“LOVE IS THE BEGINNING OF THE JOURNEY, ITS END, AND THE JOURNEY ITSELF.” —Deepak Chopra
WITHOUT SOUNDING CLICHÉ , when I sat down to write this note, I couldn’t
help but think about how the journey is just as important—if not more—as the destination. While that mantra can be applied to every facet of our lives, I instantly thought about planning a wedding. (This is a wedding magazine after all!) While the wedding day is the pièce de résistance, of course, the journey to get there—and the people you encounter—are pretty amazing, too. Cherish the moments spent tasting cakes with your crew, finding your dream gown with your nearest and dearest, bonding with a florist over a love of peonies or sharing a much-needed hug with your wedding planner on a stressful day. The love, care, meetings and minutes on the road to “I do” are truly something to be treasured. I feel a similar sentiment about this issue of Wisconsin Bride. The process of selecting gorgeous pictures, reliving local couples’ big days and working with brilliant creatives is just as fulfilling as flipping through the magazine with my own two hands for the first time—magic from start to finish. together at Milwaukee’s Pritzlaff Events for a lively celebration of Wisconsin Bride’s Best of 2023 awards. The event had the highest Best of turnout that Wisconsin Bride has ever hosted, flawlessly executed by Events to a T. RETRO CHIC A NOD TO THE ’60S MOD AESTHETIC, this colorful, maximalist shoot channeled the clubhouse feel of the newly renovated Legend at Merrill Hills—and then some. “The gorgeous mid-century modern lighting fixtures and wood-paneled bar really highlighted and paid homage to the rich history of the club,” says Eve Cusack of Blue Fancy Events. “I used that as the design starting point.” The team leaned in to magenta, the 2023 Pantone Color of the Year, as the core color, and added in soft pastels to create a vibrant palette. The ceremony space featured an installation of old-school luggage and trunks with sprays of florals intertwined. “I wanted our table décor to feel maximalist but not overwhelming or outdated—like a ladies luncheon or tea party in the late ’60s,” notes Cusack. Interesting linens, bounding floral arrangements, papaya-colored napkins, gold cutlery and vintage glassware complemented the brass starbursts, rattan baskets and colorful candlesticks in a tasteful spread. Infusing more flair into the scheme, the bride wore a flirty short dress with feathered bell sleeves and modified empire waist, a look that was finished with her hair in loose waves held to the side with silver butterfly hair ornaments. Other standout details of the day brought home the vintage air, from the cake with brightly colored traditional piping to the retro stationery suite.

COLOR BURST Haley Geliche and Matt Christensen knew they wanted their wedding day color palette to make a statement. And they knew the natural beauty of their venue, the historic Upper East in Kenosha, would be the ultimate spot to make such a statement. Über-cool details were plentiful, from the matte black stationery suite and signage to the magenta florals and touches of turquoise expertly woven throughout the design scheme. INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION ORGANIC ELEMENTS MEET WAREHOUSE-CHIC IN A LIGHT-HUED STYLED SHOOT
The “neutral wedding” tradition used to be a cookie-cutter idea, but contemporary brides, grooms and vendor teams have found ways to breathe creative life into this tried-and-true approach to décor. The venue’s exposed brick and pane-less windows provided the background for this playful yet refined event. A floating ceremony arch made up of cloud-like bouquets bursting forth with white blooms mirrored the tall and low arrangements found atop dining tables, the welcome sign and a delicious grazing table—a modern approach to appetizers. Rock signage and floating wood shelves featuring cascading greenery gave the affair a hip twist. The bride donned a Stella York gown before changing into her after-party slip dress. Meanwhile, the groom sported a champagne-toned suit that was as chic as it was complementary to the space. Taupe linens and sleek candles in opposing tones created a warm, sophisticated backdrop for the festivities, which included a Champagne tower and a three-tiered wedding cake with layered ribbon details. Created in collaboration with Naturalizer, her debut shoe collection, Pnina Tornai for Naturalizer, combines couture and comfort. “When I saw the quality of the shoes and felt how comfortable they are, I knew instantly that that was the feeling I wanted to share with my brides around the world,” says Tornai of her partnership with the iconic comfort-footwear company. The high-fashion shoe line features details such as voluptuous bows, crystal embellishments and delicate laces—with the sole of each shoe featuring a handwritten message from Tornai. The silk shoes are available in a variety of colors, from bridal white to black, champagne, silver, rose gold and even a bold pink. To prepare, think of situations where you would normally include a tip, such as a haircut or dinner out. So it stands to reason that these businesses also are on the list for a gratuity. Along with tipping your hair stylist and caterer, the pros suggest

