As part of the 16th ISM, representatives from the Department of Agriculture's Philippine Rural Development Project, the World Bank (WB), and the European Union (EU) visited the Migcawayan Tribal Agricultural Cooperative's (MTAC) Crumb Rubber Processing and Marketing Enterprise subproject. The enterprise stands as one of first recipients of European Union Co-Financing, a grant dedicated to enhancing the livelihoods of indigenous communities.

World Bank task team leader Mio Takada and European Union programme manager Mojca Krisper-Figueroa, engaged with MTAC beneficiaries and surveyed the designated site for the upcoming crumb rubber processing facility. Mojca Krisper-Figueroa congratulated the Mindanao team for the accomplishments and expressed the continued support of the European Union for Mindanao.

“The EU has poured support in Mindanao not just through DA-PRDP because we want to empower the indigenous communities, and bridge cultures for a brighter, inclusive tomorrow,”the EU programme manager said.

Stakeholders map out strategies for corn industry

he RPCO-9 I-PLAN Component in collaboration with DA RFO-IX PMED and the Corn Program, organized a comprehensive two-day stakeholders' consultation on November 28 to 29, 2023, in Pagadian City. The consultation gathered inputs for the crafting of the Zamboanga Peninsula Corn Industry Roadmap for 2023-2040.

The activity drew the participation of provincial corn coordinators from Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay. Also present were, city corn coordinators from Isabela City and Zamboanga City, as well as municipal corn coordinators from Siayan, Sergio Osmeña, and Liloy in Zamboanga del Norte; Mabuhay in Zamboanga Sibugay; and Pagadian City, Aurora, Mahayag, Ramon Magsaysay, Dinas, Midsalip, and San Miguel in Zamboanga del Sur. The activity also had representatives from FCAs in Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga City, along with a representative from the Department of Trade and Industry.

The consultation among the CPTs Davao del Sur presents the priority was conducted for a wider scope commodities of the province and impact of the I-PLAN SC 1.2 activities. The CPTs rated their priority commodities per province and city wherein top ve (5) priority commodities were identi ed to serve as guide for the conduct of SC 1.2 Activities in the region for the following year. Through this activity, representatives of the CPTs and the RPCO XI also presented their indicative calendar of activities for 2024.

PRDP’s ₱4.4B boosts cacao industry; showcased in Cacao Congress

acao-based enterprises of the Department of Agriculture Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) across the country, together with cacao industry stakeholders, joined the National Cacao Congress on November 16-17, 2023 in Davao city. With the theme “Cacao 2.0: Sustainability through productivity and quality” the congress showcased innovations and best practices in cacao production and chocolate making.

"This Cacao Congress serves as vital platform for cacao industry leaders to foster innovation and share valuable knowledge," Department of Agriculture Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban said.

This year, PRDP Mindanao brought in eighteen of their supported groups to showcase the best of their products. The event also highlighted the partnerships between government, non-government organizations and the private sector through a series of plenaries led by industry experts, exhibits and other related activities.

Tawi-Tawi and Sulu seaweed stakeholders commit to address constraints he PRDP RPCO BARMM in partnership with MAFAR Fisheries T Services conducted a series of consultation for seaweeds industry for the Provinces of Tawi-Tawi and Sulu on November 6-7, 2023 and November 9-11, 2023. The groups that participated were: seaweeds farmers, traders, processors, researchers, LGU’s OPAG, line agencies (MTIT, TESDA, MENRE, MOST) and other key stakeholders.

The gathering served as a platform for the harmonization of innovative solutions and the creation of Seaweeds Council.Through engaging discussions, the event fostered a unified approach to push forward the seaweed industry in BARMM Region, emphasizing the collaboration between governmental bodies, research institutions, and industry players.

This inclusive dialogue not only acknowledged the hurdles faced by the sector but also laid the groundwork to fortify the seaweed industry’s sustainability and resilience in BARMM Region.

Davao Region accelerates encoding of Agri-fishery investments

PCO XI I-PLAN and M&E Unit, together with the counterparts of PSO Mindanao, conducted an LGU module updating for the CIP investments.

Representatives of respective LGUs of Davao Occidental representative Davao Region attended presents the encoded investments the activity on of the province in the database.

The two-day activity resulted to encoding of additional investments for Davao region in the SIDLAN database. P/CLGU encoders were also able to provide feedback and recommendations to improve SIDLAN. With this activity, Davao region looks forward to tracking more investments for commodities.

DA-12 holds training, continues mainstreaming of PRDP tools he Department of Agriculture Region 12 led by RPCO 12 T I-PLAN component conducted a training as part of mainstreaming of Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) tools into their regular operations. The activity was held on November 15-17, 2023 in South Cotabato.

The event was attended by representatives from DA 12 units.

DA 12 shared a commitment to actively integrate the PRDP tools into the day-to-day operations of the Department of Agriculture, such as commodity prioritization, rapid market appraisal (RMA), the use of value chain analysis (VCA), expanded vulnerability and suitability assessment (EVSA) and the commodity investment plan (CIP). Participants expressed optimism about the transformative potential of these tools in fostering a more resilient, sustainable, and economically viable agricultural sector.
