Pheasant Ridge Golf Course | Cedar Falls, Iowa | July 11, 2022

Cedar Falls, Iowa – Winners crowned in the Iowa PGA Pro-Junior played on July 11, 2022, at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Teams for Iowa PGA Pro-Junior were comprised of one Professional and three Juniors amateurs competing in an 18-Hole, Individual Low Pro and Team 2 Best balls of 4 gross.

Senior Boys Division Team Winners

Iowa PGA Professional Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club and his team of Jack McCarty, Zach McCarty and Charlie Allen won the Senior Boys Team Division (ages 14-17) with a team total of 11-under-par 133. Darin Fisher of The Preserve on Rathbun Lake and his team of Connor Fisher, Cael Schofield and Landen Simpson finished second in the Senior Boys Team Division with a 8-under-par 136. Mark Atchison of Des Moines Golf & Country Club and his team of Blake Cronin, Braeden Nelson and Remick Elfers and Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course and his team of Terpstra, Ryan Carriker and Linus Morrison all tied for third place with a 5-under-par 139.

Junior Boys Division Team Winners

Paul DelVecchio of Crow Valley Golf Club and his team of Michael Koury, Charles Koury and Sophia Miller won the Junior Boys Team Division (ages 13 & Under) with a team total of 2-over-par 146. Adam Luehmann of Beaver Hills Country Club and his team of Jackson Kettner, Cam Brenden and Kiefer Petersen finished in second in the Junior Boys Team Division with a 3-over-par 147. Mike Downing of Iowa PGA Section and his team of Tyler Downing, Alex Jacobs and Thatcher Crawford finished behind them in third place with a 16-over-par 160. Boy Scouts of America, Illowa Council located in Davenport, had a $20k winner in their annual Pro-Am held at the Davenport Country Club June 20th. Scout Executive, Jeff Doty, said that he is honored to have the sponsorship of Pfitz’s Fence and Deck that made it possible for the win to occur. Steve Barnett, the winner, is shown here accepting the check from Jeff Doty and sponsor Kyle Pfitzenmier.

Finkbine Golf Course | Iowa City, Iowa | July 18, 2022

Iowa City, Iowa - Brian Wernimont of Brown Deer Golf club and John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course won the Junior-Senior Draw Monday, July 18 at Finkbine Golf Course. Wernimont and Bermel turned in an 8-under-par round of 32-32=64 to capture the win.

Teams for Junior-Senior Draw were comprised of two Iowa Section PGA Professionals competing in a one best ball of 2 gross.

Zach Steffen of Terrace Hills Golf Course and Ken Schall of Ken Schall Golf Performance Studio turned in round of 2936=65 to come in second place.

In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Junior-Senior Draw featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions.

Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club claimed first place in the Open Division with a 4-under-par 68. McCarty carded birdies on holes 1, 6, 8, 11, 14 and 15 including bogeys on holes 4 and 10. Runner-up Bryan Luedtke of Bunker Links Golf Course and Bermel both turned in 3-under-par 69.

Luedtke and Bermel both tied for first place in the Senior Division with a 3-under-par 69. Luedtke carded birdies on holes 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 16 including bogeys on holes 3, 4, 6 and 18. Bermel carded birdies on holes 1, 10, 11 and 15; an eagle on hole 2; a bogey on holes 5 including a double bogey on hole 4.

Bermel won the Super Senior Division. Runner-up Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course turned in even-par 72.

Elmwood Country Club | Marshalltown, Iowa | July 25-26, 2022

Marshalltown, Iowa – Jay Giannetto of Elmwood Country Club wins the Iowa PGA Professional Championship on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Elmwood Country Club. He will lead five (5) Iowa PGA Section Professionals to compete in the 56th PGA Professional Championship, May 15-21, 2023, at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.

Giannetto turned in a winning total of 70-65-67=202, 8-under-par to capture the Iowa PGA Professional Championship. This is Giannetto’s first Iowa PGA Professional Championship title. Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club (68-6471=202) and Chad Proehl of Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course (68-64-71=203) were runners-up, finishing at 7-under-par.

Proehl captured the Senior Division Title as well with rounds of 67-68-68=203 to sit 7-under-par. John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Club and Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf both turned in 1-under-par.

The Super Senior Division was won by Bermel with rounds of 71-68-70=209 for a total of 1-under-par. Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course carded 66-73-74=213 with a 3-over-par to finish runner up.

Giannetto is joined by McCarty, Proehl, Matt Erger of Airport National Golf Complex and Ben Montgomery of Airport National Golf Complex. These five Iowa PGA Professionals will be competing in the 56th PGA Professional Championship, May 15-21, 2023, at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York. The alternates in order are Darin Fisher of The Preserve on Rathbun Lake, Gibb, Bermel and Jeff Schmid of Brown Deer Golf Club.

