How much time should you invest in applying for your desired position? There is no definite answer to this question however a number of important points to consider.

Put your best foot forward

Your job application, usually consisting of your CV and Cover letter, is your opportunity to shine. This is your chance to showcase your skills and suitability for the job. It is important to tailor your CV and Cover letter to the individual job descriptions to ensure that specific job requirements are being addressed. It is very common for employers to scan through job applications to shortlist suitable candidates hence a comprehensive and on-point application is hugely important. This will take some time.

Don’t rush

Of course, there may be times when you are under pressure to make a submission deadline for an application or that life is simply busy. However : Do not rush over the very basics including a spellcheck before submission, ensure that all relevant documents are attached or enclosed. Take the time to review your application carefully and ideally ask someone to proofread before sending.

Give your application the time and effort it deserves

In essence, you should always give your application the time and effort it deserves. An employer will see from the quality of your application whether you have spent time on the preparation.
