REPORT OF GIFTS
MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear Families and Friends of ISB,
As I begin my seventh year at ISB and my second full year as Head of School, I am amazed to see the growth of our school and the generosity shown by our community. This year, ISB has gone from strength to strength as we advanced our work on our Vision 2021 Strategic Plan. We were also excited to see our first graduating class, the Class of 2015, set off on new adventures in college and around the world! The year also saw us undergo a successful International Baccalaureate five-year visit. In the spring, an IB evaluation team visited us for three days, and they were particularly impressed with the commitment and professionalism of our teachers, the skills and knowledge of our students, and the breadth of our program. Our Middle School Spanish program also won the Middle School of the Year award, given by the Spanish Ministry of Education’s International Spanish Academies organization. As I reflect on these accomplishments, I remain in gratitude for your gifts to the ISB Annual Fund for Excellence that allow us to continue to invest in our program with additions such as Middle School electives, opportunities for groups of teachers to go on a math conference together, and a new trip to Guadeloupe for our 7th Graders. We would not be able to continue to add these programs and experiences for our students without your support. Another goal of our Vision 2021 Strategic Plan, revitalizing our yard, was launched this past year. Anyone who has visited ISB recently during the school day or after school program can clearly see how this newly renovated space impacts our students’ daily lives. Our students absolutely love our yard and are using it to its fullest extent, playing tag, soccer, basketball, foursquare, hopscotch, and a multitude of other creative games. The renovation work also rehabilitated sections of our side yard, which had been out of bounds for physical games, so we even gained more space by replacing the surface. This work was made possible due to the generosity of our community and in particular a small group of donors, whose visionary support allowed us to complete the work over the summer. Our Capital Initiatives will continue throughout this next year with further enhancements to our yard and improvements to our STEM offerings by building a new, designated STEM space. I hope everyone will participate in making these plans a reality. I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the entire community for contributing your time and resources to ISB, which made for an incredibly productive year. I look forward to continue building on this success together with you. Best regards,
Joe Santos Head of School

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF BROOKLYN
MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Dear ISB Community,
As I sit down every year to write this letter, it gives me an opportunity to take stock of what has happened at ISB in the last 12 months. As always, I am amazed by how much has changed, improved, and leapt forward this year. We are a fairly young school, entering our 15th year, yet it feels like we are still growing exponentially! We have more students and more new families than ever before, which makes the school even more vibrant. We also have more teachers and staff to make it all happen. To top it all off, we have a beautiful new yard to jump, run around, and play in. As with children, the school needs care, guidance, and nurturing to grow. As a mother of three daughters, I certainly can relate to the need for parenting in adolescence! This guidance for the school is provided day-in and day-out by a very caring leadership team, in conjunction with the always engaged Board of Trustees. We have already planned for more development in the near term; this year will see work on enhancing our STEM programs with investments in the STEM classroom for the Middle School and the acquisition of more science materials for the Lower School. This year, the Board and school leadership team is preparing for the next Strategic Plan, and we can also look forward to exciting, new initiatives for the school further out in the future. I am also amazed by the growth that is generated by our community itself. We have always been a grassroots school, and last year, we saw a myriad of initiatives from teachers and parents take shape, including parents’ critical work to support diversity and inclusion, many clever and efficient changes brought by the Green Dragons, sparkly social events organized by the Parents Association, and heartwarming community service taken on by our students, teachers, and parents, just to name a few. What a proactive group of like-minded people! This community spirit also transpired through your generosity. Last year, we came together in support of the Fund For Excellence, and this support was vital to ISB’s program. The school counts on your gifts to the Fund for Excellence every year to make our children’s learning experience a reality every day. I hope you will continue to give generously this next year. In the spring, a team of administrators, Trustees, and parents set off on a mission to launch the first phase of our Capital Initiatives, a fundraising campaign needed to achieve the goals of our Vision 2021 Strategic Plan. It started with a quiet phase, which was very successful and provided the funding for the essential renovation of the yard. This is a true example of our community responding to a call for action. The second phase is being launched this fall and will be extended to our whole school community. We hope to see very high participation from you all, as a sign of our solidarity and community spirit. Finally, I would like to thank you all for what you do for the school and would like to wish you harmonious and balanced growth in your personal, professional, and community lives in 2020. Sincerely,
Sophie Panchal President, ISB Board of Trustees Parent ‘20, ‘23 and ‘30

Thank you to ISB parents Miranda Brooks and Mason Wickman for helping us envision these new spaces.
In the spring of 2019, we entered the quiet phase of fundraising for Capital Initiatives related to the ISB Vision 2021 Strategic Plan. Thanks to the generosity of a small group of donors, we were able to commence Phase One of these Capital Initiatives to resurface the play yard with turf over the summer. We are now entering Phase Two of these plans, and your support will allow us to furnish the yard with new play materials and a climbing wall, a learning garden, and a new science classroom, as well as further investments in our STEM program. We look forward to participation from our entire community in this next phase.