Blue Top Ridge | Riverside, Iowa | July 29-31, 2022

Riverside, Iowa – Matthew Meneghetti of Schererville, Indiana won the 89th Iowa Open presented by Riverside Casino and Golf Resort held on July 29-31 at Blue Top Ridge at Riverside. Meneghetti turned in rounds of 68-66-65=199, 17 under par to claim the Championship.

Meneghetti carded a final round 65 with birdies on holes 3, 4, 8, 9, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 18 including a bogey on holes 5 and 10 to complete his Championship. Meneghetti finished as runner-up in 2021 Iowa Openafter setting the course record of 12-under-par 60 in the second round.

Zach Steffen of West Des Moines, Iowa finished in second place alone with rounds of 68-65-69=202, 14 under par. Andre Metzger of Scottsdale, Arizona (6869-68=205), Andrew Beckler of Topeka, Kansas

(67-68-70=205) and Brendan O’Reilly of Jupiter, Florida (66-68-71=205) tied for third place at 11-under-par.

Open Amateur Division was won by Chad McCarty of North Liberty, Iowa with rounds of 75-66-70=211, 5-under-par. Seven other amateurs made the 36-hole cut. Please go to the leaderboard to see how each player finished.

Jeff Schmid of Iowa City, Iowa defended his 2021 Title and won this year’s Iowa Open - Senior Division (50+ years of age) with rounds of 72-69-68=209. 7-under-par. Schmid recorded an eagle on 12 and birdies on holes 3,5, and 7 including a bogey on hole number 1 to win the Championship. His senior title goes along with his Iowa Open Championship won in 2000. Roy Biancalana of St. Charles, IL finished alone in second place with rounds of 73-73-73=219, 3-over-par.

Open Senior Amateur Division was won by Jay Gregory of Lineville, Iowa with rounds of 74-76-72=222, 6-over-par, Jeff Collett was the only other Senior Amateur to make the cut and finished in second place with rounds of 71-80-75=226, 10 over-par.

In the first year of the Iowa Open – Super Senior Division (60+ years of age), John Bermel of Cedar Falls, Iowa won with rounds of 74-71-74=219, 3-over-par. Bermel carded birdies on holes 4,6,15 and bogeys on holes 5,7,10 and 16 to win the first ever Super Senior Division Championship. This goes along with his Senior Division Championship won in 2018. In second place was Dave Ranney of Lamoni, Iowa with rounds of 74-76-74=224, 8-over-par.

Open Super Senior Amateur Division was won by Pat Ryan of Marshalltown, Iowa with rounds of 74-76-78=228, 12-overpar.

Glen Oaks Country Club | West Des Moines, Iowa | August 15, 2022

West Des Moines, Iowa – The Iowa PGA hosted the NB Golf Cars/M & M Golf Cars Iowa PGA Foundation Pro-Am presented by the Iowa Golf Association at Glen Oaks Country Club in Des Moines on Monday, August 15.

PGA General Manager John Panek led his Davenport Country Club team consisting of Jeff Hassel, Chad Kelley and Steve VanDerSchaaf to the Team Title with a Stableford score of 16 points. The second-place team was PGA Head Professional Chris Black of Hickory Grove Golf Course as he led Jennifer Black, Billy Fratske and Logan Schweinefus with a score of 14 points.

Teams for Iowa PGA Foundation Pro-Am were comprised of one Professional and three amateurs competing in an 18Hole Individual Low Pro and Team Event Quota System.

In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Iowa PGA Foundation featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions.

Panek and McCarty both tied for first in the Open Division with a 3-under-par round of 68. Panek carded birdies on holes 2, 6, 9 and 10 including a bogey on hole 1. McCarty carded birdies on holes 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11 including bogeys on holes 17 and 18.

Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf took home first place in the Senior Division with a 2-over-par round of 69. Gibb recorded birdies on holes 11, 14, 15 and 17 including bogeys on holes 2 and 9 in route to his victory. John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course carded a round of 1-under-par 70 to claim second-place.

Bermel won the Super Senior Division with a 1-over-par round of 70. Bermel carded birdies on holes 6, 15 and 16 including bogeys on holes 5 and 17 in his win. Joe Butler of Burlington Golf Club, Jim Henry of EK Golf and Jeff Smith of Oskaloosa Golf Course all tied carded a round of 7-over-par 78 to claim second-place. Dave Ranney, life member carded a round of even-par 71 to claim second place.

