PRETTY IN PINK From Taylor Swift’s and Beyonce’s momentous tours to the beloved Barbie movie, this has been the year of the woman. Nothing says that more than the influx of blue and pink—in every shade and detail—taking center stage in this issue. After years of neutral color palettes reigning supreme, bright pinks and soft blues are whispering their way into weddings. Historically, these shades have been regular guests at the table, but these days they are making an entrance in bold and creative ways. Take a peek at the beautiful magentas in the Marie Antoinette–meets-Barbie wedding design on page 52 and the gracefully feminine blushes on page 28. And oh! BLUSHING BEAUTY This delicate blush-focused design by Reneille-Gian Velez of Gian Events was inspired by the location of the shoot, Hotel Winters, a luxury countryside oasis nestled near Napa Valley. The boutique hotel features eye-catching modern interiors, most notably a contemporary outdoor stone waterfall, which served as one of the elements of inspiration for the design. Framed by the countryside trees that line the courtyard, the tablescape showcases refined shades of blush in the glassware, cutlery and linens, together with glamorous acrylic pieces like ghost chairs. The waterfall gives movement to the tableau, while varieties of roses in shades of coral, white and pink contribute texture. The bride’s look melds softness and glamour, with her natural hairstyle and makeup paired with a dramatic Grace + Ivory gown, a vision of cascading jeweled lace and sheer fabrics.

FROM THE RUNWAY TO THE AISLE Striking a balance between fashion-forward and classic is an absolute must for your wedding day. After all, no one wants to look back at their wedding photos and ask themselves, “Why did I wear that?” A bride’s style also plays a key role in setting the tone for the day, says wedding planner Jillian Bobinski of Jillian Nicole Events. “The bride is almost always the centerpiece of every wedding. From the time she walks down the aisle to the last song, her fashion and style dictate the overall mood of the event.” One stylish example: Felice and Eli Jacob’s wedding at Orange County’s Rancho Las Lomas. This international couple— Felice is from Hong Kong, and Eli from Bali—made stylish statements from start to finish, mixing high fashion with sentimental moments. “I was looking for a wedding dress I had never seen before, a style that was romantic and detailed, dramatic yet elegant,” says Felice. Kim Kassas’ “Callythia” drop-waist corseted gown was the perfect choice for her walk down the aisle, with its delicate jeweled florals, high slit and sweeping silk taffeta train. Classic accessories, including
Jimmy Choo heels, sheer gloves and her mother’s pearl necklace, imbued the glamorous look with an Audrey Hepburn vibe. After the couple exchanged vows amid an abundance of white roses and blue delphiniums, Felice switched into her second look for the after-party, a whimsical number by Shona Joy, with Valentino Garavani heels. “I was drawn immediately to the pearl patterns and corset shape,” says Felice. “I love water; I’m an ocean girl at heart. The seamless and delicate details of the mermaids and tridents were a perfect resemblance to me.” As the party picked up, the couple kicked off their formal shoes in favor of red and white Jordans with their initials etched on the back—the red accent serving as a token of good fortune, according to Chinese culture. For her something borrowed, Felice donned her aunt’s red fur coat— another nod to her culture, as brides in Hong Kong wear red for luck on their wedding day. —Lara Burnap

