Activity KEEPER WARS ODP TRYOUTS >> IDP LAUNCHED Year 3 of Keeper Wars at Spring Creek in Altoona with 68 competitors! 723 players competed in ODP Tryouts for the 2022-23 cycle. 478 selected to ODP pool, 98 join the new Iowa Development Program (IDP).
CHAMPIONSHIP CUPS The quest to win the Iowa Presidents Cup or the Iowa Presidents Cup happened in the fall for 15U-19U teams. Champions earned spots in their respective USYS regional championships in June 2023 representing #TeamIowa!
ODP & IDP EVENTS D LICENSE BEGINS 27 ODP and IDP teams were formed for December events that gave 488 players the platform to perform and compete. 36 coaches begin a monthslong course on their way to earning a U.S. Soccer D License.

GRASSROOTS COURSES LEAGUE PLAY The first of 19 Grassroots Coach Education Courses offered in 2022-23 are conducted. Fall Iowa Soccer League matches began across the state. For the seasonal year 68 member clubs participated in the State, Rec, and Academy Leagues.

LEAGUE PLAY ENDS ANNUAL GENERAL MTG. Nearly 1,000 teams complete the fall season; younger age groups look to spring & playing together again. Fall + spring = over 4,200 league games were played! Annual business meeting of the membership held virtually November 16.

PRE-ODP DAY COPA CLASICO A new opportunity for younger players kicked off with “Pre-ODP Day” which introduced the 160 players to a future player development option. Copa Clasico at TBK in Bettendorf gave 61 teams a competitive 6v6/7v7 experience.

GRANT AWARDED: REFEREES C LICENSE Innovate to Grow (ITG) grant awarded, funding the development and implementation of the new Iowa Soccer Referee Development Program. 24 coaches finished last leg of earning U.S. Soccer National C License.

A LEAGUE AMERICA FESTIVAL CHAMPIONSHIP CUPS The capstone REC TEAM event of the year hosts 100 teams, ages 8U-15U, at the Spring Creek Sports Complex in Altoona. 13U-14U teams had their chances to win Presidents and State Cups with competition held at TBK in Bettendorf.

D. CAMP + REF ACADEMY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS D. Camp + Year 2 of the Ref Academy held at Grinnell College brought over 400 players, referees, coaches, & ref educators together in a residential training experience. 16B FC United DSM finishes USYS National Championship run as Semifinalist.

STATEWIDE MEMBER TOUR SYMPOSIUM Staff + The Collective Global traveled the state, meeting with 33 clubs and their leaders to identify member priorities. Nearly 250 attended expanded Symposium which now also serves as the annual educational event for High School Soccer Coaches Association.
PILOT PROGRAM REFEREE CLINICS SPRING LEAGUE PLAY For the year, 239 youth participated in a pilot ref recruitment & education program that is the foundation for the new Referee Development Program (RDP). Teams up to 15U age groups returned to the fields for their spring league seasons.
MIDWEST PRESIDENTS CUP MIDWEST REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS 12 teams compete at Midwest Presidents Cup in Ohio. Iowa Raptors 17B advance as Champs, QC Strikers 15B as a Finalist. 6 teams compete in St. Louis with FC United DSM 16B advancing to the National Championships as Region Champs.

COACH EDUCATION Courses for all Grassroots + D and C Licenses
MAKING AN IMPACT Council Bluffs, Waverly, Bettendorf, Des Moines, via Zoom. Partnering with The Collective Global, staff crisscrossed the state, engaging club leaders from 33 member organizations. Designed to better understand member challenges and how to meet them, the outcome was the development of new tools that sharpen the staff’s focus in delivering services and programming that better address member challenges. The IDP is designed to keep players involved in additional development opportunities they may not otherwise have. After months of training, six IDP players were elevated to an Iowa ODP event roster in February, participating in an ODP identification competition. With their performances at the tournament, three were identified and selected to participate in Region Pool matches. IDP kept them connected to a higher pathway and their development was recognized! By way of 22 grassroots and national courses delivered by the coach education staff, 220 coaches from 44 member clubs received in-person education. The result was over 3,400 more member players were coached by educated and licensed coaches than would have been otherwise.

MAKING AN IMPACT In year two of the Referee Academy, the number of participants increased by 166%. 12 female and 12 male youth referees were trained on the field and in the classroom over four days, taking their knowledge and growth back to their local communities and onto the fields for the season ahead. Referee trainers included four males and three females, in support of better representation of all involved in officiating. The League America Festival is the capstone event for recreational teams and a chance to play different competition from regular league play and gauge how they stack up. 100 teams came to Spring Creek in Altoona for an early May competition that gave over 1,200 rec players a tournament they can call their own. Champions were crowned in the 11U-above divisions. Sincere thanks to partner Score Sports who provided resources that elevated the experience. 2022-23 was the second year of our weekly, in-season player recognition program known as “Team of the Week” (TOTW). In total, 603 players were nominated - 23 of whom were nominated by an opposing coach - and 308 were recognized on the weekly TOTW, shared via Facebook & Instagram. 10

Partners & Sponsors Helping us help members In building the future of Iowa Soccer, we have focused on expanding our partnerships and sponsorships to both provide additional resources and benefits to members as well as to grow our revenue stream to mitigate the constantly increasing costs. Over the last 24 months, Iowa Soccer has signed more than 25 agreements with partners and sponsors. These agreements meet one of three primary goals: provide a benefit to the membership, add revenue to Iowa Soccer, or improve the services that Iowa Soccer provides. Ideally, these agreements meet more than one of the goals, but each has played a part in making us a better organization. We will continue to identify potential sponsors for all aspects of our organization to grow revenue and look for partners that provide value to our clubs.
