   of the world’s leading architecture and design practices, specialising in design solutions tailored to the needs of cities and communities around the globe. The company has been phenomenally successful by achieving an impressive 14 awards. Pulsa is a residential development of eight individual houses in the region’s most spectacular Repulse Bay on Hong Kong Island. Hence, symbolically, the design is based on ribbon which is analogous to the movement of a wave. Practically, the ribbons respond to the spatial requirement of different functions inside the buildings and create an architecture with a changing profile for different perspectives. By the diffraction and reflection of the curves, residents are always surrounded by the adjoining natural beauty. Hefei Galaxy Park is an experience-oriented retail centre in China with a design that embraces a metaphor of the cultural backdrop of Anhui Province. The Yellow Mountain is the province’s most popular tourist destination due

to its picturesque scenery of sunsets, rocks, hot springs and views of clouds below. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the mountain and its terrain have been translated by Aedas into the shopping centre’s two dynamic outlines and layered volumes. Vertical greenery cascades down from roof gardens to outdoor terraces creating an attractive urban oasis. Tianshan Gate of the World in China is a large scale, mixed-use project in Shijiazhuang’s new development zone. Plot 27, Phase II features a 450-metre high International Finance Centre with Grade A offices, serviced apartments, a five-star hotel, restaurants, a sky club with infinity pool and an observatory spiral flying deck at the summit. The art of Yan-Zhao, which is the beauty of the curved form of Chinese zither, has been integrated within the tower’s design. By expressing the spiritual elements of flowing, dancing sleeves and instruments’ strings, a rhythmic beauty is formed. Taichung Commercial Bank Headquarters, Taiwan is a 210-metre high tower. It combines

the bank’s business hall, commercial office space, a hotel and supporting facilities. The client envisioned an iconic landmark which could represent the bank’s economic gesture in the Taichung development area. As well as isolating each function’s use separately, the hotel client wished to add some entertainment facilities. These included a high-rise rooftop club, outdoor swimming pool and a cantilevered ballroom, all within the tower. These requirements represented the greatest challenges in the project’s design solutions. Aedas devised four different design concepts before deciding on the one that took its origins from the Chinese character ‘Chung’, based on the Taichung Commercial Bank’s logo. Instead of stacking all the building’s large functions such as the ballroom and pool in a singular tower, the design creates two separate blocks with a vertical void in the middle of the building to accommodate facilities. Suzhou Hong Leong City Center is a mixed-use development in China with

unobstructed views of the Jinji Lake. Its design seeks to harmonise with Suzhou’s breathtaking landscape. After adhering to planning restrictions, the development’s commercial podium and four towers are reminiscent of Suzhou’s famous terraced tea plantations. The design is both accessible and porous, evoking the feeling that one could walk into, on, over and under it. A plethora of functions along the periphery of the building will also attract those from the local and global community. Suzhou Chiway Jinji Lake Project is a mixed-use development in the heart of the Jinji lake district in China. It consists of two site parcels that are to be developed in conjunction with one another. The aim is to provide a new tourist destination for travellers and local families to enjoy the iconic Jinji Lake view and set a precedent for the integrated hotel/leisure and commercial mixed-use project in Suzhou. The client stipulated several key objectives in the brief – to provide an open and cultural entertainment area, with a trendy retail and

F&B mall, whilst incorporating a luxury lakeside boutique hotel and a residential complex in the form of an iconic landmark to supplement the previous and now outdated Jinji Lake Ferris Wheel development. Aedas was commissioned to master-plan the two sites and lakeside park, then further develop their commercial components. This resulted in a masterplan that was designed to resemble the historical depiction of the golden phoenix – a composition that offers the design flexibility to achieve all the principle objectives set out by the client. Zhuhai Hengqin CRCC Plaza is located on Hengqin Island, Zhuhai, China. Facing Macao, this area is becoming an increasingly open and creative city development zone. Based on the client’s corporate culture, the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), and the city, Aedas created an architectural design giving maximum consideration to both people and nature. With this in mind, the mixed-use development creates a loop in the sky which symbolises integration, connection and communication. It features a signature

