CAN ORGANIC ACID METABOLITES BE USED AS POTENTIAL BIOMARKERS

Metabolism is a chemical reaction or process of breaking down organic compounds in a cell to provide energy for vital functions. It takes place with the help of a catalyst. During this process, some intermediate products are formed. Those are called metabolites. Metabolites are of two types. They are primary metabolites and secondary metabolites. 1. Primary metabolites : They are metabolites that are essential for metabolism. Amino acids, alcohols, vitamins, organic acids are some of the Primary metabolites that are involved in proper cell function and growth. 2. Secondary metabolites: These are not involved in the primary metabolic processes. They help make dyes, fragrances, pigments, and additives. They have industrial applications in the agriculture and pharmaceutical fields.
