While most of us would turn to jelly at the thought of standing up on a stage in front of hundreds of strangers and cracking a few jokes, for Kitty Flanagan doing just that was a turning point in her life that has led to a wildly successful 23-year career in comedy. In this issue, Kitty tells us that despite her third show being a “shocker,” she was already hooked. Audiences are undoubtedly hooked as well, with Flanagan now one of Australia’s best-known comedians and in demand for both her award-winning stage shows and a string of television gigs. Another all-around nice guy is Lee Kernaghan, who was only narrowly beaten to our cover by Kitty. As the weather warms up, there’s a multitude of events in and around town. Newcastle China Week, the Imperial Russian Ballet Company, the Newcastle Library Revitalisation and the Australian Superboat Championships to name a few! Enjoy!
