EXPRESS YOURSELF This issue is all about personality and creativity. The weddings produced by the Nebraska wedding community over the past year were rooted in unique stories, where couples’ love became tangible through celebration. Engaged couples are showcasing themselves on their big day, and the wedding community continues finding innovative ways to help them achieve this. Whether through a fun arcade engagement session (page 30), displaying family wedding gowns (page 76), or an iconic espresso martini ice luge (page 86), each story and wedding is one-of-a-kind. For this issue’s fashion shoot, we ventured to the beautiful Lauritzen Gardens. Romantic gowns took center stage, complementing the breathtaking grounds. An all-star team came together to make this shoot possible. Stunning hair and makeup looks by Model Perfect Airbrush and Addi Malena Esthetics, bouquet by Rose Joy and gowns from First Look Attire, For The One Bridal and Spotlight Bridal ensured each look was simply stunning. BUTTER ME YELLOW On the lush grounds of Zenia, butter yellow painted a glorious scene. Imagined by Rylee Webb of Rylee Paige Events, a classic sailcloth tent shaded a breathtaking reception space where earthy textures met timeless sophistication. Yellow pillars bloomed with florals in soft, sunlit hues and sculptural greenery, while scalloped welcome signage added a playful touch. Inside the tent, a fabric sign showcasing signature cocktails carried the same whimsical spirit. Tables adorned with light linens were the perfect canvas for the charming design. Petal Collective effortlessly matched the atmosphere by weaving in yellow ranunculus, yellow garden roses and organic greenery throughout the design scheme. Drawing inspiration from the grandeur of a European summer, each place setting featured a buttery croissant tied with a delicate ribbon and handpainted watercolor menus. Striped napkins and floral-patterned plates brought visual intrigue, while scalloped, gold-rimmed pieces echoed the stationery motif. At the center, lush arrangements of greenery, moss and golden blooms spilled gracefully onto the ground, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Enhancing the quiet luxury of the occasion, the bride donned a chic long-sleeve lace gown accessorized with a bright bouquet, radiating bridal bliss.

Sami’s first instinct after her now-husband, Austin, proposed was to explore her parents’ wedding chest of memorabilia for inspiration. Like many brides, she tried on her mother’s dress and was surprised to find that it fit perfectly in all the right places. Sami reflects, “In that moment I knew I wanted to bring it back to life somehow.” Full of time-stamped trends from 1995, Sami was enamored with the intricate lace and beading adorning the bodice of the gown but removed the sleeves and shortened the train to modernize the fit. Blending her mother’s bridal era with her own, she revealed the upcycled wedding dress to her mother on the night of her rehearsal dinner. “Watching her face light up made it even more special,” Sami says, “Out of all the white dresses I wore during my bridal era, this one was by far my favorite. Venturing beyond trending designs and classic color schemes, Kimmy Ann Events crafted a scene celebrating femininity and color while remaining timeless. This floral-forward display exudes an elegant ambiance using harmonious hues of soft pink, apricot and pastel sage green. With the expertise of Lavish Flower Design, an intentional variety of feminine blooms, from garden roses and hyacinth to parrot tulips and ranunculus, combined in a fresh and refined take on table centerpieces. Floral motifs on the antique dishware enhanced the design’s timelessness and

MAXIMALISM CONTEMPORARY COLORS, LIGHTING AND TEXTURES SHAPE AN AVANT-GARDE DESIGN The Gallery at Omaha Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District was transformed into a boldly creative reception brimming with style and artistic flair. Conceptualized by 402 Events, a black-and-white color scheme set the tone, while distinctive florals and flowing drapery added dimension and textural movement. “It was all about the stark white and sharp black, paired with deep, saturated sunset colors, with pronounced color blocking,” the team says. Both grooms made a statement: one in a sophisticated blue-on-blue ensemble with a floral lapel, the other in a bold red suit complemented by a luxe pocket square boutonniere. Vibrant florals atop pedestals framed the ceremony stage, while sleek chairs elevated the clean, contemporary aesthetic. “The ceremony set was styled to be more intimate and family focused, with both traditional chairs and soft seating arranged to encompass the couple and play off of existing architecture in the room,” 402 Events explains.

The reception featured drapery above tables dressed in black-and-white checkered tablecloths. To balance the patterned linens, each table held a single-shade floral centerpiece accompanied by a menu in the same color. The head table showcased a gradient floral runner, unifying the sunset hues throughout the venue. Behind the bar, glass bottles and vases in shades of blue, red, and orange were arranged to create an innovative backdrop. Custom lighting cast bespoke shadows that emphasized the bold design and added an avant-garde touch. From start to finish, the concept was steeped in creativity and explored ways to craft a one-of-a-kind wedding day.

