Inspired by the Gospel of Jesus and the life of Venerable Nano Nagle, Iona Presentation College challenges and encourages students to become reflective, purposeful, and courageous young citizens who make a difference to the world.
MISSION
To provide a nurturing, vibrant, holistic, and contemporary Catholic education in the Presentation Spirit that guides individuals and enables them to reach their full potential.
VALUES
Heritage and Tradition, Excellence, Community, Social Justice and Compassion, Courage and Integrity, Love of Learning
For more than 118 years, Iona Presentation College has been a place where young people grow in faith, knowledge and service.
Our Strategic Plan 2026–2030 is both a map and a mission — shaped by our Presentation history and focused on future opportunities. This plan reflects the future of our students - Ionians who shine brightly in the world, carrying forward the light of Nano Nagle.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Robyn Miller
B.Ed., M.Ed(RE), M.Ed.L
The words of Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn”, beautifully reflect the enduring spirit of learning at Iona Presentation College. This simple truth captures the heart of what we believe: that learning is a lifelong journey, not a destination.
Each day, I am inspired by our students and the broader Iona community - all Ionians - for their ability to find meaning, purpose and joy in an ever-changing world. From the curiosity of our youngest learners to the wisdom of our Golden Girls, the Love of Learning at Iona is alive and flourishing.
In the Primary Years, students approach learning with wide-eyed wonder and joyful enthusiasm. Their experiences are shaped by creativity, collaboration and a deep sense of connection. Through play, discovery and shared moments, they begin to understand the power of learning together.
In the Middle Years, our students navigate transitions; personal, social and academic. These formative years are marked by growing selfawareness and resilience, and the unfolding of identity.
Learning develops into a journey of becoming, of exploring who they are and who they wish to be.
In the Senior Years, learning deepens. Students engage with increasingly complex concepts, embrace challenge and pursue their personal best with determination and integrity. They begin to cast their eyes beyond school, preparing to contribute meaningfully to the world with confidence and compassion.
At Iona, learning is more than an academic pursuit; it is the foundation of who we are. It is the wonder in a child’s eyes, the courage to grow through change, the striving for excellence and the wisdom to keep asking questionsat every age and stage.
The Love of Learning at Iona does not end with graduation; it begins here and lasts a lifetime.
SHINING BRIGHTER
Before we chart our direction forward, we return to the heart of who we are. This is the story that shapes our future and guides our next chapter.
In a world marked by complexity, acceleration, and constant change, the Ionian spirit remains a steady light. For more than 118 years, generations of Ionians have stood as a testament to values that do not waver—faith, courage, compassion, and community. While what it means to be an Ionian may continue to evolve, the essence remains unchanged.
Ionians are unique, but their words and deeds echo a shared foundation. They make not just a difference, but a Christian difference—together. They are grounded, resilient, and agile. They adapt to the needs of the world with grit and perseverance, guided by the values of Jesus Christ and the Presentation Sisters. They rise to challenge, uplift others, and walk humbly in service, ready to go one step beyond.
The heart of an Ionian is not ordinary. It beats with strength and sensitivity—formed through belonging, shaped by legacy, and illuminated by purpose. An Ionian embraces opportunity, leans into uncertainty, and holds true to the light within—always ready to carry the light of Nano Nagle for the good of others.
This Strategic Plan, I am an Ionian: Shining Brighter, is our shared vision towards 2030 and beyond. It reflects a commitment to ensuring that our students are not only prepared for a new era but are equipped to lead it.
They will do so anchored in tradition and propelled by transformation. Through our four guiding lights in the spirit of Nano Nagle, this plan invites us to light the way for others as we deepen, renew and reimagine the Ionian journey.
Guiding Lights
The pathway to shining brighter
Each of the guiding lights will contribute towards Ionians’ being about to shine brighter in this rapidly changing world. They present a bold vision, focus goals, and continuous improvement priorities.
Spirit
Carrying the legacy of the lantern from the Presentation Sisters into a new chapter of hope and opportunity.
At this unique time in our Presentation history, we take bold steps to reimagine the Presentation charism that has been entrusted to lay leadership. Inspired by Pope Leo XIV’s call for Catholics to serve at society’s margins, we commit to reaching the vulnerable. We strive to empower Ionians to be compassionate agents of transformation and carry the lantern for those who cannot. Guided by the Holy Spirit and the enduring values of our Presentation story, we move forward with faith, courage and purpose.
