Co-Curricular Attendance Policy Participation in athletics and co-curricular activities is a privilege that carries with it the expectation of regular school attendance. The following attendance policy applies to all students participating in athletics, clubs, student organizations, and other co-curricular activities. Athletic coaches, club moderators, and activity advisors work in collaboration with the Dean of Students in the administration of this policy. Students are expected to comply with the following attendance requirements: ● ●

A student who is absent on a Friday is ineligible to participate in any co-curricular activity or athletic event held on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. A student who is absent on the school day following a weekend or weekday game, match, contest, scrimmage, or other co-curricular event is ineligible for the next scheduled contest or event, unless the absence is verified by a physician's note. The physician's note must explicitly state that the student was medically unable to attend school due to illness. A student who is absent on the school day immediately preceding a school vacation is ineligible to participate in practices, scrimmages, contests, or other co-curricular activities until school resumes. A student who is absent on the day of a scheduled practice, game, contest, scrimmage, meeting, or activity is ineligible to participate in that day's event. Students must be present in school by the beginning of second period to be eligible to participate in any co-curricular activity or athletic event that day. The only exception is when a physician's note verifies that the student was medically unable to arrive at school on time due to illness or a medical appointment. Students who are tardy to school are still required to serve any assigned detention, regardless of the start time of a scheduled athletic or co-curricular event. Participation in extracurricular activities does not excuse a student from fulfilling disciplinary obligations. All inquiries regarding disciplinary obligations must be addressed with the Dean of Students in person. No adjustment or postponement will be accommodated via email. The Dean of Students and members of the administration are available at the conclusion of each school day at the top of the Academic Steps near the D'Urso Center to assist students, answer questions, and provide support as needed.
Please Note: The Dean of Students reserves the right to review extenuating circumstances and will make the final determination regarding a student's eligibility under this policy. Student Health, Wellness and Medical Policies Psychological Crisis Protocol: Iona Preparatory School is dedicated to nurturing the development of the whole person. To maintain a safe environment for all students, the school treats threats or instances of psychological crisis (including, but not limited to, expressions of suicidal ideation, severe self-harm, or acute psychiatric distress) with the utmost seriousness. Concussion Management and Awareness Protocol: In strict compliance with the New York State Concussion Management and Awareness Act, Iona Preparatory School implements a standardized, safetyfirst framework for any student who sustains a head injury or exhibits concussion-like symptoms. Immediate Removal: Any student suspected of sustaining a concussion during the school day, at an athletic practice, or during a competitive contest will be immediately removed from activity. 37
