ALI ASGARI
ALI ASGARI was born in Tehran, Iran. He is a graduated of cinema in Italy. He is an alumnus of Berlinale Talent Campus 2013. Two of his short films “More Than Two Hours” 2013 and “The Silence” (codirected by Farnoosh Samadi) 2016 were in Short Film competition at Festival De Cannes. His short film “The Baby” was premiered in competition of Venice Film Festival 2014.
His short films were screened in more than 600 film festivals around the world including Sundance, BFI, Melbourne, and won more than150 international awards. “Disappearance” is his first feature film which was developed at Cinefondation La Residence of Festival De Cannes had its world and North American premiere in Venice Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Silence (2016,
FAISAL-AZAM QURESHI has worked in the UK and US on various features and short productions. He was Associate Producer on the BAFTA winning feature film, FOUR LIONS and has continued working with the director on other projects. As a screenwriter, Faisal has worked with companies such as Bazelev, Benaroya Pictures, DNA Films and BBC Drama. He also works on factual productions, the most recent being a major documentary by AMOS Pictures on the Manchester bombing for BBC2. He is a visiting lecturer at the Escula Internacional Cine y TV in Cuba.

KATYA TRICHKOVA
After graduating in law and filmmaking, in 2009 Katya founded and managed Contrast Films, a production company whose main objective is to develop and produce fiction and documentaries. Since 2011, she works very closely with the Bulgarian director and producer Stephan Komandarev as well as an independent producer for other Bulgarian production companies.
Her recent filmography includes ROUNDS by Stephan Komandarev (2019, Sarajevo FF), DIRECTIONS by Stephan Komandarev (2017, Un Certain Regard, Festival de Cannes ), CAINI by Bogdan Mirica (2016, FIPRESCI Prize, Un Certain Regard, Festival de Cannes) and the short films CLOTHES by Vesselin Boydev (2017, Jameson film award – Best Bulgarian Short film at Sofia IFF and Bulgarian Film Academy awards) and CHAIN by Eicke Bettinga (2015, Best short film at Edem IFF and ASIANA IFF).
Katya is EAVE and EURODOC graduate and participant in Sarajevo Talent Campus, Kyoto Filmmakers Lab and ExOriente Programme.
OGNYAN KOVACHEV is Associate Professor of Comparative Literary History and Founding Co-director of the MA “Literature, Cinema and Visual Culture” Master’s Degree Program at the Faculty of Slavic Studies of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. He is the author of Goticheskiyat roman. Genealogia, zhanr, estetika [The Gothic Novel: Genealogy, Genre, Aesthetics, 2004], Sofia: Ednorog, 2004, Literatura i identichnost: preobrazheniya na drugostta [Literature and Identity: Transfigurations of Alterity, Literatura i identichnost: preobrazheniya na drugostta [Literature and Identity: Transfigurations of Alterity]. PASCAL REINMANN was born in 1989 near Bern, Switzerland. After the obligatory school time, he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and in 2009 he finished the technical baccalaureate. In 2012 he started his studies in Film at the Zurich University of the Arts, specialization camera.
Besides his studies, Pascal works as a freelancing cameraman and in 2013 he cofounded the Nordhang Film GmbH. In 2018 he finished his MA in cinematography at the Zurich University of the Arts. For his thesis short film MILLIMETERLE he won the German “First Steps Award” as well as many other awards internationally, including SPECIAL MENTION for BEST STUDENT FICTION at 15th IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival.
He currently lives in Zurich, Switzerland where he works as a DP and focuses on his own projects as a director.
PETER MURDMAA is born on December 1, 1974. His journey in the world of film started at an early age when he was actively engaged in photography and camera work. Peter has graduated in cinematography and in film production in Baltic Film, Media, Arts and Communication School of Tallinn University. He has participated in making documentaries as a cinematographer as well a director, also produced short films in fiction. Peter has organized several movie events, being an active participant in the development of the Estonian film landscape.
In 2013, he was the organizer and director of Sleepwalkers, the international short film festival, which heightened his commitment in further developing the field of short films.
In 2014 he founded ShortEst Short Film Center that has the goal to introduce audiovisual short forms into Estonia and to the rest of the world. ShortEst also aims to promote short films taking into account the needs of filmmakers and those in the film industry as well as those of the audience. His mission is to bring the audiovisual short form to the big screen in as many ways possible.

