Hello to healing.
Kindness is a gift that each of us is born with. And when we share it, the goodness that’s released is amazing. This human connection is important to our well-being, but it’s essential when we’re sick and hurting. We know from experience that treating every patient with kindness, empathy, and respect is key to their healing. We call this power humankindness. It has driven us for more than 130 years.
It advances the medical excellence we provide to our communities now. And it leads us forward every day.

Leadership that cares.
Great leaders build great relationships. And, George Burks does just that. He understands that leading first and foremost, is about service. He collaborates and connects with and, most importantly, cares about the people with whom he engages. Whether you meet him in a business suit in the boardroom or catch him performing in a lip-sync battle to raise money for a worthy cause, his commitment to the health and well-being of Arkansans is witnessed daily. George is committed to taking good care of the people he serves.

In 2005 Daryl Pusser lost 200 pounds after undergoing gastric bypass surgery. He slowly gained back a portion of this weight but stayed active in the gym and maintained a healthy weight by watching his diet. Gym closures due to COVID and stress-related eating brought him back close to his pre-surgery weight. Frustrated and worried about his health, in 2022 he asked his primary care doctor about a weight loss specialist and was referred to UAMS Health endocrinologist Dr. Dinesh Edem, director of the Medical Weight Management program. He’s lost 89 pounds under his care and is now back to the active lifestyle he enjoyed with his wife and daughter earlier.
“If you’re in a situation similar to mine, don’t be afraid to find a doctor like Dr. Edem who listens and genuinely wants to help. I didn’t go for a while because I thought I was just going to hear the same old diet and exercise advice. I’m glad I found the help I needed at UAMS Health.”
