What’s Included? The boarding school program includes tuition, school fees, boarding, books. Fights, uniforms, athletic/music fees, health insurance (approximately $1200), personal spending money, visa application fee, SEVIS fee, school field trips, the $550 iE program fee are NOT included in the boarding school program.
Why take a gap year between high school and university? A better question is, why not? The year between high school and university, often referred as the ‘gap year’, can be an essential time of growth and opportunity. It provides an opportunity to: • Experience a different culture and learn a new language by studying abroad • Gain independence, maturity and study skills to enhance your future success • Dedicate time to focus on your personal wellbeing and “re-charging your batteries” • Provide additional time to improve your grades or SAT scores • Stand out to future universities and employers looking for courageous, open-minded and global participants

What’s Included? The “estimated tuition & boarding” cost includes tuition (based on 12 credit hours), fees, housing, some meals, application fee, books and health insurance. This is an estimate and you are paying each cost directly to each entity. Flight, personal spending money, visa application fee, SEVIS fee, the $3000 iE program fee are NOT included in the college program.
Have you graduated from high school? Are you independent and want to experience college and life in another country? iE offers two programs for international students seeking to attend a US college: 1. Short-term – Participate in an exchange year abroad while attending a community college for one term (10 weeks), one semester (15 weeks), or one academic year. 2. Degree Seeking - Earn an associate degree (two years) at a community college and transfer to a four-year university for your bachelor degree.
What is a Community College?
Community college is a two-year school that offers reasonably priced higher education as a pathway to a four-year degree. According to the American Association of Community Colleges, almost half of all undergraduate students in the United States attended a community college. These community colleges have nationally-recognized accreditation.
What are the Benefits of Going to a Community College?
• Admission is easier. TOEFL scores and academic requirements are usually lower, or not required, for admission. • You can commit to one term or one semester and do not have to commit for the full two-year degree program. • Tuition is between 20% and 80% less than a university. • Class sizes are usually smaller and more one-on-one support and tutoring options are available. • They offer noncredit programs, such as English as a second language (ESL), skills retraining, community enrichment programs and cultural activities.
Housing Options
You may choose a homestay, dormitory, or apartment. While these options all have many benefits, homestay has the added benefit of full immersion into the American culture. Additionally, you are likely to develop your English more quickly living with an American family than you will living independently in an apartment. Homestay programs also vary. You may choose to stay with a family but live independently, taking responsibility for purchasing your own food and preparing your own meals. For additional money, you may choose to eat breakfast and/or dinner prepared by your family, often eating meals together. Regardless of which option you choose, you are responsible for your own transportation, which isn’t usually a problem as most community colleges are in urban areas where public transportation is readily accessible.
iE’s Program Fee
iE’s program fee is $3,000. iE will provide you a variety of options and help you select the right community college for you and your budget. Applying to study in the US is not a simple process. iE staff will assist you through this process, as well as the process of selecting the right housing option for you. We will guide you through the visa process and explain how you pay the various required entities (college, testing service, home stay, etc.)

Our smaller class sizes provide a more intimate setting and a better student-teacher ratio which both serve to provide an excellent learning environment.
