Best Workplace in Hospitality 2026

We are incredibly proud to have received the Best Workplaces in Hospitality™ 2026 award from Great Place To Work Ireland at the beginning of July. The recognition is based on independent analysis and confidential colleague feedback, making it especially meaningful. It reflects the voices of our colleagues and the culture they help create, one built on trust, care, teamwork and pride.

Great hotels are not created by buildings alone. They are created by people. By teams who support one another through busy days, celebrate special moments with guests, and bring energy, kindness and pride to every shift. Across our recognised hotels, this achievement reflects a culture where colleague voices matter and where people feel supported to deliver their very best.

To every colleague across the iNUA Hotel Collection, thank you. This recognition belongs to you. Your passion, commitment and genuine hospitality are what make our hotels exceptional places to work and memorable places to stay.

Colleague Spotlight

BOSCO ONYAWANG

What makes you "you"?

What makes me me is my story.

Being born in a refugee camp and growing up through some of the toughest circumstances imaginable. Working hard, overcoming obstacles, and putting myself in a position where I can comfortably provide for my family.

My struggles, my experiences, my failures, and my successes all shaped who I am today. That's what makes me me.

What helps you feel included?

What makes me feel included is people greeting me at the beginning of a shift, asking for my opinion on ideas or things that need to be done, and working together as a team to provide the best service possible.

A tradition you love?

I don’t have any specific traditions that I particularly love at this point. However, since I recently became a father, I’m looking forward to celebrating my daughter’s first birthday and every birthday that follows. That’s a tradition I look forward to every year.

A food that helps feel like home

A food that feels like home to me would be molokhia and semolina. They remind me of where I come from and bring back a sense of comfort and familiarity.

What do you wish others knew

What I wish other people knew about me is that I’m a very creative person. Outside of work, I write songs, record music, mix and master tracks, and shoot music videos. Creativity is a big part of who I am.

Well Deserved Summer Team Party

We had a fantastic evening in June to celebrate with the team at our Summer Party.

Great food, fantastic weather and even better company.

Promotions & Career Development

A key highlight in Q2 has been the number of colleagues progressing their careers within Hillgrove. Lisa Donnelly moved from Leisure Club Supervisor to Assistant Leisure Club Manager, recognising her leadership and ongoing commitment. (photo 1).

Dylan Geraghty was promoted to Leisure Club Supervisor after completing the Restaurant & Hospitality Skillnet Supervisory Skills Programme in March 2026. (photo 2)

P Ginley also moved from the Bar to Leisure as a Fitness Instructor following the completion of his qualifications.

In Food & Beverage, Sean Szajko progressed from Night Manager to Assistant Bar Manager, while Alannah Cassidy and Sara McKenna were promoted from F&B Assistants to Restaurant Team Leads. In the Spa, Grainne Campbell moved into the role of Spa Supervisor and Kornelia became a newly qualified Spa Therapist, transferring from M&E to Spa.

These moves show the value of training, upskilling, mentoring, and giving colleagues the opportunity to grow with us.

Welcoming New Colleagues

We were delighted to welcome Paulius Kavaliauska as Bar Manager, bringing strong Dublin bar experience, along with George Oyembade as Night Manager, Louise Allen as P&C Manager and Garry Donnelly as Assistant M&E Manager. Garry has already made a positive impact with his professionalism, energy and guest focus.

This quarter we were delighted to welcome back Barry Donaghy as Hotel Manager. Having previously spent two years with us, Barry is a familiar face to many colleagues and guests. His experience, leadership and passion for hospitality make him a very welcome addition back to the Hillgrove family.

Recognition & Team Appreciation

Congratulations to our Employee of the Month winners! February –Ingrida Graicuvieve, March – Clodagh Kelly, April – Alannah Cassidy and May – Ramute Vysniauskiene. Each winner has shown excellent teamwork, consistency and pride in their role.

We also celebrated Reception Appreciation Day on 13 May. Our Reception team are often the first and last impression of the hotel, and the day was a lovely opportunity to recognise the warmth, professionalism and patience they bring to every guest interaction.

Managing Mental Health & Wellbeing

Hospitality is busy and demanding, so small reset moments are crucial. This quarter, colleagues are encouraged to try a simple one-minute breathing reset: step away where possible, place both feet on the floor, breathe in for four seconds, hold briefly, then breathe out for six seconds. Repeat three times to help reduce tension, clear the mind and refocus.

Guest Feedback Spotlight

Guest feedback continues to highlight the hard work and care shown across the hotel. Recent comments have praised our friendliness, warm welcomes on arrival, colleagues helpfulness, and high standard of service during stays and events. Feedback that mentions our people is especially meaningful, as it reflects the daily effort made by every department to create a positive guest experience broadcast on our Alkimii Hotel Chat.

