‘LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND TO SATURN’

It’s hardly a surprise that here at Seattle Bride , we are in love with love. Every day, I open my inbox to a flood of emails recounting the happiest of days. Not a bad job, right? I do count myself as one of the lucky ones who truly loves their job. (See? We’re back to love again!) So, when it comes to creating the magazine, I’m often overwhelmed by the urge to share every story, every image and every moment of the weddings submitted. This issue is filled with inspiration, from beautiful real weddings (page 90) to discovering new venues (page 34) and finding the perfect details (pages 22 and 28).

One of the highlights of creating this issue was collaborating with some of the loveliest vendors the city has to offer. I had the good fortune to work with wonderful, creative souls on our editorial features this issue, including the creative team at Your Perfect Bridesmaid, who worked alongside me to design our catering feature and coordinate the three catering companies that delivered mouthwatering menus. Beloved Jenn Tai Photography captured the luscious cuisine (page 54). And then we made an escape to the coastal town of Seabrook—an idyllic setting that begs for a destination wedding—where we created a gorgeous flower-filled feature with From the Ground Up Floral and Alante Photography (page 46). There is so much more packed into these pages, and I hope each and every reader will find something to love.

Jenn Tai and Ravishing Radishes hard at work.

Alante Photography finding the perfect light.

Meet our fabulous new Art Director, Jessi Pallan, who is making every page pretty with her artistic touch.

(On our covers) The Spring/Summer 2023 issue of Seattle Bride has two stunning covers. Inside each you’ll find the information you need to plan the wedding of your dreams.

The Little Things

Anyone in love can attest to the cliché “It’s the little things that count.” Consider the small gesture of pouring your partner a cup of coffee every morning, taking the dog for a walk, or your love presenting you with a shiny ring. And for us, it’s no different. Our little things are working with our partners to showcase what the wedding industry does best: the work they are proud of and the love stories of each big day. Being a part of this team, hustling behind the scenes and highlighting this community is what fills my glass.

When it comes to your pretty little things, everything from the engagement bling to boutonnieres is on your must-have list. And we know, because for a combined 22 years, Lara and I have swooned, snapped and printed photos of every eye-catching detail we could find. Bear in mind that every newlywed has their preferred splurge; for some, it’s a craft cocktail; for others, it’s the escort cards or maybe a jaw-dropping arch. But the one thing all those splurges have in common? The priceless memories they help to create.

Our floral shoot at The Belfry at Seabrook is filled with unique details, some of which are literally on our model, thanks to Ben Bridge Jeweler and From the Ground Up Floral—such as unusual rings and even a floral tattoo in place of a bouquet—all to inspire your own tie-the-knot vision.

The design team at Your Perfect Bridesmaid, along with catering teams from Shooby Doo, Lovely Night and Ravishing Radish, wowed us by putting local ingredients first and pairing them with beautiful place cards, floating florals and luxury rentals.

We’ve got invitation suites as individual as you are, shoes to finish your look, plus venues to explore. Exhausted? Do yourself a favor and flip to page 40 for ways to get some R&R after your big day.

Plan away and be sure to share with us as you do @seattlebridemag.

Big hugs and congratulations on your engagement!

INSPIRATION FOR THE NEARLY WED

Every shoot draws its inspiration from a different source, and for Carmen Winquist of Noctua Florals, it was her love affair with fritillaria that served as her muse for this editorial at Christianson’s Nursery in Mount Vernon. Continued on next page.

SPRING/SUMMER 2023 SEATTLEBRIDEMAG.COM | 19

IN THE MOOD

“Fritillaria are a family of spring flowering bulbs that range from the delicate and graceful meleagris [and the] movement-rich uva-vulpis to the dramatic and bold persica varieties,” explains Winquist. The venue’s established garden, greenhouses and numerous outbuildings offered bountiful choices for seeking natural light and earthy beauty for this design to take place, but it was the nursery’s new space, The Vinery, with its reclaimed wood and interesting textures, that ultimately served as the setting. The simple yet sophisticated ceremony area was adorned with organic arrangements, an asymmetrically decorated arch and modest seating. A moody palette of soft yellow, mauve, lilac, burgundy and deep purple was carried through to the intimate reception table, which featured striking black place settings, matte gold accents and blush linens. Other beautiful details included the escort-card display floating in greenery, an impeccable stationery suite and a delicate two-tier cake with a floral finish.

