A NEW DAY Welcome to our first issue as Washington Wedding Day! This marks a huge moment for not only our brand, but the community as well. This new name reflects our belief that love is love and embraces the importance of individuality. What hasn’t changed is our dedication to sharing beautiful inspiration, from fashion and flowers to the love stories of everyone in the evergreen state of Washington. So much thought and time goes into each photo we select and every word we choose, and we hope this issue brings you as much joy as it did to us while we were creating it. Nature is a theme that runs throughout this issue, such as the geographically inspired stationery and bouquets (page 76). For those looking to perfect their wedding day style, check out our guide to bridal boutiques and groomswear (page 46) and the stunning fashion editorial (page 60). The real weddings featured were such a journey of love—and we have so many beautiful stories to share, starting with Seattle Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett (30) to the issue’s cover stars Tiffani and Ashli, elegantly captured by photographer Jenn Tai (108). INTO FOCUS Putting together this issue of Washington Wedding Day has felt very much like planning a real-life wedding. It’s a long-term project filled with millions of tiny, and mostly fun, decisions. Slowly, one by one, each decision causes the picture to come more and more into focus. For us, a major factor was you... So, spend time with this issue and don’t rush into anything; rather than feeling like you have a mile-long list of things to check off, focus on making the picture clearer. With you in mind, we sought inspiration from Seattle to Spokane. This issue is packed from cover to cover with ideas from across the state and features 18 real couples who did it their way. BEYOND BLOOMS “I want to encourage future clients to be unique in their style,” explains Sulee Khongkhangam, owner and lead planner of Heartfelt Sentiment. Inside the chic brick walls of WithinSodo, in the heart of Seattle, Khongkhangam curated the team that created the moment: a stunningly natural event draped in fresh verdure and rich in contemporary refinement. The day showcased a blend of natural elements, innovative designs and a twist on traditional wedding norms. The planner’s concept was to transcend conventional floral arrangements. “I went into organizing with the intention of shedding light on different ways to elevate a wedding with elements other than blooms. I’m talking about greenery, patterns and textures, all of which can also be more cost-effective.” Khongkhangam’s deep love for plants, as well as her creative collaboration with Meghan of Twisted Bramble, resulted in a sophisticated design. Woven, tasseled chargers complemented the warm-toned flatware and geometric chandeliers. Even the threetiered cake reflected the offbeat flora motif, with neutral-toned decorative leaves ascending each layer.

LOCKETT DOWN In front of sweeping views of Seattle’s skyline, in picturesque Kerry Park, Seahawks’ wide receiver Tyler Lockett orchestrated an engagement as awe-inspiring as his game plays. His and Lauren Jackson’s story began, as many modern romances do, with a heartfelt Instagram DM that wove its way through the digital ether and into Lauren’s heart. What followed was a dance of daily conversations and deepening connections. Fine art wedding planner Alyssa Ayala of PACIFIC ENGAGEMENTS (@ pacific_engagements) kicked off their engagement by helping Tyler create a stunning question-popping setting. “I loved how he immediately provided very specific details of things that he envisioned for the proposal, so I knew what needed to be prioritized,” says Alyssa. Illuminated by the glow of marquee lights that spelled out Tyler’s question, the park was the epitome of romance. Fragrant flowers and an artist ready to paint the scene heightened the atmosphere. Lauren walked into the lovingly prepared space, sated from dinner and unsuspecting. The gathered crowd was filled with the familiar faces of their out-oftown families, and Lauren caught on once she noticed her mother seated on a park bench. This was Tyler’s cue to get down on one knee. The moment was simple, beautiful and profound. Once engaged, the pair sent out a black-tie-worthy invitation suite to their nearest and dearest, and the celebration was set. “They were very receptive to ideas of how to personalize their wedding vision and always expressed their sincerest excitement and gratitude,” their planner notes. The wedding itself was a symphony of style and sentiment, a modern, glam affair draped in hues of white and gold. —Megan Simpson Teeter

