IPSF Publications

President’s Corner Audrey Clarissa It’s been a few weeks since the memorable and fun 52nd IPSF Congress in Cairns, Australia, the newly elected IPSF executive has started the year 2006-07 full of enthusiasm. I am happy that there has been progress since the congress in July.

At the moment, IPSF has formally received a Roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council, ECOSOC, of the United Nations. Many thanks to the past executive for their work to submit this application.

Last August, several past and current IPSF executive members represented IPSF at the 66th Congress of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, FIP, in Salvador Bahia, Brazil. IPSF had official programmes with FIP sections, and we are looking forward for stronger cooperation between IPSF and FIP sections for next official programmes in FIP Congress next year in Beijing, China.

IPSF was also represented at the 175th UNESCO Executive Board meeting in Paris and IPSF is looking forward to further collaboration with this renowned organisation.

Last but not least, I would like to welcome all new members in IPSF: BPSA (Bangladesh) and SAPSF (South Africa) as Full Members; ASRN (Israel), NUPSA (Kenya), and GUC-SPSA (Egypt) as Members in Association. And I hope that IPSF spirit will be spread during the year!

Executive Introductions Audrey Clarissa, Indonesia President I started in IPSF as contact person of HMF ‘ars praeparandi’ ITB, Indonesia in 2004 and then continued to be involved actively in IPSF by becoming Chairperson of 5th Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium (APPS) in 2006. The unforgettable 5th APPS went smoothly and was very successful. Soon after that, I am now looking forward to remain active and give more contribution to IPSF as the IPSF President 2006-07. I have just graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree recently, at the age of 21, and will take one year off before

continuing my professional degree, to serve as President and Permanent Officer in The Hague. I am committed to bring IPSF forward in every single area with full enthusiasm!

Juha Mönkäre, Finland Treasurer and Vice President I am beginning my second year as IPSF Treasurer after being elected for two years in the 52nd IPSF congress in Cairns. Before working in IPSF Executive I have been the Treasurer and the IPSF Contact Person of the Finnish Pharmaceutical Students’ Association. I am entering my 5th and final year of pharmacy studies at the Kuopio University, Finland. I have attended three IPSF congresses since 50th IPSF congress in Halifax 2004. I will stay happy as long as everyone pays their membership fees ☺ Georgina Gál, Hungary Secretary General I am a final year pharmacy student at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. I have been involved in IPSF since 2002, when the IPSF Congress was held in Budapest. I was a Student Exchange Committee member for two years, the Chairperson of Student Exchange in 2004-05 and Secretary General and Vice President in 2005-06. My long involvement has only increased my affection for IPSF so I am eagerly looking forward to spending another year on exec! You will hear more from me as the next congress is approaching but I am happy to answer any questions about the IPSF Official Documents and other exciting administrative issues! ☺ Anna Watson, United Kingdom Chairperson of Public Health I have been working as a hospital pharmacist in London for two years now, since I qualified in 2004. My interest in IPSF was established through the involvement and promotion of IPSF by my national students’ association, BPSA. I attended my first IPSF Congress in Budapest, 2002, and haven’t missed one since! In this time I have served IPSF as Vice-President and IPSF Contact Person for my national association, BPSA (2003-2004). I have also been a member of the IPSF Development Fund Sub-Committee for three years, including holding the role of Development Fund Co-ordinator for 2005-2006. Now, having attended five IPSF Congresses, I am really looking forward to contributing to IPSF as an executive member in the challenging and exciting role of Chairperson of Public Health. My aim for this year is to consolidate the four Public Health campaigns that have previously been established by IPSF. With the invaluable help of the IPSF Public Health Sub-Committee, I intend to reach out to all corners of IPSF’s membership – equally targeting active associations who wish to expand their activities and providing support and encouragement to others who are implementing a public health campaign for the first time.

Zhining Goh, Singapore Chairperson of Education and Practice I have just graduated in June 2006 from the National University of Singapore and am currently undergoing my pre-registration training. My life in pharmacy student organisations started in 2004 at the 50th IPSF Congress in Halifax, Canada and since then I have also attended the subsequent two Congresses in Bonn, Germany and Cairns, Australia. I was appointed Education Director for NUSPS for 2004-05. At the

51st Congress in Bonn, I was appointed Chair of the Moving On II Research Group for 2005-06, a charge I took up with fervour to lead the project to much success. I am looking forward to leading the Moving On projects and developing IPSF’s leadership and capacity building training programme. I am also committed to investigating new educational and professional development opportunities for the Federation.