Briarwood Golf Club | Ankeny, Iowa | August 22, 2022

Ankeny, Iowa – John Bermel and Jacob Bermel both of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course won the Iowa PGA Pro-Select, Monday, August 22 at Briarwood Golf Club. Bermel’s turned in a 13-under-par round of 30-31-34=95 to capture the win.

Teams for Iowa PGA Pro-Select were comprised of two Iowa Section PGA Professionals competing in a 27 Holes, 9 Holes scramble, 9 holes best ball and 9 holes alternate shot.

Sean McCarty and Jeff Schmid both of Brown Deer Golf Club came in second place with 11-under-par 97.

Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course & South Hills Golf Course | Waterloo, Iowa | August 24-25, 2022

Waterloo, Iowa – Chad Proehl of Sugar Creek Golf Course wins the Iowa PGA Senior PGA Professional Championship on Thursday, August 25 at South Hills Golf Course and will lead four Section PGA Professionals to compete on October 1316, in the 34th Senior PGA Professional Championship. Proehl turned in a total score of 10-under-par, 67-67=134 to capture the win.

Proehl defeated Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf in a three-hole sudden death playoff. Proehl and Gibb turned in 2-day totals of 10-under par 134. Proehl carded birdies on holes 2, 7, 8, 11, 13 and 18 including a bogey on hole 15.

Proehl is joined by Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf, Jeff Schmid of Brown Deer Golf Club and Sean McCarty of Brown Deer Golf Club. Alternates for the National Championship are Bryan Luedtke of Bunker Links Golf Course, Chris Black of Hickory Grove Golf Course, John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course and Life Member Dave Ranney.

The Super Senior Division was won by John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course with rounds of 74-70=144 for a total of even-par. Bermel carded birdies on 6, 7, 10 and 17; an eagle on hole 13 including bogeys on holes 11, 14, 15 and 18. Runner-up was Life Member Dave Ranney with rounds of 75-71=146 for a total of 2-over-par.

Blue Top Ridge | Riverside, Iowa | August 29, 2022

Riverside, Iowa – Nate Lubs and Andrew Thomas of Gates Park Golf Course won the Harris Golf Cars Pro-Facility Monday, August 29 at Blue Top Ridge. Lubs and Thomas turned in a team total of +17 quota points to capture the win.

Teams for Harris Golf Cars Pro-Facility were comprised of one PGA Professional and one Amateur competing in a team event Quota System.

Chad Proehl and Greg Mahon of Sugar Creek Golf Course turned in a team totals of +16 quota points to finish for second place.

In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Harris Golf Cars Pro-Facility featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions.

Darin Fisher of The Preserve on Rathbun Lake and Chad Proehl both tied for first place in the Open Division with a 6-under-par 66.

Proehl won the Senior Division with a 6-under-par 66. Proehl carded birdies on holes 1, 2, 4, 9, 12 and 17; an eagle on hole 15 including bogeys on holes 7 and 18. Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf came in second place with 5-under-par 67.

Jeff Smith of Harvest Point Golf Course won the Super Senior Division with a 2-over-par 70. Smith carded birdies on holes 9, 10 and 12; an eagle on hole 17 including bogeys on holes 3, 4 and 11. John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course came in second place with even-par 72.

Riverside, Iowa – Zach Steffen of Terrace Hills Golf Course wins the National Car Rental Iowa Assistant PGA Professional Championship on September 7, 2022, at Blue Top Ridge. The Champion of this event will qualify for the 46th National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship to be held on November 17-20, 2022 at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. We will have three alternates.

Steffen turned in a winning total of 71-64=135, 9-under-par to capture the National Car Rental Iowa Assistant PGA Professional Championship title. This is his second National Car Rental Iowa Assistant PGA Professional Championship title having also won in 2021. Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club was runner-up, finishing at 69-68=137, 7-Under-par.

The champion will be competing in the 46th National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship, November 17-20, 2022, at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Sherrard, Illinois – Teams of Ryan McClintock of Short Hills Country Club and Matt Schlueter; Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf and Cole Jaeschke tie in Pro-Scratch; McClintock and Dave Waugh; David Lawrence of Davenport Country Club and Ritchie Painter tied in Pro-Senior Scratch on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Fyre Lake Golf Club.

Teams for Pro-Scratch/Pro-Senior Scratch were comprised of one Professional and one Amateur competing in an 18-hole, Team 1 Best Ball of 2 gross.

McClintock and Schlueter; Gibb and Jaeschke both team turned in 8-under-par round of 62 for the Pro-Scratch.

McClintock and Waugh; Lawrence and Painter both team turned in 6-under-par round of 64 for the Pro-Senior Scratch.

In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Pro-Scratch/Pro-Senior Scratch featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior, Super Senior Divisions, Low Amateur and Low Senior Amatetur.