Lavender HAZE

Shades of purple are having their moment, especially in soft pastel hues. Wedding planner Caroline Kim of Celebrate with Caroline and florist Seohee Choi of Studio Batté found the ideal inspiration for bringing this palette to life at Woodinville Lavender in Redmond. “The lush lavender fields were the perfect backdrop for our romantic yet modern setting,” says Kim. To highlight the delicate hue, Choi chose white blooms as the design’s foundation and brought in shades of purple: lavender, mauve, mulberry and a touch of light blue. Both the delicate bridal bouquet and centerpiece feature seasonal flowers in various textures, such as white astilbe and Queen Anne’s lace. Kim let the florals shine and opted for simple yet elegant place settings with touches of gold. —Lara

FLORAL FOCUS

“It was an act of self-healing and love,” says Brenna Robinson of designing the florals for her Orcas Island elopement with her husband, Nicholas. “Those flowers for that man on that day were my expression of love in its purest form.” After making a career of arranging blooms for other couples on their big days, Brenna used her talents to create a poignant vignette for her own “I dos.” Joyful warm colors were reminiscent of a sunset and shone in the lush arbor—after all, it was sunset on a warm August night when Nicholas fell in love with Brenna. “Every detail was intentional,” Brenna says. Nicholas’ favorite blooms—orchids and pink O’Hara garden roses—intermingled with Brenna’s favorites—David Austin Juliet roses and dahlias—in seamless harmony. “It felt like it took a lifetime to get to that place, being able to craft florals for myself,” says Brenna. “But I would do it again a thousand times over if it meant I’d get to be where I am now.” —Sara

WILD AT HEART

This lovely textural bouquet from WHITE BARN HOME & GARDEN (@whitebarndecorco) serves as the perfect complement to Rachel Rose’s ethereal “Cloud” bridal gown from the newly opened EVERGREEN BRIDAL STUDIO (@evergreenbridalstudio) in Tacoma. The delicate lace embroidery on the sheer bodice and the cinched waist create a beautiful blend of classic and daring. The bouquet is a dream with wax flowers, Earl Grey roses and subtle touches of lavender, capturing a romantic wildflower aesthetic.

Saluti, BEVIAMO!

Taking inspiration from the most important man in her life and a tap truck she found on Instagram, Emily Foster opened a mobile bar, BEVIAMO (@beviamotaptruck). While researching the Italian truck, a 1978 Piaggio Ape, she felt an immediate connection to her Italian heritage and her beloved grandfather Hank. “He was a true Italian gentleman who enjoyed a good drink, time with family and friends, and serving others,” says Foster. Thus, it was only natural that she decided to name her business Beviamo, which in Italian means “Let’s drink.” And of course, she christened the truck “Hank.”

Since then, Hank has taken on a life of his own. He has the capacity to pour four kegged beverages at once, whether beer, mixed drinks or soda. And Foster’s grandfather is with her every day in the form of a heart sewn into the cab seating; the material for the heart was hand-cut from Hank’s favorite overalls by Foster’s mother. Beviamo is more than just a business for the single mom, it’s also a way of celebrating her grandfather. Says Foster, “Serving others is what fills my cup, so even if it’s just drinks, it’s my jam!” —Teya

A PLANT-LOVING COUPLE INCORPORATES TOUCHES OF GREEN INTO THEIR BIG DAY

30 | SEATTLEBRIDEMAG.COM SPRING/SUMMER 2023
PORTFOLIO: DETAILS | By Chelsea Gibson

Green is trending. Think beyond filler greenery used in store-bought arrangements or eucalyptus—we’re talking green stationery elements, a hunter green suit and an all-green accent wall. For this Seattle couple, wedding inspiration came right from their Emerald City abode. Taylor Rychener of Bixby + Pine notes, “As we talked more about the tablescape and the flowers, it quickly became apparent that these two were house plant lovers! We thought, ‘what better way to showcase these two as a couple than with tablescape details that felt like they came directly out of their Seattle home?’” They made a list of some of their favorite house plants, which were picked up locally and repotted in white and cement pots and featured as the center of their décor. The arrangements felt homey, fresh and inspired all at once—and could be enjoyed long after the wedding day.

