The best is yet to come

Newly engaged couples, it’s YOUR time to shine! Congratulations on your engagement. We are so excited to be a part of your wedding planning journey, and we can’t wait to share in the coming pages some of the hottest trends, incredible wedding professionals and décor inspiration.

As you start to plan your big day, there is so much to think about. I loved hearing and sharing stories from the years when I planned and executed weddings, and the one piece of advice I want to share with you is: invest in a planner, in any capacity, if you can! You won’t regret it.

As you see the beauty and inspiration throughout our magazine, note that most of the time behind the scenes was a planner who executed the event flawlessly and helped the entire team of vendors successfully do their part. A perfect example is Chelsea Gaytan of Black Tie Optional Event Planning, who planned and led the charge on our beautiful styled shoot “An Elevated Affair” (page 30).

Now, the moment we’ve been waiting for: it’s time to share the winners and finalists of Arizona Bride ’s Best of 2023. These are the wedding professionals chosen by you, our readers, and other industry professionals as the best of the best Arizona has to offer.

I want to thank everyone nominated for sharing your talents, products and incredible skills, and congratulate the winners for their outstanding work. YOU are the leaders and visionaries of the Arizona wedding community. THANK YOU! Turn to page 25 to see the full list of nominees and winners.

Thank you again for allowing us into this special time in your lives.

Cheers!

Wrigley Mansion, a breathtaking landmark originally constructed in 1932 by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr., was thoughtfully designed as a 50th-anniversary gift to his beloved wife, Ada. Sitting at the top of a hill, The Mansion commands the most dramatic views in Phoenix, showcasing the mountains and the city below. Its architecture includes curated elements of Spanish, California Monterey, and Mediterranean styles. Original tiles still grace The Mansion, having been shipped from the Wrigley family’s tile factory on Catalina Island and carted up the hill by donkey. Once sold by the Wrigley family in 1973, it changed hands several times. In 1992, as the city of Phoenix was planning to tear it down to make room for condos, the late Geordie Hormel and his wife, Jamie, fell in love with the property and purchased it.

COLOR THE DESERT

“Colorful weddings are not a ‘new’ concept, but colorful weddings in dry desert scenery aren’t super common—not yet, at least,” says Lana Robinson of Let’s Bash Events. When approaching this photo shoot in Scottsdale, an “A-Team” of vendors sought to juxtapose the natural beauty of the desert with bold, bright colors. The palette revolved mainly around lavender with creams, pinks and salmon peppered in, as displayed in a fun stationery suite with scalloped details from Paper and Petals.

White bentwood chairs and low floral arrangements adorned the ceremony setup, allowing the natural landscape of cacti and foliage to frame the space. A midcentury modern lounge perpetuated the cool mood, as well as a stunning cake display, which featured a master class confection with accordion detailing that echoed the design of the fluted pedestal table and lounge furniture. The bar and sweetheart table, both swathed in florals, added to the romance and splendor of the design scheme—as did the Champagne tower. Who doesn’t love a pour-over moment? For the reception, light, airy florals and pastel tapered candles lined the table, along with fluffy lavender knotted napkins, modern flatware and scalloped menus in a punchy hue. “We hope to see way more pops of color in the coming months,” says Robinson, “especially in the desert.” —Chelsea

JUST FOR TWO

For many couples, the idea of ditching a large wedding for an intimate elopement somewhere off the beaten path is all too tempting.

Running off into the desert sunset to declare their love sans guest list was exactly what Sarah Starsky and Eric Bull had in mind—at first. But like many to-be-weds, the pair ultimately decided that being surrounded by their closest friends and family was what mattered. Thanks to a supportive team of wedding professionals, the pair didn’t have to give up the intimate “I do’s.” Instead, they got the best of both worlds with a private elopement-style vow exchange in Apache Junction followed by a traditional larger wedding.

A few weeks before their golf course affair, Sarah and Eric suited up for what was initially an adventure shoot with Chris Smith of Sufo Films. “They got this idea to do a private vow exchange before their wedding day, just for them, and the dress she wore was what she wanted to wear if she eloped,” Smith said. “It was simply perfect.” Sarah paired her dream gown (before multiple outfit changes) with soft glam and a peachy bouquet by Garden Gate Flowers.

