RING IN THE NEW

Change is in the air as we head into 2022, from the world waking from the pandemic to fresh starts here at Oregon Bride . I’m excited to be taking the helm as its editor-in-chief, alongside our new publisher, Alexis Sanabria, and our managing editor, Chelsea Gibson. With an energetic new team in place, we are looking to discover, inspire, reinvent and celebrate love with every turn of the page.

With an eye to the future, in this issue we take a look at how the wedding industry, from venues to vendors, is engaging in sustainable practices. And there is no better way to start a new chapter with your significant other than to share your love with Mother Earth, so we also offer some ideas about how you, as a couple planning your wedding, can make your special day as planet-friendly as possible. Also in this issue, we’ve asked experts to weigh in with great ideas for green weddings, presented beautiful gowns that are created using sustainable practices, and unearthed eight environmentally conscientious venues.

Of course, we’ve also packed these pages with inspiration for planning your big day, as well as real weddings, cool ideas and so much more. Our collaboration with the talented team from Bridal Bliss is pure romance with its textured florals and sunshine yellow color palette. So much to love!

Dream on, lovely couples, your big day awaits!

FEELIN’ GROOVY

If the idea of a white wedding feels a bit uninspired, it may be time to go retro and pay homage to a funkier era. When the Campfire Hotel opened in Bend, designers at The Indigo Bride lit up with inspiration for a 1970s-style wedding. With the hotel’s palette of vintage oranges and yellows, only a groovy take on a modern design would do. continued on next page

The pool area served as the ceremony site, where an altar of sunset-hued balloons and mismatched rugs lining the aisle turned up the hippie vibe. Hand-painted metallic leaves added a modern element for the “I dos.” Inside at the hotel’s cantina, the venue for the reception, The Posie Shoppe introduced tropical elements to the floral arrangements. Striking bird-ofparadise, shiny pink anthurium and bright roses served as stunning contrast to the jade glassware and lime-green taper candles, with orange metal chairs tying the entire tablescape together. Vinyl 45-rpm records were reimagined as candleholders, adding a touch of campiness to the scene. Alyson of Wild Folk Flower Apothecary crafted botanical cocktails served in ’70s-style green glasses, which complemented the fondue for two served from a custom-painted caquelon. “We believe that just because a wedding is small does not mean the details have to be overlooked,” says The Indigo Bride’s Alisha Reicks-Sturgill. “In fact, having an intimate wedding means you can let your creativity go wild. And you can soak in every moment of your stress-free wedding celebration.”

BRIDE IDEAS

MAGIC MOUNTAIN

Nothing is more breathtaking than a sunset, so when it came to dreaming up the design for a shoot at Prindle Mountain Overlook, this talented team of local vendors looked to the sky. The radiant color palette centers on shades of orange, with bursts of deep pink, purple, yellow and dark blue. Circles—a nod to the shape of the sun—are also featured throughout the décor and on other items, such as the showstopper cake created by Bite Me! Cookies & Treats. The design’s theme, which the team coined “retro vintage eclectic,” touches every detail of the big day, from the font on the signage to the retro stoneware plates at each place setting and the funky ties the real-life married couple is sporting.

A dark natural wood table serves as the foundation for the colorful reception. Event planner Ash Does Events’ handmade table runner is composed of hundreds of paper circles arranged in an ombre effect to emulate a sunset; and a stunning floral installation by Scarlet Blooms hangs overhead for an unexpected look. Small terra-cotta planters containing succulents double as place cards and favors. For the ultimate “wow” moment, Marley Jo Balloons decked out the venue’s vintage milk truck with a colorful balloon arrangement for the welcome area and gift station (plus, an amazing photo backdrop!).

LET LOVE SOAR

Just because you’ve decided to elope doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice anything. Intimate, romantic and full of possibilities, elopements are all the rage. They also provide a unique opportunity to be intentional about your choices for your wedding day. What do you really want? How do you want to spend your day? Think beyond the courthouse and explore exciting ideas, such as this bright, memorable elopement at Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm, which incorporates a magical rainbow hot-air balloon. Not only does it offer a stunning backdrop for photos and microwedding ceremony setups, but a hot-air balloon is a fun way to exit your party. “Getaways” come in all shapes and sizes—a vintage car, a boat ride, a Vespa— but a hot-air balloon? That’s as romantic as it gets.