sky bridge that links all four towers within the project and offers office, retail and leisure facilities as well as outdoor terraces. Zhuhai Hengqin Headquarters Complex Project & Zhuhai Hengqin Mixed-Use Project is in a prime area on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai, China. The former’s design stems from the Chinese myth of a totem of two dragons chasing a pearl, symbolising people looking for better lives. The towers portray a sense of strength and power, while the banqueting building below looks like an exquisite pearl. The podium design then echoes the nearby Lotus Bridge, resembling a blooming lotus flower with its leaves wrapping around the shopping centre. The design concept for Zhuhai Hengqin Mixed-Use Project is inspired by the elegant cruising movement of a Dragon Fish. The contour of the streamlined tower and dynamic physique of the fish not only enriches the city skyline but also fulfils all functional and planning requirements. concept is based on the famous rock mountain scenery of Hunan. The volume of the retail podium resembles the formality of the tower and also takes inspiration from the historic Changsha commercial street. Its intimate human scale and playful architectural elements pay tribute to the traditional Changsha culture. With this project, Aedas has taken both the area’s natural and historical references and deliberately interpreted them into the language of modern architecture. Alacarte Condotel Ha Long Bay is a new development in Vietnam that is designed to be iconic whilst still relating closely to the rich natural landscape of the UNESCO heritage site that surrounds it. The majority of units have been positioned to benefit from a sea view with the remainder having a mountain and bay aspect. A seamless vertical wave has also been created by shifting the flat apex perpendicular to the plane of the façade, forming an iconic appearance to the condotel. Hotel Indigo Hongqiao in Shanghai, China has a design concept inspired by the form of

Indigo’s logo – a shell. The front of its podium has also been designed in a spiral form with vertical and diagonal mullions. This creates a sense of arrival and attracts guests to enter. Progressing through the landscaped courtyard, they find themselves exploring and enjoying a wealth of shell and ocean features. Soft forms with up-lit trees and reflective pools provide a relaxed ambience, providing a welcoming oasis from the busy city. SCE Hong Qiao Times Square in Shanghai, China aims to build an entrepreneurial community that promotes communication and high efficiency. By using the grid pattern it forms a central green space offering the city a communal park. Secondly, independent building blocks provide each enterprise with its own headquarters and distinctive façade. Small courtyards are formed by these building blocks which imitate the concept of traditional Shanghai lanes. These long, narrow spaces create a neighbourhood atmosphere, encouraging communication between the various enterprises, while roof terraces capture premium city views.

 D A (SD Architects) is a company passionate about design, form and function in order to achieve each client’s brief. Based in Brentwood, Essex, its team consists of highly creative and dedicated architects, graduates, technicians, 3D visualisers and interior designers. Lodwick is SD Architects’ award-winning architectural project in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. The property’s site was unique in that it is located at the end of a cul de sac and in an elevated position. The client’s brief was to design an inspirational, contemporary family home, maximising the site’s panoramic views of the Thames Estuary. The aim was to create a Miamistyle house that interacted with the south facing views of the estuary, beach and beach huts.

Designed over three floors plus a basement level with swimming pool, entertaining space and health complex, the ground floor has been derived around two zones or pods. One is a curved structure that opened the main entrance into a large, double-height hallway, while the other is a crisp, linear form with curved external walls. The first floor continues the two-pod theme, incorporating the master bedroom suite in the east wing and opulent girl’s bedroom suite and a guest en suite bedroom in the west wing. At second floor level, the design is at juxtaposition to the rest of the house, providing two equal-sized boys’ bedroom suites with the most fabulous panoramic views imaginable.

  J , Sou Fujioto, The House of Hungarian Music is part of a rehabilitation project set to transform the world’s first public park, famously known as Varosliget. In line with plans for the complete renewal of the park, the government sought to erect new buildings for important cultural institutions in Budapest, Hungary. Enchanted by the multitude of trees in Varosliget, the structure, which is in close proximity to Vajdahunyad Castle and the lake, will represent a major crossroads in the middle of the park. Its transparent, translucent design will make it easy for visitors to find their way around, while the semi-spherical sound dome, with the use of speakers will create a special

visual and audio experience for visitors. The building will be covered on the ground floor by large glass surfaces supported by transparent glass ribbing. Featuring three floors, the ground level will be used for events while the first floor will hold offices for employees of the museum, library, club and music education rooms. The floor beneath the ground level will contain the main exhibition spaces, mechanical rooms, storage areas and the kitchen for the café. The mission is to continuously discover, collect, store, make available and transmit the results of Hungarian music and outstanding individual achievements on the history of music, performing arts, instrumental history and music pedagogy, to name a few.