Originally eyeing Sedona as a backdrop for the session, the crew changed course to the Valley at Superstition Mountains in response to an unusually chilly Arizona spring day. Not only did they gain 20 degrees, but the last-minute location swap also positioned them in a fully bloomed field near the mountains. Beautifully photographed by Kelly Birch Photography, Sarah and Eric read their hand-written vows (the same vows that would later be shared at their wedding) and took a spin in a luxe white Porsche. —Mackenzie Sylvester

FIESTA TIME

When Erin Jarvis and Jake Cotta were planning their February wedding, they looked forward to welcoming guests from out of town and wanted to share their favorite things about the Phoenix they’ve come to know.

The fun-loving couple wanted a playful, unforgettable experience that combined two of their shared interests: vinyl records and Mexican food. And Justine Fritz of Justine Fritz Weddings knew just how to bring those elements together in a rehearsal dinner with a lively Mexican theme at The Icehouse.

“We designed with an abundance of texture through fabulous clay and rattan elements,” Fritz said, “[including] collected and curated décor and lounge items that were reminiscent of 1990s Tex-Mex and southwestern décor.” Vinyl records also found their way into some of the tablescapes.

Wooden bistro chairs and sweetheart tables created a rustic feel, accented with colorful, bold bouquets of orange, red and coral flowers and greenery, and royal blue napkins and table linens. Lounge furniture throughout the venue maintained the royal blue and golden color scheme, and provided a space to kick back and relax before the big event the next day.

RAIN OR SHINE

If you wake up to rain on your wedding day, don’t panic—we’re here to tell you that there are some major bright sides to overcast, wet weather. According to many cultures, rain is good luck on your wedding day, a symbol of cleansing and fertility for the newly wed couple. It’s also thought that rain symbolizes the last tears the bride will shed for the rest of her life.

But perhaps the biggest blessing of a rainy wedding day is that it produces the best lighting for photos. Take this gorgeous elopement shoot from Liv + Remember Creative Company, which gives off mercurial, romantic and organic vibes all at once.

“Overcast weather is truly one of my favorite times to shoot—the soft, diffused light creates dreamy and moody photos that often can’t be replicated with any other weather,” says owner and lead photographer Olivia Simon.

“The different weather elements (even rain) encourage me to allow nature to be a big collaborator in the creative process. Embrace whatever weather is on the radar for your session; rain or shine, it will be worth it!”

So no matter what your special day has in store for you, focus on your love, and remember that nothing can rain on your parade. —Chelsea Gibson

Legendary bridal designer Pnina Tornai is turning her talents to a bride’s finishing touch: shoes. Created in collaboration with Naturalizer, her debut shoe collection, Pnina Tornai for Naturalizer, combines couture and comfort. “When I saw the quality of the shoes and felt how comfortable they are, I knew instantly that that was the feeling I wanted to share with my brides around the world,” says Tornai of her partnership with the iconic comfort-footwear company. The high-fashion shoe line features details such as voluptuous bows, crystal embellishments and delicate laces—with the sole of each shoe featuring a handwritten message from Tornai. The silk shoes are available in a variety of colors, from bridal white to black, champagne, silver, rose gold and even a bold pink. And with Naturalizer’s attention to comfort and fit, Pnina Tornai heels are sure to be an all-day affair, from the aisle to the last dance.

SOLE MATES GARDENS & GRAZE

Food and flowers make every event (and just about everything) better, something Taylor Dave and Dawn Davis knew when they met and started their business, Gardens & Graze. A combination of “flower babe” Dave’s floral skills and “charcuterie queen” Davis’s gastronomic works of art, the duo brings something special to any occasion, from bridal showers to rehearsal dinners, weddings and beyond. Experience, energy and entrepreneurial spirit are hallmarks of their business, and wowing guests with curated charcuterie trays woven within unique floral arrangements is the result. SUPER BLOOM

AN INTIMATE MID-SPRING WEDDING AT A PRIVATE NORTH SCOTTSDALE ESTATE WAS GROUNDED WITH EVERYTHING THAT IS BOLD AND WILD, ORGANIC AND BEAUTIFUL

Cat and Nic are a down-to-earth couple who exude a pure, contagious joy. “They spend their time exploring national parks and hiking together, so their love for that was brought into the vision for their wedding,” said florist Megan McManus of Fleur de Vie Studio. The couple pictured an eclectic aesthetic of desert and sunset hues and a sense of wildness and whimsy. Enveloped in mountain views, Cat’s family estate became the oasis the couple had been dreaming of.