TAKE A MOMENT In the past, eloping was typically a clandestine mission. Today, the concept embodies an air of romance, whether the reason for eloping is because of budget concerns or a desire for an intimate setting. In Amahlia McManus and Michael Midling’s case, the idea of an elopement began with the longing for a romantic photo shoot. Since they were planning a grand wedding overseas, they wanted this quiet moment to create intimate memories as well as tangible keepsakes. Thus, they envisioned an elopement-inspired photo shoot that would provide both. After enlisting their friend and wedding planner Candice Yen of Milk Events, the photo shoot evolved into a beautifully designed and intimate celebration at the villa at Sunstone Winery, which lies nestled in the picturesque Santa Ynez Valley. The location was ideal because Amahlia and Michael had frequented the winery many times while dating, and Michael hails from nearby Santa Barbara. A whimsical palette of pink, pale yellows, lavender and baby blues was reflected in lovely florals tucked in baskets, creating a picnic-style, alfresco atmosphere. The ceremony, shared only with Amahlia and Michael’s closest loved ones, was brimming with emotion. To showcase both the breathtaking backdrop and the couple, the ceremony featured a low garden-style floral arrangement. Texture was front and center in every detail, from the three-dimensional petals adorning Amahlia’s gown to the petite ruffled cake. At dinner, guests dined beneath arches of greenery, a design inspired by the ivy growing on the villa’s walls. —Lara Burnap

HOW TO WRITE AND DELIVER A KILLER RECEPTION SPEECH 1. Keep it positive, short and loving. “The point is to honor the couple, not start your comedy career,” Franklin says. Nix any potentially embarrassing or inappropriate jokes, and address both partners. “If you don’t have something nice to say about the fiancé [or fiancée], or you don’t know them, talk about the way you know they love each other or any positive changes you’ve seen or can come up with. Never go negative.”
2. Aim for a toast that’s less than four minutes long, about three to four is ideal. “Any longer and you really challenge people’s (increasingly short) attention spans,” Franklin cautions. Plus, you could potentially really screw up the wedding timeline by going over your time limit, “which can lead to cold food and/or less time to dance or socialize.” Practice reading the speech out loud with a timer a few times to get a good idea of the length and to get familiar with it so that it sounds more conversational than just reading it.
3. Print in large font—big enough to see in dim light when held at the level of your navel. Don’t try to read your speech from your phone; it’s not a good look for the wedding photos, and it’s easy to lose your place. “And if it’s at night, you’ll get that spooky ‘flashlight under the chin’ look,” notes Franklin. And don’t try to memorize it or wing it. You’ll end up rambling and sounding unprepared.
4. It’s OK to cry—let it out! “This is an emotional night, and showing your emotion will only increase the potency of your speech,” says Franklin. And it makes for amazing photos and videos. “That said, as you practice it out loud, it will go a long way towards taking a bit of the sting out of the words and making it easier for you to get through it.”

When it comes to writing the speech, Franklin suggests beginning with the following structure: 1. Greeting 2. Intro to the partner you know best 3. What you love about their fiancé or fiancée 4. Toast! “You’ll want to avoid jokes or comments that might throw the couple or the audience out of the mood, and/or inside jokes that won’t be understood,” he adds.

Couples often find themselves at a loss about how to calculate the cost and which vendors should be tipped—and are dismayed to discover on the day of the wedding that their budget just increased. To prepare, think of situations where you would normally include a tip, such as a haircut or dinner out. So it stands to reason that these businesses also are on the list for a gratuity. Along with tipping your hair stylist and caterer, the pros suggest

And don’t forget each vendor’s staff as well: the servers with your caterer, the second shooter with the photographer, additional makeup and hair artists for bridesmaids and so on. If cash feels too impersonal for the fabulous job, consider opting for a meaningful gift of comparable value. TWO OF A KIND A PERFECT MARRIAGE OF AN INTIMATE AFFAIR AND AN ALL-OUT BASH