Nataša Nikolić, Serbia Chairperson of Student Exchange I attended my first IPSF congress in Bonn 2005 as Serbian Student Exchange Officer. My second Congress was the 52nd IPSF Congress in Cairns. I was constantly active in National Association of Pharmacy Students – Serbia (NAPSer) involved in most of student organizing teams. I was chosen to be SEO first time in 2004-05. NAPSer unanimously re-elected me for this position for 2005-06 because of my good organising and communication skills. I represented NAPSer in many pharmacy events during 2004-2006. In 2005 in Bonn I was appointed to the Student Exchange Committee. I visited the Czech Republic for the Student Exchange Committee meeting in March 2005. I have just turned 25, and am right now preparing my last paper work for graduation at Faculty of Pharmacy, Belgrade, Serbia, in December 2006. Being very active in SEP from the beginning, I am determined to use all my IPSF experience to work hard as Chairperson of Student Exchange.

Mohamed Atef, Egypt Chairperson of Public Relations In the 52nd IPSF Congress in Cairns, I have been elected the Chairperson of Public Relations for the year 2006-2007. I am currently studying in my 4th & pre-final year in the Faculty of Pharmacy & Biotechnology at the German University in Cairo. Prior to my election, I had been active in various students' activities. I initiated and took leading positions in many clubs, active working groups and associations which tackled different fields both inside and outside my university. In 2005, along with my colleagues in the German University , we established our local pharmacy students' association GUC-SPSA (German University in Cairo - Scientific Pharmaceutical Students' Association). Along the last year I was responsible for the Public Relations and Fund Raising in this local association. Acting as head for Public relations I led the association to success both on local and national levels. In Cairns Congress we managed to get Membership in Association (MiA) in IPSF for our local association. Among my experience in IPSF I was a member in the Financial Committee for the year 2005-2006 and I was also the national coordinator for Moving On III project in Egypt. In May 2006 I completed my internship in IPSF Headquarters in The Hague, The Netherlands. My main portfolio concerns this year in IPSF are establishing a foundation for the EMRO (Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office), increasing members in the areas of Middle East, Africa and South America: in other words giving IPSF spirit to the whole World.

Annabelle McGowan, New Zealand Chairperson of Publications I am a 25 years old pharmacist from New Zealand. I graduated from University of Otago with a Bachelor of Pharmacy in 2003. I am registered as a pharmacist in 3 countries- NZ, UK and Ireland. I now live in Dublin, Ireland and work full time as a locum community pharmacist. I first became involved in IPSF in 2003 when I attended the 49th IPSF congress in Singapore. Since then I have also attended the 51st in Bonn, Germany where I served on the Motions Committee for the General Assembly and of course I was at the 52nd congress in Cairns Australia this year. I am delighted to have been elected as IPSF Chairperson of Publications for 2006-2007 and am very much

looking forward to working with the new executive and producing the best of publications for IPSF. The biggest challenge this year will be to redesign the website and make it easier for the executive to maintain.

Also, there shall be only ONE News Bulletin published in this term so you can be guaranteed it will be packed full of information and stories about what IPSFers are up to world wide!! The NB will be published in February 2007 so look out for in your mailboxes then!

John Nguyen, Australia Chairperson of APRO I first became involved with student organisations as a first year pharmacy student in 2003 at the Victorian College of Pharmacy, Melbourne Australia. I have served as local president of VPSA and been involved with NAPSA (Australia) on several subcommittees since 2004, including Chairperson of the Reception Committee for NAPSA Congress hosted in Melbourne, January 2007. My first IPSF experience was at the 51st Bonn congress 2005 as an official delegate, whereby shortly after I attended the 4th APPS Tokyo congress and was elected as Secretary of the Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO) from 2005-2006. I was recently elected as Chairperson of APRO in June at 5th APPS, after also attending the 52nd Cairns congress, and hope to serve IPSF to the best of my abilities and have fun with international students in sharing the IPSF spirit.

I have graduated and become a fully qualified pharmacist this spring. After hearing about IPSF at my university, I started my involvement at the 2003 World Congress in Singapore. I have since then attended every Congress and PanAmerican Regional Symposium. I have increased myinvolvement by being the Contact Person for the U.S. and Chairperson of PARO. This year at the PARS, I was re-elected as PARO Chairperson and am looking forward to improving communication and participation

within the region.

Yu-Wen Angela Chang, Taiwan, China Chairperson of 53rd IPSF Congress I attended my first IPSF congress in Bonn in 2005. I have been actively involved in student organisations and IPSF as the Student Exchange Officer for the Pharmaceutical Students’ Association Taiwan. At the 51st IPSF Congress in Bonn, we, along with other delegates from PSA-Taiwan, successfully bid to host the IPSF world congress in Taiwan in 2007. This year I have attended the world congress in Cairns, and am also involved in the Membership Promotion Subcommittee. At the age of 20, I am currently starting the 3rd year of pharmacy education in National Taiwan University in Taipei City. As the RC Chairperson, I am confident that the RC team will do a terrific job in organizing a congress that will highlight everyone’s IPSF memory.
