My first official act as your 11th District Regent is to acknowledge the outstanding and hard work and to express my profound thanks on behalf of myself and all of our Fellows to our former Regent, Dr. William Fraser of Bozeman, Montana. His leadership has been indispensable to our district’s continued evolution which started several Regents ago (Don Compaan, Johnny Johnson, Jack Clinton, and Deck Barnes). Under Bill, we became a Model District Award winner this year; a very significant accomplishment for a district and their Regent. Also, Bill has been a champion for the 11th District and the ICD in general and has made great efforts to keep me in the loop and help me with my transition to Regent. If you see Bill out and about in Montana or elsewhere, be sure to thank him for all he has done for us. Next, I would like to introduce and welcome Dr. Tom Pollard of Portland, Oregon as our new Vice Regent. Tom will be an excellent Vice Regent. We have an excellent rapport and I will make a pledge to you all that I will try my best to keep him in the loop and, hopefully, help him make his transition to Regent. If you should have any questions or concerns about ICD and the 11th District, please contact me or Tom. As I am getting up to speed, our committee assignments have just been completed, and I have been appointed to the newly formed Advertising Committee. Additionally, I have also been assigned to the Membership Committee. If any of you have suggestions for these committees, or any other ideas, comments, questions, or concerns for the advancement of the ICD, please let me know and I will do my best to take them to the Board of Regents. Our first Board of Regents meeting was in May and at the top of the agenda was for us to explore and consider the benefits and ramifications of separating our convocation from the ADA annual session. We have looked at all of the information and discussed several points, including costs, accessibility, availability, interested cities, time of year, Fellows and candidates’ desires, and the importance or not of being combined with the ADA annual session, to name just some of the larger and more obvious factors. At this time, the decision was made not to change at this time, but if you should have any strong feelings one way or the other please get in touch with me and let me know your thoughts. We also discussed budget, advertising, projects, service opportunities, membership issues, as well as the convocation and processes related thereof. I am certainly looking forward to representing you all at the Board of Regents these next four years. Contact info: email – dehdds8@msn.com, phone – (360) 577-3625 (office) and (360) 431-3845 (cell). If you call my cell, please leave a message and I will call you back.
