WHO/FIP Handbook “Developing Pharmacy Practice: a Focus on Patient Care” A new working draft on “Developing Pharmacy Practice: a Focus on Patient Care” was launched by FIP and WHO on Tuesday, 21 November 2006 at WHO Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland. IPSF was invited to support this handbook launching together with WHO and FIP. This handbook provides a basic knowledge of pharmacy practice with a lot of practical information and examples. All the information provided in this handbook is very useful and valuable for us, pharmaceutical students.

This launching is a historic moment for pharmacy profession, as it is the first practical step to improve pharmacy practice in the world. Further steps will be taken soon, as IPSF will support WHO and FIP in the field-testing of this handbook in pharmacy schools in all over the world. During field-testing, we hope to measure the teaching process before and after using this handbook.

There will be a call from WHO/FIP for pharmacy schools to participate in this programme. If you want to improve our profession, encourage your school of pharmacy to participate in this programme! This is your time!

For further information, please do not hesitate to contact Audrey Clarissa at president@ipsf.org Student Exchange Programme in Cracow, Poland Krzysztof Nesterowicz, Former Local Exchange Officer This year our national students’ association the Young Pharmacy (Młoda Farmacja), Section Cracow organised internships for pharmaceutical students coordinated by Students’ Exchange Programme (SEP) of the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation. Our guests came from many countries like Egypt, Finland, Hungary and Spain. We hosted seven students.

Marina from Barcelona completed her two-week practice in the Institute of Pharmacobiology of the Pharmaceutical Faculty of the Jagiellonian University. Her work was to help our scientists in their research. Young Waleed from Cairo, Egypt had his one month practice in the “Apipol Farma” Company in Myślenice. The student could see “from inside” how the modern and fast developing pharmaceutical concern was working. Other students completed their one month practices in hospital pharmacies in three big Cracow hospitals.

Our guests were accommodated in a students’ hostel. They were impressed by Cracow. We showed them the Royal Castle, Jewish District Kazimierz, galleries and museums. Some of them saw the Salt Mine in Wieliczka which is a UNESCO cultural heritage site.

The internships were organised from the middle of June till the middle of September. All the participants of this year SEP in Cracow were satisfied with their practices and social programme organised by our students, members of the Young Pharmacy Association.

We hope the SEP will become a tradition in our Faculty and already now we are looking forward to hosting pharmaceutical students in summer 2007! So don’t hesitate, do your SEP in Cracow, Poland. You’re always welcome!

Development Fund recipient’s report of the Cairns Congress Ganesh Subedi, Nepal It is always wonderful to experience the fever of IPSF! Working together for a whole year and then getting a chance to meet the IPSFers from all over the world is always a much awaited occasion. Especially students like us coming from developing countries, it is a lifetime experience. I am greatly thankful to the Development Fund and the Committee especially Anna Watson, Georgina Gal and Tara Hehir for their great support in making my presence at the 52nd IPSF World Congress at Cairns, Australia.

It was my first time to attend the IPSF World Congress and I was very fascinated with everything I could experience. The conduct of the General Assembly, electing the new committee, the workshops and of course the results of the Moving On II survey presented by Prof. Ian Bates were all wonderful. Also, I would like to congratulate Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Students Association and the Students Association of South Africa for getting Full Membership of IPSF. WOW!!! It is an unforgettable memory for me to go bungee jumping and visit the Great Barrier Reef - that was actually my first time to travel on a ship! Going to Kuranda Rainforest and visiting the Pubs of Cairns was CRAZY!!! Thanks to the Aussies for arranging such a wonderful event!

Finally, it the day of departure came. It was very hard for everyone to leave and travel back home with memories of lots of fun, lots of new and old friends and lots of new experiences. I myself have gained something more than I expected and it will definitely help me organise the 6th IPSF-APRO-APPS in July 2007 in Nepal.

Last but not least I invite all IPSFers to the 6th APPS July 18-25 at Kathmandu, Nepal and I would like to express my thanks to the Development Fund of IPSF for the support. Viva la Pharmacie!!!
