SOROR WENDY B. JACQUES NATIONAL PRESIDENT ELECT Sorors, November is here, and we have much to be thankful for during this season of Thanksgiving. As National President Elect, I’m thankful for your commitment to further the mission of Iota Phi Lambda and the love and support of each other that is demonstrated through your actions of kindness and compassion. In my role, I coordinate the Evelyn D. Wilkey Essay Contest, Iota’s scholarships, and conduct informative Iota talks. I’m excited to also work with the Pelatis, Men of Iota, and Future Iota Leaders Auxiliaries. The key to our collaborative success is ensuring our auxiliaries have the resources needed to assist with Iota’s programs and projects. Equally important is our commitment to providing life skills and professional training to the FIL to become productive citizens. National President Elect is my official title, but who exactly is Wendy B. Jacques? I am a legacy of our great sisterhood. I’ve known and been a part of Iota all my life. My mother, Talmadge M. Jacques, was pregnant with me as she journeyed into Iotaland. I was a Future Iota Girl and participated in many Iota events. In January 1999, my true journey in Iota began when I joined Psi Chapter in Dallas, Texas. In May 2013, nine sorors and I chartered Epsilon Tau Chapter in DeSoto, Texas, to expand Iota’s reach. Being a member of Iota Phi Lambda has allowed me to hone my leadership skills and serve as chair of several committees, Dean of Intake, Chapter President, National Recording Secretary, and Assistant Southwestern Regional Director. In 2017, I was bestowed the highest honor a soror can receive, the Mahala S. Evans National Outstanding Soror of the Year. In 1996, I began my professional career with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 6, Dallas. For 27 years, I have worked in the areas of air pollution prevention, land waste remediation, and currently I’m the Ocean Dumping Coordinator managing and monitoring ship channel dredge events and ocean disposal sites. I’ve found joy in working to protect human health and preserve Mother Earth. My B. S. degree in Biology from Prairie View A&M University opened the door to my adventures at the U.S. EPA. While at Prairie View, my education was priority, but the Marching Storm Band is where I found my discipline to manage my studies and the thrills of college life. My flute and I performed many halftime shows and spent several nights studying in Harrington Science and Hobart Taylor buildings. Prairie View is a family thing, and my heart lives there. This February 11th Aquarian loves being near and in the water, watching horror and sappy movies, traveling with my girls, and never meeting a stranger. I look forward to connecting with each of you as we propel Iota’s mission through ingenuity and intentional purpose. All the Best, Wendy B. Jacques National President Elect Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.
