MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Finding a meaningful way to assist one another, turning belief into action, and working toward shared goals are the driving forces that lift communities and make a difference, one person at a time. That’s why we are proud of our very own Eric Mangham, along with his wife Ashley for making a difference by co-chairing this year’s Chocolate Fantasy Ball. You truly live our mission of making a difference in our community. Thank you for all you do.

CTEH is proud to support Lourdes Mahoney as a dedicated Woman in STEAM. Her commitment to delivering quality data and innate skill of relaying needs to clients and coworkers keep CTEH running smoothly.

Every discovery starts as an idea. And in STEAM classrooms like Elicia Davis’, ideas are given space to thrive. She helps students make real-world connections to classroom concepts – and equips them with the tools to become well-rounded thinkers.

Congratulations, Ms. Davis!

As a non-traditional student, flexible scheduling was very important in choosing where I would complete my degree. UA Little Rock was one of the only colleges in Arkansas that offered a completely online accounting program. And my peers spoke very highly of the accounting program and professors at UA Little Rock. At Simmons Bank, I am able to leverage the knowledge and skills I acquired during my time in the accounting program at UA Little Rock to build lasting customer relationships and help my customers achieve their financial goals.

In addition to serving my customers, I also have a strong passion for serving the Little Rock community. I am a board member and Treasurer for The Hat Club and serve on the Taste of Little Rock Committee. The Hat Club is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that helps several charitable organizations through fundraising events. Taste of Little Rock raises funds for the UA Little Rock Alumni Association Scholarship Fund while introducing guests to some of the best food in the city from the finest restaurants in Little Rock.

I couldn’t be happier with my decision to attend UA Little Rock. I have stayed in touch with some of the professors and the opportunity to network with other UA Little Rock staff, students and new graduates.

Breathing Easy

Little Rock native, Shalonda Michelle, was an active young mother living in Fairbanks, Alaska, until one day she had trouble breathing and ended up in the emergency room with a pulmonary embolism. She suspected her illness might be the result of pollution from outdoor wood boilers. Michelle sought treatment at a hospital in Colorado, where a bronchoscope showed a cyst on her lungs. She was transported to a Seattle hospital for emergency surgery. When she suffered a second pulmonary embolism, Michelle came home to Arkansas where the air was cleaner. After undergoing tests at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, doctors found that she had Stage 4 throat cancer.

Under the care of Dr. Omar Atiq, medical oncologist, and Dr. Sanjay Maraboyina, radiation oncologist, Michelle underwent surgery and 33 radiation treatments. Despite the initial dire prognosis, she has been cancer free for seven years.

“I’ve just been blessed with miracles. I am very grateful to the medical team at UAMS. They are one of the few places that listened to my concerns and helped fix my problem with cancer.”