Love begets love, and then it doubles. Lauren and Jacob Clark’s different but complementary hosting styles guided them to throw not one, but two extraordinary celebrations that showcased their individualism and shared joy. This decision stemmed from their distinct preferences: Jacob wanted a grand celebration with all their friends and family in attendance, while Lauren desired a more private, spiritual ceremony. Striking a harmonious balance, they chose to have one intimate event and one sumptuous party at Higuera Ranch in San Luis Obispo. Their vision for the first wedding was crystal clear: to embrace classic wedding traditions in a romantic and whimsical affair designed with a vibrant summer palette. Higuera Ranch’s serene gardens were the setting for the ceremony, with the pair’s nearest and dearest in attendance. An elegant candlelit dinner followed. On the following day, the newlyweds’ second, larger celebration reflected their fun-loving personalities as well as their respect for family traditions. This time, Lauren and Jacob chose a boho-chic-meets-ranch-style wedding. The result was nothing short of a master class in color. The extended soirée—which included a welcome hour, a ceremony under a storied fig tree, a longer cocktail hour and myriad activities—was charming and picturesque. Vows exchanged, Lauren and Jacob proceeded up the aisle as guests showered them with flower petals. Cocktail hour on a sprawling lawn allowed everyone to savor the day’s festivities, play games and enjoy specialty cocktails. BEAUTY & THE MUSE Inspiration can come from just about anywhere when choosing a color palette, and thinking outside the box can result in magic. These three weddings prove that all ideas are fair game; from candy and toys to history and music, these examples demonstrate the cohesive nature of choosing a theme for your wedding design.
HISTORICALLY YOURS This intimate and dreamy wedding was designed with one vision in mind: Malibu Barbie meets Marie Antoinette. First and foremost, it was important for Tayler Danay and Shelby Hart, as a queer couple, to stay true to their identities, both as individuals and as a couple. The brief from the brides was clear, says wedding planner Christine Garrison of CMG Weddings & Events: “Go big, go pink or go home.” Tayler, a wedding photographer, entrusted Garrison to unite her love of Barbie pinks and Old World European styling while keeping the overall vibe laidback and loving. The Baroque-inspired table décor featured gold candelabras covered in flowers, stacks of pink books and statuary under cloches, flowers and pink tulle butterflies, as well as étagères displaying pink macaroons and petits fours. Another standout detail were the scrolled name cards and notes that read “Let Them Eat Cake.” The couple’s fashion choices were the icing on the pink cake, with Tay’s beautiful baby pink tulle veil lined with fresh flowers and Shelby’s handmade bloom-adorned lapel.

CANDY COUTURE The bright and juicy hues of Starburst candies were the design inspiration for a wedding celebrated at Oak Grove Ranch in Thousand Oaks. Deanna Nash Events and XO Bloom incorporated playful tones of red, orange, yellow and pink, turning the rustic wooded venue into a whimsical garden. Charmingly beautiful details enhanced the design even further, including the simple white cake nestled in a meadow of blooms, sweet buds gracing the bride’s hair and a delicate butterfly place card adorning each place setting.

VIVA FRIDA Frida Kahlo, a painter known for her self-portraits and artwork inspired by her native Mexico, was the muse for this design by Mark Dillon Luna Events. New World details melded with the influence of Kahlo’s Mexican heritage through the vibrant flowers in shades of yellow, orange and red, with black accents. The setting of the ceremony featured an asymmetrical arch of bright blooms accented with Talavera tiles. And of course, no homage to Kahlo would be complete without a stunning floral headdress, which the painter often wore in her self-portraits.

“The great thing about a wedding cake is that it can be a moment in and of itself, a commissioned work of art,” says Kimberly Bailey, artist and owner of the renowned cake studio THE BUTTER END (@butterend) in Los Angeles. Bailey opened her business 13 years ago and has been a regular on Food Network as both a judge and featured talent. She and her small team of artisans specialize in bespoke

This tasty piece of contemporary art is textured with wafer and rice paper, and balanced asymmetrically on a custom (real) rock plateau.

confections that range from chic two-tiered buttercream beauties to grand works of art. No matter the design, the main ingredient in every cake is the client. “For me, the design process is about finding out who they are as a couple and what is the vibe of the event,” says Bailey. Consequently, a tasting with The Butter End is also a collaborative session during which Bailey discovers what makes each person unique. “Any decent cake decorator can replicate a cake from a photo on Instagram or Pinterest,” explains Bailey. “At The Butter End, you have the opportunity to design a custom work of art.” And inspiration can come in any form: art, architecture, bridal dress lace, wedding mood boards, the invitation and more. Says Bailey, “I want to learn your style, your humor, your vision.”

