea was served to the parents and the bride’s grandma before couple exchanged vows. The groom’s roots were also recognized as his mom read an Irish blessing. Although Joe’s father passed in 2020, “Every time I got unexpectedly nervous, I felt him telling me that everything would be just fine,” Joe says. As guests filtered out, a small group remained. “Dancing with that group was so quintessentially us,” Madelyn said, “and I wouldn’t trade that for anything in the world.”

TIARA GAMEZ got her first taste of the wedding industry while working with her husband, Torie Gamez, at the wedding DJ company Sound by Design (of which he is now owner and president!). With a degree in fine arts and an eye on event planning, Tiara moved to Chicago where she gained experience at a corporate event planning company. But it was through planning her own Milwaukee wedding that Tiara took the leap to create her own company, Events to a T, in December 2013. Tiara and her staff build relationships with their clients that make the experience almost like a family affair. She and her team offer three wedding packages to make your dream a reality—from a package for those who want minimal help on the day of the ceremony to one for couples who want to sit back and let Events to a T handle most of the planning. With almost 10 years in the industry, Events to a T’s professional and courteous staff will go above and beyond to ensure that your special day fits your unique style.

No longer reserved for fall weddings, the rich, warm colors of this masterpiece by LoLo Loves Cakes are sure to bring pizazz to the party. Matching the terra cotta tones of the orchids from Remington’s Flowers, Laura McGuire, owner of LoLo Loves Cakes, created a stucco look and texture on the outside, with a rich dark chocolate cake with espresso buttercream and a fresh raspberry purée on the inside. @lolo_loves_cakes

Single servings are a trend born of necessity for tiny weddings in the COVID era; now they’re here to stay. These charcuterie cups by Bleu Sheep Charcuterie just might be the cutest meat and cheese presentation we’ve ever seen. They’re packed with artisanal cheeses, truffle marcona almonds, Turkish figs, triple crème Brie, Belgian lemon-zest hard salami, dried seasonal fruits, their “secret recipe” pickles and garnished with delicate florals. Drawing inspiration from pastoral art and poetry, she wore a sleek Elisabetta Polignano gown for her lakeside ceremony, the striking straw hat by French designer Les Couronnes de Victoire and a vibrant emerald and platinum engagement ring from Brilliant Earth. She finished the evening in a sparkling silver reception dress by Rebecca Vallance. @racheltkang

“A vibrant Alice in Wonderland vibe,” is how Ashley Kuehnal of Midwestern Bride aptly describes this wild and whimsical styled shoot, and we’re here for it. The Eloise, a new venue, provided a blank slate for the exuberant color scheme to take center stage. The floral artistry of Lisa Larsen of Sunborn Gardens shines throughout, from the bounty of blooms framing the bride to the sculptural array of greenery and spring botanicals twining up the seating chart.