SHOWER TIME

Leave it to a best friend to throw the perfect bridal shower. When it came time for Katie Larson to throw the party of a lifetime for bride Jessi Bird, she had two things in mind: Asian cuisine and high tea. While these may not immediately strike as congruent, Katie was able to pull off a charming and fun lakeside affair with the help of Elite Events. Jessi is a sommelier, so food and drink were top of mind. Bradley Dickinson, who is the head chef at the renowned Pearl restaurant in Bellevue, took charge to create a unique Asian-fusion high tea brunch menu. Standout dishes included Bahn Mi sliders, curried chicken salad tea sandwiches, fresh berry and lychee tarts, and ube macarons.

Specialty cocktails featured edible flower garnishes and were served from vintage teacups. The “Beijing Sling” swirled together plum sake, vodka, vanilla, orange juice and plum bitters. Other additions to the menu included a lychee ginger fizz made with Prosecco and vodka as well as a green tea punch that boasted rum, cucumber and mint. And in case that wasn’t enough, there was also a mimosa bar and Champagne passion fruit popsicles.

For the décor, the team at Elite Events wanted a fresh and modern aesthetic. Bright hues of pink, orange and yellow with pops of white accented the bright blue lake that sparkled close behind. Colorful paper parasols hung upside down over the space to add a touch of whimsy, while vintage tea pots served as vases for bright yellow and pink blooms. Since Jessi loves a good wine and paint night, guests were invited to tap into the right side of their brains to create portraits of the bride’s golden retrievers or a rendering of a bridal bouquet.

By the end of the celebration—and thanks to the 90-degree weather—Jessi, Katie and their friends and family found themselves taking a dip in the lake to cool off—and chill out.

TAKE YOUR CELEBRATION BEYOND THE CONCRETE JUNGLE BY CHOOSING ONE OF THESE VENUES OUTSIDE SEATTLE’S CITY LIMITS

SNOHOMISH

Looking for a little more breathing room?

Snohomish, just about 40 minutes north of the Emerald City, has it all: historic 19th-century buildings, cute chapels and barns with sweeping fields surrounding them. Representing the wedding industry in town is the Snohomish Wedding Guild (SWG), which gives nearly weds a comprehensive understanding of local vendors and venues. “The Snohomish Wedding Guild was born out of the desire to spotlight our diverse and award-winning wedding venues, and to offer an opportunity to meet some of the best professionals in the business so you can plan the event of your dreams with ease and confidence,” says Sharon St. Marie, president of SWG.

If wine country and astounding views are a must for your “I dos,” then say yes to Mongata Estate Winery, just a hop, skip and jump over the Washington border in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Mongata’s 16-acre vineyard offers endless views of both the valley and the Blue Mountains, as well as the Walla Walla River, which winds through the property. The winery’s repurposed 102-year-old barn is a wedding favorite, thanks to its chic bohemian-meets-vineyard interior. Among its winning features are views of the vineyard, reclaimed wood, and a crescent-shaped granite tasting

Tie the knot on the barn’s patio and continue the party there; the patio features two pergolas, room for dancing and power for the DJ. Or take the celebration inside for a cocktail hour or dinner—long farm tables are a great option for the space. And the wine is taken care of, with Mongata delivering highly rated vintages, especially its estate syrah and rosé.

ISLANDWOOD

If ever there were a real-life enchanted forest, IslandWood would be it. The 250-acre property is located on Bainbridge Island, and though it’s primarily an environmental education nonprofit organization, it’s also known for being a uniquely Pacific Northwest wedding venue. The team at the venue has put together a weddingweekend package that allows couples to turn their celebration into a mini destination event. Before or after the main celebration, the team at IslandWood can arrange a variety of activities for guests to participate in, including guided hikes, canopy tower climbing and a garden tour. A dedicated planner on the property will keep things running smoothly—helping to choose among the property’s indoor and outdoor spaces as well as assisting in the creation of the perfect sustainably sourced menus for the weekend, which are tailored to each couple’s specific needs and preferences.