The bride, who is an artist, created a floral watercolor that was used for the invitation and throughout the wedding. “As soon as I saw her art, I envisioned a two-dimensional watercolor design that came to life as if the flowers were growing out of the cake in the form of realistic sugar flowers,” says Bailey. “The base of the cake is a deep green moss made of sugar, and every petal is handcrafted.”
This design was inspired by a butterfly sculpture that is a well-known piece of art in the clients’ Laguna Beach home. Because they were getting married at their residence, the couple envisioned the artwork being incorporated into their cake. Bailey took inspiration from the home’s clean, modern lines and textured, white-tiled walls to create a tall, narrow cake with an etched face. The butterfly adornments were handmade with tempered chocolate and given a patina finish.

Not many properties have both unique landscapes, so I wanted to lean into that.” Her vision, captured by Jillian Rose Photography, took advantage of Grand View’s beautiful attributes, such as the gorgeous balcony overlooking the canyon and the estate’s natural colors. “We did tones of clay, earth and shell to complement the space,” says Buczkowski. “There are beautiful wildflowers growing up the winding road to the venue, so it felt essential to choose a lush, natural floral aesthetic.”

One of the oldest church structures in the area, it was built in 1913 by famous local architect Elmer Grey, who also designed the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Pasadena Playhouse and Caltech. Romance blooms in this European-inspired design at Tuscan Rose Ranch, a garden venue nestled in the heart of the rustic Heritage Valley, an agricultural region located between Los Angeles and the beaches of Ventura County. “My vision was built on the beauty of Tuscan Rose Ranch,” says Anita Kanellis of AK Brides, “the gardens, textured pathways and walls, and the vineyard filled with grapes heavy with growth.” The 72-acre flower farm’s verdant grounds— featuring olive trees, Italian cypress, fragrant lavender and white rose bushes— provided an ethereal backdrop to this airy, floral-filled dream. “I love the soft romance of light and bright color palettes,” says Kanellis. “Adding a tablescape in the middle of what was already beautiful created a gorgeous dream.”

Keeping sustainability in mind, Alberto Castaneda, owner of both Tuscan Rose Ranch and Stemmed Floral & Event Design, gathered the flowers—dahlias, lisianthus, stock and delphiniums—from his family’s farm. “Floral design is in my blood,” says Castaneda. “I began creating and selling flower arrangements with my grandmother (for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, etc.) on Wells Road in Ventura.” For this event design, Castaneda envisioned the grounds of a French chateau and incorporated touches of blue, evoking the feeling of a summer soiree in the south of France.

Sadie Bee and Tyler Lough’s seemingly effortless Vogue-influenced celebration was also inspired by the beauty of a Spanish sunset: Shades of citrus yellow deepened into terra-cotta pinks, dusty peaches and burnt sienna oranges. Juxtaposed with these dazzling sunset hues were accents of black and touches of Old World elegance from details such as the Ginori 1735 “Babele” black plates and the intricately etched glassware. The private Spanish-style villa overlooks the orchards surrounding it and the majestic Ojai California Valley beyond. Throughout the villa, shades of lemon and orange, terracotta tile and adobe shone like the wedding’s sunset-themed décor, but the venue wasn’t the only thing that glowed. Sadie’s Monique Lhuillier gown and cathedral-length, elaborately laced veil paid homage to the Spanish heritage permeating the beautiful day. When Sadie changed into her Sareh Nouri gown with its high-to-low hemline, the beautiful bride sealed the union of tradition and modernity that characterized the dreamy affair. —Nicole Wu