DINNER WITH A VENUE

Nestled in Portland’s Pearl District is Events at Hunt & Gather Catering, a venue and catering hybrid that has everything you need for the perfect wedding in one place. The restaurant-style space features industrial elements that lend themselves to a warm dinner party atmosphere, with open-air seating—thanks to floor-toceiling windows—for as many as 125 seated or 200 guests standing. And while the venue is a showstopper, Hunt & Gather Catering’s biggest attraction lies in its culinary creations. Chef Andrew Biggs is classically trained in French culinary techniques and uses local, sustainable ingredients to create gourmet dishes. The open kitchen design allows for an interactive experience between chefs and guests, as the latter get to enjoy watching as dishes such as grilled stone fruit salad with ricotta brûlée and cold-poached Alaskan halibut come into existence. Laura Harlow-Biggs, the other half of Hunt & Gather Catering’s dynamic duo, is an event planner with decades of experience and will make sure you get hitched without a hitch at the one-stop venue. AN INVITING DESIGN

GIVE GUESTS A GLIMPSE INTO YOUR UPCOMING WEDDING DAY WITH A BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED INVITATION SUITE

When guests receive a save-the-date in the mail, it is their first impression of your wedding. An invitation suite sets the tone and expectations for the big day, yet for the engaged couple, it often can be an afterthought when facing ostensibly bigger decisions, such as florals, dress and venue. But consider treating your invitations as a teaser for what’s to come, as Aisle Ready Events (@aislereadyevents) has done in coordination with The Scribblist (@thescribblist) when designing this garden party invitation suite, which ties together all the themes of the main event.

“I wanted to bring in a modern element while complementing the natural beauty of the gardens,” says Jodie Stansbury of Aisle Ready Events. Tied with a white ribbon and with a gold wax seal, the translucent vellum wrap features a watercolor illustration of Oakwood Gardens’ intricate gate.

In its arrangements, Ribbon and Twine Floral (@ribbonandtwinefloral) cultivated a palette of reds, pinks and sunny yellows similar to that used in the flora bordering the invitation.

IT’S EASY BEING GREEN

OREGON EVENT EXPERTS SHARE THEIR TRIED-AND-TRUE TIPS FOR AN ECO-FRIENDLY, SUSTAINABLE WEDDING

SUSTAINABILITY HAS BECOME A MAJOR TREND IN THE WEDDING INDUSTRY—AND FOR GOOD REASON. Gone are the days of throwing away untouched tiers of cake, using excessive amounts of paper goods and not questioning from where your vendors are sourcing products. Luckily for couples in the throes of wedding planning, there are so many choices that honor Mother Earth without sacrificing luxury or style. From reusable signage to eliminating food waste, four of Oregon’s wedding experts weigh in on simple strategies that make a big impact on your big day.

FIND YOUR DREAM TEAM

Wedding planner Amanda Galbraith of Amanda Claire and Company emphasizes that your wedding should reflect who the two of you are as life partners. “If living a sustainable lifestyle is important, your wedding day should absolutely surround this concept,” she says. This starts with choosing a location that reflects your passions. “For the adventurously

hearted and eco-friendly focused couple, eloping at a meaningful location is an incredible way to start your life journey together.”

Bringing your vision to life is step two, and choosing the right team is key to achieving this. “Be extremely mindful of who you decide to hire,” Galbraith continues. “An elopement takes a fair amount of planning, and choosing an experienced team that shares the same eco values will make your wedding day go a lot smoother. Your hired professionals will be able to source permits, help you pack accordingly, build a timeline that completely encompasses your love story, coach you on no-trace policies and help you every step of the way to ensure you are respecting the land.”

CHOOSE AN ECO-CONSCIOUS CATERER

Food can become a huge source of waste at weddings, but it doesn’t have to be. Galbraith recommends asking your caterer or private chef these important questions: “Do they purchase local produce? Do they plan meals seasonally? Do they have plant-based options? Do they offer

AMANDA CLAIRE AND COMPANY
ELY ROBERTS; KENDRA CATES PHOTOGRAPHY
DANIELLE NICHOLE EVENTS

recycling or composting bins on-site, or recommend a local green trash service?” Together, these solutions can greatly reduce your event’s environmental impact.

