On basis of relative ranking by 20 experts, top 30 designs was selected from 60 motif and designs, among 30 designs , 20 placement was further developed and used for the preparation of door hanging through hand painting. Data on percentage distribution by panel members for suitability of design placements for door hanging revealed that placement code no. 12,5, 14, 9 and 1 got highest ranking i.e. 80%, 78%, 74%, 72%, 70% respectively (figure 2).Highest (80%) percentage was found for placement code no. 12 whereas; lowest (70%) percentage was observed for placement code no 1. It is concluded that all 5 designs of door hanging developed using motif/ design obtain Sahastrabahu Temple were very innovative , creative and distinctive in terms of designs and highly acceptable by panel members. INTRODUCTION
Indian art and history has given a rich storage of traditional painting in India sub-continent from prehistory to present time. The Indian folk arts with painting play important role in creating new designs. Escalating demands of consumers requires modification in the fashion industry with respect to design, color, style and technique (Gupta Dr. Mohini and Gangwar Swati,2016).The style of painting differs from region to region and period to period. Folk art is such a form of art which is associated to common man. India has always been known as the land that portrays cultures and traditional vibrancy through its conventional art and craft. Its rich heritage of tradition is reflected in many aspects such as art, costumes, textiles and embroideries of various region of country. Each state of India has its own tradition and legacy of traditional folk art and craft. Indian arts and crafts encompass various forms such as painting, pottery, home decorations, cloth making, needle craft, jewelry and so on with exquisite designs and patterns. Sahastrabahu temple is located in Nagda village of Udaipur district. The temple of Lord Vishnu was constructed first, it was named Sahastrabahu Temple, meaning ‘the one having a thousand arms’, a synonym for Lord Vishnu. However, afterwards, the twin temples were collectively called Sahastrabahu Temple. As time passed, the name got corrupted, and the temple became popular as Saas-Bahu Temple. The temple structure is proof of the sacred nature of family bonds during ancient times. The temple was constructed sometime in the 10th or 11th century A.D by a certain king Mahipala of Kachchhwaha Dynasty. It is a commonly held belief that the queen of Mahipala was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Textile designing has been an ancient art and perhaps the most ancient craft of India. It is the most demanding and emerging field as it is full of scope and creativity. Any objects or things we see in our daily routine are possible design sources. These may include nature, temples, monuments, furniture, various kinds of toys, folk arts and crafts such as wall paintings, floor paintings, sculptures, carvings etc. They can also be created through adaptation of a specific design base and by fusion of different arts (Sharma, 2015).