   Jaspers-Eyers Architects are formulated with precision and sheer creativity. The international practice provides full architectural design, programming, urban design, master planning and graphic and interior design services for clients in both the public and private sectors. Paradis Express and City Hall Hasselt are two of its award-winning projects. Offering a mix of offices, residences and mixed-use functions such as medical practices and a crèche, Paradis Express in Liege, Belgium was influenced by the hilly scenery around. The result sees the undulation of the green hills carried through inside the project, making it an extension of the rolling landscape. The development also connects two important buildings in the area: Santiago

Calatrava’s train station and the beautifully constructed Paradis Tower. Throughout the whole site, clear perspectives establish a relationship with the environment. A number of green spots bring nature into the project, thus creating a healthy and lively meeting area. On the other hand, City Hall Hasselt is a unique combination of old and new; a connection between the past and the present integrated into the heart of the city. The new structure blends in seamlessly with the adjoining plaza, as well as the old neoclassical gendarmerie building from 1879, now housing a restaurant, offices and meeting rooms. The base of the new building consists of three floors that are open to the public; a cafeteria separates these from the upper five floors which feature the offices.

   of growth, LWK + Partners has evolved from a local architectural practice into a global integrated design studio rooted in Hong Kong. The company has 11 studios across Greater China, Southeast Asia and MENA and has won an impressive four awards for four different architectural projects. The Pavilia Bay is a large-scale, waterfront residential development in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong. It comprises 983 apartments ranging from studios to four-bedroom units across two towers. Inspired by the concept of a superyacht in sail, The Pavilia Bay has a contemporary curtain wall design, sleek outline and an avantgarde façade. The visual connection between the podium and nearby users at the promenade has also been enhanced through the use of parapets for level differences instead of solid fence walls. The majority of apartments have optimal sea views and residents have the benefit of a wide

range of amenities. These include a large, open foyer, an infinity pool overlooking the sea, a luxurious lounge, gym, children’s play area and wellness at the clubhouse. Landmark Riverside Danzishi Old Street in Hong Kong is a comprehensive cultural commercial experience that bridges the old and new, the oriental and western. Officially classed as an AAAA Class national scenic area, the site’s history has been retained in this new development. Complementing the existing traditional elements, new buildings have adopted a modern Chinese architectural style. Framed viewing windows and patterned grids and screens were installed to direct the line of vision in order to appreciate the picturesque scenery. The traditional blue brick tiles have been renewed with the addition of modern materials, while classical patterns are reiterated as contemporary geometric shapes. The concept of ‘one street, two docks, four courts and 10 scenic attractions’ outlined the

variety that exists in the project. However, more importantly, it revealed the central axis of the development – Danzishi Old Street. Olympic Vanke Centre is in an ideal location in the future CBD of Hangzhou, China and next to its 2022 Asian games Village. On completion, it will provide 100,000m² of commercial area comprised of two office towers, a shared podium of amenities, F&Bs and an underground service area. The main architectural feature is an elevated bridging mass of amenities which ties the two towers as a whole from levels three to six. Elevated from street level, it allows free movement of pedestrians, air and sunlight – all of which are considered as essential ingredients for a vibrant, semi-outdoor public domain. The convergence of the two towers at the lifted podium is then highlighted by the continuous deep-setting spandrel fins. These portray sharp shadows dramatised by the changing angle of the sun relative to the spiralling building form.

Zhengding Shijiazhuang Hotel

Zhengding Shijiazhuang Hotel takes reference from the adjacent Zhengding Old City and subtly incorporates its architectural themes into the façade, such as the pitched roof extending into the guestrooms’ interiors. The hotel’s towers offer 200 guest rooms while the low-rise resort complex provides 60 executive villas, a grand ballroom, boutique tea house, meeting rooms and speciality restaurants. Situated in the north and orientated from north to south, the towers are orthogonally arranged along the central axis. Typical floors feature a single loaded corridor configuration to maximise the river view for all suites The resort villas placed to the south feature a contemporary interpretation of a typical Chinese courtyard house in their layout. A distinctive covered walkway connects the villa clusters throughout the complex, while double-storey courtyard villas shift and stagger to create pocket space and inner landscaped courtyards.

  M, Uribe + Arquitectos creates architecture that infuses Mexican cultural elements with a new meaning, elevating them to a universal plane. Its work is characterised by exploring clients’ needs and transforming them into projects that merge design and technology. The company has won three awards relating to the following projects. Klein Residence is located in an exclusive residential area and has spectacular views of the valley of Mexico City. The client’s requirements included four bedrooms, private family space, an open concept kitchen and generous social spaces for entertaining. A six-car underground garage, gym and service quarters were also included in the brief. The heart of the house is the terrace as it is used all year round and even houses some

of the surrounding oak trees. Indeed, the principal inspiration of the overall design was the oak trees which make the house feel immersed in nature. Moran Apartment is a penthouse owned by a mature couple with unique requirements that influenced Uribe’s final design. Their extensive art collection was one of the main focus points throughout the property as well as maximising the impressive Mexico City views. One of the clients also has tunnel vision so high contrast colours and lighting was vital for safe navigation of the apartment. A major highlight of the interior design is the living room which has been designed around a painting by the renowned Mexican artist David Alfaro Siqueiros.