Fleur de Vie filled the backyard of lush trees and flowering shrubs with bright colors, earthy elements, organically designed wildflower displays and meadowstyle installations—namely the welcome sign and ceremony nest. The nest, which was repurposed at the reception to adorn the sweetheart table, created a sunset gradient from yellow to peach to hot pink to lavender, matching the design of the brilliantly wild bridal bouquet.

“The bouquet was full of abundance, texture, movement and bright, beautiful blooms,” said McManus. To maximize the carefree feel, the team chose a wealth of “floaty” blooms to dance as the wind blew. The arrangements offered an array of unique, in-season flora, featuring dahlias, ranunculus, snap dragon, chamomile and Queen Anne’s Lace.

Cat and Nic also incorporated their collection of rocks from their various adventures for a sentimental touch and an added nod to Mother Earth. “Our thought was to give our friends and family a part of our history and have them put their love, energy and wishes into these rocks during our ceremony,” said Cat, “so we would then be able to have these rocks with us as we go throughout our life and marriage.”

WEDDING DICTIONARY

CUTTING CAKE: If an enormous wedding cake to feed the entire guest count isn’t a priority or in the budget, a small “cutting cake” is often created specifically for the cakecutting tradition. This route is usually chosen when couples want the ceremonial moment but plan to serve a different type of dessert or cake to guests.

FIRST LOOK: This is an opportunity to privately (with or without the photographer) see your significant other for the first time on your wedding day, before the ceremony. “The purpose is to create an intimate experience for the couple and a private moment of connection before the day flows into a whirlwind of wedding day formalities,” says photographer Kelly Birch of Kelly Birch Photography. This moment often includes the exchange of private vows or letters and creates a beat to snap photos in a “relaxed environment while the attire, hair and makeup are still fresh.”

FIRST TOUCH: Less common than the first look, but equally special. Birch adds, “It has similar intentions as the first look to create a private, intimate and often emotion-filled moment without seeing each other fully dressed before the ceremony. It usually includes the same exchange of vows or letters, holding hands back to back or around a corner.”

FLORAL INSTALLATION:

“A floral arrangement that lives on a wall, on a ceiling, or anywhere else outside of a vase,” explains Malori Maeva, owner of Form Floral. “These designs feel like they sprouted out of the ground and are usually the ‘wow’ of your wedding day.”

GOLDEN HOUR: Refers to the hour before sunset when the light is just right. “Golden hour is such ideal lighting that it should be considered when determining timing of the ceremony and cocktail hour,” says Paige Robertson of Front Paige Events.

INVITATION SUITE: This encompasses the package of paper goods that comes with your invitations. “It is the first thing that your guests see in relation to your wedding,” says Lauren Hamelin of Lauren Yvonne Design. “It should reflect who you are as a couple, so that when your guests open the envelope, they know who it is from even before they read the names on the invitation.”

LAST DANCE: Couples are generally so busy on their wedding days,

22 | ARIZONA BRIDE azbridemag.com PORTFOLIO Wedding Planning
A GUIDE TO ALL THE TERMINOLOGY YOU’LL ENCOUNTER WHEN PLANNING YOUR DAY PHOTOS BY (CLOCKWISE FROM UPPER RIGHT) JANE IN THE WOODS, MELISSA IVY PHOTOGRAPHY, KELLY BIRCH PHOTOGRAPHY

they often don’t get a chance to just take it all in and be together. Unlike the first dance, when all eyes are on the couple, a last dance offers them a private moment to be together as their wedding day comes to a close, typically before the send-off. The last dance also creates an amazing photo op.