PHILIP ILSON is the Artistic Director of the London Short Film Festival, which he co-founded in 2004. A premier showcase for cutting-edge UK independent film, LSFF is renowned for its innovative cross-arts programming and showcase of the country’s raw talent for 15 years.
He is also the short film programmer for the BFI London Film Festival, and has worked as a freelance programmer, including at the East End Film Festival (London), Cork Film Festival (Ireland), and the Branchage Festival (Jersey), Latitude music festival, and at Curzon Soho Cinema.

RITA CAPUCHO is a film festival director, programmer and producer. She is codirector of the Porto Femme International Film Festival and programmer of the Porto Femme Sessions. She is PhD student in Artistic Studies, specializing in Film and Image Studies at the University of Coimbra. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Art Studies from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra. She is a member of the Working Group on Artistic Currents and Intellectual Movements of the CEIS20 – Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century of the University of Coimbra and the group Image, Art, Ethics and Society of the Federal University of Pará.
Rita was one of the founding members of the AVANCA | CINEMA –International Cinema Conference – Art, Technology, Communication and also editorial producer of the International Journal of Cinema. She has been a jury member at several international and national film festivals and also belongs to the organization of the São Tomé Festfilm. Member of the Poetic Group of Aveiro, she organizes the Poetry Slam Aveiro, as well as other events related to poetry. She was a programmer at Dolce Vita’s Ovar Cinema, at “The Thursdays of Cinema” of the Movie Theater of Estarreja and at “The Films of Our Tuesdays”of Aveiro Theater.

SANDY LIEBERSON has been a major figure in the film industry in Europe and America since the 1960s, having acted as agent for among others, Sergio Leone, Peter Sellers, Richard Harris, Lindsay Anderson and the Rolling Stones. After producing Performance and Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus, he formed Goodtime/VPS with David Puttnam in 1970, going on to produce some of the most significant British films of the 1970s and 1980s. From 1977 Sandy was International VP of Production and Marketing and later President worldwide production at 20th Century Fox, supervising the international launches of, among others, the early Star Wars films, and supervising the development and production of films by Herzog, Roeg, Bertolucci, Zinneman, Kurosawa and Ridley Scott.
Founder and Chair of Film London, launching the groundbreaking Microwave Fund, Artists Moving Image and Production Finance Market. A Co-founder of The Berlin Talent Campus, originator of the Producers Course at the NFTS and currently an advisor and contributor to a wide range of organizations and projects dedicated to the development of talent and skill in the film and media industries. High Passes takes us from the beautiful Himalayan mountains of India, to the busy metropolis of Kuala Lumpur while we follow India’s first women’s ice hockey team as they compete for international glory.
Cosima Barzini is a London based documentary filmmaker and camera operator. He is French and Italian and has worked on productions for Sky Arts Italy and UK and independent productions of short documentaries, music videos and live events. Cosima has a master‘s degree in Documentary Film from the London School of Communications (UAL) and her documentary A Beautiful Mess (2015) was selected by Watersprite film festival and nominated at Screentest film festival.
The film was made in the found footage convention. Summer of 1968. The mosaic of different archival materials and wedding memories of a marriage whose happiness is overshadowed by the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops on Czechoslovakia. Soon after the wedding, the man is drafted into the army. At the backdrop of dramatic events, there are the beaches, the Festival of Polish Song, and encrypted messages of informers. The accusing tone of Wl. Gomulka, the first secretary of the Polish communist party, is intertwined with carefree, holiday songs. Magdalena Szymków is a documentary filmmaker, screenwriter and film archives researcher with a journalistic background, graduated from Wajda School in Warsaw. She is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents Doc Station 2015 and a co-founder of London based production company Vezfilm. Her previous film “My House Without Me”, a cinematic essay about displacement, was nationally broadcasted, awarded and screened at festivals around the world.