- UD is an architectural and interior design firm based in Marbella, Spain offering comprehensive services in architecture, interiors, 3D visualisation, bespoke furniture design and project management. The architects were instructed to design Villa Alcuzcuz as a luxurious family villa incorporating state-of-the-art environmental and media technology, maximising available views of the Mediterranean coastline and ensuring that all interior and exterior spaces would be uncluttered, allowing for easy communication between each area of the house. The formal lounge is designed to impress with its 7-metre high ceiling, perfect symmetry and a large mural running into two floors. The family TV room has a wall of glass which slides wide open to merge the inside and outside

spaces into one. A few short steps from the kitchen is a floor-to-ceiling window which opens at the touch of a button and brings you to a vertical eco herb garden and orchard. The magnificent 519m² entertainment space has a sunken cinema area, sports bar, games area with pool table, VIP seating areas, DJ booth, state-of-the-art golf simulator, fully equipped gym, wellness zone with treatment rooms and relaxation areas. Villa Alcuzcuz is Marbella’s first luxury house built under Passive House Regulations and Standards. Passive House means energy efficiency and environmental friendliness to an exceptionally high degree, guaranteeing more than 75% saving on energy costs. G A, an international design company based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, has been accredited with the design of a number of Grade A office buildings around the city due to the company directors’ strong understanding of international design standards and attention to detail. A large majority of TwoG’s projects are re-engagement from existing clients, following success stories from previous projects. TwoG’s entry in to the Asia Pacific Property Awards program is for Friendship Tower, a LEED Green Certified Grade A office building located in Ho Chi Minh City, with the intent to meet the demand for fully serviced office buildings. The design of the building is a celebration of the diplomatic relationship formed through the years between Slovakia and Vietnam.

The project is in a landmark location, home to some of the city’s most recognisable and historic buildings. There are few locations which offer such stunning visuals. With this in mind, the project is more than simply office space – it provides its users with unsurpassed comfort, an energy efficient workspace and the connection to the local context which is unique in its own right. Currently under construction, the project was designed using post-tensioned slab floors for the superstructure, whilst the substructure was designed to minimise ground settlement outside the site boundary, allowing for advanced construction methods due to the close proximity to neighbouring buildings. TwoG worked closely with LKP Vietnam Ltd, a Civil and Structural Engineering company based in Ho Chi Minh City, to ensure maximum structural efficiency throughout the development of the project.

  J, Indonesia TWS & Partners is an architectural company that has won an award for the Hanging Villa. Located within the beautiful forest conservation area of Bandung, West Java, Hanging Villa takes full advantage of the gorgeous views and cool climate. Built into the hillside, the first floor is partly submerged into the slope, where the natural thermal qualities reduce the need for air conditioning. The master bedroom is also located here giving the occupants complete privacy. A timber pathway meanders along the second floor leading to the living area, which has been decorated in warm, earthy colours, reflecting the natural environment. Full height glass walls expose the interior to the

surrounding views and also reduce the need for artificial illumination. Glass doors open out from the dining area and allow residents to enjoy the stunning outdoor pool and garden area. The roof deck level offers a fantastic space to enjoy family group activities.  A  the result of Costa Rica based SARCO Arquitectos client’s brief to design a home in the prestigious, luxury Peninsula Papagayo Resort in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, that offers flexible family accommodation and rental potential, sleeping up to 12 people. Taking in the natural surroundings the property links seamlessly with the tropical exterior landscape, enhanced by the panoramic views. The biggest design challenge was the terrain and the differing land levels. The solution was to segment the build into several modules and then carefully plan methods to create continuation and flow, taking into consideration the varying land levels. The result was to create a central module that houses the main living space and some

of the guest accommodation. Using an up/ down flow, the main entrance and living spaces were arranged on an upper level, with sleeping areas below. The external space and swimming pool serve as a throughway to the additional bedroom module, entered by the lower level, which flows upwards to the master suite located at the uppermost point of the home. Interior styling embraces a tropical jungle vibe, and relates closely to nature. Internal requirements included master bedroom suite with private office space, four-guest bedrooms, open plan living spaces, extensive outdoor space, pool and room for staff, with ease of maintenance. Energy efficiency was also an important consideration to minimise running cost.

