Spring Meeting & Pro-Pro Results April 4, 2022 | Brown Deer Golf Club

Coralville, Iowa – Brown Deer Golf Club played host to the 2022 Iowa PGA Spring Meeting and Pro-Pro event. The morning included updates from the PGA of America, Iowa PGA Section Officers and Board.

The players also competed in a Pro-Pro event here on Monday, April 4 at Brown Deer Golf Club. Thank you to our Presenting Sponsors Harris Golf Cars and Under Armour. Teams for the Pro-Pro were comprised of two Iowa PGA Professionals competing in an 18-hole Team Event, one of best ball of two format.

Jay Giannetto and Matt Jennings both of Elmwood Country Club carded bidies on holes 2, 4, 7, 10, 11, 13, 15 and 18 and no bogeys in their round of 63 (8-under-par).

Darin Fisher of The Preserve on Rathbun Lake and John Shawver of Fore Seasons Golf Practice Center, Mark Atchison of Des Moines Golf & Country Club and Tracy Vest of Blue Top Ridge tied for second place with 64 (7-under-par).

Team McCarty/Schmid Win Iowa PGA Pro-Pro #1 April 11, 2022 | Veenker Memorial Golf Course

Ames, Iowa – Sean McCarty and Jeff Schmid both of Brown Deer Golf Club won the Pro-Pro #1, Monday, April 11 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course. McCarty and Schmid turned in 8-under-par 64 to capture the win.

Teams for Pro-Pro #1 were comprised of two Iowa PGA Professionals competing in an 18-Hole Team Event, one of best ball of two format.

McCarty and Schmid carded birdies on holes 1, 3, 5, 9, 10, 12,15 and 18.

Runner up team of Jay Giannetto and Matt Jennings both of Elmwood Country Club carded birdies on holes 3, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 16 and 18 including a bogey on hole 8 for a 7-under-par 65.

In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Pro-Pro #1 featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions.

Open Division winner Giannetto claimed first place in the Open Division with a 5-under-par 67. Giannetto carded birdies on holes 3, 6, 7, 10, 12, 16 and 18 including bogeys on holes 4 and 8.

Senior Division winner Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf took home first place in the Senior Division with 1-under-par 71. Gibb recorded birdies on holes 9, 12 and 13; eagle on hole 10 with bogeys on holes 15 and 17 including a double bogey on hole 5 in route to his victory.

Super Senior Division winner Ken Schall of Ken Schall Golf Performance Studio claimed first place in the Super Senior Division with 1-over-par 73. Schall recorded birdies on holes 1, 9, 10 and 18 including bogeys on holes 4, 5, 7, 12 and 17.

Iowa PGA 36 Hole Classic Presented by Mizuno April 25, 2022 | Oakwood Country Club

Coal Valley, Illinois – Zach Steffen of Terrace Hills Golf Course won the 36-Hole Classic presented by Mizuno Golf, Monday, April 25 at Oakwood Country Club with a four-under par total in very tough, cold and windy conditions.

The Iowa PGA 36-Hole Classic presented by Mizuno Golf featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions.

The Open Division winner Steffen fired a 1-under par round of 70 to go along with afternoon round of 3-under par 68 to finish the 36-hole event at 138 (4-under par). Tied for second were Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club (70-73=143) and Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club (70-73=143) and one-over par.

The Senior Division winner was Jeff Schmid of Brown Deer Golf Club with rounds of 73-72=145 (three-over par). Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf finished in solo second with rounds of 75-76=151 (nine-over par).

The Super Senior Division winner was Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course with rounds of 76-76=152 (ten-over par).

Curt Schnell of Okoboji View Golf Course celebrated his birthday today with a second place finish with rounds of 7977=156 (fourteen-over par).

Team Giannetto/Jennings Win Iowa PGA Pro-Pro #2 May 2, 2022 | TPC Deere Run

Silvis, Illinois – Jay Giannetto and Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club won the Pro-Pro #2 Monday, May 2 at TPC Deere Run. Giannetto & Jennings turned in a round of 7-under-par 64 to capture the win.

Giannetto & Jennings carded birdies on holes 2, 10, 11, 13, 14,16 and 17; double bogey on hole 18 and an eagle on hole 1 to capture the win.