There was a four-way tie for first place in the Open Division with Gibb, Ben Montgomery of Airport National Golf Complex, Lawrence and Matt Jennings of Elmwood Country Club all turned in 2-under-par round of 68.

Gibb claimed first place in the Senior Division. Runner-up Chris Black of Hickory Grove Golf Course turned in 1-under-par round of 69.

Ken Schall of Ken Schall Performance Studios claimed first place in the Super Senior Division with a 2-over-par round of 72.

Cody Bender claimed first place in the Low Amateur Division with a 2-under-par 68. Bender carded birdies on holes 5, 10, 13 and 17 including bogeys on holes 4 and 12. There was a three-way tie for second place with Matt Schlueter, Chad McCarty and Patrick Hall all turned in 1-over-par round of 71.

Waugh claimed first place in the Low Senior Amateur Division with a 2-over-par 72. Runner-up Painter turned in a round of 5-over-par round of 75.

Des Moines Golf & Country Club | Des Moines, Iowa | September 16, 2022

Des Moines, Iowa – Morgan McMillan of Oneota Golf & Country Club won the Iowa PGA Women’s Professional Championship on Friday, September 16 at Des Moines Golf & Country Club. Format for today’s event is an 18hole stroke play. McMillan turned in a winning total of 77, 5-over-par to capture the Iowa PGA Women’s Professional Championship.

McMillan carded birdies on holes 10 and 11 including bogeys on holes 2, 6, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 18. Runner-up Janet Rooney of Des Moines Golf & Country Club was runner-up, finishing at 78, 6-over-par.

Lacoma Golf Club | East Dubuque, Illinois | September 19, 2022

East Dubuque, Illinois – The Junior Team won Junior vs Senior Team Event on Monday, September 19 at Lacoma Golf. Teams will be formed based on equal split of section members based on age. Team format will consist of 10 best balls gross, on each hole. Teams will be split evenly following deadline. The Junior Team was led by Davis Sutton as they shot 23-under-par score of 403 to defeat the Senior Team.

The Section was divided into team members from the Junior and team members from the Senior. In addition to the team event, the Junior vs Senior Team Event featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions.

The Open Division winner Davis Sutton of Cedar Rapids Country Club fired a 3-under-par round of 68. Sutton carded birdies on holes 1, 3, 6, 8 and 11 including bogeys on holes 5 and 18. Brian Lorenz of Spirit Hollow Golf Course, Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf and Darin Fisher of The Preserve on Rathbun Lake all tied for second place in the Open Division. Lorenz, Gibb and Fisher all carded even-par scores of 71.

The Senior Division winner Gibb fired an even-par score of 71. Gibb carded birdies on holes 1 and 4 including bogeys on holes 11 and 13. John Bermel of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course and Bryan Luedtke of Bunker Links Golf Course both tied for second place in the Senior Division. Bermel and Luedtke both carded 1-over-par scores of 72.

The Super Senior Division winner Bermel fired a 1-over-par score of 79. Bermel carded birdies on holes 6 and 8 including bogeys on holes 7, 10 and 13. Terry Anderson of Elks Country Club placed second in the Super Senior Division with a round 8-over-par score of 79.

Ames, Iowa – Ben Montgomery of Airport National Golf Complex and his team of Craig Furnish, Phil Hansen and Ron Kotaska won the Pro-Senior Monday, September 26 at Ames Golf & Country Club. Team Montgomery turned in 7 quota points to capture the win.

Teams for Pro-Senior were comprised of one Professional and three Senior Amateurs competing in a modified Stableford Scoring system.

Curt Schnell of Okoboji View Golf Course and his team of Jim Hauer, Max Lamb and Mike Lamb and John Thompson of Prairie Links Golf & Event Center and his team of Rick Mogren, Chuck Sipple and Darrel Wenzel both tied for second-place who both turned in 4 quota points.

In addition to the team event, the Iowa PGA Pro-Senior featured individual competitions for the Open, Senior and Super Senior Divisions.

Montgomery took home first place in the Open Division with 3-under-par round of 68. Montgomery carded birdies on holes 2, 3, 8 and 15 including a bogey on hole 16. Chad Proehl of Sugar Creek Golf Course turned in 1-under-par round of 70 to come in second place in the Open Division.

Proehl took home first place in the Senior Division. Proehl carded birdies on holes 4, 13 and 14 including bogeys on holes 8 and 16. Judd Gibb of Hanson’s Custom Golf turned in even-par round of 71 to come in second place in the Senior Division.

Schnell took home first place in the Super Senior Division. Schnell carded birdies on holes 3, 9, 13 and 18 including bogeys on holes 2, 7, 12 and 14. Life Member Larry Castagnoli turned in 8-over-par round of 79.