WILLOWS LODGE

There’s a piece of wine country just 25 miles outside of Seattle at Willows Lodge. With 5 acres in the heart of Woodinville Wine Country, this property is surrounded by the area’s stunning natural landscape—ideal for couples who want a nature-focused affair. Located in Redmond, Parties on the Terrace is an intimate venue designed for weddings with no more than 100 guests. Much as its name suggests, the property is all about terraces—four to be exact. All of them feature lush native greenery, garden benches, Adirondack chairs and bench swings. Parties on the Terrace can also accommodate indoor events in its 2,400-square-foot “Banchetto” (banquet hall), which features vaulted wood-beam ceilings, majestic mirrors and classic wainscoting. In addition, couples can take advantage of the venue’s prep suite, which has plenty of natural light to ensure they look perfect before heading down the aisle.

WE’VE GATHERED SEVEN DESTINATIONS THAT ARE CLOSE TO NATURE AND FILLED WITH ROMANCE, FROM FAR FLUNG BEACH DESTINATIONS TO DESERT GETAWAYS

COSTA RICA

Origins by Mantis (originslodge.com) is a dr eam destination for couples who desire serenity, nature and adventure without sacrificing five-star luxury. The boutique lodge is nestled in Costa Rica’s northern rain forest on 111 acres of jungle overlooking the lush Upala Valley. The verdant grounds feature the intimate Laka-Tii Spa; an open-air yoga pavilion; six private luxury lodges featuring fire-heated plunge pools, handcrafted canopy beds and open-air bathrooms; as well as a stunning three-bedroom tree house, Villa Vertigo.

Foodies will delight in the fare at El Salto, located in the residential-style main lodge, which is also home to a peaceful infinity pool and 180-degree views of the valley and Lake Nicaragua. Michelin-starred chef Jean-Luc L’Hourre curates the menu daily, bringing his haute French take on laid-back Latin cuisine while using ingredients sourced from the estate’s extensive organic garden. Adventure seekers and nature lovers can partake in a wide range of experiences, such as a rain forest hike to the Oro Waterfall (keep your eyes open for sloths), horseback riding, farm tours, medicinal plant tours, lagoon fishing, birdwatching, nocturnal walks— all within the vast property.

Conservation and sustainability are the anchors of Origins. Consequently, no chemical pesticides are used (pack mosquito repellent!), the resort is nearly free of plastic, and the kitchen composts its food waste—and these are just a few of its green practices. The tranquil vibe of

Mother Nature lends itself beautifully to the lodge’s wellness practices. You can make your honeymoon even more memorable by designing a custom retreat that includes luxurious spa treatments and healing experiences, such as guided yoga and meditation practice, sound baths and breathwork sessions. There are also off-site experiences to consider, such as a visit to a butterfly sanctuary or rafting in nearby Tenorio Volcano National Park. Intimate weddings are an option at Origins as well, with ceremonies taking place in the main lodge or the yoga shambala, and receptions featuring a one-of-a-kind dinner created by chef L’Hourre.

CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO

If you’re craving that international vibe, but want to keep the flight short and sweet, there’s no better place than Cabo San Lucas. Rated the No. 1 all-inclusive resort in Mexico by Tripadvisor’s 2022 Travelers’ Choice Awards, the Grand Velas Los Cabos (@grandvelascabos) is the ideal oasis for

The AAA Five Diamond resort reimagines the all-inclusive experience, providing guests with amazing restaurants (one with a two-Michelin-star chef at the helm), a luxurious 35,000-square-foot spa and first-class accommodations, such as the Grand Class Suite, with its own private plunge pool. For honeymooners, there is no shortage of activities to indulge in—from couples massages and love rituals to the Wine Lovers’ Experience and an option to charter the property’s very own 55-foot Bella yacht to cruise the azure waters of the Pacific Ocean.

SEABROOK, WASHINGTON

Winter, spring, summer or fall, the idyllic town of Seabrook, located on the Washington coast, delivers romance and nature in a smalltown setting. A Pacific Northwest rendition of Gilmore Girls ’ Stars Hollow or the renowned Seaside, Florida, Seabrook was founded by Casey Roloff, who developed the town with a focus on new urban design and an intention to create connectivity and community.

The town offers an escape to tranquility and never-ending views of the Pacific Ocean from its perch atop a bluff. Rent one of the many cozy cottages, which are beautifully appointed and feel like you’ve moved into a home away from home. Plus, all the homes feature porches for watching the sunset and the neighbors pass by. Best of all, the community is quite walkable, whether out to dinner, the spa, shopping or, of course, the main attraction, the beach. Summer brings town events such as wine tastings, a concert series, Founders Day and more. And yes, weddings are also a dream come true at The Belfry at Seabrook (@belfryatseabrook), a beautiful blank slate awaiting your personal touch.