Always the venue owner—finally a bride. Creating a full circle moment, Kylie Gana, owner of Venue 5 Twenty-Two, married the love of her life, Chase DeVries, in a celebration steeped in heart, intention and class. “What made the day even more special was being able to celebrate in a space that we have both worked so hard to create,” the couple shares. A timeless black-and-white color scheme complemented by warm blush tones and greenery allowed the beauty of the venue to shine. Subtle sparkle was woven throughout the design with glam accents decorating the alfresco ceremony, while glowing table lamps and glistening centerpieces dazzled at the reception. In lieu of a traditional sweetheart table, Kylie and Chase opted for a grand king’s table. A verdant overhead structure with radiant chandeliers added a layer of enchantment. Once upon a time, when Ciara Maciel moved from California to South Dakota in middle school, she met Nate Spiegler. However, it was their senior prom that brought the two together for a decade-long romance, a sweet prelude to their marriage. “Fairytale” is the word that the couple used to describe both their relationship and wedding. And that fairytale was brought to life at The Bohemian Gardens in Omaha, a venue boasting lush flora—the perfect backdrop for their ethereal wedding. The aisle formed a tunnel of greenery leading to a clearing in the garden where the couple said, “I do.” The ceremony was romantic and intimate, with personal handwritten vows read aloud from books placed at the altar. Ciara and Nate had their wedding guests participate in a ring-warming ceremony, asking the guests to hold the rings and infuse them with love, blessings and wishes. The bridal party wore a variety of bright hues and carried vivid floral bouquets that matched the whimsy of their dresses. Ciara was the very picture of a fairytale romance in a tulle ball gown with off-the-shoulder puff sleeves and veil featuring a ruffle hem. The reception was illuminated with a warm ambiance from small table lamps and flickering taper candles. From the moment Cameron Scott and Joseph Johnson met each other, destiny started writing their inevitable love story. Soon after they met in high school, Joseph became the teacher’s assistant in Cameron’s art class, though he spent far more time getting to know her than assisting. In another twist of fate, Cameron had long dreamed of getting married at The Joslyn, ever since she witnessed a wedding there on a childhood field trip. As the day of their timeless fête arrived, the iconic museum served as the inspiration for every decision. Their ceremony highlighted the architectural beauty of the venue as chairs were arranged to echo the building’s curves and lead to a stage for Cameron and Joseph to enter the next chapter of their lives together. “I do’s” were a catalyst for celebration as guests gathered to find their seat among acrylic pedestals adorned with dreamy florals and Champagne, creating an interactive experience. A caterpillar-style table layout garnished with an abundance of clustered blooms artfully mirrored the museum's Dale Chihuly sculpture. Creating a work of art, the wedding gowns of Cameron and Joseph’s mothers and grandmothers were displayed to honor the love stories that came before them. Alida Beste and Alex Frisbie were living in different states in 2019 when they first connected playing Fortnite together. While they both hoped to win a Victory Royale, they found something even better. They kept in touch, becoming online gaming friends before beginning a long-distance relationship during college. After graduation, the couple settled in Nebraska, and in 2023, during a vacation in Hawaii, Alex proposed to Alida at sunset on the beach. Their wedding took place at Bella Terre Vineyard, a rustic venue inspired by the Italian countryside. The vineyard provided a picturesque backdrop for the ceremony, with an intricate iron gate and limewashed walls serving as the altar. Alida wore a classic dress with a daring open back, complemented by a trailing veil with floral appliqués. To complement the eucalyptus in the floral design, bridesmaids wore varying shades of green, while Alex and his groomsmen opted for sage green ties paired with light-colored suits. The flower arrangements echoed the warm tones of the venue— creams, yellows and sunset orange, accenting the terracotta details and exposed brickwork. Following the ceremony, friends and family moved inside the venue hall, which was designed to evoke a charming European city, with walls depicting Italian street views. Alida and Alex entered through a hidden entrance in one of the storefronts and descended into a dramatic staircase to join the celebration. Extroverted couple Scott Davis and Madelyn Vogel envisioned a modern wedding full of high energy and dancing, which came to fruition this spring at The Garden Theatre. Embracing the minimalist style of their venue, the couple incorporated soft pink hues and olive tones that complemented the floral décor. Madelyn honored tradition in her bridal attire by wearing the string of pearls that both her mother and grandmother had worn on their wedding days, which enhanced the elegance of her form-fitting lace gown and natural curls. She also included calla lilies in her lush