Board Member Retirement

This fall one of our Board Members retired. We are forever grateful for his service and wish him all the best.

Jim Woodward retired from the Board in November after dedicating 38 years as a volunteer board member. He spent the last 12 years of service with InvesTex Credit Union after helping to merge his former credit union (Associates Mutual CU) into InvesTex CU. Jim and his wife have many plans and we wish them the very best!

Security Corner/ Fraud Awareness ATM Safety Tips Throughout the new year and beyond, InvesTex Credit Union urges you to exercise caution when using an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM); especially at night.

Follow these basic guidelines to protect yourself: • Memorize your PIN and never reveal it to anyone.

• Keep your card in a safe place, as you would cash or credit cards. Notify InvesTex immediately if your ATM/Debit Card is lost or stolen.

• Utilize an ATM located inside an open business whenever possible.

• Choose a well-lit ATM for evening transactions and park nearby or stay in your car if you use the drive-thru. If you do not feel secure, use another ATM. • Always be aware of suspicious persons or vehicles in the area of the ATM. Trust your gut feeling. If things don’t feel right, avoid that ATM. • Have your card out and ready to use before leaving your car.

• If others are waiting to use the ATM, be sure you enter your PIN out of their view.

• When you receive your cash, pocket it immediately and count it later in a safe place. Remember the money is not worth getting hurt over.

• Always take your receipt with you.

• Do not discuss your accounts with anyone.

• Report all robberies to police as soon as possible by calling 911.

IN VES T EX SCHOLA RSH I P AN N O U NCEMENT The Board of Directors has once again approved the awarding of six (6) $1,000 Scholarships. The Board and all of us at InvesTex recognize the importance of higher education. We are proud to make these scholarships available. Here are the requirements and application information.

Eligibility Requirements • Applicant must be a primary member of InvesTex Credit Union.

A primary member is defined as a credit union member with a share/savings account established in his/her own name.

• Applicant’s account must be in good standing.

• Applicant must be a high school senior.

• Applicant must plan on attending an accredited college, community college, university or technical school.

Tax Time Information

• InvesTex Credit Union full-time employees, Board Members, and their immediate family are not eligible for consideration.

• Applications are available online at InvesTexCU.org and at any InvesTex location after January 1, 2020.

A NN UAL M E E TIN G A ND BOARD E LE CTION S InvesTex Credit Union will hold its Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 6:00pm. The Annual Meeting will be held at the InvesTex Credit Union Board Room which is located at 8404 FM 1960 Bypass Road W, Humble, Texas 77338.

This year, there are four positions open for election on the Board of Directors. A Nominating Committee, appointed by the Chairperson of the Board of Directors, has nominated one member for each of three Board positions to be filled.

The forth position was filled by appointment after the position was vacated due to retirement. The retirement and the appointment occurred after the nominating process was complete. The credit union bylaws require the appointee to be included in the next election.

Further nominations may be made by official petition signed by 228 eligible members. Stephen Havemann A longtime credit union member joining StarTrust Federal Credit Union in 1990 and serving as a volunteer board member for 23 years. He has held board and committee positions including CoChairman, Treasurer, Secretary, ALCO Committee, and Supervisory Committee. Stephen has a BBA in Accounting from Stephen F. Austin and holds a CPA and CGMA certificate from the AICPA. Stephen is a retired Information Technology professional last serving as CIO of a healthcare service company.

Phyllis Kennedy Started her Credit Union volunteering with StarTrust Federal Credit Union, where she served for over 25 years until the merger with InvesTex Credit Union.

Phyllis held many positions over the years with StarTrust FCU including Co-Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Marketing Committee Chair, ALCO Committee Chair and Compensation Committee.

Phyllis was appointed to the InvesTex Credit Union Board Position 8 in July 2015. Prior to that time she served 2 years on the Advisory Committee with InvesTex and later joined the Compensation Committee and now Chairs the ALM Committee. Phyllis is a CPA and received a BS in accounting from Sam Houston State University. She is employed at Direct Energy as a Management Consultant.

Members who are 18 years of age or older and who meet certain requirements under the Texas Finance Code and Regulations of the Texas Credit Union Commission are eligible for election. Official petitions must be accompanied by a signed statement from the nominee that he or she is agreeable to the nomination and will accept office if elected and should also include a brief statement of qualifications and biographical data. Elected officials are legally responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Credit Union and for compliance with State and Federal laws.

Official petitions and the Director Application and Agreement to Serve form must be filed with the Secretary of the Board of Directors at the Credit Union office which is

located at 8404 FM 1960 Bypass Road W, Humble , TX 77338, by 4 p.m. on February 10, 2020, which is the closing date for receiving nominations by petition. If no official petitions are received by 4 p.m. on February 10, 2020, there will be no election by ballot and no nominations from the floor. When only one member is nominated for each position to be filled, each nominee shall be deemed elected by general consent or acclamation. If there is more than one nominee for any position, the election shall be by mail ballot and the Secretary of the Board of Directors shall cause printed ballots to be mailed to members eligible to vote. In such event, the election shall be determined by plurality vote.

Allan Griffin Has held a position on the board since 1994 and currently serves as the Treasurer and Chairman of the Compensation Committee. Allan is a graduate of SW Texas and Stephen F. Austin University. Allan retired from Humble ISD after serving the district for 36 years.

William “Bill” Lakin Has lived in Houston since 1978 and is married with three children. Bill’s two daughters are elementary school teachers in Klein ISD and his son is a Vice President for the Royal Bank of Canada in the Oil and Gas Division. Bill has one grandson and a granddaughter due very soon. Bill retired five years ago as a 35 year educator, with the last 20 years as a secondary school principal. Keeping him busy now is part-time work at Gleannoch Farms and Champions Golf Courses as well as being a substitute administrator in Klein ISD as needed. Hobbies include playing golf, reading and enjoying his new role in life as Grandpa. Currently he serves as the President of the Klein ISD Education Foundation. Bill was appointed to fill Jim Woodward’s position on the board after his recent retirement.