I DO, ROUND TWO For their 12th anniversary, John and Talysa (@the.modelcitizens) renewed their vows fountain-side at THE HALL AT FAUNTLEROY (@hallatfauntleroy) in the presence of loved ones, the most important of those being their two young sons, Noah and Cameron, and the bride’s grandmother. The intimate ceremony was led by Cherise Klosner of ANOTHER ONE TIES THE KNOT (@ another_one_ties_the_knot). Desiree Jones of DSquared Hospitality Company, which runs The Hall at Fauntleroy, recalls, “We knew the day would be elegant and sweet, but we weren’t expecting how emotional of a moment it would be for the children to see their parents dressed up in wedding attire and verbalizing their commitments to each other.” Originally high school sweethearts, the couple exchanged personal vows and reflected on their 17 years together as they stood in the courtyard among a select few. Then, they moved into the Emerald Room to continue the celebration. Floral details permeated the room, from the whimsical garden signage to a hanging floral installation of carnations, a sweetheart table enveloped in baby’s breath and a youthful purse bouquet crafted by AE EVENTS & DESIGN (@aeeventdesign). Couples often find themselves at a loss about how to calculate the cost and which vendors should be tipped—and are dismayed to discover on the day of the wedding that their budget just increased. To prepare, think of situations where you would normally include a tip, such as a haircut or dinner out. So it stands to reason that these businesses also are on the list for a gratuity. Along with tipping your hair stylist and caterer, the pros suggest

tipping your planner, DJ and/or band, makeup artist, photographer, videographer, florist and bartenders—not to mention day-of staff. In general, wedding planners suggest aiming for a range of between 10% and 20% for tips. IT’S A LOVE STORY SEATTLE’S BEST TIE THE KNOT IN A WEDDING FOR THE BOOKS

Loren Callahan, award-winning wedding photographer Alante Photography and Carla Schier, the talented owner of Seattle’s Honey Crumb Cake Studio, met in 2012 at a wedding registry party. Sparks flew instantly, but because the timing wasn’t right, the two took separate paths while continuing to work alongside each other. In a serendipitous turn of events in 2021, after both had navigated the end of previous relationships, Loren and Carla reunited. Recognizing the urgency of their connection, they were engaged within seven months and wed five months later. Their wedding day was a symphony of laughter and love. The meaningful ceremony mirrored both the date and the time of the couple’s first reunion. In a playful nod to the occasion, a friend dressed as an inflatable diplodocus dinosaur greeted guests. Carefully chosen songs, a special walk for

the couple’s mothers and handwritten vows made the short ceremony profoundly significant. The romantic reception was a whimsical blend of vintage circus, Roaring Twenties speakeasy and French chateau. Inspired by the Dutch masters, the floral palette of rich crimson and burgundy, accented by dusty blue hues, brought the venue to life. Tablescapes adorned with compote bowls laden with grapes, mushrooms, stone fruit, variegated greenery and an array of florals created a visually captivating atmosphere. Further enhancing the celebration, an audio guest book shaped like ’80s-style neon pink lips allowed guests to leave priceless voice messages for the couple. Carla’s extraordinary cake artistry reflected the venue’s patina and the Dutch masters’ influence, featuring an “aged stone” finish and handmade sugar flowers, which tied seamlessly into the overall design.

Tiffany and Ashli Chen-Dong, initially colleagues, reunited as friends one fine day in San Francisco. During the pandemic, the two became inseparable, blending their families and fusing their lives together. Tiffany proposed to Ashli in her pajamas with their dog, Mochi, at their side. In a playful turnabout, Ashli surprised Tiffany at the spot of their first date, proposing with friends present, leading to Tiffany’s wholehearted acceptance. Ashli and Tiffany’s wedding at Chihuly Garden and Glass at Seattle Center was a celebration of boldness, sophistication and the unapologetic embrace of their queer identity. Inspired by their desire to normalize LGBTQ+ weddings, they designed a celebration that showcased their vibrant personalities and love. The couple intentionally selected vendors who were comfortable working with a nontraditional Asian American lesbian couple, ensuring their wedding vision came to life while integrating diverse styles. The venue, with its larger-than-life glass art and urbane ambiance, perfectly embodied their whimsical, artistic style. The floral theme, initially conceived with birds of paradise, transformed into a rainbow motif, representing the couple’s commitment to forging new queer traditions. The intentional coordination of bouquets for both brides, despite their differing attire, reflected their love for coordinating outfits and the uniqueness of their relationship. The wedding included free admission to the glass museum, a carefully crafted music playlist and a choreographed rumba to “Señorita.” Ashli and Tiffany’s celebration blended nostalgia with a forward-thinking, progressive outlook, encouraging others to begin new traditions while wholeheartedly accepting and celebrating their authentic selves. —Laura Cross

