Boherbue Comprehensive’s Transition Year Mini Company, Pole Pals were recent winners in the Senior Category at the National Finals of the Student Enterprise Programme held in the Helix, Dublin. Picking up two awards from An Tánaiste, Leo Varadkar, The Intellectual Property Award and Best Commercial Potential Award for their innovative product Pole Pal which is designed to assist farmers in the collection of pigtail poles when strip grazing fields. The team included Elisha Daly, Padraig Aherne, Kate O’Connor, Noirin Doody, Darragh Moynihan, Darragh McCarthy, Daniel McHale, Jessica O’Keeffe, Gearoid O’Sullivan, Diarmuid Murphy, and Joshua Fleming.

Local Nadd Banteer man Séamus Sexton of the famous Sexton Road Bowling family is the new men’s champion of Europe, taking the gold medal held by David Murphy in each of the last three European championships. Other Irish winners were Darren Dempsey and Rachel Kingston who both bowled brilliantly to win the two under-18 medals, while James O’Donovan and Kelly Mallon won bronze in the senior championships.

Ballydesmond Development Association held a community day on May 29th and welcomed businesses from the area to display their goods, services, and talents. SOS Fitness, Party On Bouncy Castles, and The Sibly Food Co., who were recently introduced to Aldi, all made an appearance. This event included the 1971 team celebrated on the Saturday night. Well done to all those involved on this wonderful day out!