MINIMALIST STYLE IS STEALING THE SHOW, FROM DAINTY FLORALS TO SLEEK AND CHIC BRIDAL GOWNS

Design and Florals by From The Ground Up Photography by Alante Photography

Text by Lara M. Burnap Venue by The Belfry At Seabrook “Liquid Tie” silk charmeuse crisscross spaghetti-strap bias gown with tie back, $5,500, from Luly Yang. Pearl halo earrings, $499; amethyst halo necklace, $699; diamond bangle bracelet, $2,999; and yellow gold bangle bracelet, $699, all from Ben Bridge Jeweler.

The Belfry at Seabrook is located at the center of the picturesque town of Seabrook, which is nestled on Washington’s Pacific coast. The quaint venue offers the perfect backdrop for showcasing the beauty of the minimalist trend: dainty bouquets, light and airy centerpieces, muted colors and delicate bridal gowns. “I like giving space to let each flower shine,” says Gina Thresher of From the Ground Up Floral. “And minimal design is the definition of letting the flower shine—you are seeing what makes that little flower great and why it’s beautiful.” Little details make a big impact, such as adding florals to a place setting or adorning the wedding cake with them.

SPRING/SUMMER 2023 SEATTLEBRIDEMAG.COM | 47

Blooms in shades of white with a hint of blue channel the seaside, while brushed-gold containers in various sizes add dimension. “As a color palette tip: Incorporate shades, tints and tones within your favorite colors to make it blend seamlessly,” says Thresher.

SOFT and MUTED palettes have been popular for a while. I enjoy them because they blend MAGICALLY . You can easily dance between COLORS and blend them with muddy browns or greys to SOFTEN transitions.

Opposite page: “Curve Appeal” asymmetrical curve-neckline fit and flare gown, $8,200, from Luly Yang; Diamond station necklace, $5,499; Diamond ring, $3,799; Bella Ponte diamond bands, $1,199 and $1,599; all from Ben Bridge Jeweler.

“The factors to know if a dainty bouquet is right for you will come down to sentiment, aesthetic (is your style more minimal?), and practicality (if you don’t want to carry a larger bouquet),” says Thresher. “And yes, it will be a ton lighter!”

If you want to go minimal, a floral bracelet is an unexpected and fashion-forward accessory.

SPRING/SUMMER 2023 SEATTLEBRIDEMAG.COM | 51
BOUQUETS have been large and in charge for several years. I love big bouquets, but the sentiment of smaller, delicate, DAINTY FLORAL bouquets is what I have been hearing more and more.
Gina Thresher, From the Ground Up Floral

Wearable florals such as this garden-inspired wrap (above right) and the floral “tattoo” on the opposite page are modern, trending options.

Don’t overlook small garden flowers in your design, as they can bring a graceful touch. Says Thresher, “Sometimes a little pansy can often carry more sentimental value than a big ol’ focal flower— calling you out, peony!”

BEAUTIFUL BOUNTY

SEASONAL INGREDIENTS FROM WASHINGTON INSPIRE A GOURMET MENU AND RECEPTION DESIGN

Bouquet, bridal gown, bridesmaids—all involve important decisions. But in culinary cities such as Seattle, the main ingredient that every couple focuses on is the menu. Uniting the event design with dinner is a clever way to pay homage to a beloved flavor, dish or cuisine. “Food has the ability to bring people together—it’s communal!” says Kim Morrill of Your Perfect Bridesmaid. “Artfully crafted food, like the menus crafted by the amazing caterers we worked with, really creates an experience for guests. It sparks conversation and leaves a vivid memory.” And today’s reception menus are equivalent to fine dining experiences—from grazing stations to elaborate courses.

A monochromatic backdrop is ideal for this seafood-inspired spread, and subtle seaside accents are incorporated into the tabletop as an homage to the Pacific. “We were inspired by the textures found in a coastal environment: fishing nets, boat ropes, the shimmer, shine and texture of all the seashells, buoys and sailor stripes,” says Morrill.