Tess Chapman and Cory Ford’s love affair began along intertwining paths shaped by shared connections over the years. A mutual attraction to each other’s charm sparked a connection that led to a lunch invitation, marking the beginning of their relationship. Their wedding at Inglewood Golf Club unfolded in a floral oasis, immersing the celebration in a refined palette of green, black, taupe and white. Inspired by the venue’s historical charm, the couple focused on blending luxury with trendsetting elements. Mirroring the abundance of blooms throughout the property, the ceremony included an aisle lined with baby’s breath and a breathtaking floral nest at the altar; Tess carried a bouquet of roses and orchids. The rich floral design continued to delight guests through the cocktail hour, with a lush installation that grew up the sides of the building. From a ground-up installation at the fireplace to hanging greenery, the florals reached their peak with a cloud of baby’s breath over the dance floor, accentuated by playful disco balls. Enhancing the almost monochromatic design, layers, textures and tones were incorporated into the plates, napkins, menus and place cards, imbuing the lavish atmosphere with depth. Tess and Cory’s wedding day unfolded effortlessly, and among their favorite moments was a magical first dance under the disco balls and baby’s breath cloud. Alexis White and Phillip Campbell’s sweet love story kicked off with a memorable first date at Fifty Licks ice cream shop in Portland. Their tale was sprinkled with a twist when the couple became engaged during Phil’s birthday barbecue at Oregon’s Stub Stewart State Park. Surrounded by loved ones and in a setting surrounded by mountains, he proposed to Alexis. The wedding day unfolded at Gorge Crest Vineyards with an afternoon ceremony set against the stunning backdrop of the Hood River. The nuptials beautifully captured Alexis and Phil’s love for each other as they exchanged handwritten vows and rings in front of a giant gold circle embellished with greenery and florals. In a heartfelt homage to Alexis’ African American heritage, the couple also incorporated the “jumping the broom” tradition to honor the rich culture and legacy of her ancestors. Harmonizing with the vineyard’s surroundings, a color scheme of forest green, sage green, gold, champagne and white set the tone for the celebration, with vibrant florals in pastel hues of blue, pink, white and orange giving the design a lively burst of color. Following the ceremony and despite the impending rain, the newlyweds joined their cocktail hour before making an epic grand entrance into their alfresco reception. Dinner and toasts led to a memorable first dance that was accompanied by a light drizzle. As droplets turned into a downpour, guests moved indoors for the remainder of the evening, which included a cake cutting and sweet treats from a mobile ice cream shop, in a tasty nod to the couple’s first date. —Laura Cross

This fun-loving couple’s adventurous spirits shone through in a gorgeous wedding that highlighted the beauty of the Pacific Northwest mountains. Guests rode the gondola up Crystal Mountain to celebrate the union of Isabelle Hillberg and Sam Bruns at the summit. From invitations that displayed a mountain scene to wooden skis for guests to sign, Isabelle and Sam’s wedding perfectly captured their love of the outdoors. The simplicity of décor allowed the breathtaking backdrop of the snowcapped mountain to take center stage, with pops of pink and purple florals accentuating the deep greens and thrilling blues of the mountaintop setting. The venue wasn’t the only carefully chosen aspect of the wedding. A Champagne shelf awaited the newlyweds’ guests, as well as cozy pashmina blankets to ward off the chill of mountain air. To accessorize Isabelle’s sleek and elegant bridal gown, she wore a true family heirloom: a veil that had been worn for many generations in her family. The party continued as Isabelle changed into a short, fun reception dress in which she danced the night away with Sam and all their loved ones surrounding them. —Nicole Wu