STRIKE: The time when vendors come to break down and pick up materials. Vendors will remove installations after the event. This removal will often need to be scheduled in a staggered manner between vendors, depending on the complexity and size of the event.

STYLED SHOOT: “A styled shoot is a creative collaboration of wedding-day vendors, inspired by specific elements, themes, eras or style,” Birch says. The intention is “to inspire future couples, planners and other industry professionals by showcasing new trends, ideas and creative possibilities many times that push the bounds of the expected.”

TOSS BOUQUET: The bouquet toss leaves wedding bouquets a wilted mess—not ideal for preservation. Florists will usually create a separate toss bouquet, which is a smaller arrangement fashioned specifically for the tradition, leaving the bridal bouquet intact to preserve.

VENDOR MEALS: These are the meals provided for the wedding vendors at the event. From the production team to the musicians, photographers, videographers, florists and others, it’s a nice gesture (and expected) to feed the wedding vendors throughout the entire wedding day.

BEST BOUQUETS FLORALS BY KENDRA (@floraksbykenda)

Florist Kendra Beelen remembers chatting with bride Jillian about her plan to have her bridesmaids wear their dresses of choice to feel comfortable and true to themselves. That sparked an idea to stick with the mismatched trend and make each bridesmaid’s bouquet different, using one type of flower that was present in the bridal bouquet and other floral details. Each bridesmaid chose the bouquet they were naturally drawn to and looked best with their dress.

Jesse Stanton of Freja Creative leaned into this adventureloving couple’s passion for nature with line drawings of mountainscapes and nods to Sedona’s night sky. BEST STYLE KAYSIA AND RYAN BAYSTER

For their wedding at a private residence in Scottsdale, Kaysia and Ryan Bayster opted for a modern-yet-timeless look, from the florals to the fashion. Bridesmaids wore champagne Show Me Your Mumu dresses, while the groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos. Kaysia was glowing in a sleek Grace Loves Lace number with a T-back and a chic updo, and Jimmy Choo heels finished her bridal style. Ryan was handsome in a Prada suit from Suit Supply. ELEVATED AFFAIR

SWEEPING VIEWS, IMPECCABLE DESIGN AND ROMANTIC FASHION UNITE IN A REFINED SETTING IN SEDONA

Planning & Design: Chelsea Gaytan, Black Tie Optional Wedding Planning

Photography: Carmela Joy Photography

Location: Venue on the Mesa by Open Venues

Text: Chelsea Gibson

When initially brainstorming this shoot, Chelsea Gaytan of Black Tie Optional Wedding Planning looked to recent trends to see what the future might hold. She noticed a correlation to certain decades over the past few years, starting with bohemian ’60s flair and moving to funk-infused designs and disco balls from the ’70s. So, she instantly knew she wanted to go ’80s with this design scheme in Sedona.

“But what did that mean exactly?” Gaytan asked herself. “I knew I wanted to use this idea of ‘bigger,’ but make it very now, super elevated [and] a fun twist instead of a literal translation of the decade.” She also noted that this notion of “bigger” was present in a larger shift in wedding culture post-pandemic—from two years of downsized weddings and cutting guest lists, to bigger, blown-out affairs again.

“Once we found the perfect location, the theme of the shoot became crystal clear: ‘ELEVATE,’” Gaytan said. “We were high above the hustle and bustle of downtown Sedona, which was a physical elevation, but I also wanted to prove that you can have an extremely elevated design in an unexpected location.”

ARIZONA BRIDE azbridemag.com | 31

When it came to outfitting the bride and groom, classic fashion choices stole the show—looks that never go out of style, no matter the decade. The bride’s first gown by Morilee recalled ’80s vibes with off-the-shoulder textured sleeves and a sleek A-line silhouette. Drop earrings and a simple yet statement-making necklace from Très Jolie Jewelry Rentals paired with a sleek center-part bun to highlight the off-the-shoulder neckline. The groom was ever the dapper counterpart, donning a smart three-piece black tuxedo with a satin lapel and tie. Fun fact: This new tuxedo pant from Nick’s Menswear doesn’t have a satin stripe down the leg, so it can be worn again and again.