Nick and Noelle Amaya Bell of Renegade Catering are prime examples of caterers striving to embody this. They always seek to “minimize food waste, avoid bleached cardboard and use biodegradable plasticware,” with the goal of completely eliminating food waste throughout their entire chain of service.

Wedding planner Danielle Nichole Phan of Danielle Nichole Events encourages renting items versus using disposables. “If renting is not an option based on theme and location of wedding,” she says, “then I suggest purchasing palm leaf dishware and biodegradable flatware as well as recyclable cups.”

GO LOCAL

Local, local, local. Renegade Catering shares this sentiment, advising that “couples should educate themselves on the value system and food philosophy of their caterer. If that isn’t possible, you can’t go wrong with supporting local businesses who use local ingredients—if you’re truly concerned about ‘ecofriendly,’ this is where it starts.”

The benefit of sourcing locally is supporting local communities, and for florist Jodi Iverson of Jodi Iverson Florals, the local farms for sustainably sourced flowers. “The Portland Flower Market is made up of many small farms that grow high-quality flowers. I know that I am getting flowers with minimal storage and transportation time, which helps the quality of the flowers upon arrival.” Growers typically prepare for each wedding season, giving florists plenty of time to create the most beautiful pieces for each celebration.

FOCUS ON SIMPLE CHANGES

When it comes to being eco-conscious, couples don’t need to look far. Some simple changes Phan mentions are “using chalkboard signs, wooden signs, mirror signs or acrylic signs for welcome signs and signs for areas like the gift table or desserts table. This helps with having to use paper signage that you have to toss at the end of the night.”

Galbraith proposes finding “a ring with little or no environmental impact by going vintage. Consider reusing or recycling a lovely ring, perhaps a family heirloom!” In the spirit of reusing, Iverson likes to use “recyclable materials such as glass and chicken wire” in her floral arrangements. She also composts any remaining greenery and recycles floral packaging. Additionally, “When I break down bouquets after an event,” she notes, “I like to recover any plastics that can be reused such as trays and liners.”

GIVE BACK ON YOUR WEDDING DAY AT THESE EIGHT ECO-FRIENDLY VENUES

OREGON’S IMMENSE NATURAL BEAUTY AND ENDLESS LANDSCAPES SET A STRIKINGLY GREEN SCENE FOR AN ECO-FRIENDLY WEDDING. With several environmentally conscious venues throughout the state, the opportunities to give back to the Earth on your special day are ample. From the use of recycled materials in construction to renewable energy sources, these eight eco-friendly venues bring environmentalism to your wedding day while delivering breathtaking backdrops. There is something for every couple on this list; whether it’s a nature retreat or a downtown haven, these venues are guaranteed to wow.

FIVEPINE LODGE

Sustainability is the name of the game for the team at FivePine Lodge in Sisters. The contemporary yet rustic ambiance of the premises lends itself to the plentiful green initiatives in place at this Oregon getaway. A minimal-impact approach was taken in the building construction on the property, with structures rising among the trees to preserve the forest setting as much as possible. The hotel also has a property-wide recycling center, eco-friendly amenities, and energy-efficient cooling and heating. With both indoor and outdoor spaces, the venue can accommodate as many as 200 guests and offers dazzling views. FivePine is committed to supporting local growers and local businesses as much as possible through its initiatives.

MT. HOOD ORGANIC FARMS

At its core, Mt. Hood Organic Farms is about family. The family-owned and -operated property, situated at the base of Mount Hood, is surrounded by natural beauty and scenic landscapes. In 1981, when John and Brady Jacobson began working the orchards, they made a commitment to sustainable land use and organic farming. The farm was certified as fully organic in 1989, making it the first in the valley to receive that distinction. Taking their sustainable initiatives and their commitment to organic farming a step further, the Jacobsons then became certified biodynamic growers. Just off Oregon Route 35, this destination feels like a hidden paradise, with more than 200 acres of nature for guests to explore.