Marlys Larson and Caroline Keith tied the knot holding hands beneath an enchanting arbor at their family ranch in Cle Elum. The couple met eight years ago on a Sapphic dating app and instantly clicked. They lived together for seven years before they became engaged. “At that point, we felt like an old married couple, and our wedding just made it official and let us share our joy and love with our family and friends,” Caroline says. The brides took inspiration from the Olympic Peninsula’s lush greenery, pairing that foliage with delicate florals, bringing a rustic and romantic feel. Rather than veils, ethereal flowers were entwined in the brides’ hair, matching their floral-patterned dresses; this created a beautiful contrast, with Caroline donning black and Marlys in white. Due to their shared introversion, they kept the event intimate, inviting only their closest friends and family. The pair chose to dispense with a typical bridal party since their guest list was so short, and instead were preceded down the aisle by their parents. Marlys and Caroline walked down the aisle hand in hand, first entering from opposite sides and meeting in the middle, all the while beaming at each other. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests navigated to the reception tent, which was decorated with a mesmerizing display of wisteria and dreamy fairy lights cascading from the ceiling. Four years later, Michael reached out to Emily via LinkedIn, reigniting the spark just as he was preparing to interview in the Seattle area. Their first date coincided with Michael’s hunt for an apartment, marking the beginning of their love story. Seeking to share the beauty of the Pacific Northwest with their East Coast family, Emily and Michael selected JM Cellars in Woodinville for their intimate black-and-white wedding. The wedding invitation suite, which featured a hand-drawn map of the Puget Sound area and an illustration of the winery, set the tone for their clean and classic design with East Coast influences. The ceremony space radiated timeless elegance, adorned with florals that were an elevated interpretation of a classic white bouquet. Delicate bellflowers were entwined with hearty roses, Queen Anne’s lace and snapdragons, creating a whimsical arrangement. Guests moved from the ceremony into a lively cocktail hour, followed by a seated dinner reception. Long tables were dressed in crisp white runners, delicate ivory floral arrangements and black chargers. A sophisticated Champagne tower kicked off the celebration in style, with a memorable “pop” that soared over the roof, eliciting genuine surprise and delight on Michael’s and Emily’s faces. With a guest list limited to 45 of their closest friends and family, the couple sought the creation of a day that diverged from the typical wedding timeline. A wedding photographer herself, Katie prioritized capturing precious moments during the most enchanting light of the day. The wedding began with a first look and portraits at a nearby Airbnb while guests gathered outside for a cocktail hour. In another unconventional choice, guests were then welcomed into the reception for dinner, where Katie and Eli greeted them. Inspired by Eli’s rural upbringing, the wedding design combined rustic elements and earthy tones with Katie’s love for elevated details, including calligraphed stationery, coupe cocktail glasses and enchanting string lights. Following dinner, Katie changed into a second look as guests were invited outside for the ceremony. The space featured wooden pews for seating and a minimalist ceremony arch accented with warmly colored florals. The backdrop, initially displayed in the reception, made a seamless transition to the ceremony to create a focal point for the exchange of vows amid the vast countryside. After the nuptials, guests enjoyed the celebration with dessert, toasts and dancing with a playful donning of white cowboy hats, which led to a lively dance. Two days after the wedding, Katie and Eli enjoyed a private portrait session. The couple, both transplants who have grown to love the Emerald City, took a stroll in Pioneer Square before the ceremony in recognition of their journey together. The wedding took place downtown in the contemporary yet rustic Westland Distillery. Surrounded by wooden barrels in a beautiful original wood-beamed cellar, the ceremony featured rustic florals that lined the aisle, while string lights accented with greenery hung overhead. Following their heartfelt nuptials, the newlyweds made a celebratory stop at Seapine Brewing Company for a beer before rejoining their guests for a cocktail hour featuring a whiskey tasting. The barrel room at Westland Distillery was seamlessly flipped for dinner, and guests took their seats for dinner at a long king’s table set for 50. A bespoke family-style dinner featured delicacies such as black cod and Beecher’s mac and cheese. The evening exuded the ambiance of a dinner party, with guests enjoying a tower of sparkling rosé, taking Polaroid photos and signing wine bottles for the couple to enjoy on future anniversaries. Chrissy changed into a second look for the reception, donning white trousers and a bejeweled crop top. Selecting Suncadia as their wedding venue carried profound significance, embodying the place where their love blossomed in challenging times. The mountainside wedding unfolded as a vibrant