Born in Bucharest in 1973, Gabriel Tempea studied physics in Bucharest and Vienna, subsequently working in research and engineering. Between 2002 and 2003 he attended the School for Artistic Photography in Vienna. In 2015 he graduated in Film from the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied documentary filmmaking with Harun Farocki and Thomas Heise. THE GRIND MESSAGE
Pilot whale hunting has been a practiced tradition for at least half a millennium in the Faroe Islands. Up until the second half of the 20th century, the hunts have been a vital part in the survival of the Faroese people, and are today the source of up to one third of the nation‘s meat consumption. However, the long-lasting tradition is subject to criticism from all over the world. This documentary follows the arguments of six locals on the matter.
28 years old filmmaker Niels Christian Askholm lives in Aarhus, Denmark with his wife and his daughter. Niels has a Master of Arts in Philosophy and Film & Media from Aarhus University. He works as a videographer and produces documentaries in his spare time. His documentaries have been screened at festivals around the globe and won several awards. Niels likes to tell stories of quiet lives, portraying the basic of human living, making the audience ponder on the essentials of being human.

In 1979 a young boy saw dead animals and snakes around a barren river bank. He went out to investigate the reason behind those deaths, he found out it was due to dwindling forest resources. To help the animals, he started planting saplings in the middle of a barren wasteland in Assam. Every day, he planted one new sapling. Aquarium is a choreography of light and motion. Filmed in Bonaire, Caribbean inside breaking waves, in tide pools and underwater, thefilmpresents a uni ueperspectiveontheinfinitelyabundant, exquisite beauty of the ocean when one focuses on the expressive motional and optical qualities of ocean water. For the music, composer Max Berlin created a ‘jazzy’ arrangement of Saint-Saëns’ Aquarium composition (1886, Mouvement VII from the Le carnaval des animaux suite) for bass, piano and percussion that is followed by an orchestral performance of the original Aquarium composition.

More than ever humanity faces the need for collective action. The internet could be the perfect tool to accomplish this, or on the other hand, be used as an instrument for control and disinformation that prevents all possible escape.
Rudi van der Merwe was born and grew up in South Africa. He studied theatre and French literature at the universities of Stellenbosch and Strasbourg. Since 2004 he has been working as a performer and choreographer in contemporary dance. In 2014, he obtained a diploma in post-production from CADSchool Geneva and a postgraduate diploma in cinema from Raindance London.

“Luminous Shadow” is born of an artistic residency process developed in proximity with the collection and the curatorial prism of the International Arts Center José de Guimarães. Through the manipulation of images and sounds from exhibitions, catalogs and conversations, that took place in the Center’s space, an experimental and mediumistic language is assembled, seeking to establish a recombination of times, contexts and origins.

Mohsun is a filmmaker from Azerbaijan. During his MA in The London Film School, he developed his skills as a writer/director and a cinematographer.
13-year old PUCK knows who she is: a fighter. She’s mighty proud she isn’t “like other girls”; instead of worrying about her looks, she trains extensively to win from her male friends at her fencing school. She sees her body as strictly functional; and definitely not as a part of her identity. But when she is confronted by her changing body that starts to develop more traits associated with femininity, and on top of it all gets her first period while at a fencing camp, she is forced to reevaluate the relationship she has to her body and peers.
Fey grew up together with her mum in Amsterdam. After finishing high school, she went to HKU University of Arts Utrecht to study directing and screenwriting. “Excuse me” is based on the story “ The Death of a Clerk” by A.P. Chekhov. Strahil is a sound assistant on a TV show, who is in a hurry to set up the microphone. A few minutes before the show airs, Strahil sneezes right on the shirt. Scared that he might lose his job, because of the incident, Strahil tries everything in his power to apologize to his boss.
Olya Zheleva (33) graduated the University of Sofia with a Bachelor degree in Philosophy. She worked as journalist for some of the local newspaper agencies and as an editor for a few TV shows. Recently, she finished her Master Degree in Film and Television Arts. In 2017 she created her own production company - Blue production Co. Her first short film is @Mladost, based on the short story “My mother’s birthday in Mladost” by Alexander Shpatov. Her second short film “Excuse me” is based on the story “ The Death of a Clerk” by A.P. Chekhov.