Jari Jittangonsak and Jeremy Anding said “I do” at La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla amid a blend of old-European glam and seaside whimsy for their spring wedding. The couple initially connected on Hinge, and Jeremy popped the question a year and a half after they had begun dating while on a trip to Cabo. It was important for the duo to keep their engagement short because they wanted to focus on starting a family. Jeremy and Jari share many interests, but for their wedding, they decided to highlight their love of travel, food and gardening. A colorful palette took inspiration from the La Valencia property, which is renowned for its baby pink Mediterranean architecture. Décor and details in shades of peach and pink brought the atmosphere of a homegrown garden to the seaside nuptials, and tablescapes featuring antique gold vessels and compote bowls with airy florals transported guests to Europe. La Valencia’s catering team created mouthwatering bites to acknowledge the couple’s love of cooking and exploring new restaurants, as well as, notably, the career of Jari’s mom, who is a personal Thai chef. The fairytale feeling of the day was complemented by the aura of timeless beauty and classic Hollywood that suffused the florals and reception details. Floral arrangements featured different varieties of roses, ranunculus and spirea branches. Tables were adorned with thick linen napkins and mauve ribbons, and an antique seating chart featuring place cards with custom wax seals added an understated elegance. Warmth and happiness enveloped this genuine celebration of love. —Emily Sweet

Bold hues of orange, gold and pink took center stage at Amanda Rees and Hari Arul’s wedding. The vibrant palette was fitting, given that the couple founded a digital health company called Bold, which was inspired by their experience living with and caring for Amanda’s grandmother. Family and friends play a key role in their relationship, and their wedding brought many of them together for the first time. Amanda and Hari’s nuptials blended Hari’s Indian and Amanda’s Japanese American heritages in a thoughtful celebration that honored both families and cultures. Amanda’s bridesmaids represented this fusion well, with a mix of dress styles that incorporated traditional Indian wear and conventional bridesmaid dresses. The Hindu ceremony featured traditions such as the jaimala, in which the couple exchanges garlands as a symbol of their union and mutual respect; and mangalsutra dharanam, in which the groom fastens a sacred necklace around the bride’s neck as a symbol of their marriage. The celebration really took off at their reception, where one of the highlights was the couple’s Bollywood dance, which they had spent months rehearsing. Not to be outdone, the guests then performed a choreographed dance as well! —Nicole Wu

A little unexpected rain couldn’t wash away the good vibes at Julie Gonzalez and Kaleb Lambeth’s wedding. The couple exchanged their vows at the Scripps Seaside Forum against the backdrop of pristine ocean views and in a setting designed to grant their wish for a refined and intimate celebration— with lots of florals. Julie and Kaleb, who met during their residencies at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, had an unconventional start to their love story. Kaleb recalls meticulously planning their first date to ensure that it was memorable. And memories were certainly captured when at dinner the couple’s appetizer course was interrupted by a cry for help: “Is there a doctor here?” The two quickly jumped into action and from that moment, Julie and Kaleb were a team. A source of inspiration for the couple’s wedding was their sunset engagement on the cliffs of Santorini, and Julie’s happy place—San Diego— served as the perfect setting for a coastal design reminiscent of that island. Against a setting of lush greenery, with airy white florals and unobstructed seaside views, the ceremony took place and was filled with heartfelt love and family traditions. Among them were Kaleb wearing his grandfather’s watch and Julie’s cousin reading a passage. In a nod to Kaleb’s home state of Texas, the reception space featured rustic elements. At the bar, guests could choose between California or Texas drink stirrers to show their state pride. Wooden baskets and accents across the space contributed to the relaxed coastal feel, and white florals echoed the ceremony design across the tablescapes. It was a truly magical day, and despite rain falling moments before the ceremony, clear skies emerged. Some guests even spotted dolphins jumping out of the ocean as Julie took her walk down the aisle. —Emily Sweet