celebration that seamlessly blended their cultural backgrounds. The design was a thoughtful reflection of Soumya’s preferences, incorporating coral and gold accents that created a stunning contrast against the lush Pacific Northwest greenery. The palette of pink, orange and gold imbued every facet of the event with warmth and elegance. The floral arrangements played a pivotal role, with their various shades of pink and orange roses that were complemented by white roses and greenery. A standout moment was the lively baraat procession, with Chris making a grand entrance in a horse-drawn carriage, surrounded by dancing guests and spirited music. The ceremony was a harmony of Indian and Western traditions, with Chris cherishing moments such as his exchange of vows with Soumya in the serene mountain setting as well as the dance performance of their wedding party. For Soumya, the significance of the day sank in during the first look, when she found reassurance in seeing Chris and any pre-wedding jitters were instantly dispelled. Stephanie and Cody’s wedding ceremony took place against the grand backdrop of the Seattle Asian Art Museum. The alfresco ceremony unfolded at the front entrance of the historic museum, which features a distinctive stone facade and stunning Art Deco windows. The wedding design was gorgeous, with vibrant florals and hanging chandeliers lining the aisle. Staying true to her unique style, Stephanie held an ombré bouquet that was thoughtfully arranged in pastel hues transitioning from right to left. The creative touch extended to a breathtaking ombre floral ceremony arch, which set a magical scene for the couple’s exchange of vows. Held in the museum’s Fuller Garden Court, the skylit reception featured bold blooms, chinoiserie dinnerware and gold flatware in harmony with the cultural and artistic theme of the venue. Chandeliers were seamlessly repurposed from the outdoor ceremony to the indoor reception, never losing the enchantment of the celebration. The focal point for the reception was a stunning two-layered cube-shaped cake with a painted indigo floral design and intricate handmade sugar work, which mirrored the wedding’s cultural fusion. In a whirlwind of wedding planning, Kiera and Charles, a couple with a penchant for the extraordinary, set out to design a wow-worthy event. Their theme? A fusion of enchantment and elegance, woven into Arbor Crest’s charmed setting. The wedding tale began with the invitations: Guests were sent a white box containing a chic acrylic invitation nestled in fresh reindeer moss. On the wedding day, guests were greeted by an aisle of lush floral arrangements and a sea of white rose petals leading to a custom arbor that created a magical frame for the couple’s vows. The enchantment didn’t stop there. After the vows were exchanged, the courtyard was turned into a piece of culinary art with the serving of hors d’oeuvres. The pièce de résistance was the vineyard tent for dinner. Vines entwined along the tent, chandeliers cast a warm glow, and more than 100 taper candles flickered. The moss-filled acrylic table numbers echoed their invites, and the five-tiered hexagon cake was met with appreciative silence when cut and served. When lovebirds Joey and Phillip came to the decision to make the big move from Texas to the bride’s home state of Washington, they solidified their intentions to spend the rest of their lives with one another. The inspiration behind their wedding was clear from the start: a lush, garden-themed event blending the sophistication of fine dining with the natural brilliance of the outdoors. As the sun radiated light through the late-summer sky, Joey donned a sleek gown rich in modern details, including side cutouts, to complement her “Old Hollywood” hairstyle. The bride traversed the alfresco petal- and plantdecorated aisle to the altar platform and her beloved, who awaited her, sporting a sophisticatedly moody, deep plum tuxedo. The pair said “I do” amid a sea of greens and whites in the luxurious garden atmosphere they’d imagined. Following the ceremony, the multilevel venue was alive with guests, who were sampling scrumptious cheeses and meats from an ample charcuterie board and mingling with friends, old and new. The illumination from fairy lights and tea candles danced in the reception tent, creating a warm atmosphere. Business school classmates Sina Samiee and Heidi Hankins sought to combine their backgrounds in a balanced way to create an unforgettable day. The groom’s Persian roots and the bride’s Western background merged to create a wedding teeming with traditions. The floor of the ceremony area, a floral heaven, was strewn with rose petals, and a stunning sofreh aghd, an intricate Persian wedding spread symbolizing prosperity, health and sweetness, was a focal point. Heidi, glowing in her fitted gown, walked down the aisle with her father to the tender strains of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” The ritual culminated in the sweet moment when the couple shared honey, a gesture symbolizing their blissful life ahead. After the “I do’s,” the newlyweds relished a private boat ride, a moment of serenity within the whirlwind. The reception unfolded with personalized details and florals in soft ivory, pink and white. As the night drew to a close, Sina’s and Heidi’s hearts were full, surrounded by the warmth of family and friends.