ESTA ES TU CUBA is inspired by the real-life stories of the children involved in Operation Pedro Pan, the mass exodus of over 14,000 unaccompanied minors from Cuba to America. It takes place in 1960’s Cuba, Castro has just come into power, and the country is beginning to change. Communism is taking hold and dividing the community. We see this world through the eyes of our main character, ANTON (10) whose life begins to spiral out of control as he realizes his beloved Cuba is changing.
Brian Robau is a Cuban American director, born and raised in Florida. In 2014, he moved to California where he is finishing his M.F.A. in Directing at Chapman University. In 2016, he won the Student Academy Award for his film It’s Just a Gun. He is passionate about exploring the human condition through stories that have an added layer of social consciousness. ESTA ES TU CUBA is his second Student Academy Award winning film.
It’s summer, a boy and his friends go to the river. On the ride there, a story is told about a man and his pet snake that tried to eat him. The boy falls from a tree trunk and gets hurt. A girl follows him. A couple kiss each other, another boy explores the woods and a third one just lays by a tree eating a peach. In four chapters, the heat and the humidity of the forest unravel desires among them.
David Pinheiro Vicente was born in 1996, in Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal. He studied directing at Lisbon Theatre and Film School and is currently taking an MA in Aesthetics. In 2016, he directed the documentary Simão, which was presented at DocLisboa the same year.

However, she explores her body and desire to abolish society’s prejudices against people with prostitutes.
EunJu Ara Choi is a Korean artist based in Berlin, Germany. Her works are seeking to explore mental journey which illustrates unconscious desire and violence. Her visual style is surrealism to blur the boundary between reality and illusion.
HOMESICK
A crisis in a young woman‘s life forces her to return to her parents‘ home. Her reappearance shakes the delicate balance in the family nest.
Hila Einy, Yoav Aluf and Noy Bar, graduates of Bezalel 2018, were born and raised in Israel. During their studies, Yoav specialized in Stop-motion and Hila and Noy specialized in 2d animation technique. TECHNO emerges us into an ever escalating nightlife story full of colourful characters, indecent behaviour and an old man, playing an accordion. A wild party interrupted by a phone battery going low.
Studied animation at NATFA (Sofia) and RITS (Brussels). 2015 took part in VGIK International Summer School in Moscow creating the short ‘The Legend of Dymkovo Toys’. Worked on ‘Postindustrial’ (dir. Boris Pramatarov) in 2015. In 2016 worked at ‘Walking The Dog Studio’ on “From The Snow Covered Hill”. Graduated from NATFA in 2019 with ‘TECHNO’.
The Kite deals with the issue of death, but it does so in a simple metaphorical and symbolic way using the relationship between the little boy and his grandpa. It explains that none of us are here forever and that all living creatures must die, but also shows that death doesn’t mean the end of our journey.
Martin Smatana (1991, Slovakia) finished his master degree of Animation at FAMU, Prague. During his bachelor studies he completed an intership in Nukufilm studio in Tallinn, Estonia. For 5 years he was leading workshops of animation for children. His debut film Rosso Papavero was premiered at Berlinale 2015 Generation Kplus and won 13 international awards. In January 2019 he finished his graduation stop-motion film for children The Kite, which was premiered at Berlinale 2019.

The Outlander is her first animation film and it was made in cooperation with the historian Dr. Annemarie Jordan Gschwend.