ECOTRUST BUILDING

In its various event spaces, the Ecotrust Building prioritizes the environment down to the smallest details. The building is the first historical renovation in the nation to receive LEED Gold certification and also has earned Earth Advantage certification. Much of the

energy used throughout the space is generated by solar panels, and the building’s staff works to ensure weddings and other events leave a minimal carbon footprint. The team behind the Ecotrust Building is all about sustainability, down to the sustainable wood cladding on the walls in some of the event spaces. There are three spaces to choose from for weddings, including a rooftop terrace, deemed by Ecotrust as “our very own park in the sky.”

SALEM CONVENTION CENTER

Located amidst the buzz of downtown Salem, the Salem Convention Center offers stunning event spaces that adhere to sustainable practices. Since 2008, the property has been certified as an EarthWISE building, meaning the center has met regulations for a variety of sustainability- and energy-related measures set by Marion County. Recycled materials are used throughout the spaces, down to the materials for the floors. All food waste is composted on the property, and excess food is donated to the Union Gospel Mission of Salem to further minimize waste. For weddings, the center focuses on making couples’ wedding visions a reality, whether those celebrations are large or intimate.

SALISHAN COASTAL LODGE

Developed with the intention of showcasing the Pacific Northwest as a natural haven, the Salishan Coastal Lodge also holds sustainability as a key objective. Envisioned by John Gray, the property was built with the environment in mind, harmonizing with the natural resources of the region. Landscape designers also worked with local flora and fauna to make Salishan feel as if it were growing up from the surrounding coastal forest. The property offers couples more than 16,000 square feet of rustic yet elegant indoor and outdoor space for weddings.

SOKOL BLOSSER

Sokol Blosser has three priorities for its winery: people, planet and profit. Its sustainability missions earned it the status of a certified B Corp in 2015, and efforts to prioritize sustainability have only increased since then. The winery was the first in the world to receive LEED certification for its barrel cellar and implements other green initiatives that include solar panels and renewable

wind power. Wine-growing practices in the certified organic vineyard are eco-friendly, and a commitment to reducing waste is a top priority for the winery. In addition to being “green,” the property also offers beautiful views for your wedding day, with stunning surroundings that are well-suited to any wedding event.

ALLISON INN AND SPA

With a goal of redefining luxury and hospitality, the dazzling Allison Inn and Spa gives a new spin on environmentalism. Located in the foothills of the Willamette Valley, the resort combines sustainable elements with modern amenities. The Allison Inn and Spa has been awarded LEED Gold certification, and its construction led to a net agricultural gain, meaning more trees and vegetation were planted than removed in the process of building. Other green initiatives include solar-generated hot water, the use of photovoltaic cells for some electricity, and no plastic water bottles. Ideal for an Oregon wine country wedding, the Allison Inn and Spa can accommodate as many as 150 guests and offers couples lush views of Oregon’s natural beauty.

WORLD FORESTRY CENTER

With a mission to “create and inspire champions of sustainable forestry,” the World Forestry Center offers couples an eco-friendly venue immersed in nature. Known for hosting a plethora of environmental-related events, including a Timberland Investment Conference and a wildfire summit, the center is committed to finding ways to mitigate and address climate change and preserve the environment. Couples are sure to enjoy abundant photo ops at this breathtaking venue. Situated only a few minutes from downtown Portland, this oasis has a variety of banquet halls and outdoor event spaces for pulling off an eco-friendly wedding.

THE TEXTURE OF FLORALS COMBINED WITH EARTHY ELEMENTS ELEVATE THE COLOR YELLOW TO FINE ART AT THE BINDERY IN MCMINNVILLE

Designed by Katy Haley of Bridal Bliss

Photography by Amanda K. Photography

Text by Lara M. Burnap

We really wanted to create something out of the box. Not your NORMAL FLORALS , but something with WHIMSICAL textures and EARTHY elements while still keeping an ELEVATED look.

After spending hours during the pandemic watching reruns of Friends , Bridal Bliss’ Senior Planner Katy Haley took inspiration from Ross and Emily’s candlelit wedding for this romantic design starring yellow. The industrial setting of The Bindery serves as the perfect backdrop to the lushly textured florals and dramatic Edison bulb–style lighting. To allow the whimsical floral arrangements and lighting to shine, Haley kept the tabletop design to a neutral palette while juxtaposing feminine touches, such as delicate ceramic plates, with masculine elements like the natural-bone-handle flatware.

spring/summer 2022 orbridemag.com | 31

The three-tier cake features geometric touches that echo the design of the invitations; both feature clean lines that are simple yet impactful. “We made a point to bring the cake and desserts to the forefront and really make a statement.” To up the impact, modern pendant lights frame the dessert setting, fusing the tabletop to the other elements of the design.