Love, fashion and art converged in Afrika and Anthony’s avant-garde soirée at Vibiana. The Met Gala theme was a natural choice for Afrika, who has been enamored with the event since childhood. Upon seeing planner Lisa Lafferty’s extravagant weddings while watching Selling Sunset, Afrika knew that Lafferty could make her dream a reality. Choosing Vibiana as their venue was a strategic decision. The cathedral-style architecture of Vibiana bears a striking resemblance to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the venue for the Met Gala. Lafferty took inspiration from various designers and style moments to create this fashionable affair. The “ethereal with an edge” ceremony took pages from Dior’s and Chanel’s fashion shows; cocktail hour evoked a Dolce & Gabbana meets Yves Saint Laurent affair with a sexy yet ornate setting. And the reception featured an opulent design composed of mixed metals and mirrored furniture with darker accents of black crocodile and onyx velvet. But perhaps the most notable moment was Afrika and Anthony’s grand entrance down a custom 72-foot stairway very much like the Met Gala’s red carpet, lined with members of the media and paparazzi to give the couple a true star-studded moment. In a heartwarming gesture, Afrika and Anthony asked that donations be made to the Jenesse Center in lieu of traditional wedding gifts. They wanted to keep the focus on love and chose to support Halle Berry’s “What a Little Love Can Do” campaign for the center. —Lara Burnap

Rachel and Orry’s marriage was a long time in the making, from a proposal on the beaches of Malibu after a 17-state road trip to their first dance to the classic Etta James song “At Last.” The couple’s dreamy wedding transported their family and friends to a European-inspired setting in Santa Barbara. Every detail, from the bride’s gown by Spanish design brand Yolancris to the florals and décor, was influenced by the beauty of the Mediterranean coast. The wedding design incorporated bold pinks, muted greens and accents of blue together with natural elements such as the rattan in the light fixtures and chairs. Although rain loomed on their big day (with torrential downpours, no less), Rachel and Orry were still able to tie the knot as planned, outside and atop a bluff overlooking the Pacific. The drizzle that began mid-ceremony didn’t put a damper on their exchange of vows, and fortunately, the downpour held off until after the cocktail hour. With the rain plan in place, dinner was served under a clear tent on Bacara’s terrace, among candles and lush flowers and enveloped by velvet drapes. “The tent created such a cozy, warm atmosphere, and the pictures in this space turned out beautiful,” says Rachel. “I think our favorite part of the day had to be our dinner, because it was just such a beautiful ambiance, and everyone really felt the love.” After the ceremony, Rachel switched her elegant lace bridal gown for a stylish fringed Hervé Léger number, and this dream of a night culminated in a joy-filled celebration on the dance floor. —Nicole Wu

Alexa Gutman and Joe Goldman fell in love surrounded by the sprawling vineyards and Northern Californian beauty of Napa Valley, where they often escaped for weekend getaways from Los Angeles early in their relationship. It was on an overseas trip to France in March 2022 that Joe popped the question, and immediately the couple knew they wanted to set their wedding in the sanctuary of vineyards that was the backdrop to their love story. And Carneros Resort and Spa proved the ideal venue. The design plan presented refined and minimalist elegance, perfect for a couple who prefers neutral shades and timeless décor. The couple brought religious elements into their ceremony to pay homage to their Jewish backgrounds and families. An elegant floral chuppah adorned with white blooms was the focal point of the ceremony, and they drank from both parents’ heirloom kiddush cups. At the close of the ceremony, Joe stomped on a glass, a tradition that symbolizes the fragility and special nature of their relationship. Florals for the entire event followed a monochromatic white theme and featured combinations of roses, hydrangeas, delphinium, scabiosa and calla lilies. In keeping with that color scheme, Alexa walked down the aisle holding a bouquet of lily of the valley, a symbol of happiness and purity. The atmosphere of the post-ceremony dinner was reminiscent of a party at their home, with an emphasis on warmth. The décor featured wooden chairs, off-white accents and chocolate-brown chargers. Later in the evening, Alexa and Joe changed into custom Golden Goose sneakers they had designed on a trip to Italy that featured their wedding date and initials. —Emily Sweet