GA A, Coral Boulevard Development and SL Capital have worked in collaboration to win three awards across two of their latest projects. Coral Boulevard in the Maldives is an integrated development incorporating a retail mall, hotel and a variety of residence types and sizes. Rather than a single mass, it is made up of a series of volumetric towers which rises above an expanded horizontal podium. This podium integrates the streetscape with the development and connects both the pedestrian and vehicular circulation. Hence, the tower avoids any formal complexity but still achieves a memorable massing and silhouette due to its clustering and arrangement of towers. In addition, the

adoption of a ‘coral’ motif as a distinctive lattice feature adds a dimension of spontaneity and playfulness to the building’s façade. The architectural design of 3 Cuscaden in the Orchard district of Singapore breaks down the scale and massing of the tower into interconnected volumes. This avoids the repetitive austerity of conventional tower design and, by creating a new horizontal and vertical configuration, a socially engaging and dynamic environment is formed. The introduction of lush sky courts and terraces offers intimacies within the tower, while the specific articulation of the façade facilitates natural daylight into living spaces, also allowing sweeping views of the city.

AA’   with A & M Hadjivasili Developers has resulted in award-winning status for the two following architectural projects. The first, Marina Beachfront Villa is located within four minutes walking distance from the new starting Paphos Marina. It is a seven-bedroom property featuring a design influenced by its panoramic views of Coral Bay in Cyprus. It includes a luxurious spa, gym, cinema room and swimming pool as well as a garage with convenient access to the kitchen. The villa’s L-shaped layout has floor-toceiling windows blending the boundaries of the indoor and outdoor space. Panoramic glass doors and an open plan design connect the owners with nature in a holiday environment. The use of local stone adds a timeless quality

  , Dar Al Omran is a group of building and infrastructure consultants based in Riyadh. With a strong regional presence and local knowledge, it has succeeded in establishing a solid reputation in the world of architecture and engineering consultancy. The group has won two awards for its project Development of Al Bujairi Heritage Quarter in Ad Diriyah. This 23,000m² multi-use development includes an office building, retail and outdoor souq, a small mosque and parking for 230 cars for retail customers in the basement levels. Built on a site of 54,354m² in close proximity to Turaif vernacular village, its aim is to revive the Albjeri area through an understanding of the place and its history. Starting with the past, through the present

and into the future, each era has been given the opportunity to express its important role in the wheel of time. The design combined a contemporary outdoor experience with historical values, satisfying all required areas and functions while giving the retail experience a twist of discovery. Regional materials such as palm leaves have been used for the roof and clay and local stones for the external walls. The design enhances the penetration of daylight into the building by using courtyards. These increase the occupants’ connection with the outdoors, reinforce circadian rhythms and reduce the use of electricity. Shading elements and canopies together with recessed windows, high external walls and roof thicknesses also improve the building’s thermal comfort.

 D Public Company Limited is a property developer specialising in high-end residential projects in Bangkok, Thailand. It specialises in project development covering both residential and commercial sectors including the double award-winning, Banyan Tree Residences Riverside Bangkok. This exclusive branded condominium development is located on one of the most recognised bends of the Chao Phraya River. The 45-storey high building is just 16 metres from the water’s edge and each of its 133 units in a choice of five different types has fabulous views towards the city.  A  established in 1976 and provides a personal service to clients in delivering to them beautiful buildings of the highest quality. Given the task of creating the award-winning Casa Borghino, a five-bedroom home in Italy on the site of an earlier property which had been demolished in the 1960s, Smallwood Architects were versed in building a truly original residence. To make the most of the landscape, the structure was placed on the edge of a mountain by the Poggio Rosso nature reserve, facing southwest across the valley of the Singerna river with uninterrupted views of Monte Faggetto and Lake Montedoglio.

Built in the style of a classic Tuscan Casa Padronale, the first floor houses a large openplan kitchen, dining and living space with an outside balcony, while the second floor has two double bedrooms. The master suite is generously sized with a walk-in wardrobe, shower room and secret storage. Covered loggias are featured to the east and west, transforming the home into a relaxing, open-walled living space. You’ll find a large bathroom underneath servicing the master bedroom suite to the west and a plant room to the east. A nod to modern living comes in the form of large window openings, insulated walls and roof ensuring that the home remains refreshingly cool in summer and warm in winter.