32 | orbridemag.com spring/summer 2022

I was excited to bring in NEUTRAL ELEMENTS to complement the FLORAL and LIGHTING, but also to bring some depth to them and make a statement on their own. I loved the idea of ceramic plates with EARTHY TEXTURES and wooden flatware INFUSED with the look of the floral.

IT’S CHIC TO BE GREEN

SHARE YOUR LOVE WITH MOTHER EARTH AND TIE THE KNOT IN A SUSTAINABLE AND STYLISH BRIDAL GOWN

Australian bridal design company GRACE LOVES LACE spent two years engineering fabric for the debut of its first sustainably and ethically handmade gown, created from 96% recycled materials. In an effort to avoid the use of new materials, founder and creative director Megan Ziems sought repurposed resources that would reduce landfill, ocean waste and CO2 emissions to create the “Lumi” gown. “Repurposing what’s traditionally seen as waste product to create a valued heirloom—to me that’s revolutionary,” explains Ziems.

The “Lumi” gown features lace paneling and a tulle overlay, with an accompanying veil. Dress $2,300, veil $410, at the Grace Loves Lace (@graceloveslace) showroom in Seattle.

LEANNE MARSHALL’s bridal gowns are created using sustainable textiles and natural fibers sourced from reputable mills, all of which meet environmental and working standard regulations. To avoid overproduction, surplus inventory and unnecessary waste, each bridal gown is custom produced to order by seamstresses who are paid fair wages. Each and every gown is constructed using natural and biodegradable fibers that can decompose in as little as 10 months. But don’t worry, a properly stored gown will not decompose in such a short period of time.

The “Simona” silk gown is a standout with its detachable and convertible organza flutter sleeves and a full A-line skirt. Shown in ivory, it’s also available in periwinkle/blush and sunset orange. Prices begin at $3,550, from Leanne Marshall (@leannemarshallofficial).

Give back with your dress budget by shopping at BRIDES FOR A CAUSE, a nonprofit organization that collects and resells wedding dresses for charity. The beautifully appointed boutiques in Portland, Seattle, Tacoma and Sacramento are treasure troves of wedding gowns, with a wide selection of current collections donated from stores such as Kleinfeld Bridal in New York, so you can be assured the dresses are just as dreamy as any other. Best of all, the price tag of the gown supports a variety of nonprofit organizations that support women, such as the Loveland Foundation, which supports communities of color with a focus on women and girls; Dress for Success; Girls Inc.; and others. It’s a beautiful way to share love on your wedding day in a way that can help change someone’s life. “Our goal

at Brides for a Cause is to help change the mindset of what shopping at a charity bridal store looks and feels like. Most of our dresses are designer sample gowns donated by bridal stores across the country, so our brides are able to find unique pieces that aren’t normally found in their area while being sustainable and charitable with their purchase,” says Erin Scharf, founder of Brides for a Cause.

Continuing with the sustainability push, Dear Cleo also unveiled a signature bridal gown collection, with nearly 60% of its looks using fully recycled chiffon and a made-to-order design approach that reduces unnecessary waste.

REFORMATION is a feel-good fashion company with a stunning line of bridal gowns. The brand creates its fashionable designs using low-impact materials, rescued deadstock fabrics and repurposed vintage clothing. Most importantly, Reformation puts the people behind the clothes first, ensuring that they have a safe, healthy and fair working environment. The majority of the brand’s pieces are constructed in its Los Angeles factory in addition to sustainable factories around the world. This past fall, Reformation opened a 2,000-square-foot store in Portland where 100% of the electricity usage is offset with wind energy. The store’s design keeps sustainability at the forefront by incorporating natural and recyclable materials, such as vintage furniture, eco-friendly fabrics, hangars and reusable deadstock totes.

