The Banteer Ambush 1921 Remembered
Occurring on the 8th March, 1921, The Banteer Ambush is a little known ambush that happened in the War of Independence. It is overshadowed by the more well known Nadd Ambush that occurred after it but it has finally been honoured as a minor but successful hit against British forces in the area at the time. Lovely weather greeted a
great turnout for the event commemorating the occasion recently with Rory Driscoll as MC on the day, Tadhg Curtin reading the proclaimation and Dr. Padraig Óg Ó Ruairc delivering an oration regarding the ambush and the legacy of the War of Independence in Ireland today. A great day to remember brave men and women fighting for our freedom.
