Instincts Closed Instincts: Cannot Be Changed?

 Mating: Stress can greatly change mating habits. Pandas in captivity are difficult breeders.

 Breed-Genetics: Manipulation from an outside source (humans) can lead to physical and emotional animal health problems. Humans have manipulated dog sizes, shapes, temperaments and even health issues, yet all dogs come from Wolf genetics.

 Sex: Rescue breeding is a strong concern of zoos and animal wildlife facilities. But “fixing” the birth rate in some animals is also a means of rescue, as in Dog, Cat, and Rabbit.

 Age: Animals in rescue facilities and wildlife reserves are living longer lives. This is a form of human manipulation but assists the species with survival. Oddly, bird life spans tend to decrease when they live in captivity.

Emperor Penguins can be 3 1/2 feet tall while the Little Blue is 16” & 2 1/2 pounds.

Imprinting Instincts (Open)

 Some animals will form a special attachment to an individual of another species if they see them a short time after birth. Bird has a strong tendency to imprint. Goose and Penguin will bond with humans as well as with other animals not of their species.