A gorgeous tablescape swathed in royal blue is striking against the rich architectural surroundings. The elongated setup springs to life with lush, textural floral arrangements of anthurium, orchids and cherry blossom branches. Vintage Chinese silk napkins depict Chinese architectural elements, mountainside waterfalls, and local flora and fauna, while gold-rimmed plates and flatware bring elegant luster to the place settings. The Chinese symbol of double happiness and the folds of a Chinese fan—reflected in the intricate stationery suite—are also woven throughout the floral and table elements.

Koi fish, which hold special significance in Chinese culture, are hand-painted on the bride’s shoes, incorporated into the design of the invitations and nestled among rice paper elements on the masterful wedding cake.

When trying to create a destination feel within a LOCAL landscape, it’s more IMPORTANT than ever to pay attention to even the small details. Remember that you are trying to CREATE a total EXPERIENCE for your guests, not just something PRETTY.

MARISA & STEPHEN

Married and celebrated: PRONGHORN RESORT, BEND Date: MAY 2, 2021

Marisa Bradley and Stephen Anthony tied the knot in a romantic and whimsical wedding in central Oregon. The two exchanged vows at a lava tube, with delicate floral arrangements adorning the entrance. For Marisa and Stephen, their day was about showcasing their story and life together through the details incorporated into the reception. The tables were set with vintage Tiffany dinnerware, which included spoons, serving sets and platters handed down from the bride’s grandmother. The event’s palette enhanced the region’s natural beauty with earthy shades of terra-cotta, blue, peach and pink. The floral arrangements were simple and elegant with a minimum of greenery, and featured peonies and roses that beautifully complemented the look of the event. Bridesmaids wowed in taupe gowns that harmonized with the hues of their surroundings, and groomsmen were dressed in elegant charcoal gray tuxedos. Marisa’s dramatic blush gown, a custom piece from Vera Wang, further elevated the elegance of the celebration.

EMY & DAVE

Married and celebrated: HOUSE ON METOLIUS, CAMP SHERMAN Date: JULY 4, 2021

Free spirits Emy Gelb and Dave Merritt brought the Swedish midsommar fete to the Metolius River, paying tribute to the bride’s heritage with a colorful and immersive celebration that recalled Scandinavian traditions. Dave proposed while he and Emy were kayaking on the McKenzie River, so it made sense that the two would tie the knot along the banks of another one of Oregon’s stunning tributaries. Emy and Dave asked only that the celebration be teeming with color and happiness. The florals were where Emy’s Swedish roots shone the brightest. Blomstra Floral Co. used wildflowers exclusively to reflect the couple’s easygoing natures. The arbor featured a simple wood frame with an arrangement of sunflowers, irises and red wildflowers. Emy’s bouquet contained a similar vibrant palette and was complemented by Wildly Collected’s silk ribbons. Guests were invited to create their own midsommarkrans, or midsummer wreaths, at a station filled with bright blooms. Each flower or plant was accompanied by a label describing its meaning, and guests were encouraged to treat their headpieces like well wishes for the couple, sending them strength, friendship and more. After the ceremony, the bride and groom plunged into the river fully clothed, then dried off and headed over to the reception, where Emy’s mother stole the show with her rendition of Swedish snaps songs.

BRIANNA & ANUP

Married and celebrated: SMITH CREEK VILLAGE AT SILVER FALLS STATE PARK, SUBLIMITY Date:

SEPTEMBER 9, 2021

For Brianna “Boo” Gehring and Anup Mankar, melding their contemporary love of the outdoors with their Indian heritage was the perfect theme for their wedding day. After meeting in Cape Town, South Africa, back in 2013, Boo and Anup found themselves traveling the world and eventually settling together on the East Coast after three years of a long-distance relationship. The twosome sought a hybrid Hindu and Western wedding to combine their love for nature and the outdoors with traditional elements. It was also important to the couple to spend as much quality time with their guests as possible, and Smith Creek Village at Silver Falls State Park allowed for a weekend full of hiking and exploring the surrounding natural beauty. Boo and Anup opted for a bright, bold palette, featuring shades of orange, pink and burgundy with splashes of emerald. The floral design blended marigolds, carnations and ferns with classic Pacific Northwest greenery. Disco balls were also incorporated into the design, in keeping with classic Bollywood style. Being dog lovers, the couple knew their wedding wouldn’t be complete without their four-legged family members, so Boo’s mother made “dog saris” to pay playful homage to the couple’s heritage. Among the highlights of the weekend were performances by family and friends, ranging from poetry to traditional Indian dances. Boo said, “Walking up the hill to the Davidson Ranch, after taking some magical waterfall portraits, and seeing the beautiful old barn all decked out and full of our friends and family gathered together was an amazing moment.”