A recurring theme in reviews is that guests feel looked after, listened to and welcomed. This is only possible because of teamwork between Reception, Accommodation, F&B, Kitchen, Leisure, Spa, Maintenance and M&E. Every clean bedroom, wellprepared meal, smooth check-in, organised event and helpful conversation contributes to the overall impression on our guests.

Managers are also encouraged to support colleagues in taking proper breaks. A short break away from the floor, even for a few minutes, can make a real difference to energy, mood and concentration. Colleagues are reminded that support is available through their managers, P&C team, and the Employee Assistance Programme.

Community & Special Olympics

On 15 June, Hillgrove proudly supported Down Syndrome Ireland through our Ice Cream Fun Day, with proceeds from ice cream sales donated to this fantastic charity. The event was well supported by colleagues, guests and the wider community.

We also hosted a lunch for Special Olympics participants heading to the Games, including our own Michael Sweeney and Clare McElroy. We are incredibly proud that Michael and Clare both brought home Gold. Their success is a wonderful achievement and a reminder of the importance of inclusion, encouragement and celebrating people’s talents both inside and outside the workplace. There was a celebration of all Ulster participants in the games in Monaghan GAA Club, where we were invited to attend and hand out prizes.

Promotions

We are absolutely delighted to congratulate Katie Madigan on her well-deserved promotion to Spa Manager!

Since joining our team in 2017, Katie has been an incredible asset to us. Her dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact on both our team and our guests. Throughout her journey with us, Katie has excelled in every role she has undertaken, progressing from Senior Spa Therapist to Main Trainer, then Assistant Spa Manager, and now into the role of Spa Manager. Katie’s expertise is backed by an impressive education. She holds an ITEC Diploma in Sports Massage from Annacotty, Limerick, along with qualifications in Beauty Therapy and Facial Electrical Treatments. She also earned an ITEC Diploma in Physical and Holistic Therapy from Cork College of Commerce, bringing a wealth of knowledge, professionalism, and care to everything she does.

What sets Katie apart is her positivity and genuine warmth she brings every day. She has an incredible ability to brighten every room she walks into, inspire those around her, and support both colleagues and clients with kindness, encouragement, and professionalism. She is a valued mentor, an exceptional leader, and a wonderful colleague who consistently goes above and beyond. Katie, we couldn’t be prouder of everything you have achieved, and this promotion is a reflection of your hard work, talent, and dedication over the past nine years. We are excited to see you lead our spa into its next chapter and know you will continue to inspire everyone around you.

Congratulations, Katie!

We’re delighted to welcome David Cotter to the Reservations team at Muckross Park Hotel & Spa!

David has joined us on his work experience journey and has already become a valued colleague. In his role within Reservations, he’s learning to use Hotsoft, manage guest reservations, respond to guest emails, and support the team with a variety of daily administrative tasks. His enthusiasm for learning and willingness to embrace new challenges have made a great impression.

David brings a wealth of experience, having spent 25 years in engineering, specialising in CAD design, technical roles, and accounts administration. He then successfully transitioned into software development, working for two years as a Full Stack Developer before embarking on this exciting new chapter in hospitality.

We’re thrilled to have David as part of the team and look forward to supporting him as he continues to develop his skills and contribute to delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Welcome to the team, David! We wish you every success and are delighted to have you with us.

Achievements

We are incredibly proud to celebrate two significant achievements that recognise both our exceptional team and the experiences we create every day. Muckross Park Hotel & Spa has been recognised as an Outstanding Employer in Fáilte Ireland’s Employer Excellence Programme and has also been recognised in Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards, ranking among the Top 10 Luxury Hotels in Ireland and placing us in the top 1% of hotels worldwide.

Our Employer Excellence recognition highlights the positive workplace culture we have built, while our Tripadvisor award is based entirely on the feedback and experiences shared by our guests. Together, they demonstrate that great guest experiences

begin with a great team.

Every smile, warm welcome, thoughtful gesture and commitment to excellence contributes to these achievements. Whether you work front of house, housekeeping, kitchens, maintenance, the spa, reservations, P&C, finance or management, every member of the team plays an important role in our success.

Thank you to every Muckross colleague for your hard work, commitment and for making our hotel such a special place for both our guests and our colleagues.

Achieved 97% in our Food Safety Audit

Sean achieved an incredible fundraising total of €1,300. We are so proud of him!

Q2 has been a busy one in Sligo – lots of projects, colleague changes, and a lot of sunshine!