Katie Driscoll and Kevin Rosen’s wedding was full of iconic Palm Springs details and mid-century modern vibes. As guests walked through the entrance of La Casa at La Quinta Resort & Club, retro Eames chairs were front and center and accented with brightly hued floral arrangements. After the couple tied the knot, the guests gathered at a large statement bar and mingled over cocktails before sitting down to a lovely dinner under a grand canopy with warm lights. Blooms in bold pinks and oranges brought rich color to the contemporary white atmosphere, with palm trees swaying in the background. Each stunning place setting was composed of a crisp white beaded charger, a geometric-patterned napkin, and modern gold and acrylic flatware. Jacqueline and Eric’s wedding was a captivating affair on the sprawling lawn of the Montecito Club, a country club that overlooks the sparkling Pacific Ocean and the city of Santa Barbara. To preserve this stunning view, the couple chose just four of their nearest and dearest to stand up with them. In a unique move, 10 pairs of their closest friends walked down the aisle and were seated in the first two rows. The final two pairs consisted of the groom’s brother and best friend, accompanied by the groom’s sister and the bride’s best friend, who took their place next to the couple. But instead of sea views, on this auspicious day, a thick fog enveloped the surroundings, creating an ethereal atmosphere. A violin quartet accompanied the bride’s walk down the aisle, performing a string version of the couple’s favorite song, Rihanna’s “Stay.” The enchantment continued after the ceremony with a cocktail hour in the club’s Moroccan-inspired Great Room. One of the most memorable moments was when the bride ran into actor Orlando Bloom as he guided his kids to the club’s movie theater, and he took a moment to compliment the bride’s beauty. Dinner took place in the banquet room with sweeping vistas of the golf course. The couple’s vision was simple: abundant drinks, a lively band and an intimate dance floor. Together with their guests, Jacquie and Eric celebrated with nonstop dancing until the evening’s end. When they were eventually asked to leave, the party relocated to State Street via trolley, where the celebration continued late into the night. —Lara Burnap

Tassia Trink and Lauren Fernald hosted an intimate, mid-century modern wedding that teemed with artful elements against a black-and-white backdrop. On a quiet afternoon as golden hour was settling over the desert, close friends and family gathered in the California desert to pay the ultimate homage to the loving couple. “It was a small wedding, and we were surrounded by our favorite people,” says Lauren, beaming. Lauren, a salon owner, chose a wedding-day look that complemented the effortlessly chic aesthetic of the venue: Relaxed waves cascaded down one side of her face, with ethereal makeup and a slightly dramatic eye. Her sweetheart gown included a corset bodice and sheer details that matched her detached sleeves. Tassia matched her beloved’s light curls and donned a suit expertly matched to the location: black fabric paired with studded shoes, a desert-blossom boutonniere and a delicate string tie. Both brides were escorted down the aisle by their daughter, Vivienne, who lovingly refers to Tassia as “bonus mom.” Dinner was served in the courtyard on wooden tables set with black-and-white chargers, gold flatware and custom pink keyring favors on each plate. Small vases held minimalistic arrangements of blooms in taupe, burnt orange, coral and dusty rose, with candles of various heights, shapes and materials flanking each arrangement. The newlyweds were poignant and lighthearted, offering this sage advice to other couples: “Marry your best friend, be silly together and hold hands often.” —Megan Simpson Teeter