as a symbol of contemporary sophistication on Lake Michigan’s sandy shores. Influenced by the breathtaking nature of Door County, Amanda Steinhauer of Amanda Steinhauer Photography created a radiant oasis with bright botanicals, pastel hues and a whisper of whimsy. As a love letter to northern Wisconsin, the escort display featured tables named after the charming cities of Door County. Floral arrangements by Branching Out & Co appeared to spring from the ground, creating a captivating garden-like ambience. The beautiful tablescape used iridescent plates, glassware and vases mimicking the reflectiveness of water. Place settings supported the fun theme with tri-colored place cards and thank-you notes adhered with a pink tassel. To add a bit of romance, lit candles offered a soft glow amid vibrant flora and coastal views. THE NEW WHITE AN ENCHANTING WEDDING PUTS A MODERN TWIST ON A TIMELESS COLOR DAYNA JAMES AND CHARLIE MCGINN’S luxe summer bash at Northern Haus in Sister Bay proves that you can showcase white in a fresh, creative way. Nestled in the heart of Door County, the modern barn space was a superb fit for the couple’s vision, boasting clean lines, ample natural light and sleek concrete flooring. Given the monochromatic palette, introducing a variety of textures into the design throughout the day was essential. With the help of Kirstie Warren Easley from Elevate Events, the couple’s contemporary yet romantic vision was realized. In quintessential Wisconsin fashion, guests were welcomed with Spotted Cow and Champagne. Dayna and Charlie shared “I do’s” in front of a lush ceremony arch embellished with silky roses and baby’s breath that matched the subtle botanical pattern of the bride’s gown. At Dayna’s side, bridesmaids donned a range of elegant, fashion-forward white gowns. Their union was a catalyst for celebration as guests gathered inside for cocktail hour, featuring “His” and “Hers” drinks—an Old Fashioned for Charlie and a Limoncello Spritz for Dayna—served with custom drink stirrers bearing an image of the couple’s pup. The reception was nothing short of magical, with candles casting a soft, inviting glow and an abundance of show-stopping botanical arrangements. Elaborate cherry blossom centerpieces graced the head table and added a further touch of opulence, while smaller blooms seamlessly blended with the décor and table settings. Staying true to the theme, the three-tiered cake was a sweet touch with its simple and stylish presentation. As a cinematic ending to the glamorous fête, the live band gathered everyone on the ever-so-chic black-and-white checkered dance f loor to celebrate with the new Mr. and Mrs. McGinn.

Husband and wife team Rob and Amy LaRocque have lovingly transformed their property into the wedding venue they dreamed of. “Two years ago, when we were looking for wedding venues ourselves, we quickly realized Lake Geneva needed a venue like ours,” says Amy LaRocque. A two-story horse barn built in the 1800s has been transformed into a breezy, bright indoor space for wedding ceremonies, receptions and other events, but a 77-foot by 63-foot white sailcloth tent is also included. Summer Snyder of Orange Door Weddings was inspired by fashion—notably the Dior spring show—for the design scheme, and Atmospheric Floral added color and allure with plentiful flower arrangements. The bride’s lightly ruched strapless gown, her loose waves and dewy makeup made for an ethereal vision. Completing her look was an unstructured bouquet in sherbet colors tied with a delicate satin ribbon and a matching shoulder corsage. Setting a sophisticated tone, the stationery suite featured textured deckle edges, sweeping script and a gold wax seal. The tablescape mixed individual bud vases, a rich centerpiece and a host of candles, while playful placemats echoed the oversized wall installation. A masterful four-tier cake embodied simplicity, elevated by intricate bows for decoration.