A

 H,  wholly owned division of Altus Capital, has won awards for the architecture of both the hotel and multiple residences within Mactan Beach Resort & Condominium in the Philippines. The developer’s main goal is to renovate an existing condominium building with 210 keys into a full-service resort with 300 guest rooms as well as new buildings and six villas. As the site is a long, confined plot of land, it has a very narrow opening towards the sea. Therefore, in order to emphasise the sea view, Altus decided to frame the scenery with the existing axis of the main building and visually connect the architecture towards the oceanfront. Newly constructed, four-storey

buildings are located along the site’s border, leaving the central area free for landscape and water features and forming a private haven for guests. Guests are led from the hotel lobby and its reflecting pool, through the courtyard with its waterfall, via the swimming pool to the infinite sea beyond. The business centre, all day dining restaurant, bar and fitness facilities are all located in the newly renovated main building. This connects directly to the new 500m² ballroom building, while other highlights include a spa and two speciality restaurants, one beside the pool which doubles up as a bar and leisure area while the other floats in the sea at the resort’s pier.

  - hotel Nest at Amami Beach Villas by Nest at Nest Hotels, SHC Group, is located in Amami, a subtropical island in the south of Japan. Architect Yasuhiro Yamashita who is from the island found the perfect location for the client and designed the resort as a collection of intimate villas rather than a massive hotel building. Ideally situated on a hillside that gently slopes down to the beach, the entire resort comprises a restaurant and administration building, three villas with private pools and 10 semi-detached villas – five by the ocean and five on the hillside. This results in a total of 23 guest accommodations. When designing the villas, Yamashita made it an essential requisite

to create an architectural form that would represent the culture and nature of Amami. After studying various forms in depth, he created a new form inspired by traditional architectural vocabularies and the shape of conch shells. The main building represents the face of the whole resort, commanding a panoramic view of the ocean. Two large roofs on the restaurant building overlap each other at odd angles, protruding dynamically, giving the space a swirling feel and multilayered complexity. The pool villas are luxurious suites with a plunge pool and panoramic sea views, while the ocean and hillside villas are meticulously staggered to provide guest privacy and create a rhythmical architectural layout.

  , PES-Architects is now one of the leading architectural design firms in Finland. It has a diverse and international design team representing over 10 different nations, with over 60 members of staff operating out of its Helsinki office and a further 10 employees in its Shanghai office. The company won an international invited competition organised by the Fuzhou Government to design the Fuzhou Strait Cultural and Arts Centre. Its goal was to strengthen the cultural image of the city and the Mawei New Town development area. The winning design has been inspired by the petals of a jasmine blossom, which is the city flower of Fuzhou. It is manifested in both the formal language and colour of the architecture.

There are five jasmine petal venues – the multifunctional theatre, opera hall, concert hall, art exhibition hall and cinema centre. Each building has a core area – a semi-public, ‘curved gallery’ that follows the curvature of the main façade. These are all linked by a cultural concourse and a large roof terrace which is accessible by two ramps. On the underground level, a ‘shopping river’ commercial street located along the LiangCuo flood river connects the landscape to the interiors. It also provides a functional link to the metro station and the new town centre. Dividing the large complex into smaller units gives the centre a more human scale and makes it easy for users to navigate both indoors and outdoors.

The General was built as a tribute to Chahid’s late father, who was commonly known as ‘The General’ on the site where he established his first butchery business. This residential development is located within the thriving Northcote area of Melbourne, Australia close to local amenities. A stunning, eye-catching façade greets you on entry to this modern building, which consists of restaurants, retail stores and offices located over the first two floors. Eighty-seven apartments occupy

the preceding floors and consist of one, two and three-bedroom designs. A step inside reveals a beautiful light, airy and modern open plan living space bathed in natural sunlight.   A R set up an architectural studio in Hampstead, NorthWest London, building the new practice upon the foundation of his 20-year international career. The team’s residential portfolio includes new contemporary houses, multi-unit developments, extensions, loft and basement conversions and period refurbishments. The client’s vision for this project was to create a beautiful home with enhancements to the existing building’s external appearance and high-quality interior spaces, respectful to its surrounding environment. The single-family dwelling features four bedrooms – two of them en suite with dressing rooms and one with a shared family bathroom. Situated on Fairholt Street, a quiet mewslike road, the first floor has a master suite with

large fully-glazed doors sliding into the wall pockets, and an en suite with a dressing room. The second floor has two smaller luxurious bedrooms and a large family bathroom, while the upper basement level accommodates the spacious study and the home cinema with a bar, a stunning feature wine storage and the staff suite. The contemporary character of the hall is in striking contrast to the exterior of the building. The light-filled space with its white marble floor feels larger than it is due to the mirrored wall on the left. The living and dining room is the largest open-plan space in the building, with an ethanol fireplace and plasma TV at the rear wall, large sliding doors to the outdoor terrace and plenty of integrated storage.