R. Sorogoyen began to fulfill his ambition to work in film with his studies in History. During these years at university in Madrid he filmed three short films, studied in a diverse range of cinema schools and finished his History degree. In 2004 he entered ECAM, specializing in Film Screenwriting and at the same time began work on his first projects as a fiction screenwriter for television. Dealing with what comes naturally isn’t easy, especially for animals. In “Animal Behaviour”, the latest animated short from the Oscar®-winning team of Alison Snowden and David Fine (“Bob’s Birthday”), five animals meet regularly to discuss their inner angst in a group therapy session led by Dr. Clement, a canine psychotherapist.
Snowden grew up in England. Her interest in art and storytelling led to a degree in graphic design and then a degree from Britain’s National Film and Television School. It was there that she met her partner and husband, David Fine. Toronto-born Fine has been making films since the age of 13. Snowden and Fine worked in live action and animation, co-directing the Oscar nominated animated short “George and Rosemary”. Together they created Oscar-winning “Bob’s Birthday”, produced the “Ricky Sprocket: Showbiz Boy” series, and developed the series “Shawn the Sheep”.
An aging Chinese mom suffering from empty nest syndrome gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life as a lively, giggly dumpling boy. Trevor Jimenez is a Canadian born filmmaker living in Berkeley, who has worked as a story artist in animation for over 10 years- most notably at Pixar & Henry Selick‘s Cinderbiter studios. His student film “Key Lime Pie” screened at numerous international festivals including Annecy & Mike Judge‘s „The Animation Show Vol. 4“. This is his first professional film and a personal labor of love he had worked on for over 10 years. Currently Trevor works in the story department at Pixar while pursuing his own creative projects.
SHORT MATTERS! – THE EUROPEAN SHORT FILM AWARD ON TOUR BY EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY
The creation of the European Film Academy (EFA) was the initiative of a group of Europe’s finest filmmakers brought together on the occasion of the first European Film Awards Ceremony held in November 1988. EFA was finally founded in 1989 as the European Cinema Society by its first president Ingmar Bergman and 40 filmmakers to advance the interests of the European film industry. Wim Wenders was elected as first chairman of the association which two years later was renamed European Film Academy.
The European Film Academy (EFA) now unites more than 3,000 European film professionals with the common aim of promoting European film culture. Throughout the year, the EFA initiates and participates in a series of activities dealing with film politics as well as economic, artistic, and training aspects. The program includes conferences, seminars and workshops, and a common goal is to build a bridge between creativity and the industry. These activities culminate in the annual presentation of the European Film Awards, which are presented jointly with EFA Productions GmbH. In a total of 23 categories, among them European Film, European Director, European Actress and European Actor, the European Film Awards annually honor the greatest achievements in European cinema.
SHORT MATTERS is the European Film Academy’s short film tour which brings the nominated short films to audiences across Europe – and beyond. The short film program is organized in co-operation with a series of film festivals throughout Europe. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the short films in competition with a nomination in the European Film Awards’ short film category.

A geographical construction makes use of ‘our’ collective image of Africa and puts it to the test through inaccuracies. An archaeological find is made in a mine: a Ferrari. We tag along with Joachim on his everyday rounds; his heart is set on realizing a common energy project. The Museum of Prussian Cultural Heritage is run by a black woman. She presents artefacts from Western consumer culture with a special emphasis on German products. Joachim is involved in the ritualistic production of energy in the village, but gets excluded, finally catapulting himself out of the story/history’.
U. Braun works and lives in Berlin. Between 1996 - 2005 he studied painting and film at universities in Vienna, Helsinki and Potsdam. He has been using the medium of video to explore the field between the visual arts and cinema since 1997. He is one of the key figures who transfers painting into video art and has played a significant role in defining and further developing the genre of video collage.

In 2016 he won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale with A Man Returned. His recent film, A Drowning Man, was selected for the official competition at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival and nominated for a BAFTA in 2018.

He lectures at the Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Wuerttemberg in Ludwigsburg and at Zurich University of the Arts. Since 2014 he has been studying directing at the Film University Babelsberg.

Reber Dosky is a Kurdish-Dutch filmmaker. Living in The Netherlands since 1998, he studied film direction at the Netherlands Film Academy. The short documentary the Sniper of Kobani (2015) brought the international breakthrough of Reber Dosky and was awarded at multiple festivals.