Renee Breanne of Renee Breanne Design + Co shared the inspiration behind this captivating day, saying, “An adoration for the timeless elegance of Audrey Hepburn served as the inspiring force behind this editorial shoot.” Channeling the grace and sophistication of the iconic star, Renee Breanne’s team tastefully arranged the long table setting to capture the essence of elegance. Delicate pinks in the florals, glasses and stationery pulled the entire scene together, accented by the greenery in the venue and the bold black chairs, all set against a backdrop of pristine white. Different textures in the table setting, from the smooth candlesticks and florals to the ridged glassware and detailing on the tablecloth, added subtle visual interest. The cake by Whisk Chick maintained that theme with neat white lines and a gentle pop of color in the exquisite florals at the top. INSPIRED BY THE SYMPHONY OF COLORS in a Door County sunset,
Rachel Pinkham of Pink Door Events produced a design that encapsulated the beauty of a northern Wisconsin sky at day’s end. Joyful yet refined, these lively shades melded perfectly to create a romantic scene at The Hoop House at Twelve Eleven. Bathed in the fleeting sunlight, the bride donned a series of captivating gowns sporting fanciful sleeves and graceful, cascading ruffles. Her hair in gentle waves and her lips a delicate rose, the bride’s quiet, romantic look was as soft as summer twilight. Details throughout the day also paid homage to the sunsets of Sister Bay, including a playful stationery suite in lavender and peach, and table settings in pale pink and gold. A flurry of florals in a stunning sweet pinks, fiery oranges and dreamy purples was gathered in bouquets adorning the reception tables. The blond and dusty rose ceremony installation had pastel notes of dusk descending, and even the splattered-paint, four-tiered cake adhered to the theme by suggesting the sun sinking into the horizon.

The George and Madcap Lounge in Milwaukee set the scene for Denver couple Kate Acker and Kevin Nelson’s return to Kate’s old stomping grounds in celebration of their union. They made the most of their time in this beautiful city, strolling with their wedding party through the Third Ward from The Journeyman Hotel to the historic George and Madcap Lounge. Embodying a chic and elevated garden party aesthetic, summery tones of light greens, blues and pinks complemented the grand arches and dazzling chandeliers of the ballroom. With Kate wearing a showstopping Monique Lhuillier gown, the couple was wed in an intimate ceremony against a backdrop of the stunning gallery wall and floor-to-ceiling windows before inviting their guests downstairs to a social lounge setting for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as they prepared for a candlelit reception. Delicate elegance permeated the day, from the graceful pinks and whites of the reception table florals to the matching pink floral outlines on the menus. Before they danced the night away with their guests, Kate and Kevin took one last private moment on the rooftop to take in a breathtaking sunset over the city.—Nicole Wu

A nautical touch added whimsy and a classic air to Maria Haning and Zachary Azmani’s special day. After exchanging vows, the newlyweds sailed across Lake Geneva and were greeted at Pier 290 by their guests who were ready to celebrate the newlyweds. Surrounded by family and friends, Maria and Zachary channeled their “coastal grandmother” wedding inspiration and boarded the majestic Lady of the Lake for the cocktail and dinner cruise. Music from The Parent Trap gave the wedding day a delightful Nancy Meyers rom-com vibe. Maria’s bridesmaids took a nontraditional route, all wearing white dresses that popped against the backdrop of vibrant greenery and the sparkling blue lake. Other festive touches included seating charts displayed in ornate frames and cherry pies from Sweet Pea’s Pies. For McKenna Sokol and Ryan Erickson, bold and bright were a feature of their special day. In a wedding design that was anything but typical, the personalities of the radiant bride and groom shone through. Old Sugar Distillery was the perfect setting for vibrant pops of color and provided a clean, modern backdrop for the couple’s immersive celebration. From the addition of their dog, Daisy, throughout the day to a designer’s dream come true of color-blocking florals, their union unfolded in the quirkiest yet most stylish of ways. McKenna’s vision of “standing in a field of Dr. Seuss flowers” was realized, especially during the ceremony where the couple stood surrounded by pink, orange and yellow bursts of colorful allium and bougainvillea. During the funky yet chic dinner reception, charming glass lamps brought warmth to long tables covered in more dazzling florals and unexpected linens designed with vivid geometrics. Later, Daisy’s Koozie display was transformed into a late-night snack wall featuring Taco Bell Doritos Locos and Soft Supreme tacos that proved to be a resounding hit as the party continued well into the evening. —Nicole Wu