The berries’ deep hues are given a sleek and sexy twist with a gothic touch of black and silver. “We were inspired by the rich and deep colors of blackberries, plums and ripe raspberries,” says Morrill. “And we complemented those colors with gothic but modern elements: black candelabras, sleek black chairs, matte black stoneware and crystal accents. Our favorite little details were the berry vines.”

REGAL ROMANCE

NO PASSPORT NEEDED, THIS DREAMY OLD WORD-INSPIRED DESIGN DELIVERS PARISIAN ELEGANCE

Design by Créé and Co Coordination by Dolce Vita Events Photography by Betty Globa Photography Text by Chelsea Gibson

Nestled in The Highlands community of Shoreline, the historic Chateau Fayloli serves as a breathtaking setting for a spectacular spring soirée—one reminiscent of the romance-filled Old World. The European-inspired, 15,000-square-foot mansion houses various muted textile installations by William Kilburn, which, along with the chateau’s French-themed interior, were the main source of inspiration for this grandiose editorial. With organic garden florals, natural light and elegant fashion, it was a dreamy scene from start to finish.

KIMBERLY & DANIEL

Married and celebrated: ROSEHILL COMMUNITY CENTER, MUKILTEO

Date: MARCH 17, 2022

The Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo presented a bright environment with a stunning water view for Kimberly and Daniel Nguyen’s nuptials. Custom stationery for their day was designed in white and gold. Their wedding décor centered on lush florals and acrylic details, with romantic crystal chandeliers accentuating the reception design. Florals brought textural interest and bright colors to the scene. Guests were invited to participate in an audio guest book; this memorable take on the tradition allowed guests to infuse their own personalities into their messages to Kimberly and Daniel. In a show of appreciation for the couple’s individual qualities, the guest seating chart played on the bride’s and groom’s work in the medical field; and jars of candy resembling medicine jars were displayed, each bearing the phrase “Love is the best medicine.” For the reception, Kimberly and Daniel also had Sunset Boba deliver a boba tea bar for their guests.

CARA & CAMERON

Married and celebrated: ROCHE HARBOR RESORT, SAN JUAN ISLAND

Date: AUGUST 5, 2022

Cara Kusilek and Cameron MacLean tied the knot in a charmingly elegant celebration at Roche Harbor Resort on San Juan Island. The groom’s family has a cabin just across the water on Henry Island, and he grew up visiting the San Juan Islands frequently as a child. Once the couple started dating, Cara began joining Cameron for trips up to the archipelago, and now her family also vacations in the stunning spot. Thus, it was a no-brainer to choose Roche Harbor Resort to host their celebration. “We wanted to keep our wedding décor simple, elegant, warm and natural,” says Cara. “We wanted to enhance the beauty of Roche Harbor rather than take away from it, so we focused on a very natural vibe.” The bride wore a V-neck gown that radiated refined elegance, and her bridesmaids wore classic sage green silk slip dresses that tied in seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The floral design similarly echoed the natural landscape, with refined white buds complemented by soft greenery. Roche Harbor is home to Our Lady of Good Voyage Chapel, which has served the island for more than a century. Cara and Cameron exchanged handwritten vows before their family in the historic chapel as the groom’s Aunt Heather officiated and their dog, Vince, looked on. A larger ceremony took place in the property’s Sunken Garden, but it was important to the couple that they could share an intimate moment with those closest to them. As a special touch, the ceremony program included photos of the couple’s parents and grandparents on their wedding days. Cocktail hour featured his-and-her drinks in the courtyard—a classic margarita for Cameron and a sparkling vodka lemonade for Cara. Bride Cara says, “I don’t think there was a single person not on the dance floor! We had such a special day and weekend, and it absolutely showcased the perfect Washington summer weather that we wait all year for!”

CHRISTINE & ALEX

Married and celebrated: THE EDGEWATER HOTEL

Date: DECEMBER 3, 2021

Christine Casebolt and Alex Stark were married in front of the spectacular views of Elliott Bay afforded by The Edgewater Hotel. This winter wedding was warm and inviting, yet refined, with a color scheme that centered on green and blue jewel tones, such as the bridal party’s assortment of emerald dresses. Satiny cloth napkins in sapphire were placed at the gold table settings. Other details included gold accents, candlelit décor, and an array of doughnuts and macarons. The florals by Flora D’ Amore were free-flowing and bohemian-inspired, with lush greenery and white blooms accented with ivory pampas grass, red roses and rustic camel. Christine wore an A-line Lillian West gown with a plunging neckline, accessorized with a shimmering cathedral veil from Bel Aire Bridal. Alex was decked out in a crisp three-piece suit from Suitsupply. The hotel provided a woodsy, cozy environment for a celebration of their love.