An impressive stationery suite from Copper Cactus Design incorporated black and beige elements, tying in the same print on the envelope liner that would be used on the grand aisle.

Opposite page: For the wow-worthy ceremony aisle, Divinity Event Productions printed a sepia photo of roses that pulled in the palette of the surrounding mountains. The space was framed by black chairs and organic floral arrangements that melted into the natural scenery.

32 | ARIZONA BRIDE azbridemag.com

I’m particularly proud of the PRINTED AISLE we created. I had never seen anyone create a CUSTOM aisle with an enlarged print before, and I thought it would be the over-the-top piece we’d need to really nail the MAXIMALISM vibe.

My personal FAVORITE detail was the sophisticated bar with chandeliers... out in the MIDDLE of the desert!
Chelsea Gaytan, Black Tie Optional Wedding Planning

For the couple’s second look, the bride wore a romantic, airy gown with a sweetheart neckline and puffed sleeves from Allure Bridals. The groom swapped his necktie for a traditional bow tie.

Amour de Sucre created a masterful six-tier confection that served as the perfect backdrop for a Champagne-popping moment.

Opposite page: As if it weren’t already everyone’s favorite place to be at the wedding reception, this clean white bar upped the ante with black shelving, crystal chandeliers, gorgeous glassware, a cute cocktail menu and cascading florals.

ARIZONA BRIDE azbridemag.com | 35
36 | ARIZONA BRIDE azbridemag.com
The intimate reception tables were arranged in a serpentine shape, complete with a lush floral table runner, hurricane lanterns with endless candles and pops of black. The entire scene sat beneath a dreamy twinkle tent from Divinity Event Productions, which took the party from golden hour to after hours.

Every single piece of this shoot—from the stunning floral to the LAVISH jewelry to the mind-blowing outfit change—turned out even better than I could have imagined! It’s pretty EXTRAORDINARY to be able to share your design vision with an incredibly talented team of vendors, and then give them the CREATIVE FREEDOM to make it happen in their own way.

AS GOOD AS IT GETS

THREE DIFFERENT DESIGNS SHOWCASE THE BEAUTY AND VERSATILITY OF ONE OF ARIZONA’S MOST ICONIC WEDDING VENUES, EL CHORRO

Text by Chelsea Gibson

Nestled between Scottsdale and Phoenix at the base of the Camelback and Mummy Mountains sits El Chorro, an iconic venue that’s been serving up memorable experiences since the 1930s. What was originally established as a school for girls in 1934 has been renovated and transformed into a romantic, timeless and quintessential desert setting that specializes in spectacular local and seasonal cuisine. El Chorro offers sweeping views, luxurious amenities and a variety of different event spaces to choose from, giving couples the versatility and creative freedom to make their special day truly their own.

For Arala and Kyle, a refined palette of black and cream was on the menu. Because many of their guests traveled from out of state, they wanted to provide a true desert experience. Natural, cascading cream and white florals adorned every nook and cranny of the property; a dreamy candlelit path led to a free-flowing organic ceremony setup complete with modern Lucite chairs; and lounge spaces and food stations added a relaxed yet sophisticated air to the event.

In a completely different approach to décor, this sunny styled shoot at El Chorro leaned into sunshine yellow for every moment—from the monochromatic mini two-tiered cake to the wild climbing ceremony installation, and the asymmetrical swath on the outdoor fireplace with a free-form arrangement on the hearth. A long reception table was topped with bounding blooms in yellows, pinks and peaches. Wishbone chairs added a finishing touch.

For Ally and Zach’s wedding day, color inspiration came from the bright bougainvillea plants abundant throughout El Chorro’s grounds. This fuchsia palette extended to romantic floral arrangements that also incorporated neutrals and pops of zingy oranges and peaches. An epic ceremony aisle and retro western space for dancing were just a couple of details that added charm to this desert dream wedding. The star of the show, in addition to the venue, was the couple’s French Bulldog, Tahini, who made a grand entrance decked out in a custom tuxedo.