The project is a distinguished architectural landmark that both enhances its surroundings whilst also demonstrating the ethos and design for which Regal London is renowned. The Compton occupies an unrivalled location in the sought-after district of St John’s Wood, which is just a three-minute walk from two of London’s most renowned attractions – Lord’s Cricket Ground and Regent’s Park. Every apartment benefits from a balcony and – for those on the upper floors –

uninterrupted views onto Lord’s Cricket Ground, Regent’s Park and the city beyond. One of the first cast aluminium clad buildings of its scale in Europe, The Compton is a truly bespoke addition to the London skyline, with a characterful curved facade. With its unprecedented use of aluminium and notable leaf detailing, The Compton is a feat of engineering and design that artfully juxtaposes progressive design. The team at Simon Bowden Architecture undertook a feasibility study of what would be possible to build on the site before exploring architectural options. It was at that point that the idea for using recycled cast-aluminium was born. This gave existing materials a new lease of life and led to the creation of a facade that spearheads innovation and elegance.

 - architectural project, Hancock Street in Melbourne, Australia, is the third in a series of four developments by Squillace Architects for Salvo Property Group. The brief was to transform a former industrial site into a new and vibrant ‘vertical village’. The result is a striking highrise building that comprises residential, recreational, commercial and retail uses to activate this new urban precinct. Hancock Street promotes a variety of one and two-bedroom apartments, responding to the current demands of the inner-city Melbourne market. As with all Salvo projects, the common facilities are of a higher quality those that offered by surrounding buildings. These include a luxury resort style pool and gymnasium and generously landscaped

outdoor recreation areas on the podium terrace level and a rooftop sky garden. The local Melbourne skyline was a key driver of the design, enabling it to harmonise with the surrounding striking high-rise towers while also creating a distinguishing point of difference. Accentuating the slender proportions of the site and its proximity to a motorway, the heavier base of the structure interprets the concrete freeway while the sharpness of the slender tower reflects the speed of the passing traffic. All apartments and common spaces have panoramic views of the Melbourne CBD, Royal Botanic Gardens, Albert Park and towards Port Philip Bay. By providing these vistas to all residents, the egalitarian and community qualities of the building have been fully promoted.

Sunny South Leisure Pavilion, built for businessman Asgi Akbarally, is a three-bedroom weekend retreat on a five-acre site in Piliyandala, Sri Lanka. Fronting the Bolgoda Lake, the recreational project comprises a pavilion, sheltering verandas with living, dining spaces, service and utility areas, with an open terrace connecting the pool and pavilion. The six-metre high pavilion includes bedrooms tucked inside and a recreational deck three meters above. Excluding the bedrooms, all spaces are naturally ventilated by the prevailing lake breezes. The open pavilion incorporates spaces for tropical living and socialising with its gable roof functioning as a gigantic umbrella. The owner’s vintage car collection is displayed in

pavilions forming an interesting visual edge to the lawns and pool. Mercedes-Benz Centre for Excellence in Port City, Colombo is a landmark facility that acts as the corporate flagship for Diesel and Motor Engineering PLC. The 200,000 sq.ft building exemplifies the owner’s longstanding ties with the Mercedes-Benz brand, and its lifelong connection with Daimler-Benz. Designed for brand show-casing, efficiency and sustainability, the project boasts a Gold LEED award. It includes a showroom and state-of-the-art service centre for 100 vehicles. Features include a 200-person expandable auditorium for launches and events, a Vintage Benz Museum, an extensive open terrace for vehicle exhibitions, and a coffee shop, as an integral part of the showroom.    , Appel Design Group (ADG) has continued to grow in size as well as the ability to take on larger and more challenging architectural design projects. Its principals and staff encourage a well-planned and interactive design process with the project design team, striving to exceed the expectations of clients. ADG Architects is very proud of Fifty 58, a newly constructed mixed-use building in Paramus, New Jersey. The project comprises 45 open-concept luxury apartments, including 18 spacious multi-storey units. Privacy for the residents is maintained by separating all of the residential units above a ground floor podium level shared by retail and restaurant uses as well as covered parking for the residents. Residential tenants have access to life-style amenities such as a gym, community rooms

and a rooftop terrace complete with grills and a firepit. ADG’s architectural design challenged the zoning regulations, creating the potential for larger and multi-storey units. This enabled the building to adopt a more luxurious and exclusive feel with volume ceilings, expansive windows, high-end finishes and impressive communal amenity spaces for residents. The focus was to create a distinct and luxurious building that would complement the high expectations of the local Bergen County residents. The project team favoured a contemporary style with open floor plans, expansive glass and open-air balconies to cater to both young professionals and active adults. Complete with a hip urban vibe, the design met the challenge of the client’s ambitious vision, responsibly developing a compact and complex site.