STEPHANIE & TYLER

Married and celebrated: JM CELLARS

Date: JUNE 30, 2022

Stephanie Brash and Tyler Moreno wed in a modern-meets-classic winery celebration at JM Cellars. With a friend of the couple officiating, the ceremony took place under an arch with cascading white and ivory florals and aromatic wisteria. The ring bearer was a very chill and soulful dog who hung out with the guests throughout the night. Bunches of white florals with roses and hydrangeas formed the centerpieces for the dining tables, which featured modern glass and matte-black table settings and were surrounded by modern black Chiavari chairs. For the menu, the couple went for an inventive mix that highlighted their own preferences. This “Hers, His and Ours” menu included the couple’s three favorite foods. “His” favorites consisted of a pizza buffet of “Roni (Pepperoni) Rolls,” garlic bread knots and Caesar salad. “Hers” was a sushi station created by chef Yuko of Hiroshi’s Restaurant & Catering Service and included five sushi rolls and four types of nigiri. “Ours” was a taco bar, with three taco fillings and a variety of toppings to choose from. Stephanie and Tyler sourced their wedding cake, cake bombs and macarons from some friends’ small businesses, located in their neighborhood.

IMEE & STEVEN

Married: PACIFIC CONNECTIONS GARDEN AT WASHINGTON PARK ARBORETUM

Celebrated: MOUNTAINEERING CLUB, GRADUATE SEATTLE HOTEL

Date: JULY 9, 2022

Imee Tribo and Steven Bierer wanted their wedding venues to have meaning for them. For their ceremony, they chose the Pacific Connections Garden at Washington Park Arboretum, where New Zealand native Imee has volunteered for years in its 2.5-acre New Zealand forest. The couple also saw this locale as an homage to their Kiwi family and friends who couldn’t attend the wedding due to travel restrictions. Imee and Steven’s ceremony brought in a plethora of traditions that were rich with significance: An acoustic guitarist gave a live performance, a children’s parade came through, and acknowledgement was given to the Duwamish Tribe for the land. Rings were carried by Imee and Steven’s dog and then, with the help of Steven’s son, passed around to be blessed by the guests. The ceremony also highlighted photos of the couple’s parents, who couldn’t attend, and all enjoyed a special surprise of Japanese taiko drumming from the nearby Japanese Garden. A picnic was then held in a meadow, where guests feasted on pastries and sparkling cider. For the reception, Imee and Steven chose the Mountaineering Club, atop the Graduate Seattle hotel, for its views of both the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, as well as Lake Washington, Lake Union and downtown Seattle. That building was also where the two had their first date, in the District Lounge, which once was housed in its basement.

NANCY & BRANT

Married and celebrated: SEMIAHMOO RESORT, BLAINE

Date: JULY 30, 2022

Nancy Bucher and Brant Sichko chose Semiahmoo Resort for their nuptials to showcase the beautiful scenery of Nancy’s Pacific Northwest roots. Many guests flew in from the groom’s home state of Florida and enjoyed the resort’s proximity to spots such as the San Juan Islands and Vancouver, British Columbia. The couple envisioned a Northwest summer wedding that was at once casual yet luxurious and classy. They chose details that reflected abundance, such as lush florals in blush, ivory and fuchsia with trailing greenery; that same greenery was also entwined around the chandeliers. Guests dined on filet mignon, blackened halibut and three flavors of wedding cake. Table settings, such as watercolor-print napkins, were in a palette of pinks and blues. Nancy wore an elegant Randy Fenoli gown with flowing layers; Brant sported a blush suit from Indochino sans a tie; and the bridesmaids wore blue tulip-hemmed dresses. The signature cocktails were named after the couple’s rescue dogs: Pepper, who inspired a spicy margarita; and Ginger, the namesake of a ginger beer Moscow mule. Guests partied the night away with LED glow sticks and heart-shaped pink sunglasses on the dance floor.

Reserve event necessities. Book portable toilets for outdoor events, extra chairs, linens, lighting and so on.

