eading coatings manufacturer Hempel can now offer its many customers the complete range of protective coatings, with the recent launch of a new range of intumescent coatings for passive fire protection of steel structures in cellulosic fires including industrial halls, public buildings, stadiums, airports and supermarkets. At present, Hempel’s intumescent range includes two one-component solvent-borne acrylic coatings: HEMPACORE ONE for on-site applications and HEMPACORE ONE FD for off-site applications, which have the following advantages in the market: - Durability and Reliability - Efficiency - Flexibility. Intumescent coatings are normally used in low corrosivity environments and/or protected by a topcoat. The durability and reliability of the coatings is however of great importance as the products are expected to have a long lifetime, yet still perform to their design life, in case of fire, so that lives are saved. The excellent durability of HEMPACORE ONE 43600 and HEMPACORE ONE FD 43601 was confirmed in a set of tests carried out according to ETAG18-2 and compared to commercially available intumescent coating products on the market. The testing included accelerated exposure to UV and extreme temperature changes and was designed to simulate resistance to outdoor exposure and carried out on panels with non-topcoated intumescent over a standard compatible primer as a preceding coat. After the complete testing, the HEMPACORE ONE 43600 product had no degradation and no film defects whereas the alternative commercial products either displayed

I rivestimenti intumescenti sono in genere utilizzati in ambienti a bassa corrosività e/o protetti da un topcoat. La resistenza e l’affidabilità dei rivestimenti é tuttavia di grande importanza se i prodotti devono avere una lunga durata, offrendo sempre le medesime caratteristiche di progettazione in grado di assicurare la sicurezza delle persone in caso di incendio. L’eccellente durabilità di HEMPACORE ONE 43600 ed HEMPACORE ONE FD 43601 è stata confermata in una serie di test eseguiti conformemente a ETAG18-2, con un raffronto con gli altri prodotti di rivestimento intumescenti attualmente disponibili sul mercato. I test, che hanno previsto un’esposizione accelerata a UV e variazioni di temperatura estreme, sviluppati per simulare la resistenza all’esposizione all’aperto, sono stati eseguiti su pannelli con intumescente privo di topcoat su un primer standard compatibile come mano precedente. Al termine del test, HEMPACORE ONE 43600 non ha presentato alcun degrado o difetti nel film, mentre i prodotti alternativi commerciali hanno