John Bermel and Jacob Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course and Matt Erger and Ben Montgomery of Airport National Golf Complex all tied for second place. Both teams turned in rounds of 6-under-par 65.

Jennings claimed first place in the Open Division with a 5-under-par 66. Jennings carded birdies on holes 2, 10, 13, 14, 16 and 17; bogey on hole 7; double bogey on hole 18 and an eagle on hole 1. Runner up Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf turned in a round of 3-under-par 68.

Gibb took home first place in the Senior Division with an 3-under-par 68. Gibb carded birdies on holes 8, 9 and 17; bogeys on holes 1 and 12 and a double bogey on hole 2. Runner up Bermel turned in a round of 1-under-par 70.

Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course took home first place in the Super Senior Division with a 1-over-par 72. Smith carded birdies on holes 4, 5 and 7 and bogeys on holes 2, 3, 9 and 16. Life Member Dave Ranney and Jim Henry of EK Golf both tied for runner up with rounds of 4-over-par 75.

Iowa PGA Pro-Assistant & Pro-Pro May 16, 2022 | Short Hills Country Club

East Moline, Illinois – Jay Giannetto and Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club won the Pro-Assistant. Giannetto and Jennings turned in round of 9-under-par 63.

Giannetto and Jennings; Jennings and Zach Steffen of Terrace Hills Golf Course and Chris Black of Hickory Grove Golf Course and Tracy Vest of Blue Top Ridge all tied for first place for the Pro-Assistant. Giannetto, Jennings, Steffen, Black and Vest turned in rounds of 9-under-par 63.

Teams for Pro-Assistant & Pro-Pro were comprised of 2 team divisions Pro-Assistant & ProPro competing in an 18-Hole, 1 Best Ball of 2 Gross, Team Event Only - no individual event associated with this tournament.

Thanks to Evolve Golf for putting on the total driving challenge held on hole #4 where the winners are determined by driving distance, combined with driving accuracy and the winners are first place Jay Giannetto, second place Brian Delaney of Davenport Country Club and third place John Thompson.

McCarty PGA Championship May 19-22, 2022 | Southern Hills Country Club

Tulsa, Oklahoma – Sean McCarty competed in the 2022 PGA Championship on May 19-22, 2022, in Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

McCarty’s first round he carded 1, 2, 4, 8, 14 and 15 including double bogeys on holes 11, 17 and 18 which placed him 156th place. McCarty’s one-day is total 39-43=82, +12 on the Wanamaker Course.

McCarty’s second round he carded bogeys on holes 2, 4, 5, 7, 10, 13 and 15 including double bogey on hole 9. McCarty’s two-day is total 82-79=161, +21. McCarty missed the 36-hole cut at 144, +4 for the tournament.

Proehl KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship May 26-29, 2022 | Harbor Shores

Bentor Harbor, Michigan – Chad Proehl of Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course is competing in the 2022 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship on May 26-29 in Bentor Harbor, Michigan at Harbor Shores Golf Club.

Proehl’s first round he carded a birdie on hole 2 including bogeys on holes 7, 8 and 12. Proehl’s one-day total 36-35=73, +2.

Proehl’s second round he carded birdies on holes 3 and 13; bogeys on holes 1, 5, 8, 10 and 17 including double bogeys on holes 7 and 14. Proehl’s two-day total 73-78=151, +9. Proehl missed the 36-hole cut at 144. =8 for the tournament.

Iowa PGA Team All-Pro June 6, 2022 | The Preserve on Rathbun Lake

Moravia, Iowa – Tracy Vest, Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course, Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club and Zachary Hoffman of Guttenberg Golf Club; Darin Fisher of The Preserve of Rathbun Lake, Matt Erger of Airport National Golf Complex, John Shawver of Fore Seasons Golf Practice Center and Nate Mohrhauser of Des Moines Golf & Country Club all tied for first place in the Team All Pro Monday, June 6 at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake. The teams scores of 13-under-par 121.

Teams for Team All Pro were comprised of four Iowa PGA Professionals competing in an 18-Hole Stroke Play, Team – 1 Best Ball of 4 on Par 5’s, 2 Best Balls of 4 on Par 4’s, 3 Best Balls of 4 on Par 3’s.