Start making a day-of timeline, determining what should happen when (speeches, first dance, etc).

Book a block of hotel rooms near the reception site for out-of-town guests. Register for gifts at two to three places. Start to keep track of favorite songs.

4

TO 6 MONTHS BEFORE:

Order all wedding stationery (invitations, envelopes, thank-you notes) and work out pricing for programs, menus and place cards, which will be printed closer to the date. Hire wedding-day transportation. Book flights and hotel reservations for your honeymoon.

Arrange the rehearsal dinner. Schedule any beauty treatments (brow-waxing, facials, teeth-whitening) that you’d like to have done before the wedding. Send a guest list to the host of your bridal shower.

Order passport, if necessary. Purchase wedding rings; order engraving. Remind mother and mother-in-law to start shopping for their dresses.

2 TO 4 MONTHS BEFORE:

Order the suits for the groom and groomsmen. Meet with the caterer or facility manager to discuss menus, wine selections, serving style, etc. Choose and order wedding favors and welcome baskets, if desired.

Order the wedding cake. Meet with your officiant to discuss your ceremony; invite loved ones to perform readings, if appropriate.

Choose songs for the ceremony and reception. Buy thank-you gifts for your attendants. Confirm group hotel rates for out-of-town guests.

Book your pre-wedding and wedding-night hotel.

Finalize your honeymoon plans. Send invitations to the calligrapher if you’re using one.

Plan your bachelorette party with your attendants. Send a day-of timeline to your vendors so they’ll have ample time for tweaks and feedback.

Sign up for dance lessons, if desired.

1 TO 2 MONTHS BEFORE: Mail invitations. Do a hair and makeup run-through (with headpiece).

Meet with the caterer to finalize a menu. Send programs, menus and escort cards to the stationer to be printed (if not using a calligrapher).

Send your wedding announcement to local newspapers, if desired. Write thank-you notes as you receive gifts. Maintain a list of all presents received and thank-yous written.

2 TO 4 WEEKS BEFORE:

Plot the seating for the reception. Confirm times with all vendors. Have your final dress fitting. Write your rehearsal dinner toast. Compose your vows, if desired. Visit the salon for one last cut and color. Send escort cards and the seating chart to your calligrapher to fill in guests’ names and table numbers.

Enter RSVPs into a guest-list database, and call invitees who haven’t yet responded. Get your marriage license. If you’re changing your name, order several extra copies.

If changing your name, make arrangements with Social Security, Department of Motor Vehicles, credit card companies and your bank. Mail the rehearsal dinner invitations, if applicable.

Stock the bar using your final head count as a guide.

Send out as many final vendor payments as you can.

Provide addresses for drivers of transport vehicles.

Create a must-take “shot list” and discuss it with your photographer.

1 WEEK BEFORE:

Compile the fees that will be due on the wedding day.

Give the caterer a final head count.

Appoint a reliable pal to transport the cake knife, toasting glasses, etc. to and from the reception site.

Get final beauty treatments (facial, waxing, brow-shaping, etc.).

Pack for the honeymoon. Ask someone to bring your luggage to the reception if you’re leaving from there.

Give your honeymoon itinerary to a friend or family member in case of emergency. Pick up your dress or make arrangements for it to be fetched or delivered.

Arrange for the cake to be delivered to the reception venue.

Buy a guest book, if you choose to use one. Delegate small wedding-day tasks: someone to carry your things; someone to bustle your dress; someone to manage the gifts; someone to hand out tips; and so on.

Send a timeline to the bridal party, including every member’s contact information. Break in your shoes.

Assemble and distribute welcome baskets to out-of-town guests, if desired.

Pick up wedding rings, check engravings and sizes.

Remind men to pick up formalwear and shoes, and check them for fit.

If you don’t have a personal attendant, ask a friend to help you get dressed on the big day. Talk to head usher about any special seating arrangements.

Arrange for a light snack for the wedding party to eat while getting ready for the ceremony.

LAST 24 HOURS:

Help decorate the venue, if necessary. Have a manicure, pedicure and any other last-minute pampering treatments.

Distribute thank-you gifts to the wedding party, special attendants and parents.

Organize for a note or gift to be delivered to your fiancé on the wedding day.

Take a relaxing bath, go to bed early and start getting excited. You’re about to get married!