WRIGLEY MANSION

2501 E. Telawa Trail, Phoenix, AZ 85016 602.553.7383 | wrigleymansion.com

In 1992, as the city of Phoenix was planning to tear it down to make room for condos, the late Geordie Hormel and his wife, Jamie, fell in love with the property and purchased it

JAMIE & LINDSEY

Married & Celebrated: JAPANESE FRIENDSHIP GARDENS, PHOENIX

Date: JANUARY 29, 2023

When Jamie Nottberg and Lindsey Pinkham met, it was kismet. To start, they met at the gym. Soon they were seeing each other often and discovering just how many things they had in common: total foodies, physically active and wine connoisseurs. Four years after the couple met, they wed in an intimate ceremony at the Japanese Friendship Gardens in downtown Phoenix with only 25 guests. While the soirée was small, they didn’t spare on the details. The top of their wish list? A fine dining experience and a relaxed, easygoing vibe. The reception area was outfitted with comfy sofas, rugs and poufs for lounging, so people could sit back and relax all evening long. To enhance the romantic, ethereal air, strings of fairy lights and candles adorned the reception area. An abundance of dried and natural florals mingled with fluffy pampas grasses in towering arrangements, which added a layer of sophistication throughout the venue. Another highlight of the day was the petite cake—a monochromatic masterpiece with an organic touch of whimsical dried grasses. As day faded to evening, one thing clearly did not fade: the smiles on the couple’s faces. —Sherri

KAYSIA + RYAN

Married & Celebrated: PRIVATE ESTATE, SCOTTSDALE

Date: MARCH 18, 2023

A crisp, classic black and white palette was juxtaposed beautifully against the natural greens at Kaysia Hamilton and Ryan Bayster’s backyard wedding in Scottsdale. The couple opted for simplicity to pair with the minimalist farm-style home, letting the gorgeous landscaping speak for itself. The understated, clean event design featured white florals and baby’s breath (a childhood favorite of the bride) by Fiori Floral Design, luxe black and white signage by Writing On The Walls, Champagne-hued Show Me Your Mumu bridesmaid gowns and sleek black tuxedos. On their first date, the couple went out for sushi—now a weekly date night tradition—that they honored at their nuptials by serving sushi during the cocktail hour and at the reception. The duo also paid homage to the start of their love story with their first dance song, “Sideways” by Citizen Cope featuring Santana. “This song has been part of our relationship from the beginning, and [we] felt the relaxed and smooth vibe fit perfectly for the wedding,” Kaysia shared. A heartfelt prayer by Kaysia’s great-grandfather Reverend Hamilton kicked off the ceremony, officiated by the couple’s best friend. But it was the evening of dancing with their loved ones that was the highlight of the day for the newlyweds.

“We’re not the most talented of dancers, but we had everyone on the floor living up the moment with us,” Kaysia said. —Mackenzie

JILLIAN & DAVID

Married & Celebrated: HERITAGE SQUARE, PHOENIX

Date: APRIL 7, 2023

Arizona natives Jillian Bauman and David Good were fast friends upon meeting at Arizona State University, but it wasn’t until senior year that their relationship got a romantic upgrade. Fast forward six years and the couple found themselves planning their dream outdoor wedding. But instead of a typical Arizona desert backdrop, they envisioned just the opposite: a space bountiful in flowers, bright colors, music and sentiment. The secret garden feel of Heritage Square in Phoenix brought their vision to life. Kendra Beelen of Florals by Kendra doused the event in color with pops of bright peach and pink complemented by pale blues and soft yellows. Both Jillian and David donned a sentimental “something old” for their walk down the aisle: she in the pearl necklace worn by her mother and grandmother on their wedding days, and he in his late grandfather’s bolo tie as a surprise for his grandmother. The bridesmaids sported unique dresses with bouquets following suit, each carrying one of the various blooms found in Jillian’s bouquet and the grand flower arch. Guests were welcomed with Champagne and a quote from a French novelist, while macaron towers replaced a traditional cake—all an homage to the bride’s time living in France. With a passion for music, David hand-selected the first and last dance songs, numbers by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The fun didn’t stop there: The after-party grilled cheese bar fueled guests for endless dancing late into the night.