- Ben Cunliffe Architects, based in the Lake District National Park, designs innovative, elegant and sustainable architecture. Established in 2001, the company has brought together talented architects and designers who endeavour to make design and construction an enjoyable experience for clients. One such project is the Windermere House, located on a hillside development above Lake Windermere. The stunning location is populated with generously spaced, high-end, residential properties, and in 2017 UNESCO awarded the Lake District with a World Heritage Site status. The existing Windermere House consisted of a 1970s bungalow that had undergone extensive refurbishment over the years. Although previous refurbishment works had been substantial, the rooms felt constrained

and small. Two garages were attached to the house on the southern gable and a centrally placed front door and hall, dominated the garden views and the main elevation. The space was transformed into a magnificent five-bedroom home. The new kitchen, separated from the main living space by two glazed pocket sliding doors, was opened up to the eaves creating a sense of openness and airiness. Large glazed external doors were added to the ground floor rooms generally maximising natural daylight within the space and providing access to the garden terraces. A floating cantilevered oak and Perspex staircase effortlessly transfers you from the ground to first floor level where the bedrooms enjoy views of Lake Windermere, creating a successful scheme hinged on achieving fluidity in the spatial configuration.

   established in 2011, Dean Thomas Design Group has aimed to transform the luxury residential landscape. With an extensive, award-winning portfolio, the group is continually seeking to redefine conventions within the art of design. Vista Point, an award-winning project by Dean Thomas within the inner city of Calgary, combines the clients’ differing preferences of architectural styles. By balancing traditional materials with strong horizontal forms, the design blends the simplicity and openness of contemporary design with the comfort and elegance of tradition. The concept of the floorplan design was influenced by several key factors from the

clients’ main requirements list; a bright home that maximized the lot and its views, a winged design to keep the bedrooms separate from the entertaining areas and a four-car garage in which the bays did not dominate the front elevation of the home. Situated on one of the most spectacular lots within Calgary, the design capitalises on the astounding city and valley views from every angle off the rear. To match the shape of the lot, and to maximize the rear width, the design was dialled five degrees outward, allowing each room to capitalise on the vistas it offered. Tall ceilings and large oversized windows open up the home, harmonising the residence with the surrounding landscape.

The firm has won an impressive five awards across the following three projects in Iraq. Baghdad Tower is an iconic high-rise development comprising a mix of offices, hotel units, serviced apartments and retail areas. These different entities are carefully arranged around various circulation schemes throughout the upper floors of the tower. The main design inspiration was giving the city a new rising hope, resulting in a unique structure on the Baghdad skyline. The brief for Baghdad Residences was to create a high standard of living for residents

throughout multiple units. Baghdad’s urban grid pattern inspired the design which features residential towers attached to each other, yet staggered to allow openings on all four sides. Following vastu principles in their alignment, self-shadowing façades dramatically reduce heat absorption. Majidi Mall boasts a new architectural style offering a harmony between classic and modern lines in order to emphasise the historical assets of Erbil city with a contemporary edge. The 145,000m² project will accommodate stores, an anchor supermarket, cinema, entertainment areas, restaurants and cafés. Shoppers will also be enticed outside of the mall’s interiors into the surrounding sequence of spaces, forming a new public heart for the city.

   16 years of experience in the construction industry and has grown from a small architectural firm to become one of the largest and most dynamic construction consultancy companies in Vietnam. Ascent Garden Home is its awardwinning mixed-use project, located near the Saigon River in Hochiminh City. Its various elements include a wide range of commercial units, offices, apartments and services. The design goal was to create a viable, functional, efficient and sustainable development that is not only user-friendly but also environmentally-friendly. An important part of this sustainable design involves controlling the amount of natural daylight flowing into the spaces. Thus, all of the functional spaces have windows and doors for

natural ventilation and lighting to help reduce energy consumption during the daytime. Ascent Garden Home’s two, 21-storey high buildings contain a total of 478 units on a land area of 10,076m². The buildings were specially orientated to offer a selection of river, city and green views. The design has an urban master plan that enhances connectivity, convenience and a sense of place by understanding the social, economic and environmental contexts of the site. Desirable, spacious and flexible apartment layouts were devised which would satisfy the diverse needs of different types of occupants. It was also important to achieve high development value by creating luxurious retail and commercial spaces as well as highstandard units and public facilities.
