Successful Family Preparedness Workshop and Free Family Law Legal Clinic!

Family law attorney Norma Linda Ureña guides participants in filling out Temporary Parental Consent Agreements. Seattle — On June 2, IPJC presented a workshop for Latino families on family preparedness designed to enable them to protect their minor children in case of an emergency, detention and/

or deportation. The event, held at Delridge Community Center, included both a workshop and a free family law legal clinic. During the workshop, attendees learned

about their constitutional rights in case of encounters with immigration agents, drew up family emergency preparedness plans and had the opportunity to prepare temporary parental consent

Justice for Women is a grassroots movement for social justice and systemic change, especially for women living in poverty. Women’s Justice Circles empower women to identify issues of concern in their community and act for change.

Together We Can Make a Difference in the Lives of Women and Our Community as a Whole! agreements to authorize a trusted adult to serve as legal guardian of their children. During the legal clinic, bilingual family law attorneys provided free legal consultations in Spanish to families in need of assistance. The event was co-sponsored by Ureña Law Office and was supported by a generous grant from the City of Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs. Exitoso Taller de Preparación Familiar y Clínica Legal Gratuita de Derecho de Familia Seattle — El 2 de junio, IPJC presentó un taller de preparación familiar para familias latinas diseñado para ayudarlas a proteger a sus hijos menores de edad en caso de una emergencia, detención y/o deportación. El evento, realizado en el Centro Comunitario Del­ridge, incluyó tanto un taller como una clínica legal gratuita para casos de Derecho de Familia. Durante

el taller, los participantes aprendieron sobre sus derechos cons-

titucionales en caso de contacto con agentes de inmigración, redactaron planes de preparación familiar en caso de emergencia y los padres tuvieron la oportunidad de preparar acuerdos de consentimiento temporal para autorizar que un adulto en quien confían sirva como apoderado legal de sus niños. Durante la clínica legal, abogados bilingües expertos en Derecho de Familia

proporcionaron consultas gratuitas en español. El evento fue coauspiciado por Ureña Law Office y contó con el apoyo de una generosa subvención de la Oficina de Asuntos de Inmigrantes y Refugiados de la Ciudad de Seattle.