“On this particular Christmas Eve—while I was very occupied looking through the tree—Ryan was quickly running to the coat closet to get the ring,” Kailey Charlton recounts. Her longtime love, Ryan Leedle, popped the question during a Christmas ornament scavenger hunt. In picturesque contrast to the day of their engagement, a balmy summer day set the scene for their wedding celebration. Accompanied by her nearest and dearest ladies, Kailey donned a lightly ruched wedding gown that hugged her silhouette, her hair coiffed into a cascade of barely there waves to complement her smokey eyes and dewy makeup. Meanwhile, Ryan put on a dashing suit jacket in white with black trim that coordinated with his slacks, vest and bow tie. Attendees gathered on the sprawling lawn of The Carriage House at Lac La Belle, finding seats facing the natural altar marked by verdant greenery and white blooms. Bridesmaids in assorted black gowns led by groomsmen in matching attire made their way down the petal-lined aisle, followed closely by the bride. Following the customary “I do’s,” guests enjoyed alfresco drinks and light bites during cocktail hour before heading inside to kick off the festivities. Assorted tables featured low candles and sweet, single-stem vases with small arrangements of light-hued flowers. “It was important to me to keep the overall colors and décor simple, timeless and neutral with a lot of whites, blacks, creams, pale pinks and golds while playing with organic textures and ambient lighting,” notes the bride. The evening saw speeches and sentimental dances before the dance floor became the go-to spot for the lively dance party. Kailey changed into a feathered mini dress to kick up her heels during the rest of the evening. John Sibal was immediately attracted to the new intern at the Texas manufacturing plant where they both interned in 2018. And writing in her journal after her first day, Natalie Bro noted that she “could marry a man like John.” A month later, he took a chance and asked her out to a country music concert. Even though it wasn’t her favorite kind of music, she said yes. Five years later, the couple said “yes” once again in an elegant ceremony at Natalie’s family church. The bride wore an off-the-shoulder dress that she and Miss Ruby customized by modifying the neckline, adding accent buttons down the back and—of course—adding pockets! Natalie’s breathtaking white florals included roses, gardenias and greenery, and the wedding party’s palette of dusty blue satin for the bridesmaids and classic black tie for the groomsmen perfectly complemented the blue, white and gold of the reception design. Personal touches abounded during the day, with Natalie using a detail from her mother’s wedding gown as an attachment to her veil and donning a fringed denim jacket that proudly displayed “Sibal” on the back. After a sit-down dinner with a host of toasts and jokes, dancing—and a little bit of karaoke—began. Looking back on the day, Natalie says the best part was “having all our people in one place. We are big quality-time people, and seeing everyone there to celebrate the incredible love we share was amazing.” —Nicole Wu

Blue skies, blue water, a stunning array of pastel posies and the joy of exchanging vows at a beloved home full of memories were some of the touching moments of Hannah Geldermann and Tucker Angier’s wedding day. The couple, who met as sophomores at Middlebury College in Vermont, shared vows they wrote themselves at her parents’ home, originally her grandparents’ lake house. Hannah spent her summers visiting her grandparents and extended family in Lake Geneva and even worked for Lake Geneva Cruise Lines for a summer. “It was incredibly special to get married at this house that means so much to both of us,” she says. Following the ceremony, everyone boarded the Grand Belle of Geneva for a cocktail cruise across the lake to the Lake Geneva Country Club. Towering glass columns held grand bouquets of f lowers in shades of pink, ivory and yellow, accented with curving branches and greenery at the head table. The guests’ tables were adorned with generous bouquets in a rainbow of colors. While dinner was served, Hannah and Tucker were whisked away by their photographer, Anna Urban, for sunset photos on the pier. “Having this moment of peace and quiet for us to appreciate our special day together in such a beautiful setting was an absolute highlight for both of us,” says Hannah. Their day concluded after an evening of dinner, dancing, heartfelt toasts, laughter and smiles. —Sherri Hildebrandt

