Held on the largest coastal saltwater lake in Australia, the annual catch-and-release style competition is back for its third year, spanning over two days on Saturday 12 and Sunday November 13.
The rules are simple- Choose when on the weekend you, your mates or the family can get together to fish, then take to the lake and enjoy the fun!
Entrants can fish for bream, flathead, tailor and whiting across any of the tidal waters and public beaches of the Lake Macquarie LGA.
There are up to $32,000 in prizes to be won for both kids and grown-ups. Plus, you don’t even have to catch a fish to win as all entries go into our entrant’s prize draw. Don't miss this fun and family friendly event!

The Mad Scientist, Ed Matzenik, will take you on an educational, entertaining scientific adventure which he says is reduced to "such simplicity that I'm happy to call it pseudoscience." Ed uses photos, videos, and live presentations to demonstrate all the major sciences. It is a heady mix of Cosmology, Geology, Electronics, History, Biology and more, with plenty of laughs thrown in. With a background in the music industry, Ed found himself too busy to continue with his passion for science. Now he returns to the stage with his experiments and a flair for show biz. NEWCASTLE BONSAI SOCIETY ANNUAL SHOW

> FRIDAY 11, SATURDAY 12 + SUNDAY 13 NOVEMBER @ CLUB MACQUARIE, 458 LAKE ROAD, ARGENTON
After an absence of two years due to Covid, the annual Newcastle Bonsai Society Bonsai Show is back!
The exhibition showcases a broad range of traditional and contemporary styles of bonsai art, all contributed by club members who have been preparing for this event over the last 12 months. An enormous sales table from Newcastle Bonsai Members will have a huge range of trees from pre-bonsai starters to highly refined old trees and a wealth of other bonsai materials, tools and equipment. The show will house six vendors from the region selling plants, imported and local bonsai pots, tools, wire, artwork and a host of bonsai accessories.
The exhibition will host well-known demonstrators on all three days. Friday at 2pm, Saturday at 10am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm and Sunday at 10am and 1pm. An annual feature of our show is the Kiddies Corner, where children can make their own bonsai. Expert bonsai club members will be available to pot up and wire a tree provided by the club and sponsors. Admission for adults is $5, and children under 12 are free. WHAT'S ON AT LAKE MACQUARIE U3A

MUSICALE
> WEDNESDAY, 16 NOVEMBER, 1:30PM – 3:30PM, AT TERALBA COMMUNITY HALL
This beautiful performance will showcase the orchestra, conducted by John Franks and presenting music from Antonio Vivaldi, Ronald Binge, Jay Ungar, Antonin Dvorak and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Following will be the Ukulele group, conducted by Lorraine Charters presenting familiar songs; Rivers of Babylon, Mull of Kintyre, and The Lion Sleeps Tonight. LMU3A also have a strong recorder group, conducted by Beth Lucas, presenting their renditions of March, Fairest Isle, Cantique de Jean Racine and The Sound of Music. Finally, the Choir, conducted by Merle Everard with Pianists Frances Gibson and Glenys Chambers, will thrill with How Can I Keep from Singing, Mozart’s Ave Verum, Wade in the Water, Remember My Song and an original piece, High Flight, never previously performed.
VARIETY CONCERT
> FRIDAY, 25 NOVEMBER, 2PM – 4PM, AT WARNERS BAY PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
Come along and enjoy an afternoon of performances! There will be performances by the energetic Jazz and Tap classes and a routine from the Exercise for Fun & Fitness group. The flowing movements of Tai Chi will be displayed, and Peace & Circle Dancers will demonstrate how this type of dancing can be an uplifting group experience and quite meditative. Also on display will be Scottish Country Dancers, a Gaelic tradition of the Scottish Highlands. A guest Boot Skootin group of Line Dancers will get you toetapping, and these performances will be interspersed with songs from Christine Tyrrell. Christine is a true all-around entertainer. She began studying singing, dance and acting at a very young age and has travelled the world entertaining and studying her craft.