bouquet, as her mother had done. White rose petals lined the bold, dramatically lit aisle, leading to a modern floral-arched altar atop a stage, where Scott and Madelyn professed their love in front of their tight-knit group of family and friends. Grateful for the emotional bond their personally written vows strengthened with each other and their guests, the couple also performed the cultural tradition of jumping the broom, symbolizing their step into a new life together. Custom signage featuring a wedding logo designed by the bride was accented with single stems of pink roses in modern vases, table number displays with photos of the couple and a black-and-white checkered dance floor, setting the scene for a lively reception to unfold. Excited for their loved ones to experience the Midwestern magic of the outdoors, Ashley Christianson and Dan Walsworth lovingly crafted a scene that felt like home for their wedding day at Arbor Day Farm. The phrase "Lucky in Love" is often used to describe the happy couple, and their cheery, playful dispositions were reflected in the vibrance of their nuptials. Ashley exhibited an elegant bridal glow, with the classic sensibility of her structured, off-the-shoulder gown complemented by the colorful array of patterned gowns worn by her bridesmaids. Whimsical, locally sourced florals in shades of peach, yellow and magenta framed the base of the altar in the outdoor ceremony space while a single sunflower rested on a seat in honor of the bride's late father. Under a shady canopy of trees, scored by singing birds and soft music, Ashley and Dan became husband and wife, their ecstatic smiles exuding their pure joy and love for each other as they walked back down the aisle. As another tribute to Ashley's late father, guests were invited to "Grab a Roadie," for the woodsy walk to the reception, immediately starting the party. Questions about the couple, along with preceding answers, were posted on custom signage throughout cocktail hour alongside outdoor games and tasty bites. The reception scene unfolded with sunny, joyful details scattered throughout. Butter yellow linens were decorated with snapdragons, peonies and other local flora. Inspired by the orchards on the property, an apple served as a name card at each place setting. Embracing cinematic opulence with an air of old-world simplicity, Leah Abebe and Gage Walker’s wedding weekend echoed the romance of the many dates they spent wandering through art museums. Leaning into the decadent vibe of Joslyn Castle for their ceremony, the bridesmaids wore gowns in a deep olive hue that complemented the abundant foliage and soft white florals, displayed both in their bouquets and atop white pillar-style podiums. Leah was a vision of timeless beauty in a strapless gown in a luxe fabric embossed with subtle floral details, flowing veil, pearl earrings and dramatic scarf, while Gage put his own twist on the classic tux with a playful string tie. On the outdoor staircase of the castle, the romantic doorway serving as their altar, Leah and Gage vowed their love to one another while guests fanned themselves on the lush grounds. A continuation of the romantic ambiance, the party moved to the Great Hall of The Durham Museum, where guests were prompted to their seats with a gallery-wall seating chart featuring gilded portraits alongside the ceremony florals, creating a seamless transition between the events. The Art Deco details of the space added an undeniable elegance to the lush florals, fruit-forward design and vintage-inspired décor. Custom matchboxes featuring a charming coupe glass design were offered to guests to commemorate the unforgettable evening of love. On the following day, the pair finalized their wedding weekend with a traditional Ethiopian celebration, Melse, per Leah's heritage. This special day is devoted to honoring the couple, blessing their marriage and celebrating their new life together. For Allison Herbert and Brent McKnight, it was love at first sight when a mutual friend introduced the two. When planning their wedding, the couple envisioned a celebration that was as timeless and classic as their love story. Inspired by the beauty of garden weddings yet wanting to prioritize their guests’ comfort, they transformed Livestock Exchange Ballroom into the ethereal garden of their dreams. Amid gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows, on a podium surrounded by an abundance of white and green blooms, Allison and Brent became husband and wife. The aisle to the ceremony was lined with votives, casting a warm, magical glow over the space. Effortlessly elegant, the groom and his groomsmen looked dapper in black tuxedos while bridesmaids donned varying styles of black gowns. Allison was a vision in her strapless, lace gown, which beautifully contrasted with the rest of the wedding party. Continuing with the black-and-white color scheme, the reception was chic, with centerpieces featuring votives of differing sizes and a king's table adorned with candle displays reaching up to four feet tall. Delicate black satin bows graced the stems of small candles, encircled by petite blooms that added a soft, feminine touch. Personal details filled the evening, including an espresso martini ice luge—the bride’s signature cocktail.
