Celebrating our new home, bold vision and the people who made it possible Impact Report 2025

Art Museum champions the diverse voices of self-taught art, welcoming both new and familiar audiences.
Located in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood, Intuit is a premier museum of self-taught art. The Museum collects and exhibits work by artists who typically work outside the mainstream and have developed a sustained artistic practice. Some artists may have faced societal, economic or geographic barriers to pursuing extensive training in the arts. The museum’s mission is grounded in the ethos that the instinct to create is universal and the arts must embrace, represent and be accessible to all.
From President and CEO Debra Kerr
Surprising, imaginative and ready to welcome you—friends from near and far, the new Intuit Art Museum is finally here!
Thank you for participating in creating one of the most welcoming and accessible museums in Chicago and beyond.
What makes friends like you special to Intuit (IAM) is our shared belief: Art is for everyone. And IAM is for you.
Only a weeks in, already IAM is attracting an incredible new level of attendance and visibility. There’s something here for everyone. Plan your visit, renew your membership or consider a meaningful gift to make art accessible to all.
Thank you for being part of this extraordinary new chapter.
IAM yours,

Debra Kerr President and CEO

In May 2025, Intuit completed a $10-million transformation of its current facility located in Chicago’s vibrant West Town neighborhood. The transformation was made possible by generous donors and a $5-million community development grant from the City of Chicago using American Rescue Plan funds.
This renovation realizes Intuit’s vision to be the most welcoming museum in Chicago, with a new friendly façade, updated accessibility features, a community gathering space, a learning studio for teachers and students, and triple its former exhibition space.
Read on in this report to learn about the amazing partners being honored in the Museum spaces.

On view through Jan 11,
Discover more than 80 works by 22 artists from 13 countries featuring drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, woodcarving and installation.
Curated by Chief Curator Alison Amick and Independent Curator Dana Boutin, Catalyst: Im/migration and Self-Taught Art in Chicago is the first major exhibition to focus on the importance of immigration and migration in the genre of self-taught art. The exhibition underscores the creative contributions of migrants and immigrants, who continue to invigorate the culture of the city. In our work to reexamine artists through a cultural lens and further the scholarship on lesser-known artists deserving of greater attention, Intuit’s curators accessed primary sources providing new and corrective data; consulted with more than 200 artists, family members, community leaders, historians, librarians, museum professionals, gallerists and collectors; and collaborated with project advisors. Examining artwork in this context offers deeper insight into the cultural, community and family influences that stimulate artistic production.
A catalog will be published to accompany the exhibition.
Catalyst: Im/migration and Self-Taught Art in Chicago is part of Art Design Chicago, a citywide collaboration initiated by the Terra Foundation for American Art that highlights the city’s artistic heritage and creative communities. The Dorothea and Leo Rabkin Foundation provided additional funding for the exhibition catalog.

Teacher Fellowship
Every school year, a dedicated cohort of Chicago Public School teachers immerse themselves in the history and contemporary practices of self-taught artists to design a high-quality visual arts curriculum inspired by art at the Museum.
Intuiteens
Every summer IAM brings teens together to connect with self-taught art and each other. This paid opportunity invites young people to interact with the Museum, develop their art-making skills and expand their creative practice, engage in critical discussion, learn about careers in the arts, and explore the city’s vibrant arts community.
Intuit in the Community
We’re expanding our reach. Intuit’s community partnerships are sustained relationships aimed at reducing barriers to art by making our resources accessible beyond the walls of the Museum. We collaborate with a variety of nonprofit organizations to bring engaging art experiences and dialogue to communities throughout Chicago.
Exposed brick walls, original wood floors and restored façade elements honor the building’s history, while collaborations with artists help make the Museum feel fresh and modern.
Top Right
The bird with the lighted eye perched above the Museum’s entry door was inspired by artist Lee Godie, designed by Bud Rodecker of the design firm Span and executed by artist Matthew Hoffman.
Bottom Right
Commissioned by Intuit and designed by Chicago artist Bob Faust, Wallwork (iam an Artist) (2025) is a three-story-tall building wrap that draws inspiration from the Museum’s collection. Included are works by Chicago artists Dr. Charles Smith, Mr. Imagination and Betty Zakoian.

Installation views of Henry Darger: The Room Revealed
Artist Henry Darger’s fascination with the weather, both in his writings and his art, inspired the projections by motion designer Warren Rudd seen in the exhibition Henry Darger: The Room Revealed Darger’s art also inspired the animations created by composer Philippe Cohen Solal and Gabriel Jacquel seen in the windows of Darger’s room.

“… [The Museum’s] new spaces precisely reflect the institution and locale: smart and economical, attractive and a little tough.”

Bob Roth is a founding member and the first board president of Intuit, serving from 1991 to 1996, and he’s now a Vivian Society lifetime trustee. In 1971 Bob co-founded the Chicago Reader newspaper, of which he was president until the paper was sold in 2007. Donated by Jean and Lewis Greenblatt, the Learning Studio is the IAM dedicated space for learning, providing hands-on opportunities for educators and students to enrich their museum experience.
For 20 years, Caelan Mys was the curator of the Estate of Eugene Von Bruenchenhein, consistently studying this seminal oeuvre. Through curating Von Bruenchenhein’s estate, Mys developed a close relationship with Jean and Lewis Greenblatt, owners of the Von Bruenchenhein estate at the time. The Greenblatts remember Caelan’s guiding force, remarkable gentleness, keen artistic observations and unforgettable kindness.

Scott Lang has been a board member with Intuit since 2015 and board chair since 2024. Art is foundational to Kohler Company. In 1883, just 10 years after the company was founded, John Michael Kohler transformed a cast iron trough into the company’s first bathtub. Since then, they have embraced art as a way to elevate design, enrich communities and spark innovation. Kohler Co.’s commitment to the arts lives in its legacy, craftsmanship and culture.
From the Arts/Industry residency program in partnership with the John Michael Kohler Arts Center to the Artist Editions® product line, the dedication to the arts is authentic and shapes how they think, design and create now and for decades to come.
