Abstract - Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming

automation, predictive analytics, smart manufacturing, robotics, and autonomous systems. AI technologies such as machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, computer vision, and digital twins are increasingly integrated into industrial operations. This paper focuses on the applications of AI in mechanical engineering, including predictive maintenance, robotics, manufacturing automation, thermal engineering, quality inspection, automotive systems, and energy optimization. The study also discusses advantages, challenges, and future opportunities associated with AI implementation. AI-based systems improve efficiency, reduce downtime, enhance decision-making, and support sustainable engineering practices.

AI applications in mechanical engineering have expanded significantly in recent years. The following sections discuss major application areas with greater emphasis on industrial implementation. 3.1 Predictive Maintenance Predictive maintenance is one of the most valuable applications of AI. Traditional maintenance methods include reactive and preventive maintenance. AI-based predictive maintenance uses vibration sensors, temperature sensors, acoustic monitoring, and machine learning algorithms to predict equipment failure before breakdown occurs.

1. INTRODUCTION Artificial Intelligence has become one of the most important technological advancements in modern engineering. Mechanical engineering industries increasingly rely on automation, intelligent systems, and data-driven decisionmaking. AI allows machines to learn from historical data, optimize processes, and predict future outcomes. Mechanical engineering traditionally focused on mechanical design, thermal systems, manufacturing, and maintenance. The integration of AI with these domains has improved productivity, accuracy, and operational efficiency. The rise of Industry 4.0 has accelerated AI adoption across automotive, aerospace, energy, and manufacturing sectors.

Benefits include reduced downtime, improved reliability, and lower maintenance costs. Downtime Reduction Using Predictive Maintenance is as shown in figure 1

2. AI TECHNOLOGIES IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Machine Learning algorithms are widely used for predictive analytics and fault diagnosis. Deep Learning models analyze complex datasets including images and sensor signals. Computer Vision systems perform automated inspection and defect detection. Expert systems provide decision support for industrial operations. Digital twins create virtual representations of physical systems for real-time monitoring and optimization.