Lyrical notes from a string quartet wafted through the air on a glorious spring afternoon—exquisite accompaniment for the marriage of Madelyn Kramer and Michael Santarelli. Elegant with a modern farmhouse touch, the wedding venue was the perfect locale for guests to enjoy the serene beauty of the property’s 30 acres of fields and forest. Madelyn and her bridesmaids spent a leisurely morning in the luxury suite in matching robes, sipping bubbly and getting excited as they prepared for the day’s main event. Before the official ceremony, the couple met for an exchange of their own personal vows. “During this moment, we were able to be alone and really experience our emotions,” says Madelyn. “Any pre-wedding anxiety dissolved, and we were able to be present with one another and reflect on what brought us there and that we would be moving forward in life together.” Madelyn joined Michael at the ceremony arch draped with white blossoms and greenery to say their “I do’s.” Afterward, guests applauded the couple as they paused during the recessional and Michael dramatically dipped his new wife for a heartfelt kiss—the first of many to follow! Under the soaring vaulted ceiling of the sparkling Gambrel Room, guests sat at reception tables graced with elevated white floral arrangements, smaller bouquets and candles in glass pillars and cylinders. After an evening of toasts, laughter and good wishes, dining and dancing drew to a close and the newlyweds were given a send-off amid a flurry of silver streamers flying through the air. —Sherri Hildebrandt

Liz Trautz was, to put it plainly, bored. Having just moved to Madison for graduate school, she had yet to make friends. “Not knowing anyone in the area, I made a Bumble profile,” explains Liz. “Tyce was my first match.” Two years later, Tyce Shirley proposed to his beloved girlfriend on her MBA graduation day. Once they began planning their big day, the sprawling grounds of The Edgewater Hotel in Madison called to them, speaking to their own romantic story. The elegant hotel’s location, view and culinary options made it a no-brainer for the couple. A balmy summer day played host to Liz and Tyce’s wedding, kickstarted by a breathtaking first look on the Edgewater’s pier. The bride wowed her groom—as well as her bridal party and onlookers—in a sleek sweetheart gown featuring a dramatic tulle mermaid skirt and a cascading train. Inside a billowing tent under an ample floral arch, Liz and Tyce—who sported a classic tuxedo in a deep midnight blue—said “I do.” Guests adjourned to the ballroom reception space to find tables covered with crisp, white linens, floating candles, goldrimmed charger plates and a variety of centerpieces featuring hand-massaged, reflexed white roses. Additionally, guests found the signature drink. “The ‘Dirty Shirley’ drink was a hit! Cute and delicious,” the bride notes. The newlyweds focused on statement elements for their décor: The lush arch drew the eye at the ceremony while the scrumptious, six-tier wedding cake anchored the sophisticated atmosphere of the reception. “We also kept our guests in mind throughout the entire planning process,” Liz explains. “We wanted everyone to have as much fun as possible, and we think we really did that.” —Megan Simpson Teeter 116 | WISCONSIN BRIDE wibride.com

In the heart of Milwaukee, a city known for its vibrant energy and timeless charm, Savannah Sparks and Dominic Emmi crafted a naturally refined wedding. Though their nuptials would be deemed “destination” (all of their guests traveled to attend), the bride and groom were no strangers to the locale. “We wanted to bring our friends and family to the city where we met, where we fell in love,” says Savannah. From the arrival of delicately green, letter-pressed invitations to the indulgent dessert table at the end of the event, each wedding detail told a story. Prior to the Roman Catholic ceremony, the streets of Milwaukee became their canvas as the bride and groom, accompanied by their entourage, ventured around the city to take photos in places that held layers of personal significance. Carrying a bouquet of dainty pink and crisp white blooms, Savannah wore a lightly ruched sweetheart gown with a mermaid skirt. Clad in a deep-gray suit and emerald tie, Dominic sported a boutonniere with blossoms that expertly coordinated with his bride's bouquet. The reception space exuded industrial-chic elegance, serving as an idyllic backdrop for an emerald-tinted celebration. A palette of spring greens stood out in detail upon detail, from bridesmaids’ dresses to ornate goblets and mirrored the sweetness of the season. Savannah and Dominic—who reveled in the intimate moments, including their private vow-reading before their ceremony— cherished “seeing everyone enjoying each other’s company. The food, drinks, and the overall atmosphere were so special.