In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Team All Pro featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions.

Jennings took home first place in the Open Division with rounds of 8-under-par 64. Jennings turned in birdies on holes 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 11, 14 and 16. Runner-up Zach Steffen of Terrace Hills Golf Course and Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf all turned in 7-under-par 65.

Gibb took home first place in the Senior Division with round of 7-under-par 65. Gibb recorded birdies on holes 1, 2, 4, 5, 12, 14, 15 and 18 including a bogey on hole 10 in route to his victory. Runner-up Curt Schnell of Okoboji View Golf Course turned in 5-under-par 67.

Schnell won the Super Senior Division with round of 5-over-par 67. Schnell carded birdies on holes 1, 2, 5, 11, 12, 15 and 16 with bogeys on holes 6 and 7 in his win. Runner-up Jim Henry of EK Golf and Smith all turned in 3-over-par rounds of 75.

Junior Academy Stroke Play Event June 14, 2022 | Pheasant Ridge Golf Course

Cedar Falls, Iowa – Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf and Tracy Vest both tied for first place in the Individual Junior Academy Stroke Play event on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Gibb and Vest both turned in E-par round of 72. Gibb carded birdies on holes 3, 4 and 11 including bogeys on holes 10, 16 and 17. Vest carded birdies on holes 3, 4, 7 and 17 with an eagle on hole 17 including a double bogey on hole 10.

There was also a team event where Professionals were paired with three Junior Academy participants for a fun team event. The Junior Golfers played a three-person best shot (scramble) and the Professionals played their own ball. The team score was the better score of the two scores (1-best ball).

Gibb and his team of Lily Barker, Taylor Rasmussen, Kaden Kopsa and Joel Peterson won the Junior Academy Stroke Play Team event by shooting a 12-under par round of 60.

Tyler Faltys hole in one on #5 from 168 with a 7 iron. His first ever hole in one. Witnessed by Casey Harvey, Hannah Patrick, Lillian Dehner and Charlie Ford. Congratulations Tyler!

Junior Academy Senior Stroke Play Event June 15, 2022 | Pheasant Ridge Golf Course

Cedar Falls, Iowa – Curt Schnell of Okoboji View Golf Course won the Individual Junior Academy Senior Stroke Play event on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Schnell turned in a 2-under-par round of 70 to capture the win. Schnell carded birdies on holes 3, 8 and 12 including a bogey on hole 5.

Terry Anderson of Elks Country Club and Schnell both tied for first place in the Super Senior Division with a 2-under-par round of 70.

There was also a team event where Professionals were paired with three Junior Academy participants for a fun team event. The Junior Golfers played a three-person shambles and the Professionals played their own ball. The team score was two best balls of four.

John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course and his team of Shaylin Munson, Gabe Kramer and Kate Altorfer and Hannah Bermel and her team of Han nah Patrick, Kaden Kopsa and Joel Peterson tied for first place in the Junior Academy Senior Stroke Play Team event by shooting 4-under-par 140.

Boy Scouts Pro-Am June 20, 2022 | Davenport Country Club

Pleasant Valley, Iowa – Pleasant Valley, Iowa – The Champions of the Boy Scouts Pro-Am presented by Boy Scouts of America are David Lawrence of Davenport Country Club and his team of Derek Cockell, Matt Spray, Scott Jensen and Brad Lucas with 54 quota points.

The teams of John Panek of Davenport Country Club and teammates Lee Stack, Jim Von Maur, John Staak and Scott McDonald and team Allan Miller of Tour Edge and teammates Ryan Palmer, Andrew Palmer, Ben Palmer and John Rock finished the event with 46 quota points.

Teams for Boy Scouts Pro-AM were comprised of 18-Hole, Individual Stableford with Open, Senior & Super Senior Division. Boy Scouts will supply amateurs.

In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Boy Scouts Pro-AM featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions.

Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club won the Open Division finished with 31 quota points. Runner up Darin Fisher of The Preserve on Rathbun Lake finished with 29 quota points.

Curt Schnell of Okoboji View Golf Course also won the Senior Division with 28 quota points. Runner up Chris Black of Hickory Grove Golf Course finished with 23 quota points.

Schnell won the Super Senior Division.
