BIG BUZZ AS BEE DOC MAKES FORBES U30 LIST: P2

A MIGHTY WOMAN Tribute to the late Maureen Cronin Duhallow bids a fond and respectful farewell to the courageous Maureen Cronin, who stood up for women’s rights at a time in Ireland when social conventions were not on her side. Subject to the ‘marriage ban’ that effectively ended women’s teaching careers the moment they wed, she resisted by working a full year without

pay; and spearheaded a test case brought by her trade union that saw the ban for teachers overturned in 1953 and scrapped entirely in 1973. Maureen, who passed away peacefully this month aged 105, hailed from Ennis and Toureenfineen, Rockchapel.
