The celebration of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Business Week was proposed at the first National Convention held in 1933. The second week in April was selected as the time for this observance. Today, we celebrate and recognize the entire monthofAprilasBusinessMonth.Theoriginalestablishedprogramfoundationfor Business Week program activities, is still relevant and observed today. The wise intentionalplanningforprogramactivitiesthatwereestablishedoverninety-one years ago, and practiced today with contemporary ingenuity is amazing. Throughout each region, public programs are done, outstanding business individuals are selected and celebrated African American businesses are supported financially and through partnerships Youth participation and involvement has been elevated from small workshops to today’s recognition as youngentrepreneurs
BusinessMonthisthelargestprogramthatweobserveinIotaPhiLambdaSorority It has grown with such creativity, from in-person public events, to connecting audiences through digital transformation, community collaborations and partnerships The commitment of raising awareness in each respective community throughout Iota land, does not go unnoticed Business honorees and community service individuals selected are the best of the best in their business careersandvocations
AccordingtoWomen’sBusinessEnterprise42%ofallUS businessesareownedby women There are 13 million women-owned businesses in the US and counting AfricanAmericanwomenownanestimated58,974businesseshiringatleastone employee,foratotalofabout481,930employees.AfricanAmericanwomenwere thefastestgrowingsmallbusinessownerswithstartupsduringCOVID-19.
The work that Iota Phi Lambda Sorority does throughout the year, and especially during April, in support of recognizing business owners and community outreach to individuals is noteworthy. Advocating and financially supporting African American businesses should be our daily goal as a Business and Professional organization,withintentionalpurpose,notonlyinAprilofeachyear.
We salute our Sorors that are business owners and entrepreneurs, for your courage and ingenuity to show up and stand each day for financial independence,asapartofeconomicempowermentforyourselfandyourfamily.

TheCentralRegionConference,hostedbyAlphaBetaChapter,tookplacefromMarch8-10,2024,inChicago,IL,under the theme “Success Through Holistic Personal and Professional Life Balance” Soror Dr Cheryl Scott, Regional Director, andSororGinaBlanksBarrypresidedovervariousbusinesssessions.Withover60attendees,including8first-timers,the event was a bustling hub of Iota business and camaraderie We were honored to have our 24th National President, Charlotte D Berry, in attendance, along with three esteemed White Rose Queens: Dorothy White (23rd), Stephanie Dilworth(22nd),andMarcellaMorrison(17th).
Throughout the conference, we were privileged to hear from inspiring speakers Dr Ann Jackson kickstarted the event, emphasizing the importance of health as wealth and leading Sorors in creating vision boards to promote the well-being of young women The Educational Forum, led by three FILS, provided invaluable insights into stress management and overcoming challenges in academic settings. Our 24th National President, Charlotte Berry gave an inspiring message, encouraging Sorors not to be afraid to give up the good for the great Rev Rochelle Hambrick deliveredapowerfulmessageonSunday,reigniting ourpassionforourmission.

In addition to engaging sessions, Sorors enjoyed bonding activities such as blanket-making, stepping, and dancingattheSneakerBall AwardswerepresentedtorecognizeoutstandingcontributionstoinitiativeslikeGood HealthWins,aswellasyearsofservice,attendance,newsletterexcellence,andmore.KarenWilliams-Aguirre,the Year of the Woman Influencer, was honored with a sash and award from Soror Stephanie Dilworth, president of LMPF.








The conference concluded with a touching tribute to Sorors who have passed on, an inspirational service, the induction of officers for 2024, and a video presentation by Alpha Zeta for the 45th CentralRegionConferenceto be held in St. Louis, MO in 2025
