Freemount Collect Comhaltas Final

The All-Ireland Final of Pléaracha and Scoraíocht took place on Sunday, January 28th in Brú Boru Cashel where Craobh Chronáin Freemount Comhaltas stole the show and came first place!

The Pléaracha na nÓg competition is a 25-30 minute show featuring a variety of Irish music, dancing, singing, storytelling etc. Six teams from across Ireland compete for All-Ireland honours.

A great afternoon of traditionalentertainment was held.

Congratulations to all five teams who presented excellent shows. Congratulations to Clonakilty CCÉ, Co. Cork who also represented Munster in the All-Ireland

Pléaracha na nÓg final and came 2nd place. Best wishes to Baile Núis CCÉ/Douglas CCÉ, Co. Cork who also competed in the Senior Pléaracha competition.

Kanturk Most Active Mens Shed

Kanturk Men’s Shed attended an awards day for all the sheds who participated in the Sheds For Life Programme which took place in 2023 from September until December.

The purpose of this programme is to engage men to successfully facilitate more open and meaningful discussions around their physical and mental wellbeing while encouraging men to maintain healthier lifestyle choices and increase their awareness in areas such as physical activity, and healthy eating.

They received a few certificates for their efforts in completing the course and even received a certificate for being the most Physically Active Shed!

Thank you to the Irish Men’s Sheds Association for facilitating the awards event.

Freemount Macra Fundraiser

Thanks a million to everyone who came along to support the Freemount Macra table quiz in aid of Slí Eile on Friday the 19th. Slí Eile was set up to provide an alternative recovery option for those who might otherwise have to spend time in psychiatric hospital, enabling people to recover and rebuild their lives and ensuring that mental health challenges do not stand in the way of people achieving rich and fulfilling lives. €730 for this very important cause was raised throughout the night. Well done to the Macra Ballyhoura team who came out on top.

Meelin Wren Group Raise Funds For Three Charities

Meelin Wren Group made a Presentation at Quinlans Bar Meelin on Sunday 21st of January. There was €3,000 collected which was divided between three charities: Cork Penny Dinners, Girl Child Education Project Ghana Africa and Nurture Africa. (Missing from the photo on the night the Moynihan family)

Cafe Bia Crowned by McKennas’ Guides

An exciting and proud moment for the staff at Cafe Bia in Kanturk.

They were paid a visit by John and Sally McKenna of McKenna’s Guides. Recognising the hard work that they do, the cafe was awarded a McKennas Best In Ireland 2024 plaque.

John and Sally McKenna explore Ireland’s food culture and have written many guide books on the food culture in Ireland. For 30 years they have helmed the annual The 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland.

Cafe Bia will continue to bring delicious fresh food and coffee using as much local produce as they can from all the wonderful local suppliers. Thanks to all of the staff who worked hard for the well-deserved recognition in food, service, and hospitality.
