An Easter Welcome

We welcome members and visitors to this celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. As we worship with joy and thanksgiving, may we sense the presence of the risen Christ and the transformational power of the Holy Spirit. If you are visiting with us, we hope you will return again soon and find in this church family a spiritual home and refuge. Our good news and proclamation today and always is: Jesus Christ is risen and he is Lord!

Celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ (8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m.)

The Gathering for Worship

The service of worship begins with the prelude. Through the power and brilliance of the music may you feel the majesty and glory of God; in its quietness, His peace.

O mighty God, lead us into the experience of triumphing over death. Let us walk humbly and majestically, fearing nothing. May we begin our immortal lives now. Grant that sinking ourselves in Christ we may win His victory in all things. from “Beginning the Day” by Henry Edmonds

* APOSTLES’ CREED..........................................................................................................................................Rev.

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost; born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven; and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRESENTATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

* The Offertory Statement

* The Old Hundredth Psalm Tune ................................................................................................... Ralph Vaughan Williams

(People and Choir)

All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; Him serve with fear, his praise forth tell, Come ye before him, and rejoice.

The Lord, ye know, is God indeed, Without our aid he did us make; We are His folk, he doth us feed, And for His sheep he doth us take.

(Choir)

O enter then his gates with praise; Approach with joy his courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless his Name always, For it is seemly so to do.

For why? the Lord our God is good; His mercy is for ever sure; His truth at all times firmly stood, And shall from age to age endure.

(continued on next page)

(continued from previous page)

(People and Choir)

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. William Kethe

* The Prayer of Dedication

The Offertory Anthem - “Awake, Arise, Lift up your Voice”

Richard Webster Awake, arise, lift up your voice, let Easter music swell; rejoice in Christ, again rejoice,and on his praises dwell. Oh, with what gladness and surprise the saints their Saviour greet; nor will they trust their ears and eyes but by his hands and feet: those hands of liberal love indeed in infinite degree, those feet still free to move and bleed for millions and for me.

[Victimae Paschali laudes, immolent christiani, Agnus redemit oves, Christus innocens patri reconciliavit peccatores. Let Christians offer sacrificial praises to the passover victim.The lamb has redeemed the sheep: The Innocent Christ has reconciled the sinners to the Father.] His enemies had scaled the stone as Pilate gave them leave, lest dead, and friendless, and alone he should their skill deceive. O Dead arise! O Friendless stand by seraphim adored! O Solitude again command your host from heav’n restored! Alleluia!

Christopher Smart

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER..........................................................................Rev. Seamon OUR FATHER, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done; On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts; As we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil; For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

The Sending

* HYMN 238 - “Thine is the Glory”..............................................................................................................JUDAS

Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son; Endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won. Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away, Kept the folded graveclothes where thy body lay. Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son; Endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won.

Lo! Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb; Lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom. Let the church with gladness hymns of triumph sing, For the Lord now liveth; death hath lost its sting. Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son; Endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won.

No more we doubt thee, glorious Prince of life! Life is naught without thee; aid us in our strife. Make us more than conquerors through thy deathless love; Bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above. Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son; Endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won.

* BENEDICTION.......................................................................................................................................................Rev.

THE LILIES with which the church is made beautiful today are, as they stand, symbols of the immortal life. As these flowers have sunk from sight and then at the bidding of their inner life sprung again into beauty and fragrance, so we believe the souls of men survive the winter of death and live once again. (Written by Dr. Henry M. Edmonds, 1938.) Below are names of some of our loved ones for whom the lilies were given to the glory of God and in loving memory.