KATRINA & JOSEPH

Married and celebrated: TIN ROOF BARN, WHITE SALMON

Date: JULY 23, 2021

From the start, Katrina Seipel wanted a bohemian dream wedding. Her nuptials to Joseph Westover realized that dream as the couple tied the knot at Tin Roof Barn. The two criminal defense attorneys met in the courtroom while representing opposing sides of a case. The proposal was untraditional, with Katrina casually suggesting the pair get married as she fed their daughter. After Joseph agreed, the planning began for the chic bohemian affair. Their elegant event followed a neutral color palette, which paired beautifully with the rustic ambiance of Tin Roof Barn. Featuring dried elements such as pampas grass and eucalyptus throughout the design, the floral arrangements befitted the bohemian theme. Those florals consisted of a refined mix of Italian ruscus, preserved thistle, miniature palm spears, assorted dyed ferns, rice flower and bunny tails, all tied together with dainty silk ribbons. Staying true to her bohemian vision, bride Katrina chose a dress from The White Dress that featured shoulder cutouts and lace detailing. A freestanding arch marked the ceremony location, with bold dried florals and fringe adorning the structure. Centerpieces continued the bohemian floral design and were accented with small succulents and terra-cotta candleholders. Much of the inspiration for the day was taken from the natural beauty of the Tin Roof Barn venue, which lent itself flawlessly to the bohemian chic vibe of the wedding.

JORDAN & TYLER

Married and celebrated: THE GRIFFIN HOUSE, HOOD RIVER Date: JUNE 27, 2021

Jordan Sosa and Tyler Baker believe that you should “live by the sun and love by the moon.” Inspired by this mantra, which is written on a plaque that hangs in their home, the couple took the second half of the statement and transformed it into a heavenly wedding theme. The palette of moody navy, dusty blues and copper complemented The Griffin House’s beautiful vistas of the Columbia River Gorge. The couple wanted to emphasize family and ensure a leisurely ceremony, with time to share personal vows with their daughter, Leia. Jordan was the embodiment of grace in a sleeveless BHLDN gown with a plunging neckline, which was accessorized with an ethereal cape veil and a celestial headpiece with matching earrings. She carried a textural bouquet featuring lush greenery, anemones, ranunculus, peonies and garden roses, cinched with silk and velvet ribbons. Flanking the ceremony space were smaller arrangements containing the same blooms as the bouquet. The reception tables were adorned with modern dishware, including copper chargers that symbolized the constellations in the night sky. Acrylic moons doubled as place cards and wedding favors. As the night came to a close, guests cast floating bubbles over Jordan, Tyler and Leia as they made their exit, smiles spread across their faces after celebrating their newly minted family.

JULIANNE & STEELEDAN

Married and celebrated: CROWLEY HOUSE FLOWER FARM, RICKREALL Date: JUNE 5, 2021

Julianne Smith and Steeledan Cortes tied the knot on a cozy June evening among roses and peonies and with a few family members and friends present. The intimate ceremony was held in a close friend’s backyard, which is a working flower farm and not typically available for weddings. The memorable first dance took place on a rug in the middle of the farm to the sounds of Elvis Presley’s “I Can’t Help Falling in Love,” which the couple heard on their first date at the local farmers market. The self-described “old souls” share a love for all things vintage, so they incorporated antique vessels for the floral arrangements, Polaroid cameras and a typewriter as the guest book—the last evoking sweet memories of the letters they would type to one another. Jazz music played in the background, contributing to the magical ambiance. The bride carried a romantic English garden–inspired bouquet composed of spray roses, rosemary, honeysuckle and various types of foliage. As the night grew cold and gray, the guests warmed themselves in a cozy yurt, wrapped in blankets near a woodstove and sipping coffee. The fairytale evening ended with a sparkler sendoff as the couple departed in a 1967 VW bug getaway car, complete with the classic “Just Married” sign and vintage luggage on the roof.