THE YEARS
A woman gives voice to the text of The Years by A. Ernaux. Neither the words, nor the images, drawn from the family films, are expected to complete the narration of her story. The mountains on the coast, a seascape, gardens, terraces, rooms of an apartment emerge like reflections of a fragmented and ever-changing memory, uncovered by a new light. The details in each gesture, in each face, of scenes of a life lived amongst family, reassembled and freed from their original context, become expressive elements of a confession that is both personal discovery and collective narration.
Director and film editor, Sara was the first Italian to receive the Rolex Arts Prize for Film in 2012-2013; she worked under the mentorship of Walter Murch in New York. She directed several short films and founded Avventurosa, an independent film production company, with P. Marcello, with whom she has worked over 10 years as film editor, researcher and producer. She has collaborated among others with A. Sokurov, F. Maresco and G. Rosi.

WHAT‘S THE DAMAGE
WHAT’S THE DAMAGE is a proposition and provocation, answering back to ongoing crises under white patriarchy, relaying and augmenting feelings and gestures of chronic unease, protest and dissent. Phillipson’s summons and riposte storms in via menstrual blood, rising up against leadership circle-jerks, weeping vortexes, seared orang utans, animal-fat banknotes, and advancing supermoons, pizzas and drones.
Heather Phillipson works across video, sculpture, music, drawing and text. Her current and upcoming projects include the Fourth Plinth, Trafalgar Square in 2020, a major commission for Art on the Underground’s flagship site at Gloucester Road, an online commission for the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and a solo show at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (all 2018).

Matthias Phlips (a.k.a. MAT) studied Graphic Design at Luca School of Arts Ghent. After graduating, he started working as a graphic designer in Ghent, while developing his career as an illustrator and cartoonist.

SOFIA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is the biggest film festival in Bulgaria. It began in 1997 and attracts more than 85 000 spectators annually. Django is an eleven-year-old gypsy boy who lives with his family in an abandoned trailer near a train railway. Every morning his father jumps onto the train to hitch a free ride into town to look for food and earn money. In the mornings and evenings the father prepares his son to tackle the hardships of the life that are necessary to keep the family alive.

PORTO FEMMEINTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL SHORT FILM SELECTION
In 2016 the XX Element Project – Cultural Association was born with the objective of promoting the artistic works carried out by women and also to show through them and through the development of cultural, civic and social activities, the women’s rights and gender equality.
The association intends to create privileged spaces of dissemination of these works, where the main focus will be the cinema.
One of the major projects of the association goes through the annual holding of the Porto Femme – International Film Festival dedicated to women’s directors, as well as the organization of female cinema cycles, a program dedicated to women’s point of view. It is intended to combat, in this way, the under-representation of women in cinema.
The PORTO FEMME SESSIONS on last Wednesdays of each month, at MAUS HÁBITOS, will be the meeting point for debate and reflection on the most varied issues.
Through cinema it’s intended to educate and inform the public on social and political issues affecting women in the world. It’s intended to give a plural voice to feminisms with an intersectional view for them, seeking to cover the different groups and struggles.
Anikó, 61, is about to leave Hungary to move in with her daughter‘s family abroad. This is her final day before departing from everything she used to have.
Born in 1990, Hungarian director Hajni Kis first studied acting before moving on film and philosophy studies at Pázmány Péter University. She got accepted to the University of Theatre and Film Arts of Budapest in 2013, where she currently studies film directing. In her first year, she made two short documentaries (’Beauties’, ’2nd Floor’). Her 2nd year project was the short fiction ‚Beautiful Figure‘, which in 2016 was nominated for a Student Academy Awards. She recently finished her BA graduation movie ‚Last Call‘, and is now preparing her first feature film.

A poetic journey through the history of desire and sexuality where the female pleasure, long ignored and repressed, takes pride of place.
Rocío Álvarez holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain, where she majored in painting. Later, she specialized in animated filmmaking at La Poudrière school in Valence, France, where she directed the short film “Écart de conduit”, selected for the Cartoon d‘Or Award 2013. She currently lives in Brussels and has just finished her film “Simbiosis Carnal”, produced by the animation studios Zorobabel and Camera-etc.

