Report of Gifts July 2016-June 2017

Dear Friends and Family of ISB, It is with great pleasure that I share with you the wonderful growth that we saw at ISB during the 20162017 school year thanks to the efforts of our dedicated community of educators, students, and parents. I am especially grateful to our donors and volunteers, whose support each year has allowed us to continue strengthening our program and our students’ experiences. We kicked off the year by “living in the moment” with world-renown artist Hervé Tullet, who led a schoolwide exploration of color and shapes on murals that covered our entire backyard. Even the most timid artists among us rolled up their sleeves and experienced the passion that Hervé brings to his work. The fall included so many other exciting firsts too: • We welcomed a group of 7th Grade students from the Ramón y Cajal school in Madrid. Over their two week stay, they lived with ISB host families, spent their days in ISB classes, and saw the NYC sights. • Our ISB Dragons soccer team won its first championship! • And after waiting patiently for the flooring, our newly renovated Learning Commons opened. The new “loft-like” space is now home to our 12,000+ book trilingual library collection, a dedicated Middle School study space, conference rooms, and several of our administrative offices. In February, I had the pleasure of being a chaperone for the 5th Grade trip to Washington, D.C., where our full agenda included visiting the newly opened National Museum of African American History and Culture. It was rewarding for my first visit to this new and important museum to be with ISB students. It was also an opportunity for me to pause and reflect on the ongoing work we do at ISB to ensure that our curriculum and our community include many different voices. Last year also included much analysis and forward thinking, as a Board-led task force engaged the entire community in the process of creating ISB’s new Strategic Plan, Vision 2021. Through our planning activities, we were reminded of the core reason that families and staff come to ISB: to be part of a mission-driven community committed to raising global citizens. We used valuable feedback from our staff, parents, alumni, students, and Board to imagine the ways we can continue to grow and strengthen our school and to set our strategic priorities for the coming years.

Finally, as I conferred diplomas on the Class of 2017, presiding over my last graduation as Head of School, I was incredibly grateful for the many people who nurtured the growth and development of these students. I am hopeful that all our alumni will continue to be adventurers, advocates, and leaders as they move on to the next chapter of their lives, and I look forward to hearing about their successes in high school and beyond. Thank you to all of our parents, staff, grandparents, and friends for creating such a special community at ISB. I look forward to visiting in the years to come to see the many wonderful ways that ISB and its community continues to grow and thrive. Sincerely,

Rebecca Skinner Founding Head of School and ISB Co-founder Parent ‘17

Dear ISB Community, Last year, the Board of Trustees announced that Rebecca Skinner had made the decision to move on and pursue new professional adventures in Dubai. She created and nurtured a very innovative concept at ISB, and it has since grown into a mature and vibrant school. This growth was possible because of Rebecca and her team’s hard work, and also because of the strong engagement with ISB that our parents and community members have shown throughout the years. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank all of our donors, whose financial support has been instrumental to our school’s success, and to the volunteers who have helped make ISB the place it is today. Joe Santos, our new Head of School, is already making his marks everyday on the school life. The beginning of his tenure is also coinciding with our new Strategic Plan. In September of this year, the Board of Trustees adopted ISB’s Vision 2021, which details our strategic priorities for the next three years and outlines numerous initiatives that will make the school even stronger and more special. In order to achieve its strategic goals, the school will, as always, need your support, and our fundraising efforts this year will continue through the Annual Fund for Excellence. With a target of $250,000, your donations will allow us to continue enhancing our children’s learning experience today, while also creating strategic growth in the school’s program next year. With Joe Santos at the helm, we are ready to write the school’s next chapter and to see our program continue to flourish. The Board of Trustees thanks you in advance for your support in this endeavor and wishes you a happy and inspiring year in 2018! Sincerely,
