FAMILY EVENTS BORN 2 PERFORM PRESENTS

BEAUTY & THE BEAST

This Christmas, Íontas Theatre teams up with Born2Perform stage school to bring you timeless classic BEAUTY & THE BEAST! OH YES IT IS!!! Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle and the dreaded Beast in his lonely castle. Belle is beautiful, the Beast is – ahem – beastly and Gaston is still totally in love, with himself! Their lives entwine when Belle becomes imprisoned in the Beast’s castle and has to contend with a host of well-meaning crockery. Gaston quickly decides he is the only man to save her (and think of the super cool selfies he’ll get leading the angry mob!), while the Beast gradually changes his scary ways when faced with Belle’s beauty. Putting their own unique twist on this timeless fairy-tale, Born2Perform stage school is the most renowned in the North-East. Run by Gavin Quigley, Born2Perform has been in operation for over 10 years, with over 300 kids from schools in Carrickmacross, Castleblayney, Monaghan Town, Ardee Kingscourt, Cootehill, Baileboro and Ballybay. These shows will run over 5 days and 6 nights with a total of 11 performances. So don’t delay, buy your tickets today! School Shows: 10.30am | Monday 11th-Friday 15th December Evening Shows: 7.30pm | Monday 11th-Saturday 16th December General Admission: €16 / €13 (under 18’s & over 65’s) Schools: €8, Teachers Free (ltd to 1 teacher per 10 children)

VISUAL ART EXHIBITIONS

Donal McEnroe

RETROSPECTIVE

Photos from County Monaghan

This year Iontas will mark Culture Night with a special event celebrating the work of Annyalla based photographer Donal McEnroe. Over the last 45 years Donal has documented events people and places in County Monaghan. It is a unique photographic archive of a county and people that has undergone significant social change in that time. This exhibition focuses on a pre-digital age of analogue technology and artisanal craft, hallmarks of a gentler pace of life. However, this was a border community that lived in the shadow of ‘The Troubles’ a reality reflected in photographs taken by Donal in the aftermath of the Monaghan and Castleblayney bombings of the mid 1970’s. Date: Friday 22nd September – Thursday 19th October

VISUAL ART EXHIBITIONS

Finn Harper

PORTRAITS

Finn Harper’s traditional music-inspired artwork has become a hugely popular addition to many arts and music festivals in Ireland and internationally. His exceptional portrait work brings to life a wide range of renowned past and present-day Irish musicians - from Andy Irvine, to Christy Moore, to Micho Russell, to Matt Molloy, among others. Originally from County Wexford, Finn is himself an accomplished musician. In 2015 during a short music residency in Florida, USA, Finn tried his hand at drawing portraits of Irish musicians that inspired and influenced him over the years, and he hasn’t looked back since! As a special treat, Finn will visit Íontas during the festival to draw a portrait live, in front of our very eyes! See page 16 for further details. Date: Thursday 19th October – Thursday 16th November

Workhouse Art Group

GROUP EXHIBITION

Professional artist Orlagh Meegan-Gallagher established The Workhouse Art Group in 2010 in order to teach painting, drawing and creative development to enthusiastic art lovers from all walks of life. Some students have been members for years and others are beginners, but all have one thing in common, their passion for art, which is demonstrated in the diversity and quality of the work they produce. This exhibition is a vibrant testimony to Orlagh’s total belief that art is for sharing and the student’s dedication to learning and personal development.