On Chinese New Year Eve, ten-year old Yang Lan is anxiously waiting for her singer mother to come home. While the big family is celebrating loudly with Mahjong, fireworks, dinner and laughs, she struggles to reconcile her urge to feel, at least for a brief moment, loved.
Chieh is studying at Columbia University directing and screenwriting MFA in New York City. She graduated from National Chengchi University in Taiwan. She wrote and produced the short film “Ping Pong Coach” , won the best student short film award in Tribeca Film Festival. “Cronos” the short film she wrote and directed, was in the semifinalist in Student Academy Award. She also won the best editing prize in Golden Harvest Award. She become the member of Golden Horse Film Festival Academy in 2016. She is fascinated by fantasy movie and magical realism. Most of her films before going to the USA were inspired by the bedtime story her father told her when she was a child.

Feyrouz Serhal acquired her Master‘s degree in Film and Screen Studies at Goldsmiths College University of London, after having worked extensively as director and producer at some of the most prominent Arab TV channels in the Middle East. She has also written and directed several independent short video works. Her rst short ction lm Tshweesh was premiered in Locarno in 2017. Serhal is now in development of I am here but you can‘t see me, her rst feature lm as director.

The anthology feature film “Happiness Machine” is an innovative, interdisciplinary project devised for public concerts and cinema screenings, organized by Klangforum Wien throughout Europe and abroad.
The films reflect on various aspects of “The Economy for the Common Good”. Its opportunities and challenges, and its theory and practice, will be brought up for discussion through the mediums of animation, music, and an advanced participatory form of music theatre.

BLOOMERS
Animated fabric brings the story of a lingerie factory in Manchester to life. Silk, cotton and lace go under the camera, as the workers recount the history of Headen & Quarmby, the UK garment manufacturing industry, and British family traditions of making. A specially composed soundtrack by Swedish composer Malin Bång, inspired by sounds of sewing machinery, evokes the ups and downs of the factory.
A fisherman and his wife live in a hovel. One day the fisherman catches an enchanted fish. The man tells his wife of the strange incident, and they decide to ask the fish to use its powers and improve their circumstances. They return to see the fish again and again, each time becoming more ambitious with their demands. As their greed grows, the world around them becomes more and more disturbed; the seas rise, and the earth becomes more polluted and dangerous. When the fisherman and his wife demand to become Gods, the flounder decides enough is enough. Through painted animation by Elizabeth Hobbs, and an original score by composer Carola Bauckholt, the Brothers Grimm fable ‘The Fisherman and his Wife’ is brought vividly to life.
In our project we focus on the terms cooperation, trust, sharing and solidarity, which Christian Felber calls central values for the Common Good Economy. We want to translate these key terms into moving still lifes. The idea is for each term to create the atmosphere of a microcosm that works within itself and runs in an endless loop. We are both fascinated by objects, their materiality, peculiarities and stories. Therefore, we want to work with specific objects, both images and sounds, trying to reveal their essence.

HIERARCHY GLITCH
In a purely abstract way, Hierarchy Glitch deals with a core idea of the Common Good Economy model. Both its visual patterns and the ensemble’s voices are tied up in hierarchical behaviour that restrains the full potential and mobility of each individual element. Soon the matrix pattern collapses, connections and directions are lost, resulting in entropic disorder. This is the moment when individual units autonomously connect with the rest, forming organic and balanced constellations. They develop a collective organism, a resilient entity.
In Lickalike we give voice to our reflections on the necessity and the character of artificial and natural forms of organisation. The focus – both visual and auditive – is on the connectivity between everything that is alive. From this point of view, the work examines such self and externally organised systems that have become the basis of our current social understanding. It’s all about individual and social identity, about interconnectedness and collectivity, social responsibility and our digital and natural living environment.
In a circus, an ensemble of acrobats tries to create a perfect pyramid of human bodies. However, one of them has problems with his hand and cannot hold his colleague so that the pyramid collapses. The choreographer now has three options to achieve his goal: He can replace the injured acrobat with a new, more capable person; he can replace the whole ensemble, or keep the team, but find the right spot in his choreography for everyone involved. All three processes can have the same result; however, the essential difference lies the path that takes them there.
Starting out in a seemingly old-fashioned world of grandeur and glamour, PANTOPOS takes us on a journey of discovery to a surreal and peculiar place of new and abstract ideas, where nothing is as it used to be. The only thing left that is familiar to us are the people who inhabit this place, and their gestures. In the end we are left with the question whether this new place is just a dream or already part of our reality.
Suggestion of Least Resistance is based on archive materials which depict The July Revolt of 1927 (Der Brand des Wiener Justizpalastes), a monumental episode still acutely relevant. The animation film is a rhythmic, poetic surge, comparing us, our lives, and our very humanness to burning paper in the breeze. Images of sheets of paper flying through the broken windows of the burning palace are juxtaposed with images of the crowds as they convene and disperse. The music charges these powerful images with its own aliveness and colour.