Starting with some shout outs

Joe Shannon has decided to make his part-time summer job a full-time career move and we are delighted that he is staying on with the kitchen in the role of Commis Chef.

In addition to Joe moving up the ranks we are also delighted to introduce John Koshy – Sous Chef, Clinton Rongsai – Commis Chef, and Mohamed Amare –Kitchen Porter, to the established team, who have been working solidly these last few months ensuring all outlets are catered for – with a particular shout out to Raymond who has really stepped up to the plate (pardon the pun) in taking the lead on the Hot – Line since Joeys departure to pastures new.

The final addition to the team – and one which will be put to hard work immediately is…….. Keith’s new oven!

The Maintenance Team have been hard at hard at work bringing Denise’s visions to life, and have turned the old helipads into outdoor seating for our wedding guests with glorious views of Benbulben – which looks especially fine in the recent sunshine.

Despite all the shovelling, lifting and shifting, Pete still found time to rescue one of our Swallows from the vents.

I’m sure he will be remembered fondly when they return from their 1000’s miles travels next summer.

Out and About in Sligo

The Galleon Andalusia came and went – majestically sailing past the hotel into deep water quay (on a diesel engine).

And the Hotel are now proud sponsors of the Sligo Rovers Futsal  Team!

Congratulations to our own Tim Curran on his amazing Special Olympics Achievements.

Awards & Achievements

A testament to all they do – it was with great pleasure Tom was awarded June’s Employee of the Month.

There have been a multitude of successes across the hotel also, with Audits being completed and Awards awarded.

Big shout out to Valerie on achieving 91% on her Reservations Audit, Leah on achieving 91% on her M&E Audit, and of course the whole Food and Beverage Team on their Service Excellence Score of 92.8%. All this great work shone through when the hotel received Great Place to Work accreditation for the 3rd year in a row.

And our guests clearly do not disagree with some wonderful reviews and a rise in our Net Promoter Score to a whopping 54.8% - a Hotel Record!

Milestones

None of this would be possible without our fantastic team –some of whom have over half a century of service between them. We are delighted to recognise the long service milestones for:

Edward Gubski – 20 Years

Wieslawa Kosek – 20 Years

Silvija Kuodiene – 15 Years

Valerie Murphy – 10 Years

More shout outs to Adrian and Grace who are progressing well along their MDP and SMDP pathways – every day is a school day, make the most of what you can learn here, transferrable skills last a lifetime!

Matty’s mental health tip

If I find my mind is becoming overwhelmed with negative thoughts, fear ,or just simply too much information to prioritise, I take a moment to re-set it – I close my eyes to block out visual distractions and count backwards from 500 using a random number to focus the concentration. Ie. 500 – 13 = 487 – 13 = 474 etc. until I get close to 0. That usually stops the racing thoughts and allows me to reassess priorities after the exercise.

And finally stay hydrated in this hot weather!

Welcome

We are delighted to introduce the newest member of our team, Nicole, our Weddings Manager. Nicola has already settled in brilliantly, hitting the ground running from day one. She joins us from Lough Rea Hotel, where she held the role of Weddings Manager, bringing with her a wealth of experience and expertise. We look forward to working together with Nicole as we continue to create unforgettable wedding experiences for our couples.

She is an incredible asset to our colleagues from the DSI Employability Programme, offering guidance, encouragement, and support. This recognition is thoroughly deserved, and we are grateful for everything you do and your 22 years of service in Springfield.

Sean joined our team two years ago as an M&E Assistant and is an invaluable team member. He consistently demonstrates his dedication, flexibility, and willingness to support colleagues across multiple departments. From lending a hand in the bar, assisting the maintenance team, to most recently volunteering as a Night Porter, Sean always steps up when called upon. His positive attitude, kind and caring nature, and commitment to going above and beyond have not gone unnoticed.

He is also a valued member of the team for the past three years, and we are incredibly proud of him.

Congratulations, Conor, we look forward to celebrating many more achievements with you.

Colleague Spotlight

Milestones

This year, we were fortunate to celebrate two colleagues reaching the incredible milestone of 25 years of service.

For the past 25 years, Linda has been the welcoming face at our reception desk, greeting guests with a warm smile, helping and support wherever needed, and being a valued friend and colleague along the way.

Linda, thank you for everything you do for our guests and our team. Your kindness, dedication, and positivity impact every day. We are lucky to have you as part of our team!

Joker has been a familiar and friendly face behind the bar for the 25 years. Known not only for his exceptional service but also his warm smile and welcoming personality, Joker has made countless guests and colleagues feel right at home over the years.