BEN & SAM

Married & Celebrated: HACIENDA DEL SOL GUEST RANCH RESORT, TUCSON

Date: JANUARY 22, 2023

When planning their nuptials, Sam Wang and Ben Cook envisioned a celebration that would honor their love for each other and their respective cultures. J. Robertson Events and Maria Vo brought their vision to life with a beautiful blend of Chinese and Jewish traditions. “They incorporated a lot of Jewish wedding traditions, as that is very important to both of them,” said Jessica Robertson of J. Robertson Events. From the Lunar New Year-inspired event design as a nod to Sam’s heritage, to Ben’s enthusiastic breaking of the glass upon saying their “I do’s” under the chuppah, their wedding couldn’t have been a more joyful and sincere representation of who they are as a couple. “They are fun, genuine and truly great gentlemen, and that definitely came across in every piece of the day,” Robertson said. A warm palette of bold and bright reds, pinks, oranges and peaches infused the design and the abundant flower installations. “They got married under the chuppah and the [floral] colors were very celebratory and inspired by Chinese culture,” noted Dusty Reed, owner and floral designer of Element Design & Events. The day was brimming with love and laughter—and even a few tears as the pair shared their heartfelt vows with each other and their loved ones.

MIA & DAVID

Married & Celebrated: AGAVE OF SEDONA

Date: FEBRUARY 4, 2023

Sedona is considered one of the most healing and mystical places in the world, so it’s little surprise that Mia Frenkel and David Williams’s first trip to the magical destination as a couple would draw them back to it as the stage for their nuptials. The classic, inviting ceremony space of Agave Sedona showed off on their wedding day, with surrounding views of sun-drenched, snowcapped mountains and a simultaneously visible moon, complemented by a floral arch of reds, pinks, oranges and blues by Mountain High Flowers. “Every single decision that we made was intentional and helped express who we are as a couple,” Mia said. Both animal lovers, the pair incorporated their rescue pets with signature cocktails: An old fashioned called “The Pumba” for their Himalayan cat and an Aperol spritz coined “The Josie” for their greyhound. With a shared affinity for color and an especially soft spot for blue, Mia and David added splashes of the hue in various shades throughout the day, including David’s own bowtie, and the table linens by BBJ La Tavola. “We wanted to do something different from the classic ‘all white’ wedding scheme,” noted Mia. Lively pops of color from the desert landscape inspired the textured and organic floral arrangements of roses, ranunculus, anemones and silver dollar eucalyptus. The foodie-approved menu featured pesto-crusted mahi, summer strawberry bruschetta, and brown butter and scallion smashed potatoes, with a Sedona Bakery cake of half cinnamon sugar cookie, half vanilla caramel ribbon for dessert. DJ Dave expertly mixed the couple’s wide range of musical tastes to keep the party going all night long. —Mackenzie

CARLIE & JEREMY

Married: PHOENIX CITY HALL

Celebrated: ROUGH RIDER

Date: APRIL 8, 2023

Sometimes the biggest smiles show up at the smallest weddings. Carlie Rouse and Jeremy Deadman are proof. The couple decided on a very intimate courthouse wedding at City Hall in Phoenix with only a couple of their closest friends in attendance. Their nontraditional wedding was something out of the ordinary for Carlie, a professional wedding planner. Despite it being a small celebration, the couple included many intentional details. Carlie wore a short, strapless white dress from BHLDN with a flirty and fun white bow as well as a veil with pearl details, also from Anthropologie’s BHLDN line. She carried a bouquet created by Allison of Array Design. The couple’s custom rings were designed by Brent at House of Diamonds, and Nataliya, owner of Le Beige Beauty, did Carlie’s hair and makeup. After their nuptials and a whirlwind of photo-taking, the couple headed off to celebrate at local speakeasy Rough Rider, where photographer Heidi Elyse captured more memories, this time of Carlie and Jeremy diving into their custom heart-shaped cake from aBakeshop while they sipped old fashioneds. —Sherri Hildebrandt