Curiosity
A dynamic ecosystem of self-directed learners, ethical innovators, and thriving minds.
Iona is a lighthouse of learning where minds are nurtured to explore, question, and create. Within the classroom, on the stage, in the lab, and across the playing fields, the spark of curiosity drives every Ionian to engage deeply and think boldly. This guiding light calls us to fuse time-tested wisdom with future-ready practices, creating space for ethical innovation and courageous thinking. Our legacy of academic excellence now evolves into a landscape where students lead their learning with passion, purpose, and imagination.
A lifelong network of confident, compassionate change-makers rooted in shared connection.
Sisterhood Growth
A thriving environment where courageous leaders and agile learners grow to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
At the centre of Iona is community. The welcoming heart of Ionians is one that continues to embrace all members to foster a safe, inclusive and connected community. The sisterhood of Ionians extends beyond current pupils, past pupils (IPPA), Presentation Sisters, and all those actively involved in Iona: parents, staff, and beyond. As the Catholic Church continues to deepen its understanding of accompaniment, Iona is called to be courageous in how it reaches out to allow more feel a deeper sense of connection.
This guiding light celebrates growth as a living process — where people can thrive, take risks and step into their own potential. As a learning organisation, Iona commits to the flourishing of staff as lifelong learners and the development of young leaders ready to face an uncertain future. Our infrastructure, systems, and learning environments are built to support not just what we do, but who we become. With hearts attuned to service, we grow to shine more brightly — not for ourselves, but for others.
THE LEGACY
Since its founding on 11 September 1907, Iona Presentation College has stood as a beacon of faith, learning, and service. Inspired by the courage and vision of five Presentation Sisters who journeyed to Western Australia with faith and a steadfast commitment to the Gospel, we continue to walk in the light they carried.
Guided by the spirit of Nano Nagle, who walked the streets of Cork, Ireland, to bring light, learning, and love to the poor and forgotten, we have inherited a legacy grounded in humility, perseverance, and an unwavering trust in God’s providence. Chosen by Bishop Gibney as a place of spiritual renewal inspired by the sacred Isle of Iona, our Mosman Park site has shaped our identity as a sanctuary of faith and learning for over 118 years.
The Presentation Sisters have given us more than a school; they have entrusted us with a sacred charism; a way of seeing and being in the world that is rooted in justice, compassion, hospitality, and simplicity.
Their lives have been a living Gospel, marked by tireless service to those on the margins, a strong moral compass, and a fierce belief in the transformative power of education. We honour the Sisters’ presence, wisdom, and enduring influence. Iona will always be their home, and their spirit will continue to shape our College identity and purpose.
As custodians of the Presentation story and spirit, we embrace a living call to action. In our students, staff, and families, we see its fruits: compassion in action, a thirst for justice, and deep respect for every person. We are called to be Presentation people of welcoming hearts: open to others, attentive to the vulnerable, and committed to creating a community where all are known, valued, and loved.
In 2017, the Presentation Sisters entrusted the governance of Iona to the Archbishop of Perth, marking a new chapter of lay leadership. Today, we stand at a both pivotal and historic moment for the Church and religious life; a time to carry the Presentation charism forward with creativity and conviction. As the Sisters enter a new phase of their governance journey as a Congregation, the mantle of responsibility falls firmly on lay people to nurture and reimagine this story for future generations.
We carry this legacy forward because the Gospel still calls us to love, serve, and act justly. The story of Nano Nagle and the Presentation Sisters is not finished; it lives on in us. With deep gratitude and bold hope, we believe in the power of Catholic education to transform lives and in the sacredness of every person. With God’s grace, the light of the Presentation charism will continue to shine brightly through us and generations to come. Like the acorn that grows into a mighty
oak, our story has flourished from humble beginnings into a canopy of faith, learning, and service, rooted in the Gospel and offering shelter, wisdom, and hope to all.
In the words of Jesus: “I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10). This fullness of life is our mission: to nurture young people who are grounded, faith-filled, and ready to shape a more just and compassionate world.