THE HAPPINESS MACHINE
The film is conceived as a simulation of a non-existent Videogame concerned with the business practices of a company which at first sight seems ideal. However, what happens if we look at the wider picture? Gradually, details are revealed – details that show the real emotions of people, various malpractices, violations of human rights and the environment… The “ideal” space, conceived and guided by financial considerations as the key objective, is being deconstructed before our eyes.

The project explores urban edges as they correspond with the marginality of social groups who inhabit them. Distance, the anonymity of the architectural setup, decay, but also movement and interaction are subjects of a raw sketch that seeks to integrate a discussion about space and segregation into the discourse of the Common Good. The audio-visual language of the film uses a transparency and starkness of approach to reflect its subject matter. The fusion of architectural lines with sound through unexpected correspondences and synchronizations aims to generate a new kind of intermedial proposition.

Everyone carries their own ego and its consequences. Alexa, a rebel in her twenties, with open sexuality, wears the bruises made by her father, until she realizes that this is the smallest problem.
Rositsa Trayanova is a Bulgarian film director and screenwriter. In 2012 she graduated from Art College of Screen Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria. After that she continues her education in EICAR, St. Denis, France. Now, she is a student in University of Paris-Est.

Nadya Todorova was born and raised in Bulgaria, but lived for years in Germany, Sweden and the Czech republic. She graduated from APP Screenwriting at FAMU, Prague in 2018. In 2017 she was chosen for the first edition of the From page to stage masterclass in Varna, and in 2018 – for Talents Sarajevo and the interfilm Script Pitch Competition.
Desert Rose is a project that led us to Varna, Bulgaria where we faced the reality of the Romani community. This minority is often exposed in a unilateral way, focusing mainly on their financial and social status. Desert rose aims to look through the eyes of two gipsy children and portrait their world as a fairy tale.
Alexander Georgieff is born in Varna, Bulgaria in 1996. Following an artistic path throughout his teenagehood doing film and theatrical projects, he is now in his final year at The University of Gloucestershire, in the United Kingdom, studying Film Production. Desert Rose is the first documentary he did in his second year and the second film in total.
Elena, a young woman is captured by the Turkish Janissaries. Together with five other girls she‘s enslaved. Victims of women traffic and sexual harassment, the girls try to find a way to escape. The only thing they don‘t know is there is no way out!
Tina Markovich is an aspiring director and filmmaker. She‘s an award-winning graduate of University of Portsmouth. Tina grew up in Burgas, Bulgaria and has always had a passion for telling stories, that would leave a lasting memory in people’s mind.

Michael Downey is an award-winning investigative journalist. He is on his way to Sofia from London to investigate a story on the penetration of the Italian mafia in Bulgaria when he meets a mysterious woman and things start getting complicated.
Stanislava Ivy is the writer and director of „I know what you did“. The story is a criminal short thriller that deals with current world topics through the point of a human story. This is the director’s debut short film after she completed a filmmaking course at the New York Film Academy. Stanislava has a lot of experience as a journalist herself.

Stefan Apostolov first appeared in the media as a rising director when his short film about his hometown, Plovdiv, swept social media. The film was accepted with great accolades by Bulgarian and international audiences and is the reason why Stefan’s production company, Magnific Motion, has been successfully producing film/ video content since then. Stefan’s background in acting allows him to see a film from more than one perspective. Stefan recently collaborated with BBC on an episode of their show, Great Continental Railway Journeys.