Thank you, Joker, for your dedication, hard work, and the positivity you bring to our team daily.

We would like to shine a spotlight on our incredible colleague, Jarek

Over the past few months, alongside his day-to-day responsibilities, Jarek has been hard at work on several major upgrade projects. His craftsmanship and dedication have been exceptional, from rebuilding the centre of our main bar from the ground up, to designing, building, and installing a brand-new function bar and storage area in our private function room.

Jarek’s talent, commitment, and attention to detail have made a lasting impact, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him on our team.

Thank you, Jarek, for your hard work and for everything you do to continuously improve our hotel.

We would also like to shine a spotlight on our often unsung department, our incredible Nights Team. It may be the smallest team in the hotel, just three colleagues, Paul, Rommel, and Hammed, with occasional support from our Receptionist, Nader. Due to the hours they work, they don’t always get the opportunity to meet many of their colleagues, and many don’t notice the incredible work they do behind the scenes.

These are the colleagues who keep our hotel running smoothly when most of us are away. They take care of our guests throughout the night and into the early morning, handle challenging situations during busy periods, turn around meeting and function rooms, and ensure our hotel is ready for the day ahead.

Their dedication, hard work, and commitment do not go unnoticed. Thank you, Paul, Rommel, Hammed, and Nader, for everything you do. We see the effort you put in, we appreciate you, and we are incredibly lucky to have such a fantastic Nights Team as part of our Springfield Hotel family.

Supporting Down Syndrome Ireland

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful team and generous guests who supported our Ice Cream Fun Day in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland. Together, we raised an amazing €300 for this fantastic cause. Although the weather wasn’t on our side, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm or community spirit. It was wonderful to see every department come together in support and make it such a success.

RTE Radio 1visit

We were delighted to welcome Darren Frehill and the team from RTE Radio 1 for the live draw of the All-Ireland GAA fixtures. It was a fantastic occasion for Tullamore and a great opportunity to showcase the hotel and County on the National airwaves.

Welcome Paul Gaynor

We are delighted to welcome Paul Gaynor as our new Deputy General Manager. We wish Paul every success in his new role and look forward to working with him.

Celebrate Service Week

Thank you for joining us in celebrating Celebrate Service Week from 8–15 June. Each year, we organise a range of events and activities to show our appreciation for our team, and this year was no exception.

Throughout the week, we recognised long-service milestones, hosted a children’s party, welcomed an ice cream van, enjoyed takeaways, and shared acts of kindness through goodie bags.

We rounded off the celebrations with a Bake-Off event hosted by Patrick and Nigel. A huge congratulations to Nikoletta, our Bake-Off winner and Kamila, who secured third place. Their incredible bakes impressed everyone and helped make the event a fantastic success.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make Service Week so enjoyable. We look forward to celebrating with you again next year.

Celebrating success at voco Belfast

Kitchen Team - 5 Star Status

For years, the kitchen at this hotel, through voco, Gasworks, and Radisson, consistently maintained a 4-star Food Hygiene Rating. It was clean, wellorganised, and functional - but it wasn’t quite 5-star.

Following a surprise Environmental Health inspection, Nigel and his team have now achieved a Five-Star Food Hygiene Rating.

This is a tremendous achievement with an incredible amount of hard work, dedication, and attention to detail that has gone into reaching this standard.

A huge congratulations to the entire kitchen team. Thank you also to the F&B team for their support, and to Patrick, Damian, and James, who all put in a tremendous effort to help get this across the line. This recognition is thoroughly deserved and is a testament to the commitment, teamwork, and professionalism you demonstrate every day.

Room to Grow Team Development

We’re shining the spotlight on Zara Boyce and Rebecca Sterrett, who have successfully completed the ILM Level 3 Award in Understanding Costs and Budgets in an Organisation with Belfast Met. Delivered over a few weeks, the programme has strengthened their understanding of budgeting, cost management, financial planning, and the importance of making informed financial decisions to support operational success.

Colleague and Team Achievements

May delivered our strongest rooms performance since opening, excluding the Open period last year, while our guest satisfaction metrics continued to exceed target. This achievement is a reflection of the exceptional work of Nadia and the accommodation team whose dedication to maintaining the highest standards and quality continues to drive outstanding results. Thank you to our accommodation team for everything you do each day.

Congratulations to Zara and Rebecca on this fantastic achievement. Your commitment to continuous learning and professional development is a great example of investing in skills that support both personal growth and organisational success. Well done!

Congratulations to Amanda our Assistant Front Office Manager who has been named a finalist in the recent NIHF Receptionist awards – a brilliant achievement from someone who has recently been promoted and is a driving force in the success of the front office department.
