2007-current Associate with Women Scholars and Professionals (within Graduate and Faculty Ministries)
Prayer Requests:
• For Women Scholars and Professionals: We’re so pleased about the quality of our connections and content, but we long to expand our reach! For this to take shape, we need an increase in team members, financial resources, and ministry connections.
• Jon and I are smack-dab in the middle of our “sandwich generation” days. Our girls are adolescents in high school and our elderly parents depend on us for extra support. We receive all of this with joy, and at the same time we acknowledge that these transitions require a great deal of emotional strength. I’ve been praying Psalm 1 for our kids especially, and praying for a capacious heart to hold all that God will bring our way in the coming years.
• We recently suffered the closing of our local congregation, Grace Evangelical Covenant Church, where we had committed ourselves for the past 20 years. We’re planning to spend this year visiting churches and seeking our next church home, but the grief still feels fresh, and the transition is daunting for our whole family. We would appreciate prayers for the Lord to lead us to a new community!
Brian Chang Associate Director,

Faculty Ministries
Currently, I serve in Graduate and Faculty Ministry in two roles: the Associate Director of Faculty Ministry & an Assistant Regional Director of the South Central GFM region. I have loved accelerating and growing Faculty Ministry especially during the pandemic. We found that professors appreciated and benefitted from our online gatherings and resources throughout the pandemic. Christian faculty often have a need to connect with other Christian faculty in their locale, and we have been able to provide these connections. I have also enjoyed serving in the South Central region, especially as we strive to grow in diversity. Outside of InterVarsity, I serve on the board of Friends of Refugees, a non-profit organization in Clarkston, Georgia. Clarkston is known as the most diverse square mile in America, due to refugees being resettled there since the 1980’s. I’ve enjoyed using my gifts in a different arena and helping to grow this organization. I love spending time and eating new foods with my family. And I love trying new recipes!

James Choung Vice President, Strategy & Innovation

I love empowering rising generations to move from skeptic to worldchangers in Jesus’ name. And I get to work with gifted and big-hearted people particularly in the Strategy & Innovation department who want to see revival happen in their lifetime. For fun, I thoroughly enjoy trekking through national parks with my family and friends, and often swing a racket in hopes of playing something like tennis.

John Criswell Senior Global Ministry Specialist, Director of World Assembly 23
Having served over the years as a pastor, church planter, missionary, InterVarsity staff (both US and Canada), and IFES staff, you might wonder if I can’t make up my mind about what my ministry is. In reality, God has taken us on an incredible journey, filled with challenge, variety, and opportunity. We feel incredibly blessed by the opportunity to serve through InterVarsity and IFES. Throughout it all, a recurring theme has been what John Wesley said about his ministry: “The world is my parish.” My entire family has been involved in some way – from Margie volunteering in Arts Ministry to Jared helping me run Urbana tracks to Amanda helping me with prayer letters and even my two grandsons who sport the latest InterVarsity onesies! Our prayer is that whatever fruit has come from our efforts will endure and that it will only be the beginning.

In my capacity as Associate National Director for Chapter Planting, it has been my joy to see new ministries start at unreached campuses. I really enjoy teaching and training and coaching staff and students in the skills needed to plant. When I'm not working, I love working with Carrie in home renovation projects, and spending time outdoors. I've played guitar for most of my life, and currently play in a local punk rock band.

Jason Gaboury National Director of Alumni Relations

I like to introduce myself as the husband of one wife (Sophia) and the father of two daughters (Malaya and Serena). This role focuses on revitalizing and accelerating campus ministry by cultivating alumni support for chapter accounts. The Director of Alumni Relations will serve our mission by envisioning, creating, and ultimately, curating an alumni experience that helps new and older alumni Give, Advocate, Pray, and Serve.

Rick Goetsch Associate Learning Director, Learning and Talent
I found InterVarsity as a student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and haven’t been able to shake it since! I’ve always had the heart of a teacher, gravitating towards opportunities to train in every role I’ve had on staff. My wife and I fell in love in Siberia on a Global Project. She winsomely helps compensate for the flat sides of my introverted Enneagram 5 nature and has been a wise and wonderful partner in raising our three teenage daughters. I find woodworking and gardening to be places of creativity and restoration (usually!). I relax by reading science fiction/fantasy and literary classics and watching British murder mysteries with my wife. And I try not to let my coffee and beer snobbery annoy those around me too much!

Josh Howell Regional Ministry Director

Twenty-five years ago, I moved from North Carolina and joined the staff team in Texas. I was the last of a string of “planting staff” that came to revitalize our work in what was then the Southwest region (Texas and Oklahoma). I’ve had the privilege of being part of RR’s story of growth, going from about 11 staff and 500 students in Texas to having 2000 students and over 60 staff in four states (pre-pandemic). I love leadership, specifically, bringing teams together to help them accomplish the ministry God placed in their hearts.
Leading the team (RLT) that leads the Region is one of my greatest joys. I deeply value encouraging people to have big faith and take bold steps forward toward God’s plans in their life. I love seeing ministry grow and students come to faith. My biggest passion is being involved in my family’s life. InterVarsity provides the flexibility to work from home and spend a great quantity of time with my family (not just quality). Our family loves vacations (especially in Hawaii), everyday fun and being together. My wife and I still enjoy going on dates. I teach Spin (14 years) as a “side hustle” at my local YMCA.

Ellen H su Associate Director of Rights and Contracts; IVP
I’m associate director of rights and contracts at IVP. I also serve on the board of the Licensing and Subsidiary Rights Association (LSRA) and have served as a track leader for licensing and rights training events held by ECPA (Evangelical Christian Publisher’s Association). I’m a trained spiritual director, an occasional preacher, and I currently serve on the vestry for our church. My husband, Al, and I have been married for 25 years and have two sons, Josiah (21) and Elijah (17). I love taking long walks, seeing musicals, reading books, and having deep conversations with friends.
Most people who work in the area of subsidiary rights and licensing don’t specifically plan on this line of work. We tend to come upon the role by surprise and then discover how much we enjoy it. This is true for me as well. When I started work at IVP I was a recent college graduate who only knew a little about IVP. A position opened up at IVP that seemed a better fit than the job I was in. I applied for the position, was hired, and discovered that I love the work and the people. I love the books that IVP publishes and have been shaped by the many (many!) IVP books I’ve read over the years. I love the people who work at IVP their dedication to God and their mutual love of books and literature ministry. I love the publishing partners around the world that I’ve been blessed to work with. In my work, I get to help publishing partners and others discover IVP books to translate into their own language or produce in different formats. I love seeing the ministry of IVP books expand through these licensed editions and one of my favorite things is seeing copies of licensed editions after they are published. In the 25 years I’ve been at IVP we’ve signed over 8600 licensing contracts for our books to be published in 74 different languages.