In the lush embrace of Hartley Botanica and under the Southern California sun, Alexis and Ben Laroza’s love story blossomed into a vibrant spring celebration. Inspired by the tropical allure of Kauai—where they became engaged—they transformed the botanical venue into their own paradise. The venue came alive with edible fruit décor and a kaleidoscope of exhilarating colors, including a stunning installation of blush-colored jasmine blooms suspended above the aisle. Embracing their Filipino heritage, the couple donned traditional attire and incorporated Filipino customs, including the cord, veil and unity candle tradition, into their nuptials. Bringing some puppy charm to the ceremony, their shiba inu, Flower, shared the role of flower girl with their niece, Emma. To ensure their presence was not missed at cocktail hour, the couple included “fathead” likenesses of themselves with which guests could take silly photos. Fresh coconuts served as escort cards, and Ferrero Rocher “pineapples” added a sweet touch. The bride and groom’s Filipino-American heritage also infused the menu. “Our desserts were leche flan, coconut bibingka and taho (sweet silky tofu). We made a special request that instead of a cake cutting, we had a lechon (roasted pig) cutting,” Alexis explains. Unique details abounded, from signature drinks inspired by their favorite hockey teams to personalized gifts for the bridal party. The day was a testament to the beauty of shared moments. “One of my favorite memories is finding out that our friends or family knew someone else at the wedding from work or hobbies and seeing the new connections made from the good times,” says Alexis. “And seeing all the people I care about on the dance floor!” Alexis says. —Megan Simpson Teeter

Hannah and Ed’s love story began in 2014 on the Arizona State University campus, where their friendship quickly turned into a beautiful relationship. Fast forward to 2023, when the lovely couple celebrated their marriage at the Ironwood Country Club in Palm Desert, surrounded by family and friends. Holding the wedding alfresco under the desert sun proved the ideal setting for the couple, as during their relationship they spent much time in the area visiting Hannah’s father, attending the Coachella festival and enjoying weekend getaways from Orange County. Annette Kirkhuff of Wheat and Honey Events, the bride’s aunt, guided the couple through the wedding planning process and brought their vision of a sophisticated country club garden party to fruition. In honor of Hannah and Ed’s love of food and cooking, and using her impressive expertise, Annette made the couple’s dream of one long table for all 110 guests possible. Through the skill of chef Mark Sickenberger of the Ironwood Country Club, their ideal dinner party menu came to life, featuring seafood gazpacho, salmon Niçoise, steak frites, lemon chicken, and a blood orange and olive oil cake for dessert. As Aperol spritzes and hand-selected wine brought the meal to a close, the newlyweds’ guests began to dance and continued through an evening filled with love and laughter. —Nicole Wu

The underwater beauty of the sea was the theme of Lindsey Taft and Ben Macofsky’s timeless coastal wedding at Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes. Awash in an array of white and ivory blooms, with accents of sweet huckleberry greenery, the floral arrangements at the ceremony imitated vertical coral formations and seaweed, transporting guests to the undersea world. The event design also included objects from the ocean, such as seashells and coral. At the reception, the couple’s heritage was celebrated with the hora, a custom-made watercolor ketubah and the breaking of a glass to symbolize that, under Jewish law, they were entering a covenant to stand by one another, even in hard times. Their enchanting celebration was captured by a painter present at the event to remember the special day. After a joyous evening of dancing (from slow to rave) with their guests, the Macofskys set sail on their journey of marriage and, in the words of Ben, “happy wife, happy life.” —Lexi Braun

Ashley Mireles and Carlos Guerrero tied the knot at The Clovis Castle, which was a dream come true for the bride, who had imagined saying “I do” at the location since she was a teenager. “I even have it pinned on an old ‘Dream Wedding’ Pinterest board,” says Ashley. Alas, it appeared to be a nogo when the venue closed during her senior year of high school. But in a stroke of perfect timing, The Clovis Castle reopened in 2022, and Ashley’s wish became a reality. The couple’s wedding was a beautiful fusion of cultural heritage, personal style and an unwavering love for family and friends. A modern Mexican theme infused the day with bold colors and nontraditional elements, such as the mixed-and-matched colors of the bridesmaids’ dresses and Carlos’ dashing burgundy tuxedo. Meaningful moments were many, including a lasso ceremony to pay tribute to their cultural roots. The tradition, found in both Hispanic Catholic and native cultures, symbolizes the unity of the couple. Chic homages to Mexico included Talavera tiles as place cards and the basket lighting hung over the dance floor. And at the request of the guests, Carlos and Ashley included the money dance, memories of which they now cherish, as it gave them one-on-one time with their guests.
